road in modesto. and the owner at that store was also very excited about the winning ticket. one other ticket was sold in our state that matchedfive numbers, missing only the powerball number. it was was sold at 7-eleven, which is located in el segundo in southern california. safeway says. the rumors are true. the company is currently in talks with another company. which wants to buy out the supermarket chain. company officials are not identifying who they are talking with. but it has been reported that the interested party. is a new york based company. which currently operates albertson's and lucky. one safeway employee says, there was a brief announcement of the potential sale yesterday at work..and it is now unclear what might happen to her job.

people may be grocery shopping at other stores like costco, target, whole foods, trader joes. but if you live around here.chances are you hit up safeway at least occasionally. the los angeles times is reporting the two men charged with severely beating san francsico giants fan bryan stow at dodger stadium in 2011 are expected to be in court today. to accept a plea deal. marvin norwood and louie sanchez are expected to plead guilty to charges of mayhem, assault and inflicting great bodily injury in the beating of stow. the attack left the bay area paramedic with serious head trauma, and a permanent disability. which requires lifetime care. no details on the sentence that would be included in the plea deal.

campus acquaintance on tuesday -- and police are calling it a hate crime! university police say, joseph donner allegedly made homophobic comments to the 19 -year old victim and demanded his cell phone. police say, when the two reached campbell hall -- donner ordered the victim to go into a construction area. when the victim refused.

donner repeatedly punched , kicked, and choked the victim. a predator alert on the peninsula tonight after a man follows a 15-year-old girl, then asks her to have sex with him. it happened on a busy street not far from downtown san mateo. during daylight hours. police have released surveillance of the suspect. investigators are treating this as a child annoyance case but are taking it very seriously. the man is described as hispanic, in his 40's, 5- feet- 4 inches tall with dark hair and a thick mustache. a missouri public schools

house, tuesday afternoon, when witnesses say a man in a truck pulled up to her, asking for directions. "my neighbor's yelling at this man and her to get away from. he was yelling at her, saying, 'get away from the car! don't go over there!' you know, and telling him, 'don't touch her! don't touch her!'" hailey was pulled inside, and the man in the truck sped away. because neighbors were able to get the truck's license plate number, police in springfield, missouri, say the were able to find their suspect -- 45-year-old craig wood, an employee of springfield public schools -- just over three hours later. "it is a tragedy that it was not quick enough to save hailey." police took wood back to headquarters where they say he refused to talk about the missing girl and asked for an attorney. officers searched his home, finding the body of a little girl with a gunshot wound to the head. hailey's death and her kidnapping has affected many people in springfield -- from the neighbor who chased after owens in his car. "i'm very sorry. i tried, i tried my hardest to keep up with the guy to find out what he was doing, but i wasn't able to." .to the principal of hailey's elementary school. "our obligation as educators is to take care of those

kids and do what's best for them. and to waver from that is an injustice." .even to the prosecuting attorney. "as a father of an eight- year-old and 11-year-old daughters, these are very hard facts to talk about. i am just glad that he's captured and we'll be able to bring him to justice." i'm andrew spencer, reporting

them to peoria and finally to lexington, kentucky. they were finishing their last scheduled leg when the plane slammed into a hillside while attempting to land in birmingham. two years ago, the federal aviation administration issued new rules aimed at ensuring airline pilots have sufficient rest.

at least 35 people have been injured when the floor a mississippi church activity center collapsed. a youth group was in the family life center yesterday when the floor gave way and fell about 12 feet. 79 kids were in the center at the time. police say non of the injuries are life threatening chris brown is heading back to court today in washington d-c to work out the details on when his trial will start on a misdemeanor assault charge. brown was arrested in

october after a man said brown struck him outside the w hotel in washington, d.c., when he tried to jump in a picture brown was taking for fromat the time he was on probation in california for the 2009 assault on then-girlfriend rihanna. a 93-year-old woman goes to a bay area hospital for help. but ends up. the victim of a brutal assault. the vicious attack was at the hands of another patient on valentines day at san francisco general. tonight. that suspect has been arrested. but -- the victim's family says, this incident never should have happened. kron 4's maureen kelly talked to the woman's grandson, who thinks there was a breakdown in hospital security. the greatgrandmother was left bruisedand battered by the attack.take a look at this terrible gash on one of mary pereaz' forearmsallegedly sustained after another patient headed to the psych wardjumped off his gurney while being transferred out of the er friday night.and into the 93 year old's room. her family members say he beat her with the pole of her iv she say someone crazy tried to kill me she tried to cover her head because he was hitting her in the head a lot her genitialia has bruises as well and all over her body

there has been a serious lapse in security at s-f general. back in october, patient lynn spalding went missing from her hospital room. she was found more than two- weeks later. dead in a locked hospital stairwell. a review of procedures found. among other problems, that sheriff's deputies who provide security for the hospital, never checked all of the stairwells during the search for spalding.

