>> the temperatures right now are fairly mild for some locations. downtown san francisco was at 48 degrees. concord is at 38 degrees. our cold spot is that santa rosa with 31 degrees. there might be just a little bit of patchy fog for some parts of the north bay otherwise we're waking up to clear skies. and we have high pressure and in control and offshore winds. they are blowing from east to west. also, the temperatures are above average. oakland set a high yesterday of 70 degrees. >> today, to say after note my lunchtime we're looking at 60 degrees and also some

contra costa county and san francisco -- are each reporting one death. in santa clara county there has been 4 people who have died making that county with the most flu related deaths so far this year. ifso santa clara county health officials are urging residents to get their flu shot. >> we recommend that people get the shot at it is not too late. we want people to see their doctors if they have not done so. the flu season will last until the end of march or april. it is not too late. >> santa clara county public health officials say this year they are also seeing an increase in serious cases? 13 people have been hospitalized due to the flu compared to 9 last year. >> the deadly flu is affecting bay area. stock walker. died last wednesday at santa rosa's kaiser hospital. from the h- one- n-one virus.

align >> a mass of mud slides is threatening homes in a small town in washington state this morning. the slide began last month on a major road and hasn't stopped. making it difficult for crews to get the area cleaned up. the mud brought down power lines, so residents there have no electricity. it also blocked the road so they can't get in or out. close to one hundred people are stranded. contractors hope to carve out a temporary road today so power crews can restore energy. >> we're looking at pretty mild conditions or it is 46 degrees right now. you are at 48 degrees. livermore is

where gun control advocates are calling on the gun industry to change its marketing practices. members of the "newtown action alliance" rallied outside the headquarters of the national shooting sports foundation yesterday. the alliance wants the foundation to stop marketing military-style assault weapons to children and support stronger background checks on gun sales. in a statement, the sports foundation says they are committed to improving public safety. by giving away millions of gun locks and trying to ensure there are no illegal gun sales exchanges. >> a retired florida police officer is being charged with murder. after shooting a man inside a movie theater. it happened on monday in wesley chapel, florida. it was all over a dispute with a man who was texting. during previews for "lone survivor". police say, 71-year-old curtis reeves, asked chad oulson to stop texting. then the two argued and a shot rang out. 43-year-old oulson later died at the hospital. oulson's wife was also injured in the shooting. reeves is now being charged >> we will be right back.

>> president obama will discuss everything from economic competitiveness to security with north american leaders next month. the white house says president barack obama will meet in mexico with mexican president enrique pena nieto. he will also meet with canadian prime minister stephen harper. the meeting will be the first so-called north american leaders' summit to include nieto, who was sworn in to office in december of >> so far.new government figures show it's an older and more costlier crowd that's signing up for health insurance under president obama's health care law. young adults from 18 to 34 are only 24 percent of total enrollment. officials want that total closer to 40 percent. enrolling young and healthy people is important because they generally pay more into the system than they take out, subsidizing older adults. >> the sales job is on for a bipartisan $1.1 trillion

>> welcome back. the board of governors for california's community colleges has voted to establish minimum academic requirements for a popular financial aid program. the program affects students who do not pay regular enrollment fees. under the new rules, students who do not maintain at least a c-average or complete at least half of the units they attempted during two consecutive semesters would be at risk of losing their fee waivers. the new requirement takes effect in the fall of 2016 and includes an appeals process. >> google is making one of its biggest acquisitions to date. it will pay $3.2 billion to buy nest labs, which develops high-tech versions of devices like thermostats and smoke detectors. the company's learning thermostat "has been a consistent best-seller." the thermostat is designed to learn how inhabitants like their homes to be heated and cooled. once it learns the consumers' preferences, it automatically adjusts the temperature on its own.
