>> reporter:once cuffed.he's led back across the highway.back over the median.and into the backseat of a cruiser. this video here courtesy of our helicopter partnership with abc7 news. kron four's maureen kelly now.explains *how the c-h-p was able finally end this pursuit. >> reporter:the chase ended after the box truck ran out of rubber.all six of it's tires deflated.by a chp spike strip.you can see the nails sticking out of the treads here.the truck.fully loaded with merchandise. is listing to one side in this video.because a few wheels are down to the rims.about a quarter mile back.i found one of the tires still smoking.apparently flying off during the slow speed pursuit. >> reporter:the chp says it all started at 8:30 this morning when the owner of cassil trucking in fairfield saw a former employee alledgely stealing the truck and called 9-11. the driver took off when officers arrived and lead them on a chase more than 50 miles. >> reporter: strip like this one here in oakland.which slowed the truck down from travelling 65 miles an hour.to 25. >> reporter:the pursuit continued onto the bay

bridge.this video show how traffic was brought to a halt at the toll plaza just past 9:30a.the tail end of the commute >>officers did some traffic control on the bridge and stopped traffic, there was a report that this party was armed, we were concerned about the safety of the public >> reporter:the 26-thousand pound rig came to a stop on south bound 101 in san francisco just after the cesar chavez off ramp.at around 10-am >> reporter:and that's when 46 year old hector fuentes got out of the rig and took off running.jumping the median and crossing all of the northbound lanes before he fell.and was taken into custody. it turns out he was not armed.he has been placed under arrest for auto theft, evading a peace officer, resisting arrest and possession of stolen property. southbound traffic in the city remained snarled for another two hours until the disabled rig could cleared from the scene. maureen kelly kron4 news. >> reporter:as the chase got underway.we first reported about the major commute mess on the kron-4 morning news. here's more of the scene.. >> catherine: traffic - was nearly at a stand-still.

the toll plaza was closed for about 10-minutes. and all of this - did some serious damage to the late- morning commute. kron-4 talked to some of the traffic. >> catherine: and you can check the traffic. from just about anywhere on the kron-4 news app. >> catherine: a 4-year-old girl is in grave condition tonight -- after a head-on crash early today in fremont. her mother is also hospitalized in critical but stable condition as kron four's rob fladeboe reports, police suspect she was driving under the influence.

>> reporter:fremont police say the head-on collision occurred shortly after midnight here on osgood road midway between auto mall parkway and blacow road and that the drivers of both vehicles are suspected of being under the influence. >> reporter:this was the scene as police arrived. both vehicles surrounded by crash debris as investigators determined the woman and her 4-year-old daughter, traveling in a honda civic, crossed over the center line and into the on-coming toyota sedan, whose driver was also hospitalized briefly for minor injuries. >> reporter:what stands out in this video of the scene is right there amid all the debris on the pavement. the child's car seat. investigators believe the child was in fact strapped into her car seat but that the car seat itself was not secured to the vehicle with a seat belt and that almost certainly contributed to the child's injuries.

>> basically we would have it considered an unbuckle child in the seatbelt. so, the car seat was tossed to one side of the bill to the other. one side of the vehicle. >> reporter:police say it's rare for both drivers, neither of whom has been identifed, to be suspected of drunk driving. the driver of the toyota was cited on suspicion of driving under influence even though the preliminary investigation shows the other vehicle, whose driver remains in critical but stable condition, was at fault. charges against her are pending. >> reporter:police say toxicology tests to determine the blood-alcohol content of both drivers >> reporter:could take weeks but that should her 4-year- old daughter die, her mother could face possible

manslaughter charges. in fremont rob fladeboe kron 4 news. >> reporter:just hours after that accident.another in fremont.and in this one.a pedestrian was hit and killed. police say a corvette hit a person in a crosswalk around 6-am. the accident happening on washington boulevard near olive avenue. police say the driver stopped at the scene.saw the body and called 9-1-1 right away. the driver later told officers he thought he hit a bird. washington boulevard was closed during the investigation. the victim's identity has not been released. >> catherine: a martinez community is in mourning tonight -- after a 14-year- old was hit and killed by a train. it happened yesterday. >> catherine: jenna betty was sitting on the tracks with her boyfriend when a train came. >> catherine: that's according to a facebook post by her mother. >> catherine: jenna reportedly moved away from the tracks - but apparently went back to get her cell phone. as for why her daughter was near the tracks - her mother wrote that she'll never know >> catherine: why they made that terrible decision. kron4's will tran has reaction from the teenager's school.

>> reporter: a warning for parents using noise machines to help their babies sleep. a new study says some of them may be too loud, increasing an infant's risk from for hearing loss. researchers say some noise machines exceed safe noise levels for adults, let alone infants. >> reporter:the study does not identify any specific models. the authors recommend away as possible from the infant. and only playing them at a low volume for a short time.

there are very concerned that there could be flooding the major artery for residents in spokesperson says that it will not be affected for anyone else here and that is not known why the main broke. >> catherine: facebook is reportedly offering to put up $600-thousand dollars to pay the salary for a full time police officer in menlo park. >> catherine: if approved by the city council tomorrow, menlo park would add a person to the force and assign that officer to a new police substation in the belle haven neighborhood. >> catherine: facebook is building a west campus just few hundred yards from the substation. its offer would cover the salary and benefits for an officer for three years. the company is also offering to pay $215- thousand dollars to build the substation and community center. >> catherine: this comes just a week after google made another big donation in

investigating whether the death is related same location. she >> reporter:two dead bodiestwo separate incidentswithin weeksboth on the same property. oakland police investigators say there maybe a connection. on monday the alameda county coroner confirmed that the burned body found here early saturday morning in the rear this apartment building is that of 56-year-old richard >> reporter:this is crime scene video from the same address on the 1800-block of 34th avenue back in febuary when a police welfare check led to the discovery of 77- year-old susan fong's dead body. she was found bound and gagged along with her 56-year-old nephew who police say was not harmed during the incident. the crime is being investigated as a home invasion. >> reporter:both victims lived heresusan fong in this unit on the bottom floorrichard fang in this upper unitat least one neighbor i spoke to hear told me that they knew mr. fang, that he was a nice person and that they would see him every now and then
