as livermore. we're going to look at how the day is going to shape up and rain in the forecast in just a bit. thank you. only to -- on to the news. a 7-year-old is safe with her family after being kidnapped friday night. police arrested david douglas in connection with with that kidnapping. he took natalie calvo from her home. police found douglas' car in the parking lot of the antioch marina. natalie was in the car at the time but was unharmed when police found her. new this morning, the 49ers are in frigid green bay getting used to the sub 0 temperatures. mike felton is in green bay where he found the faithful. >> reporter: good morning from

appleton wisconsin, i'm at the 49ers team hotel. they're staying in appleton, which is 30 miles southwest of green bay. they arrived late last night. you can them arriving at the hotel and they will not have a long time to get acclimated to the weather before the kick off a. we know temperatures are expected to be around 0 degrees with a nasty windchill. and here are the faithful here to route on the team. i found one fan who drove here from reno. >> 2000 miles to get here. it took us 2 1/2 days and we drove to bring our baby to see his team get beat by my team, the 49ers. the packers will lose today. >> and of course she's talking about sunday's game there. now, the packers did sell out the remaining tickets for sunday's match up making this a sell out at lambeau field and trying to help the fans stay warm, they are allowing the fans to get free hot chocolate

or coffee, each fan can get two. and on to the news, one of b.a.r.t.'s largest unions approves a 4 year labor deal. it leaves out the disputed family medical leave, but they will get bereavement leave and potential bonuses. they will be voting on this contract deal on january 13th. an sieu negotiator says he's hopeful that will end the strike. the fbi says it will have an announcement on the investigation on the attack on the chinese consulate. you can see a person around the entrance wednesday night and a few moments later, you see the explosion. someone threw two buckets of gasoline at the front doors on gyri and laguna streets in san francisco. the family of jahi mcmath

and lawyers for children's hospital oakland are working toward a moving jahi to another facility. they met at a settlement conference last night after a day of court hearings. the family attorney originally asked the alameda county court judge to insert a tracheotomy and feeding tube in hopes of transferring jahi. >> her chance of her body surviving or continuing to be able to exist are dwindling daily without nutrition. it is medically unwarranted, legally unprecedented and frankly unfathomable to the hospital that a court would con temperature ordering surgery be performed opt dead body. >> the judge refused to force the hospital to perform the surgeries. that was just one of two omittings in federal court yesterday -- meetings in federal court yesterday.

. that winter storm that blanketed the eastern u.s. with snow and bone chilling temperatures being blamed for at least 16 deaths. about 1/3 of the country is feeling the effects of the big storm dumping lots of snow and causing major problems. even when the snow moves out, the cold's expected to stick around and temperatures will drop lower next week according to forecasters. part of massachusetts got 2 feet of snow. people on long island new york felt windchills as low as 10 o degrees below 0 and there was flooding in sea bright new jersey. new york city's mayor did shoveling and said sanitation crews were working 12 hour shifts to try to clear the 62 miles of road and the heavy snow is only part of the problem. >> i don't want anybody to underestimate how bitterly cold it is. >> and flying to green bay wisconsin and other places may take a lot of patience. on friday, more than 2200

flights were canceled across the country with another storm forming to bring blizzard conditions to the northern planes today. the storm forced dozens of canceled or delayed flights at sfo. some travelers had to wait hours for the next available flight. one marine traveling to a base had had to deal with multiple delays. >> i went to cleveland where i was flying out at and i kept getting delayed and my flight was supposed to be at 7. we had a mini blizzard. cleveland got 9 inches and another storm that night and they had almost 20 inches of o snow. i got delayed. my flight was supposed to leave the at 7, ended up leaving at noon, and i almost missed by connecting flight in dallas. i was supposed to leave at 2:35, and i got there at 2:27. and they already had my name in the system. i was the last one they let on. >> some early morning flights on the east coast out of of sfo

resources reports the state's snow pack is roughly 20 below normal. the golden state is in dire need of moisture. >> clearly everybody's going to be looking very closely as obviously the rest of january, but then on throughout the season about whether or not we're going to get relief from this persistent dry pattern. >> officials have declared 2013 among the driest years on record. residents now being asked to deserve water. overseas that chinese ship in a chinese rescue mission needs help as well as that ship is also stuck in the ice. the ice breaker sent out a helicopter to help remove passengers from the ship other than stuck in the ice. the captain of the chinese ship says they are safe. they have plenty of flies and will be trying to break free later this morning when conditions are a little bit

