top stories we are following on this friday december 13th. newly released video of the s-f-o crash of asiana flight 2-1-4. this time the pictures are from the perspective of the air traffic control tower. fan sauce a morning wreck in livermore yesterday is the result of a d-u-i. one person is dead and another behind bars. we'll have an update. and it may be friday the 13th. but many people are feeling lucky as they go get their mega millions tickets. and hope they are the this just in to kron 4. firefighters in oakland are battling a 2-alarm house fire on 90th avenue and a street. the call to oakland fire came in just after 2:30 this morning. kron 4's will tran is headed to the scene, and we will have a live report as soon as he is there.

the mega millions jackpot for tonight's drawing is an estimated $400 million. that's the second-largest mega millions jackpot ever, trailing only a $656 million jackpot won in march 2012, and the fifth largest in u.s. history. mega millions operators made changes in october after seeing how changes to powerball helped that lottery's jackpots balloon. among other changes, powerball doubled its ticket price in january 2012 from $1 to $2. the current jackpot has rolled over 20 times without a winner. mega millions drawing today. people out getting their tickets. bart management and its two largest unions will continue contract talks today. they started negotiations yesterday over one clause in the labor contract. that is causing a major snag. the unions have already voted to ratify the contract, but bart management says the paid family leave act was included in the contract by mistake. the talks yesterday were the first formal negotiations since october 21st. a federal mediator is participating.

new this morning out of the south bay. a high school marching band is robbed of thousands of dollars at a fundraiser. police say an armed man with a ski mask came into oak grove high school wednesday night. went to the cash handlers at a bingo fundraising event and demanded money. the man took roughly five thousand dollars. a security guard chased after the man, but a parent told the guard he was armed so the pursuit ended out of safety. the weekly bingo event funds 85 percent of the band's program. the suspect has not been caught. we have newly released video that shows the crash of asiana flight 2-14. the perspective from the control tower at s-f-o. you can see the plane coming in on approach. then, it hits the seawall and almost jumps onto the runway. the momentum of the crash sends the plane spinning in the air, before finally resting off the runway. the plane was found to be too low on approach. the pilot disconnected the autopilot, and set off the

chain reaction that ended up killing three people and injuring 180 more. the n-t-s-b has wrapped up its public hearing into the crash. and that hearing provided new and sobering details into what happened. here are some of those findings. investigators determined the flight came in too low and too slow investigators also revealed the pilots were deeply concerned before landing and relied too heavily on automated control systems. the pilot flying told investigators that he was uncomfortable landing visually without an instrument approach to guide him. and acknowledged he didn't completely understand the boeing 777's automated flight system. we also now know two rescue fire trucks ran over a 16- year old passenger. as she lay covered in foam. coming up on kron 4 morning news. a massive crackdown on unsafe bus companies could affect how you travel this holiday season. we'll have more on federal

snowy weather in west michigan leads to a chain- reaction crash involving about three-dozen vehicles.

some of the chaos was captured on dash-cam video. the crash happened on the highway. a state police vehicle was stopped on the side of the road, when a trailer truck came in fast. that driver made it through, but caused traffic to slow even more. moments later, another truck comes from behind and smash. two officers were hit during the series of crashes.

this is video of when the football players were in court. the rape happened in august of last year. two boys were convicted and sentenced to juvenile prison. today's hearing will determine whether the school workers lied and tampered with evidence stemming from the rape case. among those charged is stuebenville superintendent mike mc-vey. the case has long been marked by allegations that more football players should have been charged and that police and prosecutors tried to cover up aspects of the case early on. fordham university says about 25-hundred applicants erroneously received a financial aid email implying they had been

admitted, even though they hadn't. the school sent a follow-up email explaining the mistake a few hours after the initial missive went out to early admission applicants wednesday. the university says 500 of the applicants were rejected and the remaining 2,000 were deferred, meaning they must wait until april 1 for a decision. school officials say the email was mistakenly sent out by a third-party contractor and apologizing for the mistake. an ohio man who fatally shot his sick wife in her hospital bed will be sentenced today. a prosecutor recommended a six-year prison term instead of a possible life

sentence. the attorney for 68-year- old john wise has said they'll ask the governor for clemency after he is sentenced. wise says he shot his debilitated wife out of love in august 2012 after she suffered an aneurysm and appeared to be in pain. wise was convicted on charges including aggravated murder with a firearm specification, which could carry a life sentence. the search has been called off for a san jose tech executive and four others whose plane went missing in idaho's backcountry earlier this month. the single engine beechcraft disappeared near yellow pine, about 150 miles north of boise. on board was the pilot, dale smith, his son and daughter in law. his daughter and her fiance. search crews reluctantly halted operations yesterday. citing worsening conditions and safety concerns. this morning we're learning just how a family of six including four young children managed to survive being stranded for two brutal nights in the nevada wilderness.

