democratic and republican lawmakers in both real life and the tv show believe these programs such as medicare need to be reformed, that not enough money is going in and too much is going out. now let me give you a minor spoiler alert. in the first few episodes of the new season of the netflix show, lawmakers actually pass a controversial reform. they raise the retirement age to 68. in the show democrats have to do it on their own after republicans walk away right before a key vote. >> a forum is present. >> reporter: and here's the point here, the democrats do it on their own. >> now this would be a good time for a frank underwood-like aside to the camera. please understand, i'm not taking a position on raising the retirement age or medicare reforms, but regardless of the merits, it would be significant and very politically risky thing to do. >> order in the senate. >> reporter: you don't see president obama or vice

business. for example, i was having dinner in san rafael and i got into a conversation with one of the servers who was an aspiring wedding planner and she said i'm caught between a rock and a hard place because i have to build my boss's brand but at the same time i want to be a wedding planner myself and need to build my clientele. kelly richardson with sonoma tanning does it the right way where she has her employees helping to build her brand but helps her employees build their own brand, encourages them to use social networks to build their brand and future clientele. >> it is a lot of work. >> yes. one of my favorite platforms is actually hoot suite. >> i love the name. >> right? >> yeah. >> it allows you to manage all of your social networks all in one spot whether it's facebook, twitter, linkedin, even instagram. and also youtube. you can manage all of the conversations, you can manage all of the tweets, the pokes, everything all in one spot. >> fantastic. >> right. and you can even schedule, this is the coolest part, you can
9:49 am
even schedule of your tweets, your posts, everything at the beginning of the week and they can roll out during the week as well. >> you can plan them ahead? >> exactly. >> what a great idea. >> make sure they are insightful, you can share articles, anything you want. >> but still spending a lot of time doing this. is there something easier? >> yes actually. i just discovered this one. this is the ease just -- easiest one you could possibly use. zoot rock and this allows you to share tons of articles that they find for you. >> they find them for you? >> you do. you fill out the form and you say i want articles about this subject, i don't want articles about this subject, i want these key words in the articles as well, and then it will send out anywhere between two and 10 tweets per day and i'm going to tell you, i have been researching the web for a long time, constantly looking for great articles. i have never had more engagement with the articles that i have been posting. they are absolutely amazing.
9:50 am
so the first two per day are free and if you want any more, they do run between three and $70 per day. >> that was going to be my next question of how much they charge. >> yeah. >> wedding planner that you met, the potential wedding planner and she starts one of these things, i would assume that she would want to get one of these companies to start sending out these tweets for her to kind of build a fan base, right? >> right, definitely would. another thing she could do is go onto a site like corea and this is a question and answer site so she could actually go on and she could find anyone who is asking questions about weddings or a friend of mine had best destination wedding.com and she could even go on and find people that are looking for the best location to have their wedding around the world and she could actually start by saying, okay, well, i'm going to answer a question with a question. do you like cold places, do you like hot places and get the people to start engaging with you and then even more people start engaging. and that's the way that you can start building your credibility and your expertise because people are going to take notice
9:51 am
and say, that person really knows what they are talking about. >> so this is more of a niche type of program that we are talking about here, the corea? >> right. you can even have douglas moskowitz, one of the $14 of facebook and sauna, a productivity platform which is amazing and let's say you want to work with him at some point and you can go on and follow his profile, see what questions he's actually following, what he is actually posing and let's say you're an engineer and he's asking some technological questions, you can go on and share your insight and at some point if he likes what you have to say, he'll take notice and you could ultimately get a job with them. a lot of recruiters go onto corea to see who is actually sharing their expertise on there. >> who is being strategic about all of this. linkedin groups could also serve the same purpose, right? >> exactly. when you go onto linkedin, sign up for as many groups as you can that relate to the topic that you want to build your expertise in. just make sure that you're always adding insight and adding value. >> yeah, that's it. because you just don't want to
9:52 am
waste people's time. >> no. >> just like you would not want to waste your own time looking at somebody's tweet or something like that. >> no. and you could also do the same thing, you can hijack a blog so -- you know, this is the funny thing when i was working at forbes, i would write an article let's say on crowd funding and right after i'm done writing the article it posts i get a call from a pr person that says you didn't include the ceo of this company or that company and i said i'm not writing a new article, have the ceo go into the comment section and actually add value, add their insight. >> there you go. >> and then they can start the conversation, a ceo of a company called beanie shells, they make these thin shelled concrete structures, environmentally friendly structures. i wrote an article about beanie shells and -- >> there you see it there. >> and the ceo said i love the article that you wrote. i'm really flattered but i want to take this article in a whole new direction. so he started adding insight in the comment section, posed a
9:53 am
question to potential followers and literally like 40 comments later there is this amazing conversation in the -- and the editor took note of it and he actually took that conversation and it in "forbes" magazine and so it was an amazing way for someone to build their credibility and build their expertise and gain a following. >> you've given us a lot of different sites here that people can use and get involved and kind of dip their feet in the pool to kind of get an idea what's going on. >> right, i hope so. >> thank you so much, kim mcnicholas. we will be right back.