more favorable. the rescued passengers are expected to be returned home later on this month. the white house says president obama and his family expected to leave honolulu tonight after a two week vacation. the first family's vacation to his birthplace spanned christmas and new year. it's the longest trip to the islands during his presidency. mr. obama spent most of the vacation playing golf, staying at a rented home on the eastern shoreline, and also posing for photos. he has also done some official visits signing a defense bill, and a budget deal easing spending cuts. an unusual alliance of tea party supporters and liberal members of congress is pursuing changes in the mandatory minimum sentence laws. they are the laws are outdated and lump offenders into one category and it robs judges the ability to use discretion and are very costly. the justice department spends 6 1/2 billion dollars on oporices

each year -- on prisons each year. a ban a on marijuana cultivation, they petitioned the california supreme court yesterday saying that prohibiting qualified medical marijuana users from growing their own pot violates the state medical marijuana laws. the supreme court ruled last year that a local governments can't outlaw marijuana dispensaries. the appeals court rulings says that applies to growing marijuana as well. 59 pets have been adopted from the tri-city animal shelter since december 3rd after a holiday promotion offering free adoptions. however, officials say many other animals still need homes. that promotion continues through today. all adoption fees including the cost of spaying and neutering, rabies vaccine and microchips will be waived. still ahead, we'll tell you about the latest on the effects

[ male announcer ] connect all your wi-fi-enabled devices with u-verse high speed internet. rethink possible. . we're back on kron4 news weekend. the effect of the breach on cards used at target stores is far reaching. aside from causing problems from potentially tens of thousands of consumers, those people on government assistance are also feeling the pinch. some of them using epi cards to access benefits are without help. the vendor of the card blocked all of the affected cards on january 1st and that left thousands of people without any access to funds. xerox notified individuals that they wouldn't have access to money until they received a replacement card. one woman affected said that came as a shock.

>> to take your card and not be notified and not have access to the money, it's just really rough. >> those affected were told it could take 7 to 10 days to receive a new card. facebook is being sued over privacy concerns. facebook users filed a lawsuit against the web site in a california court. they're claiming that facebook intercepts private messages between friends and then sells that information to marketers. the plaintiffs are hoping that the lawsuit will gain class action status. they say as many as 166 million facebook users in the u.s. qualified to join the lawsuit. facebook is saying that the allegations are without merit. still ahead for you on kron4 news weekend, the flu epidemic is now the cause of one death in santa clara county. why the county health officials are saying this particular case is very concerning. we'll have that story coming up. first, a live look outside. this is the beautiful view from

in san francisco. it happened before 10:00 on friday morning at the intersection of bush and hyde streets. a witness says she saw the entire accident unfold. >> he wasn't moving. he was laying on the ground, and he started bleeding. >> the victim was taken to sf general with nonlife threatening injuries. the driver is cooperating with investigators. the accident in san francisco just the latest in a string of dangerous collisions between cars and pedestrians within the city. kron4 news' charles clifford with a closer look at where the accidents have happened and how police are responding. >> reporter: this is an overhead google u view looking north. a woman was struck by a black suv here near the intersection of turk and leavenworth. she survived but was taken to the hospital.

the driver of the suv has not been found: an 86-year-old man was killed by a vehicle when he was struck. the driver was arrested onuses onuses -- on suspicion of vehicle manslaughter. the driver 57-year-old saed was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter. on thursday a man in his 20s was serious rigid when he was struck by a car here near bush and leavenworth. he was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries. the driver is corporating with police, and friday morning's accident occurred just a block away near bush and hyde around 9:45 in the morning. the san francisco police department said today that they don't believe these accidents are connected in any way, but that they are going to step up traffic enforcement in the areas where these incidents have occurred. >> there's no rhyme or reason why we have seen so many at

this point at this time of year. >> reporter: in san francisco, charles clifford kron4 news. new this morning, police in fairfield are investigating a homicide. it happened friday around 8:00 in the area of parkway gardens and san lucas drive. officials say the victim died at the scene after suffering from one gunshot wound. police are asking for any witnesses to come forward. a mill valley man pleading not guilty to attempted murder on the san mateo bridge. xavier clinton accused of trying to throw his wife off the bridge after an argument on december 13 december 13th. the couple was driving east on the bridge when mcclinton apparently attempted to crash their car into the bay. witnesses say he then tried to throw his wife over the bridge and witnesses barely prevented her from falling in. mcclinton then fell into the water himself. he was arrested as police pulled him out of the water. he is being held now without

