so-called "knockout game." it involves people going up to strangers, punching them and running off. you can seen examples of those attacks happening all around the nation on your screen. police say, in this case, the suspect targeted a 79- year-old african-american man.who was left hospitalized for days.. ryan korsgard reports. >> this is the 79-year-old man federal prosecutors say was hit so hard that he had surgery to insert two metal plates into his fractured jaw and to remove three teeth. he now fears for his safety. for that reason, his attorney is not releasing his name. prosecutors say 27-year-old conrad barrett brutally attacked the man late last month in this neighborhood near katy mills mall. federal court documents say barrett targeted the man because he is black. the u-s attorney's office says the attack was racially motivated and is a hate crime. >> "i think it sends the message that they're taking this very, very seriously. that this sort of thing shouldn't be tolerated and that they're going to investigate it thoroughly, and they're going to prosecute it to the fullest >> prosecutors say barrett

>> thieves backed a van through a glass wall -- and into a d-m-v in the atlanta area early thursday. they grabbed two a-t-ms that weren't bolted to the floor. the van narrowly missed an armed security guard inside the lobby.
