this morning on the kron 4 morning news. the second of two big storms is here. it's drenching the bay area. and bringing punishing winds. we're tracking the storm for you all morning. the bay area is officially at the start of a second storm tonight. more rain is on the way. with details on what to expect overnight and for the morning commute. that livermore is here livermore avenue of 580 westbound also reports of high standing water in the lanes. as well as in this palo alto area on 1 01 the sout the freeway at oregon expressway. caltrans is one

to have their hands full this morning trying to keep up with all of this. >>anny:we have team coverage on the storm. kron 4's mike pelton is live in daly city. where weather is causing some collisions this morning. mike? well as any we've seen about a week's worth of minor collision so far this morning on freeways all across the bay area one of those incidents just cleared along the 280 behind me. here's the scene as the chp says around 230 this morning the driver of a ford explorer was heading north out to 80 years sarah montana and lost control of his vehicle crashing into the center guilt smashing the front windshield. they tell me no other cars were around at the time but he hit a large bottle before losing control. those people inside the explore are ok. this is the had the shutdown to lanes of traffic before the cleared the same. every time it rains the chp tells

us their advice to drivers is to slow down. take your time and as you saw the road first leg. >>: it's been raining in the east bay. kron4's jacki cecil is in the north bay. no break out here in the north ave. you can see a the rain continues to start here. the thing that you're really going to notice is how much pulling is going on. on the roadways and not only on the freeways but the surface streets it is coming down hard.

flooding has become an a issue as we continue at the current rate. obviously it's something we're going to monitor will let you know what's going on when it's happening and the north ave. i haven't had to cross the bridge yet this morning. i don't know about that i could tell you what no one is pretty much passable. obviously at this point there is some taunting and pulling going on, but that's pretty common for as much rain as we've got in such short amount of time. it's something that will be watching all morning long care and lucky drive in san rafeal the to the tories offer flexible monitoring the situation obviously. >>: thank you jacki.

welcome back. a frightening scene on interstate 580. as a driver shoots at an s-u-v with a man and a young girl inside. this is video from our helicopter partnership with abc 7 news. it happened during yesterday evening's commute in the castro valley area. the freeway was shut down for about an hour but there.

look at the bottom part of the windshield on the driver's side and you can see at where one of the bullets went through. and then to the st of the where the driver and his young passenger were sitting. the good news is that neither of them were injured but as you can imagine they were very scared and glad to be alive. police spread out and did a line sweep of the freeway looking for showcasing-to showcasing and the other evidence they could find. chp shut down 580 during the investigation. a look. you can see just how far the back up when it. drivers were stuck miles back with no place to go frustrated and irritated many of the drivers got out of their cars and were wondering just how long the closure would go on. i will talk about

comeback time now is 414. it is wet out there. the storm early drinking lots of rain and some have the wins. here is erica tracking where it is raining the heaviest. that i suspect a lot of people are watching because you simply can't sleep all the rain. the heaviest downpour is currently and east bay and south bay as resume in here on our maps. you can see here in the san jose area. under this or color were seen rainfall at about a half-inch per hour. if the system continues to work its way north and east. the man with some light rain and the sunnyvale and

cupertino areas but as we turn our attention to the east bay. the clock that is right is moving over highway 4 down through concord walnut creek. mostly yellow and orange. expect to use your windshield wipers as you had up to the bay bridge toll plaza. light rain right now for the mid peninsula. nothing compared to what we're seeing for places like san francisco. here in the city it looks like light rain, the over 26. definitely keep the mind that we do have areas of pounding out there. it's pretty heavy rain falling over portions of highway 101 approaching san rafeal and the richmond san rafael bridge. the heavy rain will continue for at least the next couple of hours and past and that it looks like we will see just the scattered showers throughout the afternoon hours in the evening. take a look at 7:00 this evening. heavy rain still expected.

it looks like we could catch a dry break for san francisco. perhaps have your ride for napa and vallejo. but as to put the clock into motion, will see lighter rain by lunchtime. rain valley tapering off as we head into the afternoon. by 3:00 i think will see mostly dry conditions for the south bay and the coast. if tonight should be too bad except cloudy skies will look like summer and will return for the overnight hours. expect to wake up to wet weather on early saturday morning. we do have high wind advisories also an effect in the bay area until 10:00 today. we have strong winds if you're heading up north. gus up to 40. judge-wind gusts. your 7 day around the bay forecast shows a drier weather by sunday. looks to be mostly

dry into next week with a few chance for showers. let's go kron4's will tran who is live on the san mateo bridge tracking the storm in hayward. the morning will. >>will: not so bad. i'm not complaining now. 30 minutes ago it was just a downright shower. right now we have a light sprinkle and it's probably even worse because of the windy conditions. you can see the cars. you have to drive slowly. being out here i've seen some cars and drive. even if it's not raining now is so many of those on the roadways. if you don't believe me check this out. we shot this video around 345 in the morning. it was really coming down hard about 20 minutes ago. i put the camera and the back of my car. i put it on a tripod and i started driving northbound on 880 just to show you how hard the rain was coming down at that

time. i purposely got behind a car just to show you the lights it was puddling even at that time. and of course even though it's not raining right now those puddles are still there. people were going very slowly. the best thing that could possibly happen to you this morning is bumper-to-bumper traffic. and just being a traffic reporter. that's the best thing because you don't have the temptation to speak. if we can get back live we want to show you not only are you dealing with the rainy conditions you're also dealing with the windy conditions with the two flags across the san mateo bridge best advice to hands on the well-judged to hands on " wheel. the >>: here is george to let us know what we are expecting this morning. high wind

former police officer were indicted by a federal grand jury. the group is accused of taking part in illegal rates where they allegedly st drugs and other valuables and a lot about it. the incidents were cost and surveillance video. in response, san francisco's police chief held a news conference about the indictments. the chief said the five active-duty officers have been suspended without pay and their weapons have been confiscated. a live without live from our roof camera. we have more coverage of this wet and windy weather and the storm.