showroom party boat or a cover for something much bigger. maybe it's a time machine. google glass, the head gear is expected to hit the market. the latest rumor is it will cost around $600 and come out before summer. it might be the must have gadget for 2014 or could prove to be too expense and i have not offer enough real -- expensive and not offer enough real world experience, and 2014 will be a big year for apple. we expect this to be a year we see an apple branded television, a tv set with itunes built into it, making it easy to listen to music, watch tv shows and music bought through itaupes and view your personal digital material, pictures and video from your iphone on your apple tv. and we expect the iwatch to be o unveiled, apple's take on the smart watch. samsung comes out in 2013 and the tech industry is waiting to see if apple will be next. and in the fall when the iphone 6 comes out. we expect it to be bigger.

some disappointing news coming from the sierra this morning. a snow survey taken on friday found record low snowfall amounts so far this winter. kron4 news' j.r. stone has the dry details. >> it's no ospreys it has been a very dry winter -- no surprise it has been a very dry winter, but new numbers show how dry it is. we're talking about water content. an average year, we'd have 11 1/2 inches at one location of water content. last year that was at 12.1 inches at this time. right now, and get ready for this, 2.3 inches of water content. yes, 2.3 inches at one location in the sierra. that is 20% of the average. teams with the department of water resources made measurements friday. low oest elevations -- lowest

elevation was 6700 feet. they found more bare ground than a snow. we snow. we are tied -- we are tied for the driest reading on record. officials talked about what they found in the sierra on friday. >> obviously the results are not encourages and it reflects the fact that we have had minimal storm activity this year. >> this lack of rainfall is good if no one, but it has a quicker impact on farmers who are trying to irrigate their crops. 29 agencies across the state have requested water for the coming year and at this point it appears that only 5% of that will be delivered. that means the price you pay for certain produce could then increase. so while the numbers aren't good, the hope now is for a lot of rain, and snow in the coming months. that is something that could change these numbers. j.r. stone, kron4 news. we are going to get the weather forecast on that note,

. this could be the coolest truck ever. that's because it's made completely of or mostly of ice. the car battery company in canada wanted to prove that its batteries could stand up to the cold. workers stripped the cab and body from a gmc silverado, they replaced it with blocks of ice. it drove through the streets for a mile and was featured in a commercial. after that, they let it melt. a dog who was rescued from a frozen ditch in indiana is improving this morning. two men spotted the dog on thursday and took him to the local humane society. >> i put his mouth in my hand and tried to get it warm. he just laid his hand down, like, oh, thank you, you know, and really when they brought

hours later, police found douglas' car in the parking lot of the antioch marina. natalie was in the car at the time but was unharmed when police found her. new for you this morning, a man is in the hospital after he was shot in oakland's fruit veil station, b.a.r.t. station. it happened overnight at the intersection of international boulevard and 36th avenue. as we mentioned, that is the fruitdale b.a.r.t. station. the victim is expected to survive. police still searching for a gunman right now. a storm that forced dozens of canceled or delayed flights sat sfo on friday and travelers had to wait hours for the next available flight, a marine traveling back to a base in palm springs said he had to deal with multiple delays. >> i went to believed where i was flying out at and i kept getting delayed. my flight was supposed to be at 7. we had a mini blizzard. cleveland had like 9 inches and

strikes. the family of jahei -- jahi mcmath met at a settlement conference last night after a day of court hearings. the family attorney asked a judge to force children's hospital to insert a tracheotomy tube and a feeding tube in hopes of transferring jahi. >> if i felt that my child was suffering in any type of way, i would not keep her on that machine. i love her that much that i would let her go, but since i see the improvements every day, i will fight for jahi every day until my heart stops or her heart stops. >> that was just one of two meetings in fall court on friday, and after -- federal court on friday, and aft final hearing, the -- after the final hearing, they say it is moving in a positive direction. they say that they have seen movements and reactions from jahi that gives them hope.