the aunt of the woman named christina mc-intee, who was in the crash, says the family survived temperatures as low as 20- below zero on crackers chips and cookies. they also burned sage brush. heated rocks and burned a spare tire to keep warm. she says they never lost hope but they were growing desperate and were about to begin walking toward help.when they were found tuesday. christina along with one of the children, are back at home while her boyfriend james glanton remains in the hospital with the three other children. changes are coming to the cast of saturday night live. the longtime n-b-c show plans to add one, possibly two black female performers to its cast as soon as next year. s-n-l has been responding to complaints about its lack of diversity. criticism was sparked by two of the shows black male cast members, jay pharoah and kenan thompson. thompson even refused to perform as a black female in sketches. saturday night live has seen two dozen candidates in recent weeks in l-a, chicago and new york. developing news this

here stanley roberts who found some people behaving badly. of the 71 tickets issued to 14 were written here at the intersection of par and san antonio. at this crosswalk. according to alameda police, it was so bad they had to stop writing tickets because the violators just kept coming

and oakland. kron4's will tran is on the scene with the latest. >>: the fire is out and fortunately no one inside this home was hurt. if a family of three was sleeping and-you concede the home is almost completely gutted. the family and was awakened in the middle of the night by smoke. the spread to surrounding homes. fortunately, those homes were unoccupied at the time. investigators are not entering the situation to make sure they aren't any clear ups. they don't know the cause yet but they don't believe it's a space heater.

now on to weather where erica is keeping track of our forecast this morning. >>erica: happy friday. we are waking up to temperatures warmer than what we've seen for the past week or so. this is the first freeze warning we haven't seen since last friday when it actually rain. it's the first morning or temperatures are actually above freezing for most of us. as for temperatures heading out the door, you will notice we are in the upper 20s for santa rosa and vallejo. upper 30's along

bolts almost derailed the grand opening of the new span over the labor day weekend. crews are working right now to make the final repairs billion dollar project. kron 4's justine waldman takes us under the bay bridge to see how the work is coming along. it was one month ago today that demolition began on the old bay bridge. and already crews are making noticeable progress. from the vantage point along the news span you can see the upper deck of the 77 y/o bridge to disappearing.crews have have almost completed deconstructing fourteen- hundred feet of the upper deck between the two towers. i spoke with a bay bridge spokesperson earlier today who told me that he expects crews to wrap-up deconstructing the upper deck some time this weekend. if all goes according to plan, next week crews will begin removing concrete and asphalt from the lower deck. now, interestingly, as that asphalt is removed from the lower deck. it will be replaced with a wood. essentially creating a platform that is lighter-

weight, but able to support more of heavy construction equipment. demolition of the more than 58,000 tons of steal won't start until next year. and it'll be even longer before crews can remove the underwater structures, such as the pillions and foundations, which stretch deep underwater to the bay floor. of course, this is very still early the deconstruction process, which is estimated to take at least 5 years. the price tag for all of this demolition: 92.4 million dollars. please break down philippes pkg a three- alarm fire at a santa rosa compound. heavily damages at least three structures, and one tree on the property.

new this morning, police in seattle are looking into a possible connection between a large scale wind up theft earlier this month and a similar heists in san francisco. -wind. so far, two suspects have been taken into custody in seattle. -- wine thefts. the accused of taking up to $650,000 worth of wine at a store last month. the pair allegedly cut gas lines at the store to try and start a fire after taking the wine. now, investigators want to know if this is connected to a theft affine--at fine wines international in san francisco back in march. in

a vigil for several young men who have gone missing without any explanation in the last few years. dozens attended the vital-judge a vigil at the steps of city hall to remember the six young men who disappeared within the last two years. all of them are men in their 20s and all of them vanished without contacting their families or friends. and october of 2013, paulo netto went missing calling 9113 in november of 2013, derrick chow went missing on his way to city college. they are all in the same age group. parents of these young command are desperate for answers.

we are back. of 511 is the time. in south africa today, tens of thousands of mourners are waiting in line to view the body of nelson mandela which is lying in state for the third and final day. government officials say 50,000 people have gathered in pretoria to pay their respects to the former south african president. the line at to see mandela is several miles long. mandela died december 5th at the age of 95. his body will be flown to his rule home town of--rural home town of qunu for a state funeral service and burial on sunday. >>darya: an apology today from government officials in south africa about the sign language interpreter who didn't make any sense during nelson mandela's memorial on tuesday. the country's arts
