three incidents reported in west palm beach just last week, with attacks on the rise nationwide. c-n-n's rene marsh has more. >> in the latest incident, the pilot of a jetblue airliner says he had to shield his eyes in order to land his plane monday at a florida airport, all because of another case involving laser lights. it's become such a problem that doctors are concerned. >> "it bothers me from a safety standpoint because it's a pilot and the potential for all those people on the plane. but it bothers me from a personal level because i know the guy." >> marc brockman is the pilot's doctor. >> "i can tell you the pilot wants to know exactly who did this. there will be some investigating." >> it happened as flight 521 from new york was landing at west palm beach airport. the

pilot said someone on the ground tracked the aircraft with a laser for about 20 to 30 seconds. this faa video shows what a laser looks like from an airplane's cockpit. the fda says a laser's beam - especially from a strong laser - can injure "instantly" >> "the laser is not going to physically hurt the airplane but the laser can blind the pilot at least can temporarily blind the pilot and also just the effect of this startling burst of light into the airplane cockpit." >> and nationwide, airplane laser incidents are becoming increasingly common. the faa reported just 350 in 2006 but 3,400 in 2012. and at palm beach alone, there have been 32 laser attacks so far this year. a 2012 law makes it a federal offense to aim a laser at a plane. >> "the word needs to get out that this isn't funny, that this is something that's

potentially serious and it is a felony." >> two workers were hurt today in an explosion at a chemical plant in the chicago area. it happened at the blue island plant in the town of alsip. neighbors say the blast rattled homes and sounded like an earthquake, but no evacuations were ordered. the company that owns the plant says the explosion happened after a storm triggered a power outage. >> two people were killed when boulders came crashing down on a home in rockville, utah. officials believe thawing ice caused boulders weighing several hundred tons to come tumbling down a hill last night, flattening a home. people living in the neighborhood have been asked to evacuate amid concerns about a second slide. machines are being brought in to break up the massive boulders that hit the house, so the debris can be moved. >> it was sunny and mild it will stay warmer. by 8:00