. a winter storm that blankets much of the eastern u.s. with snow is being blamed for at least 16 deaths. forecasters expect a weekend warm up in some areas before temperatures plunge again to record lows and windchills that could reach minus 50 degrees or even colder. connecticut among the states feeling the wrath of old man winter this weekend. and here you see some folks trying to just get their car going, clearing some of the roadways. this is in new haven connecticut. state police say that they responded to hundreds of car accidents and helping many more motorists whose vehicles were stuck in the snow. it wasn't just authorities coming to help out. >> you got to care for others. >> how are your hands doing. >> my hands are fine. i have gloves on. i'm okay. >> it's not just the snow that's causing problems for those in the northeast. in some spots, temperatures have fallen into the teens with windchills that make it feel well below freezing.

the effects of the breach on cards used at target stores is far reaching, aside from causing problems for potentially tens of thousands of consumers, those on government assistance also feeling the punch. some people who use epi cards to access benefits are without help. the vendor blocked all of the affected cards back on january 1 january 1st and that left thousands of people without any access to funds. a commissioner wrote that xerox notified individuals they wouldn't have access to the funds until they received a replacement carl. one woman affected said the halt came as a shock. >> to take your card and not be notified and not have access to the money, it's just really rough. >> well, those affected were told it could take a week to ten days for a new card to arrive. >> still ahead on kron4 news weekend, how local companies are helping you keep your new

was killed was driving a stolen car with stolen guns inside. police still trying to figure out who that man is as they suspect that the id he was carrying might also have been stolen. the accident happened about 5:30 o friday morning near the john daily boulevard off ramp. the man lost control in a gmc suv and crashed into the center divide. he then got out of the vehicle and ran across the northbound lanes of the highway. he was killed when he ran back over the divide and was struck by a car in the southbound lane. police sate driver was carrying a small caliber rifle and a bibi gun that were reported stolen overnight. the accident in san francisco the latest in a string of dangerous collisions between cars and pedestrians within the city. kron4 news' charles clifford has a closer look at where the accidents have happened and how police are responding. >> this is a google view of the san francisco looking north and on tuesday morning around 9:46 in the morning, a woman was

struck by a black suv here near the intersection of turk and eleven worth. she survived but was transported to the hospital . the driver of the suv has not been found. a few hours later, several miles to the south an 86-year- old man was killed when he was struck by a vehicle here near naples and roll f streets. the driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter. later that evening, 6-year-old sophia lieu was killed in a collision and a woman and young boy were hospitalized with serious injuries. the driver, 57-year-old was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter. on thursday a man in his 20s was seriously injured when he was struck by a car on bush and. and friday morning's accident occurred just a bob away near bush and hyde around 9:45 in the morning. the san francisco police department said today they do

an unusual alliance of tea party sporters and liberal members of congress are pursuing a change in mandatory sentencing law. mandatory minimum sentences are outdated and lump offenders into one category and they argue that the sentences rob judges the ability to use their own discretion and they are costly. the justice department spends $612 billion on prisons every year. president obama is urging congress to reinstate jobless benefits for more than one million americans. in his weekly radio address,

santa rosa. we'll take a look at where those temperatures are headed coming up in just a bit. new developments this morning, a 7-year-old girl is safe with her family after being kidnapped in antioch friday night. police arrested 42-year-old david douglas in connection with with the abduction. douglas followed natalie calvo and her mom home from a nearby wal-mart and took natalie from her home. hours later, police found douglas' car in the parking lot of the antioch marina. natalie was in the car at the time, and she was unharmed when they found her. one of b.a.r.t.'s largest unions approving a 4 year labor deal. the new agreement leaves out the disputed family medical leave provision. and workers instead will be getting extended bay bereavement leave and potential bonuses. b.a.r.t.'s other union will be voting on january 13th. a union negotiator says he's hopeful the union will approve the agreement. if approved it will end a 9

month dispute. the family of jahi mcmath are working towards moving her to another facility. they met at a settlement conference last night after a day f of court hearings. the family attorney originally asked an alameda county superior court judge to force children's hospital to insert a tracheotomy tube and a feeding tube all in hopes of eventually transferring jahi. >> if i felt that my child was suffering in any type of way, i would not keep her on o that machine. i love her that much that i would let her go. but since i see that improvements every day, i will fight for jahi every day until my heart stops or her heart stops. >> that was one of two two meetings in federal court. the family says things may be moving in a positive direction. they're hoping to get an extension to keep her on a ventilator past the current deadline. they say they have seen movements and reactions from jahi and that gives them hope.

we're back on kron4 news weekend, the effect on the breach on cards used at target stores is far reaching, aside from causing problems for tens of thousands of consumers, those on government assistance are also feeling the pinch, some using epi cards to access their benefits are without help. the vendor, xerox blocked all of the affected cards back on january 1st and that left thousands of people without access to any funds. those affected were told that it would take 7 to 10 days to receive a new card. a teacher in iowa decided to eat only at mcdonald's for 90 days to see what it would do for his health.