google is mysterious barge may be heading to the port of stockton. google has until next friday to comply with in order to leave treasure island because it lacks the proper permits for the barge at that location. but the barge may not receive a warm welcome in stockton either. the director of the port says he has not been told about google plans. a great night on the ice in philadelphia for the sharks. joe belsky had a hat trick to move into a tie for second in the nhl in goals and scored and raffi torres

time coming up 1/4 thirty. that it is raining hard out there. in a wind gusts up to 40 mi. per hour. here's erica with more on where that rain is headed this morning. >>erica: i wanted storm tracker 4 to show you the orientation of the system. it's a little different than storms with tracked in the past. in fact the showers are approaching from salt north. 50 of the movement going on. down in the south bay dealing with some heavy rain. in fact as we look at some of the rainfall rates currently falling. it looks like we are seeing at a rain of to a quarter of an inch per hour falling just south of san jose. pretty similar weather happening right now in milpitas. you can also see areas of want on your screen. that's where we're actually seeing rainfall at a rate we have seen active weather like this in quite some time in the bay area. a

lot of rain as expected with this system and you can see why. dealing with heavy rain pretty consistently. looks like walnut creek in dealing with heavy rain right now. that continues on through the san ramon valley. also dealing with similar conditions along the east bay shoreline. oakland alameda san leandro them with heavy rain right now looks like light rain is on the way. will start to decrease within the next hour or so. distilling with some light rain along the peninsula. here in san francisco looks like some of the heaviest rain started to taper off the chill still need to use your web show wipers and i will be surprised if you encounter some areas of flooding. as we turn our attention to the north bay just a pocket of heavy rain. a rainfall rates just showing a rang at about a 10th of an inch per hour. what happened in the north bay is nothing in comparison to the rain were currently experiencing in the south bay and east bay. futurecast 4 shows that the heavy rain will continue on through the

there's also been flooding reported for the westbound 580 ride heading pass livermore avenue and also a little more slowing their as well. at 101 a couple problem spots. a softball at oregon expressway and northbound on the northbound lanes here at the montague expressway. also reports of high standing water. if you should encounter that, just remember to steer in the direction that your car is traveling and do not jump on your brakes. it does get off the gas and electric cars start speed adjust. so that when the whales regain traction there and the direction they need to be heading. here's a look at some power outages. according to pg&e is website hundreds are without power this morning. and san jose, 2100 are in the dark and in napa county, around 8300 barrasso and the dark. pg&e is reporting power should be restored by 7:00 this morning in these

currently falling at about a quarter of an inch per hour. we already have reports of flash flooding and the san jose and santa clara areas. also continue with some pretty heavy rain and the east bay. looks like we are taking a break right now and antioch. the club will be dealing with some pretty heavy downpour making your way through the caldecott tunnel and making your way through the macarthur maze. rain now falling as heavy. kind of like a shower out there was still dealing with some pretty heavy showers for the mid and lower peninsulas. san francisco right now catching a dry break for the heart of the city just chilling with some light rain along the coastline and deal with some light rain if you're heading to the lower deck of the bay bridge. up and up marin county. it is working its way north. approaching san rafael. we could see rainfall from an average of about two tenths and and an hour. i would be surprised if the counter flooding this money because the rain is coming down by the buckets.

senator barbara boxer is pushing the centers for disease control and prevention. to figure out what is causing polio-like paralysis in some california children. about twenty children in the past year- and a half. have reportedly gotten the rare illness. two of those cases are happening right here in the bay area. now senator boxer is asking the c-d-c. to start an investigation. specifically, to find out whether the illness is a virus. or based on

enviormental factors. and, if there are other cases nationwide. earlier this week, stanford university doctors called the cases a rare phenomenon. a petaluma woman gets 90 days in jail and three years' probation for stealing money from her step-children.money from a settlement following their mother's death. kendall yvonne mathis pleaded no contest to one count of felony grand theft and was ordered to pay nearly $40-thousand in restitution.

also concerned about the lands because we have downed power trees. we are already getting reports of that, the bay area more details on that forecast at where it's raining now with erica. >>erica: take a look-storm tracker 4. all lit up. intense showers coming up and the san ramon valley out and the livermore valley. in fact this area of large indicate to rainfall rating at is rate of about 1 in. per hour. it's coming down like a bucket. as we turn our attention to the east bay shoreline heavy rain right now and oakland and alameda areas. looks like the rain intensified over castro valley. we did have some heavy rain. but still we have areas of conde.

depending on the climatology the rose creek that's something we can certainly run into for the duration of the morning. i want to talk about the orientation of the system. this system is actually approaching from the south working its way north. the sun actually sliding into the bay area. although the center load is not over us that's closer to monterey county. we're still dealing with significant rain. heavy rain right now crossing the san mateo bridge. looks like we will be dealing with light rain however crossing the bay bridge spans. up in the north bay not too bad. graeme not as bad and the north bay as what we are scene and east bay and south bay. in terms of when we have pretty windy conditions for vallejo 21 mi. per hour winds the there. could see
