pedestrian last night near city hall in the two - hundred block of van ness. the victim is the sixth pedestrian. hit by a car in san francisco in the past week, and the third death. kron-4's jeff bush has the story. >> police say that the man was involved. following that altercation the victim ran into traffic. he was hit. he was hit by a passing car. >> the driver is not at fault. police stated that the victim was a man in his 30's. he died as a result of his injuries. >> the driver will not be charged. police stated that drugs were not a factor. this is the sixth accident

within the last week. traffic officers say that the traffic accident is unrelated. >> anytime there is a loss of life. i think we all search for hot slow this down. >> the mayor has formed a task force. he wants to try to find out what can be done to reduce these fatalities. >> the flu bug is hitting hard in more areas of the country. and here in the bay area, it has become deadly. a *second person is known to have died. due to the h- 1-n-1 virus -- also known as swine flu. the number of people severely ill or hospitalized with the disease has allready surpassed last year's total. as kron 4's alecia reid explains, there's no way of telling if this year has reached its peak. >> 18 people have been

footage. police received this home security video of a burglary in the 2200 block of cipriani boulevard. police say the crime happened friday between 2:30 and 5 p.m. the first suspect is described as a black male in his late teens. he was last seen wearing a red beanie, maroon zip-up hoodie, dark jeans and black nike athletic shoes with pink highlights. the second suspect is described as a black male in his late teens to early 20s. he was last seen wearing a black beanie, sweatshirt with the phrase "new jack" written on the front, dark jeans, green boxers and black and gray basketball shoes. anyone with information on this crime or these suspects is asked to call belmont police. >> measure a funds have allowed the expansion of a homeless outreach program to san mateo county's coastal communities. police say that the county board of supervisors approved 300-thousand dollars to bring the homeless outreach team.known as hot.to the coast. the expanded coastal program includes pacifica, half moon bay and the unincorporated areas in between. the program aims to help those suffering from

addiction and incapacitating mental illnesses and bring them the services they need to become self- sufficient. hot reaches out to the homeless who are the target of the most complaints to police and the highest visits to county emergency rooms. >> dennis rodman. and a handful of other former n-b-a players. will participate in an exhibition game with north korea's national team today. it's part of a birthday celebration for north korean leader kim jong un. rodman calls it "basketball diplomacy". but many here in the u-s don't think much of it. especially the family of a korean-american imprisoned in north korea for more than a year. andrew spencer brings us the story. >> we are just outraged. we cannot believe our ears. >> he was detained and placed in a labor camp. he suffered health problems and was transferred. in an interview with cnn brought ms. stated that they did something wrong. he did not specify what. >> i do not think that he

>> welcome back. the bitter cold continues to take its toll on travellers across the u-s. here in the bay area, there are delays of about 15 minutes on arriving and departing flights. but it's a much different story in other parts of the country. nearly 500 scheduled flights are cancelled for today. that's according to the web site flight-aware dot com. most of the cancelations are at chicago o-hare, cleveland hopkins, detroit metro, and buffalo niagara airports. >> powerful video out of upstate new york where the state is experiencing blizzard conditions and strong, arctic air. at least 21 deaths are being blamed on the cold weather across the u-s. including seven people in illinois and six in indiana. several of the victims were homeless who either refused shelter or didn't have anywhere to stay warm. >> and here's what it looks like in milwaukee, wisconsin.

can".make a big differnece." >> some public utilities in sonoma and marin counties may have to institute mandatory rationing. if conditions continue to stay dry. >> mendocino county has declared a drought emergency. this is after a historic run of dry weather throughout the state has increased concerns over the water supply. mendocino is the first to request state drought assistance. officials hope the declaration will result in state funds and assistance in developing a drought plan. governor jerry brown has convened a task force to decide if a statewide drought emergency is warranted. state water managers say they will be able to deliver just 5 percent of the water sought by municipal agencies and nearly a million acres of farmland. >> a democratic bill that would provide a three month extension of long term unemployment benefits has cleared its first hurdle in the senate. the senate voted yesterday to take up a bill that *would restart the long term benefits, which

expired at the new year. six republicans joined 52 democrats and two independents. republicans are demanding the six-point-four billion dollar cost be paid for: offset with cuts to other government programs. democrats and the white house oppose offsets and republicans say it's all about politics in a midterm election year. >> the majority is dedicated to reviving desperate >> on tuesday. a democratic bill that would provide a three-month extension of long-term unemployment benefits.cleared its first hurdle in the senate with the help of a handful of republicans. democrats say they're trying to help americans struggling to pay their bills until they get back on their feet. republicans say they, too, want to help, but want to offset the 6-point-4 billion dollar price tag with cuts elsewhere.

>> just 1 in 4 young teens meet us fitness guidelines but most aren't total couch potatoes: cdc chicago - the government's latest fitness data suggest young teens aren't exactly embracing the let's move mantra. only 1 in 4 u.s. kids ages 12 to 15 meet the recommendations of an hour or more of moderate to vigorous activity every day. the results are based on about 800 kids who self- reported their activity levels and had physical exams as part of the 2012 national youth fitness survey. government researchers won't call the results disappointing, but the lead author says, "there's always room for improvement." while few met the guidelines for activity that raises the heart rate and makes you breathe harder, most said they did at least an hour of exercise at that level during the previous week. data suggest obesity may have decreased slightly among some children, but the overall rate is 17 percent, or about 12.5 million obese kids. >> los angeles county is restoring a cross to its official seal, nearly a decade after removal of a cross included in the original design. the board of supervisors voted 3-2 on tuesday to add a cross to the top of historic san gabriel mission as depicted on the seal. when the seal was redesigned

in 2004, a cross on it was removed under threat of legal action by the aclu of southern california. an image of the mission was added to the design but at the time it didn't have a cross because it was undergoing earthquake retrofitting. the cross was reattached to the historic building in 2009. recently, supervisors michael antonovich and don knabe filed a motion to add the cross on the basis of historical accuracy. >> and let's take a look at the latest gas prices. around the country, the average price for a gallon of gas is $3.31 while in california it is $3.66 and in the bay area, san francisco is where you would find the most expensive price for gas at $3.73 in oakland $3.65 and in san jose $3.65 >> live in the weather center we are waking up to areas of a drizzle and wets on roadways. i will talk about how long this will last coming up.

released started on the other side when he got into an altercation nothing physical but he was yelling with someone else he left and a truck across the street several times he bounced back and forth, he even made it into the middle of venice. he tries to finish arrest of his journey and that is when he was hit. we do not know his name at this time we do not know the most or whether this was a simple accident or suicide. nonetheless the police department is warning people and drivers that you should be aware and this person did not appear to be in the crosswalk the driver was distraught, after hitting the man, she pulled over to try to help she cooperated with police. she would not face any charges. as far as the other case at least two of them, those drivers are facing charges because they failed to yield. >>

>> welcome back. stuck on the east coast.and they can't get out. a marin county couple has been trying to fly out of philadelphia since last friday. alan pacchione and meagan keane are fed up.after weather forced south-west airlines to cancel their flights multiple times.here they are in happier times.during their trip east. but they say their real issue is that south-west didn't email, call or text them about the cancellations. then they say southwest un- cancelled a flight in the middle of the night.and texted them at six this morning.an hour before the flight was set to takeoff. they obviously couldn't make it to the airport on time. and next flight southwest could get them on.thursday.six full days after they were supposed to leave.
