>> new at five.. the family of a navy veteran is expressing gratitude. now that he's been found safe. the search for derek sell ended just a couple hours ago. we first told you about his story early this week. the 30-year-old was last seen december 17-th at san francisco general hospital. kron-4 was there when the man's father broke the news - that his son is ok. >> from the san francisco police department the detective notified may that they had seen the broadcast he was a move to-that she was reported to be okay. my heart is best-i am grateful to everyone for making this happen. maligned >> earlier this morning. teams of volunteers. from the bay area and out of town. fanned out across san francisco to look

for sell. they say they're relieved that he's been found - and are asking for privacy for his family. >> a man from the bay area has been killed in an avalanche in wyoming. it happened yesterday near a resort in jackson hole. the man - michael kazanjy -- was sking down the 'back country' with some friends. that's when they apparently triggered the falling snow. rescuers found the 29-year- old about a half hour later, but it was too late. according to his facebook page, he attended u-c berkeley. >> construction crews in daly city got a chilling surprise this morning.they found a body inside a store that's being remodelled. this is video from the scene today. the store is a sports authority - and it's near the seramonte mall. police say the body of a man was found around 7-am. no other details are being released yet. >> a-c transit bus drivers and mechanics are voting on a proposed labor contract.

>> not really, ac transit is better. >> i had a chance to talk to men and bus riders, most of them stated that they do not like the tendency is deal because it is too similar to the previous two bills that they rejected. >> will tran, kron 4 news. >> el cerrito police say they've arrested a man behind a violent purse snatching. the robbery happened a week ago on kearney street. surveillance cameras took these pictures of a suspect. police say the man grabbed a woman's purse from her shoulder - then tried to run off. but. the woman pulled out a pot from another bag. and started beating him with it.trying to get him to let go of her purse. it didn't work. >> oakland police are searching for two cell phone thieves. they say one of the armed robbers took this photo of himself -- with the stolen phone. the crime happened back in august.

their students and how the school janitor confronted the shooter. to see the full report -- we've posted it at kron-4 dot com. >> target has confirmed today that debit card pin data was stolen when the retailer was hacked. but the company says it believes the pins are "safe and secure." a spokeswoman says the pin numbers are "strongly encrypted" and can only be decrypted with a key held by an independent payment processor. target says the key was not stolen in the breach. the news comes just one day after target said that pin numbers were not compromised. it's the latest update following affecting information belonging to 40 million customers. >> a-and-e network has reportedly reversed its decision. to remove duck dynasty star phil robertson from future episodes. the suspension originally came after robertson - the patriarch on the series -- made angry

>> bay area air quality officials have extended their spare=the=air alert through saturday. that means no fires, indoors or outdoors, with wood, charcoal or any other solid it's the sixth spare the air day in a row, the 21st since november first. >> a new study by m=i=t says the unhealthiest air can be found in one of san francisco's liveliest neighborhoods. the inner mission has one of the city's highest rates of pulmonary disease. the researchers say they think they know why. >> the study compares the mission district with the outer mission district. both neighborhoods are bordered by freeways, a known health risk. and the outer mission actually has more families living close to sources of industrial pollution.

but people living in the inner mission are six times more likely to suffer from pulmonary disease. to underdstand the mystery, the researchers studied aerial photos. the secret turned out to be righ neighborhoods' back yards. in the outer mission, they are bigger, and more likely to have trees. this is their drawing of a typican mission district block: lots of pavement, very little greenery. then look at the typical outer mission block: just about every house has a back yard. there are more than three times as many trees and ten times as much greenery. the study recommends planting more trees to combat freeway pollution. and even encouraging homeowners to install "green roofs." >> it's one thing to have unhealthy air outside. but inside your home too? a new study by the lawrence livermore lab says homes with gas stoves exceed air quality standards. if stoves are not properly

it comes after the region got pounded with winter weather. as, as chad myers tells us, people there could soon be dealing with even more messy weather. >> talk about a another blow. hundreds of residents are still waking up with no power. a another blast of arctic air is on the way. >> the fire is the only way we can keep going. >> people in pennsylvania are recovering from pilots. as for the dramatic scene, first responders rescued more than 40 people and transported to hospitals. more snow is expected for michigan to maine. this comes as a blow because they have been working with below freezing temperatures to try to restore power. >> crews have finally been able to fire up their e electrical grids but are

being grabbed up - for as low as $25. >> this glitch reportedly appeared on delta's website around 10-am thursday morning. and customers didn't waste any time taking advantage of the rock-bottom prices. some of the deals: a boston to honolulu route for $68. flights from new york to seattle and los angeles for between $25 and $40. and an oklahoma to st. louis trip for just under $13! a delta spokesman wouldn't say how many tickets were sold at incorrect prices. but these glitches are now common enough, that some savvy fliers actually search for them. earlier this year, united- continental expierenced a similar problem. giving out totally free fares. which it did go on to honor. delta too says it too will honor the cheap tickets. for travelers who want to get in on the discounts next time around. there are several websites - including fare-compare and orbitz - that provide a list of low fares, plus alerts that go straight to your e-mail >> i'm zain asher in new york. >>

>> unemployment benefits for one-point-three million americans are set to expire saturday. that's because congress did not include funding for them in the new budget deal. at this point, analysts don't expect the money to be restored. erin mcpike reports from washington. >> by most measures -- the economy is stronger than it's been in a very long time. >> but there is a glaring soft spot: long-term unemployment. almost eleven million americans cash unemployment checks, but the money is about to run out for 1.3 million on saturday. and one study says another one-point-nine million americans will lose their benefits by mid-2014. president george w. bush started the federal unemployment program in 2008 to help ease the pain during the height of the recession. when states stopped providing assistance to the
