jose is safe this morning -- after a fire broke out in their garage. here you can see the damage the fire caused to their cars. the fire was reported at nine o'clock last night. fire fighters arrived around nine o'clock at the single story home on el roble court. flames billowing from the garage. the san jose fire department says it stopped the fire before it got all the way into the attic. no one was injured. >> the fire department says it expects to be on scene for several more hours. the cause of the fire is under investigation. >> president smelled something in their home. when they went to investigate that from that their garage had heavy smoke. they were able to get

out and it went to their neighbors and their neighbors called 911. >> the san jose man accused in a string of suspicious fires could face a life sentence. 49- year old patrick brennan was arraigned on ten - counts of arson. and three counts of attempted arson. he is accused of starting last week's huge, 5-alarm fire at a warehouse complex, as well as a dozen other fires at a church, homes and businesses in the area just north of downtown san jose. an estimated 6 -million dollars in damage. he is being held without >> another incident puts an even brighter spotlight on pedestrian safety in san francisco. and this happened just one day, after s-f-p-d held a public meeting to address the rising number of pedestrians hit by vehicles. 21 -pedestrians were killed last year. that's the most since 2007,

making san francisco one of the 22- deadliest cities for pedestrians in the country. because of that, san francisco is eligible for a federal grant. to study the rising number of pedestrian traffic incidents. >> police say market and sixth street is the most dangerous corner in san francisco for pedestrians.but authorities are working to improve it. four people have died on that corner since 2005. as many as 140 people have been hit here. now.that intersection is what's called a bulb out intersection. a parking space was removed and a tree was planted as a barrier this extends the sidewalk farther into the street. the idea is to make it easier to see pedestrians, shorten the distance that a person has to walk to cross, and it forces drivers to make a wider right turn but, other options are being >> you can have things like countdown signals or stop

>> welcome back. developing news out of the north bay, fire crews are still on the scene of a remote wildfire. this is burning in the trees along the bolina-fairfax ridgeline between kent and alpine lakes. it started last night around 9:30. and this morning it is about 50 percent contained. crews say they are having a hard time getting to the

fire. r >> we have a hand the crews coming in to assess. our plan is to put a fire a line around this tonight using these resources. >> at this time, no one has been hurt as a result of the fire. and no homes or businesses are threatened. fire crews say the cause of the fire remains under investigation. >> most people living north of los angeles are returning home after a wildfire caused them to evacuate. county emergency officials say residents in all but one neighborhood of the city of azusa can go back to their houses. it's not clear how many are still not allowed back in their homes. the colby fire burned 2 and a half square miles. it is about 30 per cewnt contained. the fire destroyed five homes and damaged 17 houses and other structures. >> it could be it one of

>> a boy who was questioned in the philadelphia school shooting has been cleared. a second war has turned to himself in, and police looking for a third. yesterday afternoon, that voice ought to students in a gym at a high school in north philadelphia. the victims were a boy in a girl, both 15 years old. the girl was shot through the arm. the same bullet that hit her boyfriend in the shoulder. he is listed in stable condition. the girl has been released from the hospital. >> we will be right back.

>> several cities around the country have increased the minimum wage. far above the federal level of $7-25 an hour. san jose went from 8-to ten -dollars an hour just one year ago. and increased the wage to $10-15. january first of this year. now a survey by a non-profit organization says, 12 restaurants were forced to close due to the wage increase. kron-4's philippe djegal spoke with san jose city councilman sam liccardo, who says workers in his city didn't need a raise.they needed a job. >> a new study that came out stated that last year's minimum wage increase has caused some places to close them. councilman who is also running for mayor stated that he saw this coming. >> many of these small businesses are often owned and operated by people who are making close to minimum wage themselves. >> that would not provide a

list of the companies that took part in this. he stated that they were guaranteed. the study said that about 40 percent had an additional cost of the $10,000.60 $9,000 per year as a resort of this minimum wage increase. 12 restaurants reported that they had to close because of the rate hike and two-thirds of the businesses had to raise their prices. councilman stated that not all of the news is bad. >> when we have seen in downtown alone is that they're over 15 new restaurants that have opened downtown. in the long run i think this will be something positive. i like the fact that many of my residence can survive with a lease better sense of opportunity for their futures. the reality is that it will cause destruction in the

one in solano county. and two flu- related deaths in marin county. >> police in burlingame need your help in finding a driver who allegedly hit a pedestrian and took off. the crash happened at trousdale and martinez around 7 o'clock last night. the victim was seriously hurt but is expected to survive. the car is described as a gray or silver 2014 mercedes benz c-l-a with paper dealer plates. the car was last seen heading south on martinez drive. another incident puts an even brighter spotlight on pedestrian safety in san francisco. and this happened just one day, after s-f-p-d held a public meeting to address the rising number of pedestrians hit by vehicles. 21 -pedestrians were killed last year. that's the most since 2007, making san francisco one of the 22- deadliest cities for pedestrians in the country. because of that, san francisco is eligible for a federal grant. to study the rising number of pedestrian traffic incidents. police say market and sixth street is the most dangerous corner in san francisco for pedestrians.but authorities are working to improve it.

four people have died on that corner since 2005. as many as 140 people have been hit here. now.that intersection is what's called a bulb out intersection. a parking space was removed and a tree was planted as a barrier this extends the sidewalk farther into the street. the idea is to make it easier to see pedestrians, shorten the distance that a person has to walk to cross, and it forces drivers to make a wider right turn but, other options are being considered to make san francisco a safer place to walk. city leaders are also asking that pedestrians chime with their solutions of making san francisco a better place to walk. >> you can add something like a countdown a signal or a stop light. you can also do something like putting up a radar or a detection system so that the cars that are passing through know

that their speed is unsafe. >> the family attorney for teenager jahi mcmath. who was declared brain dead. spoke with kron-4's terisa estacio to update her condition. jahi went into children's hospital oakland for tonsil surgery. and suffered complications that left her brain-dead. the battle over her care between the family and the hospital attracted nationwide attention. attorney christopher dolan told kron-4 that. .jahi is in a new facility. she is doing well, and responding well to treatment. her mom is with her. and pleased with jahi's progress. she's glad that children's hospital did not remove her daughter from lime coming up on the kron 4 news app. >> coming up on the kron4

>> on welcome back. a six- alarm fire in redwood city is under control this morning , after burning five buildings and displacing 17- people. this is cell phone video of the scene. the fire started at f-m-w machine shop on douglas avenue. a little before six friday morning. this is video from our helicopter partnership with abc-7. firefighters had the fire under control by 10:30. but *before they could contain the fire, it spread to a nearby apartment complex and caused significant damage. the 17 residents who are now displaced. are receiving aid from the red cross. the fire also spread to three other industrial buildings. no injuries were reported. >> the soaring price of one
