life support until january 7, and now, the family is working with their attorney to relocate jahi to a facility that would accept her in her current condition. but in order to remove her, two tubes must be surgically implanted, a breathing tube and a feeding tube. but the hospital refuses to do so. i asked the family attorney if he had a doctor willing to come in and do the necessary surgery. >> there is no doctor who has stated they are willing to bust through the doors. we have not been able to get a commitment from the doctor because they asked what are the conditions? and people don't know this, but hospitals are like fortresses. unless you have privileges as a doctor, you can't do anything. through the not us. that's the rule, and that's why i wrote the letter. please tell me the conditions under which we can bring a physician in. that's what the physicians are asking me for. >> i don't think he is being

night mopping up hot spots and guarding against a possible flare up. kron 4 news. the weather is very dry lately, and i'm here in the kron 4 weather center, and we are talking tinder dry? >> that's right. the national weather service considered issuing a red flag warning. they haven't, but it's very, very dry and has been dry this entire year. we are looking at graphic. on the last hand side is the average amount of rainfall we're used to seeing, and on the right-hand side, the number, that's the actual amount of rainfall we've received. right now in santa rosa, we have received 8.5" and we are used to seeing 34". concord, 15", and this year, not even 5".

livermore, 15" is what we are used to getting, and 4.5". oakland, almost 20" is what we're used to seeing. this year, not even 5". so a very dry 2013 and hopefully, 2014 will bear more rain. high tides caution problems near mill valley. the shoreline highway exit of highway 101 was closed down earlier because of flooding. businesses near the off-ramp have put down sandbags. the unusually high tides are called king tides and are caused by the alignment of the earth. the king tides are expected until friday. dozens are people stranded

off a ship off antartica are celebrating new year's eve. 74 people are on board the research ship stuck in the ice. the people on the ship are waiting for the weather to improve so a helicopter rescue can take place. it can pick up 12 passengers at a time. the ship has been stationary since christmas when the especially thick ice would not allow it to move any further, and threey separate ships have tried and failed to get close enough for a rescue. a chinese ship got closer but was still six nautical miles away. the crew has about nine days of fresh food left and weeks of dehydrated food. the people on board are skilled and upbeat despite the circumstances. oakland police say they will be out patrolling the streets in anticipation of a

the rooftop, and the fireworks will be launched from a barge out on the bay, and then we have the clock tower counting down until midnight, and with the large crowds expected down here, the san francisco police department will be here to keep an eye on things, and they have put out the barriers that they will start spreading along the embarcadero. they like to keep a few lanes open for emergency traffic and to keep people on the sidewalk to watch safely. otherwise, it's a beautiful night along the embarcadero. they have ice skating going on over there and it's just a beautiful night for new year's eve. we will be here throughout the evening with updates throughout the newscast, and we'll be here live at 11:30 for the new year's eve live show and live

mysterious giant crop circles have appeared on a farm near salinas, and as felix cortez reports, they're sparking wild conspiracy theories. >> reporter: this is what was discovered monday morning a field, a huge crop circle in the middle of a grass hill. by early afternoon, the pictures and story had gone viral, and looky loos started showing up in droves hoping to get a glimpse. >> i'm a skeptic, but i don't know. i am always willing to believe something. so--i mean, proof. you can't deny proof. so right now, it looks like aliens to me. >> reporter: something happened in the field overnight. the youtube video shows strange bursts of light near a crop

weekend. a dispute between starbucks and a small missouri brewery. the brewer makes beer with a name similar to the popular starbucks drink, expntdz coffee giant sent the business a cease and desist letter but the owner decided to give back with a note. >> a little tiny business from a little tiny town making little batches of beer. >> reporter: that's why jack briton cannot believe when he received this from starbucks about a beer called frappuccino. the letter said "as you probably know, starbucks coffee is the owner of a number of trademarks including the well- known frappuccino trademark." and it asked him to stop using any labels. it doesn't even serve a beer called the frap . soy he wrote

starbucks back and said he would change his beer to the f word. and its "we never thought our beer-drinking customers would have thought that the alcoholic beverage coming out of the tap would have been coffee from one of the many, many, many stores located a few blocks away." and then he included a check for $6, how much he said he would have made from the three people who say they drank frappuccino beer, and "we just want to help a business like starbucks. us small business owners need to stick together." the note is quite sarcastic, but jeff said it was a joke. >> i am not going to fight them. i don't have the money or resources to fight them much less the desire. i understand completely where they're coming from. >> reporter: but still, he said he probably won't be buying starbucks coffee any time soon.

when you see a homeless person on the side of the road and you roll down your window to help, a lot don't, but a handsful of central i want who is did help out over the christmas holiday got an unbelievable surprise. a des moines businessman decided to pose as a homeless man and give back to people who were willing to help him. someone handed him cash, and he handed them back an envelope. and inside a note thanking them for their generosity and up to $100 in cash is. the man said it was something he wanted to do for a while. >> a bucket list thing for me
