stunned in her first act as acting mayor. what she said next was almost surreal. >> pam: the suspect is supervisor dan white. >> pam: moments later white surrendered peaceably. the former policeman and firefighter had resigned from his seat a few weeks earlier. >> pam: he said the job didn't pay enough to support his family. >> pam: then he asked for his job back. moscone told him no, he had already picked someone to replace him. on the morning of november 27th, dan white took his service revolver to city hall. >> pam: to avoid metal detectors he slipped in through a basement window. he killed george moscone in the mayor's suite, then walked down the hall and gunned down harvey milk, moscone's close political ally, >> pam: as the news spread, crowds gathered at city hall. flags were lowered to half=staff. >> pam: a single bouquet lay on the steps below the window to the mayor's office. dan white was charged with murder with special circumstances.
