legal battle to keep her daughter on life support after tonsillectomy left her brain dead. and an around-the-clock finish, we're standing by from a store open for 100 straight hours. good morning, thanks a lot for joining us, i'm marty gonzalez. let's get things started by checking in with our meteorologist. >> this is the view from our roof camera. we have another round of sunshine. for temperatures, this is what they look like. in san francisco, 47 degrees here, 41 in oakland, upper 30s in san jose, 37 in livermore and 34 degrees in santa rosa. we are expecting plenty of sunshine and warmer temperatures compared to yesterday. we'll break those afternoon highs in just a little bit. >> another hearing will be held tomorrow to find out if a doctor has been chosen to examine a

13-year-old girl currently on life support. the family of the little girl and the oakland children's hospital need to agree on the doctor. the mother has written a letter about her legal battle. she knows her daughter is alive. doctors declared her brain dead after complications during a routine surgery to remove tonsils. friday, a judge ruled in favor saying she cannot be removed from life support until someone can examine her. >> we have the deepest i should who wishes her daughter is alive, but the only thing maintaining this child is a ventilator. it would be unfair to give false hope of her to come back alive.

the uncle says they'll beholding a march in front of children's hospital oakland for that 10 a.m. march. >> and we have are coverage of the family to keep up-to-date at kron 4.com. it is crunch time for last minute holiday shoppers and many stores making it easier to shop around-the-clock. mike is joining us live from macy's in san francisco. i understand the store is open nonstop until christmas? >> if you wake up at 3 in the morning and forgot a sweater for uncle fred, a number of stores are doing marathon sessions, staying open through the night of christmas. earlier this morning a found a few people shopping here at macy's of the a lot of people were tourists who couldn't sleep. stores are doing whatever they can to get you to spend for

christmas. six fewer shopping days between thanksgiving and christmas. that's why a lot of stores were on thfk day and now this marathon shopping session. macy's -- thanksgiving day, and may y macy's are us, jcpenny and toys are us. storing are working in bringing in shoppers, with the overnight hours. i found a few sopors hitting the store -- shoppers hitting the stores at 5:00 this morning. >> we had dinner with family and afterwards, let's just go. it's nice because this is the only place that's done and you can get your shopping done. >> you said you did not have time this holiday season. >> no time at all. it's almost christmas and i'm just finishing up my list.

buckingham court. he was elderly and taking a walk and may have been disoriented. he was last seen wearing dark colored jacket and pants. you're asked to call the balnut cream police department. -- walnut police department. jp morgan chase is limiting people's debit card accounts and atm withdraws. they are temporarily limited to $100 a day, and the bank is limiting purchases to $300 a day. jp morgan says it is reissuing all debit cards effected by the breach. hackers my have compromised the debit and credit cards of 40 million customers between november 27th and december 15th. and the new york times

reporting the stolen information is already popping up on the black market. a fraud tracking companies it's seen an increase of 10 to 20 times the number of high value stolen credit cards on web sites. and san francisco police are celebrating the anniversary of the shooting of an officer. he tried to detain a prisoner from back in 2007. he was shot and killed. the escapee was shot and killed by an officer. they can visit the community room until 10:00 in the evening. pg&e is working this morning to repair a power outage that effected customers in pleasanton

this morning. it was reported near amador valley high school. it took about three hours to get power back to all the original 3,000 customers. it doesn't know just yet when the power will be fully restored. two women are in custody in connection with home burglaries in sonoma county. it started around november 13th. the thieves took tvs, furniture, dishes and bedding. the two suspects had outstanding warrants of the a 3rd woman is under investigation for involvement with the crimes after police found a van at her home containing some of the stolen property. a former massage therapist has been arrested for alleged sexual assault on multiple victims. 35-year-old rasheet was arrested on sexual battery. the arrest came about a year

after a woman in her late teens reported that he sexual assaulted her at the day spa in pal low at o -- palo alto on. the suspect surrendered wednesday. he was booked for misdemeanor sexual battery and is out on bail. a colorado community is in mourning after a teenager dies following a school shooting. we'll show you how the high school senior is being remembered.

