is where you will find some the coldest readings. santa rosa is at 34 degrees. milder weather in san francisco. as we head into the afternoon it you will see upper 60s to rob the bay area. the temperatures will be warmer than what they should be. yesterday, san jose and mountain view had a record high. we will continue with this pattern towards christmas day. >> pleasanton will be topping out at 63 degrees. we will continue with mostly clear conditions. we may see upper 60s pretty close to 70 heading into christmas day. >> here is a look at your 7 day around the bay. warmer weather will continue past christmas. a 10% chance of showers for the weekend. i will have more details coming up. in the meantime,

i want to talk about traffic. we're not looking at any hot spots. we were following an injury accident on northbound 1 on one. it was a balding injured. as a right now, just one lane is blocks. >> the bridges are all doing okay. san mateo bridge--the traffic is moving well. >> supporters of jahi mcmath. the teen declared brain dead after having her tonsils removed. rallied at children's hospital oakland this weekend. the family is fighting to keep the 13-year-old on life support. a judge ruled friday that jahi could not be taken off life support until an independent neurologist examined her. oakland children's hospital

says the teen has been brain dead for eleven days after suffering complications during routine surgery to remove her tonsils. family members have asked for a second opinion, and accused the hospital of being callous. an independent medical expert could examine jahi as soon as today. jahi's uncle says they will be holding a march for her this morning at 10 am, meeting in front of oakland children's hospital. we have continuing coverage of the mcmath family's battle to keep jahi on life support. for updates anytime just log onto our website kron 4 dot-com. r >> a 10 week old puppy was found in the recology dump friday. "gem" was found on a conveyor belt full of discarded refuse. she was quickly placed in the care of a veterinarian. her injuries include bite marks around her head, neck, and ears. fluid was coming from her eyes and ears.

"gem" is also lame in her hind legs. veterinarians say most of her injuries happened before she was thrown away. animal care officers are asking anyone who knows "gem's" owner to contact them immediately. >> a man in petaluma -- is beaten with a pipe while crossing a street by the same driver who almost ran him down. as kron four's philippe djegal reports. the victim is in critical condition. >> down on the ground. dazed and bloodied. petaluma police arriving at the area of park lane and mcgregor avenue just minutes after this man was nearly hit by a car, then allegedly beaten by the driver. but they didn't get there fast enough to head off the driver before he sped off. the driver -- now a suspect in this assault with a deadly weapon. police say when the victim -- a 47-year-old man -- was crossing the street just after seven o'clock saturday night. the suspect -- driving in a dark-colored late 80s or early 90s four door sedan, similar to a buick.

almost ran into the victim. that's when investigators say the two men exchanged words. the verbal altercation turned physical when police say the suspect -- described as a caucasian man in his 20s with a thin build and short hair. got out of his car, and hit the victim in the head with a pipe. the suspect drove off -- last seen heading north on park lane. the victim was taken to a hospital, admitted to the intensive care unit, where he is in critical condition. possibly suffering from a skull fracture and other facial injuries. investigators are talking to witnesses. but if you have information that could to lead to an arrest. call police. >> philippe djegal, kron four news. >> one person was hospitalized after a shooting on highway 5-80 in oakland. it happened near macarthur boulevard sunday morning just before three a-m. authorities say the victim was wounded by shattered glass. additional details have not

been disclosed. the extent of the person's injuries are unknown at this >> there was a freak accident on northbound 101 in redwood city. a spare tire was ejected into the front seats of a minivan. it happened around one p-m yesterday. this was the end result. >> a terrifying sight for the people inside the van. thankfully authorities say those injured in the accident were not seriously hurt. >> a two alarm garage fire san mateo county on sunday. fire crews were called to the 19-hundred block of parkside drive in hillsborough. the crews found heavy fire coming out of the garage when they arrived. the fire is currently under >> coming up on the kron 4 morning news. target is reeling after hundred of thousands of customers may have had their credit information stolen. we'll look at what the thieves could do with that stolen data. >> and the main rush may

>> welcome back. the major hack of discount retailer target in recent weeks has highlighted the threat of credit and debit card fraud. but how do hackers actually make use of the data they steal? laurie segall explains. >> if you've done some holiday shopping at target. you might be wondering what a hacker could learn about you from your credit card. when you swipe here's what a hacker could learn from the data in that magnetic strip: your name your credit card number the card's expiration date and the c-v-v code on the back. no line >> "all of this key data that can be used to falsify that card and go ahead and

fraudulently use online, they can access that just by taking what's on the strip." >> in the case of the target hack, that data may have been enough for hackers to make a counterfeit card. one security researcher, who showed us a different credit card hack, explains: to the employee, everything looks normal: >> "i just have to log in, i can make a selection here, and then i can do a credit card swipe." "it'll ask me for the cvv, i can put in a cvv, whatever numbers i want. and then i click pay, nothing seems untoward." >> for the customer, pretty standard: >> "you're paid, you get your receipt, you move on." >> but for the hacker >> "i have access to the entire mag stripe data that's on this device. and i can get all of this and enough information to actually create a whole different card." >> the target hack has some saying that the u-s is a little behind-the-times in terms of secure payments. >> "what one secure solution, more secure solution that they have in

europe right now is this chip and pin system, in which the card doesn't actually have a strip, it has a chip within it every time you use it you also have to enter a pin." >> according to the federal reserve, credit card fraud in england plummeted 34 percent in the six years after banks and merchants implemented chip-and-pin cards. during a similar period in france, fraud from in-person card fell 35 percent. but this holiday season, millions of american shoppers might have been the target. >> the deadly storms and bring floods. i will give you a round of the weather coming up.

christmas for those travelers still trying to make their way home. san francisco's international airport seems relatively calm as the peak christmas travel season already passed. we caught up with some fliers and asked how smooth this weekend. >> surprisingly it has been very good. we were just trying to get our beds. >> it would not be as busy as it was yesterday. >> this is my first time find in the morning. i usually come in the afternoon. maybe inside will be better. it looks like it is getting busier. >> those flying out of oakland and san jose can also breath a sigh of relief no delays. >> those holiday travelers deciding to hit the road will get a bit of a break when filling up their gas tanks.

the national average of three dollars and twenty-six cents per gallon dipped two cents a gallon over the last two weeks. currently the average gas price for a gallon of gas in san francisco is a little above with three dollars and sixty-five cents. in oakland the average is three dollars and fifty seven cents per gallon while in san jose the average price of gas per gallon is three dollars and fifty-six cents per gallon. >> a wildfire that destroyed dozens of homes in big sur is fully contained. the big sur fire started last week and burned through more than nine- hundred acres. 34 homes were destroyed by the blaze. >> there was just a enormous wall of flame and actually the smoke becomes illuminated at night it looks sort of glowing and pink and i thought 'oh my god this is really close.'" >> "it wasn't flames flickering, it was balls of fire, hot fast, just