in san francisco. it happened just before 10:00 friday morning at the intersection of bush and hyde streets in the city. according to police, an suv traveling eastbound on bush hit the victim who was in the crosswalk at the time. a witness says she saw the entire accident unfold. >> he wasn't moving. he was laying on the ground and he started bleeding. >> the victim was taken to sf general with nonlife threatening injuries. the driver is cooperating with investigators. we have new developments this morning on a fatal highway 280 accident in daly city. the chp says the man who was killed was driving a stolen car with stolen guns inside. police trying to figure out exactly who the man is as they suspect the id he was carrying might also have been stolen. the accident happened about 5:30 near the john daley boulevard off ramp. the man lost control of a gmc suv and crashed into the center

divide. he got out of o the vehicle and ran across the northbound lanes, he was killed when he ran back over the center divide and was struck by a car in the southbound lane. police say the driver was carrying a small caliber rifle and a bibi gun that were reported stolen overnight. one person in santa clara county has died from the flu. he spoke with county health officials to say that this particular case is concerning because the victim was so young. that person was killed as a result of an h1n1. was a 41-year-old woman who lived in santa clara county. she died on december 23rd. but doctors say the woman was already severely ill when she sought medical attention. >> it's more common for people who are older to get complications from flu and to die of the flu, less common in people under 65 which is why that's what we track. and the individual that died, we actually don't have a complete medical history to know whether she had anything

we're back on kron4 news weekend. we want to get the weather forecast because it continues to be the same. and it's another spare the air day. you can see clear skies here. it's a little bit breezy. the flag is blowing. we are however expecting another round of mild temperatures for the weekend, actually. as we start your workweek, we're going to see that increasing cloud cover. temperatures are going to cool off a bit, and looks like we finally have some rain to talk about, by about midweek. first let's talk visibility. it's down to a mile in half- moon bay. 8 tenths, areas of fog, down to a mile in redwood city. it's been a chilly start for the north bay. still in the 30s in santa rosa. checking in at 38 degrees. 45 in novato.

42 degrees in concord. 48 in hayward and 51 degrees in sunnyvale. afternoon highs, another round of 60s. upper 60s for cupertino, sunnyvale, campbell. we're looking at mid 60s along the delta. 64 degrees for fairfield. upper 60s in richmond. 66 degrees for hayward. downtown san francisco, getting into the mid-60s and we're looking at mid- to upper 60s for the north bay. so if you're heading up to wine country, napa is going to get to 67 degrees this afternoon. taking a look at satellite and radar, we still have high pressure in place. that's what's keeping things dry and mild for the bay area. but, we do have some showers to talk about finally. that's going to push into tuesday and wednesday. we're not expecting much from this system, maybe less than a tenth of an inch. at least we finally get some rain here. marty. sounds good. thank you, janu. it was a record breaking

too. >> kate blanket was fantastic. >> and you connected and and cared ask the e ending is unforgottable. number three, 42, a movie that came out too early in the year. jackie robinson and his entrance into baseball has never been told better. i saw this with a group of 5th 5th grade student. great story telling and a wonderful movie. >> he did a terrific job at ricky. >> they say he was much like the real one. and number two. >> approval by matt. >> number two, saving mr. banks, we all carry emotional baggage from our childhood. the woman who wrote mary poppins had a heavy load and this explains why she didn't want to let go of her magical nanny to walt disney. wonderful acting along with a witty and poignant script.

it it's not a comedy. it's a very good film. and number one, nebraska, a movie that doesn't look as if it would be witty and wonderful. a great tail of family, the midwest and how money changes people, how money really changes people. >> and it is so good to see bruce stern back in a starring role. get through the first ten minutes and you'll be fine. runner up, jobs, the world of steve jobs and the beginningings of apple. i never thought i would say it but ashton kutcher was intriguing, who knew. and the troubled genius with a fine supporting cast. still, another movie to be a made about this is happening. steve wozniak. that should be interesting to see. more up for 2013, and i know you loved all as well. >> i did. i think it's fantastic. robert redford did a great job and he should be nominated for best actor, the way he carried

that it's given me time toabout reflect on some of life'seen biggest questions. like, if you could save hundreds on car insurance by making one simple call, why wouldn't you make that call? see, the only thing i can think of is that you can't get any... bars. ah, that's better. it's a beautiful view. i wonder if i can see mt. rushmore from here. geico. fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more on car insurance.