high school has become a memorial. many stopping by with flowers and candles. tiffany struggled to explain it to her little ones. >> it's unexplainable. i -- i don't know really what to tell them. >> investigators say davis was randomly shot point-blank in the head by her fellow classmate, carl pearson on december 13th. the two did not each other and pearson was targeting the arapahoe librarian. moments after shooting claire, he shot himself. and it's only the second day of winter but frost, snow and ice blanketing some parts of the country. we'll explain when we come back what's causing the extreme weather.

talking a little weather this morning. in some states, they're incased in ice, and other places, there were two tornados. we'll have what causes all of this extreme weather. >> there's no doubt about it, wenter is not only officially -- winter is not only officially here, it's been here for weeks. >> you have to drive maybe ten miles an hour at the most. >> plenty of salt. the back roads are starting to stick a little bit. it looks like it's coming down pretty good. >> i'm going to stay in for this. at least six winter storms hit the u.s. coast-to-coast impacting tens of millions of people. what's the science behind all of this extreme weather? >> in terms of the storms that we've seen in october, november, and december, as i often people, the atmosphere doesn't have an on and off switch.

the president of the made logical city -- made logical -- me te'o rological society. >> we get these strong dips in these patterns. we're going to have warm air, and so generally, the jet stream pattern is the governing forcing function of our weather in the wintertime. >> case and point? denver, colorado. the mile high city went from negative to 70 degrees. a time of year when it should be hovering around 40. we're talking about 30 degrees above normal. and in the big d, an ice storm earlier this month took dallas from a high of 79 degrees to freezing in three days and dm eight december 8th, more snow was dropped than last year.

want to get you caught up on the weather forecast. another beautiful day in the bay area, and here is janu. >> certainly been a beautiful start to the day. plenty of sunshine out there. some patchy fog, but as for temperatures, it is a little bit chillier compared to about 24 hours ago. pulls up those current temperatures, about 35 degrees currently in santa rosa, about 44 degrees in richmond. low 40s along the east bay shores. upper 30s in san mateo. about 65 degrees for oakland, 60 for san mateo, and 62 for san francisco, mid-60s for santa

the father of a man killed by officers in a high speed

chase, is suing police. brian beard was shot after an hour long pursuit in downtown los angeles. his father says he did nothing wrong. beard got out of his car, walked behind it and then with his back to the officers, briefly raised his hands. he was then shot and fell to the ground after one or more officers shot him. preliminary reports show officers fired more than 20 shots at the unarmed man. >> president obama says insurance sign ups are surging now that government's web site is working better for consumers but it's still too soon to say the roll out turned the corner. more than 1 million people enrolled since act first. in late number, only 365,000 people signed up. and even so, things still aren't exactly humming along. healthcare.gov was down as continues to sendted to fix an

can't sleep, why not go shopping? you at least have that option over the next several days as a number of stores are doing this marathon shopping session keeping their doors open through christmas eve doing anything they can to spend money for christmas. this is a much shorter shopping season. six fewer shopping days between thanksgiving and christmas. that's why you you saw a lot of stores open up on thanksgiving day and now this marathon shopping session ahead of christmas ear. macy's, kmart, and into christmas eve, some have called this a disappointing shopping season. discounts are really working hard to bring in shoppers in addition to using overnight hours. i did find a little shoppers running on no sleep. >> we thought there would be no

one of the busiest areas in the bay area is offering free public wifi along market street. the coverage stretches 3.1 miles from castro street down to the embarcardero. the mayor lee is hoping this will spur economic growth in the city. this is definitely one of those perks of living near silicon valley. a lot of the outdoor areas are getting covered in free wifi and market street is a great area for this because 250,000 people a day walk down market street. so, here's how this new free wifi will work. when you're on market street,
