(male announcer): this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now. >> pam: a 13-year-old girl who went into oakland's children's hosptial to get her tonsils out, is now on life support. kron4's maureen kelly spoke to the girl's family - still grappling with how a routine surgery could take such a terrible turn. >>i love my daughter she does not deserve this she came here happy, smiling. (crying) >> reporter:jahi mcmath's mother choked back tears as she described what happened

to her daughter. you can see the 13 year old in this picture in her hospital gown monday before she underwent a routine surgery to remove her tonsils and adenoids in order to treat her slept apnea. her family says after the operation jahi seemed fine.asking for a popsicle. but later.when her mom went to see her in i-c-u. she saw something was wrong. >>13:46 she was spitting up lots of blood and i was asking them is this normal after a tonsil and adenoid removal. at first they said yes but the blood was so much to where it it started coming out of her nose coming out of her mouth and it was clots and it was all over her clothes and it was all over her face >> reporter:jahi's grandmother who is surgical nurse at kaiser in oakland came in to help. she says the blood kept coming.and then about 2 and a half hours later.the unthinkable.the teenager went into cardic arrest. >> i see them giving her chest compressions , i was like now way, now way this can't be happening andhtye are giving chest