the 13- year old oakland girl who was declared brain dead by children's hosptial oakland. while her family fought to keep her on a ventilator. a letter from mcmath's mother was posted today on social media. she praised quote - "good hearted professionals" for keeping her daughter alive. she wrote. "i know people are concerned. and i want to make sure you know that jahi is not suffering, she is surrounded by love." "hopefully my daughter can change some of the ways brain death is viewed in today's society. honestly, i think she already has." after a protracted legal battle, the family moved jahi from oakland children's hospital in december, to an undisclosed care facility outside the bay area. despite a truce called by ukraine's protest leaders and president viktor yanukovych , street fighting between demonstrators and police in kiev continues this morning. at least 28 people have been killed in the conflict.

meanwhile, diplomats from germany, france and poland are meeting today with both sides in the conflict before the european union holds an emergency meeting. a federal judge has decided not to block a san francisco law banning high- capacity ammunition magazines for guns. u-s district judge william alsup said he kept the ban in place in the favor of public interest. he added -quote- "more innocent lives will be saved by limiting the capacity of magazines." lawyers for a group of retired police officers fought the law. they said they will appeal the ruling to the 9th u.s. circuit court of appeals. the ban affects magazines that hold more than 10 automatically reloading bullets. it is set to go into effect on april 7th.

a teen arrested outside his vallejo high school after police say he was brandishing what looked like a handgun. the 14 year old was actually showing off this replica glock on tuesday. multiple calls were made to police reporting the teen. authorities say while the gun wasn't real. the replica still looked very real and it could have led to a very dangerous situation. the teenager was arrested, and cited for a misdemenor in connection to displaying the gun in public.

against san francisco's plan to allow private commuter shuttles to use public bus stops for a small fee. the 18-month pilot program, approved by the s-f-m-t-a board of directors last month. the program will charge $1 per stop for the use of muni stops by companies like google and facebook the appeal argues that the program should be subject to environmental review. the program was set to start on july 1 but could be sphene touchstoneresult of the appeal. keefe,google's super-fast internet network may be coming to a city near you. the company is exploring plans to expand its google fiber service to 34 additional cities.

the cities are located in nine metro areas: atlanta, charlotte, nashville, phoenix, portland, raleigh-durham, salt lake city, san antonio and san jose. google fiber launched back in 20-12. up to 100 times faster than most high-speed internet networks. right now, the service is only offered in three cities: kansas city; austin, texas and provo, utah. the governor and legislative leaders announced drought relief legislation today. which will funnel nearly 700- million dollars to local communities for water conservation projects. the funding will also be used to protect those most impacted by the drought. the bulk of the funding comes from bonds already approved by voters legislative leaders say, they can start getting the money out the door in two weeks.

the flu normally hits hardest on the very young and old, but not this year this year. the h1n1 virus is more dangerous to those in between. the cdc says 18 to 64 year olds account for 60 percent of flu hospitalizations this season us and a study by duke university says their average age is 28=point=five years. and 40 percent of them end up needing intensive care. that's twice as many as in the last h1n1 pandemic in 2009. the outbreak has been

especially severe in california, but the number of deaths of people under 65 years old. so far. is less than half the total for the 2009 pandemic. a central california slaughterhouse that supplies beef to the national school lunch program. is shut down. specifically. inspectors suspended operations because of unsanitary conditions. this comes after a separate incident last september -- when the company recalled 58-thousand pounds of beef after the u-s department of agriculture says it may have contained small pieces of plastic. we reached out to local school districts. and heard back from san francisco unified, and west contra costa unified.both school districts said they do not participate in the national school lunch program.

getting performance evaluations this morning. a special, closed-session meeting is scheduled for the bart board of directors at nine a-m. the district's general manager, general counsel, controller-treasurer, district secretary and independent police auditor will all be evaluated. it's been a rough several months for bart. just last month, a bart police officer was shot and killed by a fellow officer. and the district climbed out of nine months of bitter at fifth labor disputes that included two strikes that left thousands of commuters with no train service. two bart track inspectors were killed by a train during one of the strikes. facebook is expanding its mobile messaging network.

kron 4. heading into the five o'clock hour we have some shocking stories we wanted to show you. four teens in oregon are arrested. suspected of kidnapping a 15 year old boy. and trying to carve a swastika on his face! police say the victim was lured into a shed where the teens hit him in the back of the head with a crowbar. shot him with a b-b gun and then used a box cutter to mark a swastika on his forehead. the victim is allegedly a bully and the teens were looking for revenge. he finally escaped and ran

to an auto body shop nearby. the accused teens now face kidnapping and assault charges. another 14-year-year-old was arrested in case and is being charged as a juvenile. now to a story that's been getting a lot of attention on our facebook page. a pizza hut worker is out of a job and the restaurant shut down after a man urinated in the kitchen sink. this is video from youtube. it was a pizza hut in west virginia where this happened. prosecutors say no food was involved, so the man cannot be charged with assault. but customers think he should be punished. in a statement, pizza hut said it does not tolerate standards.

colorado's legal marijuana market is bringing in more tax revenue than expected. supplies the colorado governor predicts that sales and excise taxes would produce close to $98 million in the next fiscal year. the state plans to spend some of the extra money coming in on substance abuse prevention, youth marijuana gaga priorities. other states like washington which also made marijuana legal also predicts it will bring nearly $190 million over four years. voters in california will likely have to wait two more years before getting a chance to decide if marijuana for recreational use. should be legalized in the golden state.
