flames. the blaze then spread to the vacant auto warehouse. the fire was out in about an hour. today, community members in san francisco will get to weigh in on whether to tax soda and other sugary drinks. a town hall meeting is scheduled for tonight 6 o clock at st. mary's medical center. a proposal has been introduced to place a tax of 24 cents on each can of soda sold in the city. the measure would need the support of the board of supervisors to be put on the november ballot. it would raise around 31 million dollars a year for san francisco. stanford - becomes one of the cinderalla stories of march madness. the cardinal pulled their second upset of the ncaa

the macarthur maze. developing storyin washington state this morning, hope is fading to find any survivors from a massive mudslide that killed at least 8 people over the weekend.at least 18 are feared missing. crews spent all night looking for survivors they heard shouts for help late saturday. but yesterday nothing was heard.. the mudslide hit saturday morning in snohomish county and measures 1 square mile. it also destroyed about 30 homes. authorities believe the slide was caused by ground made unstable by recent heavy rainfall. a massive oil spill has the houston ship channel shut down. and there's no timetable for reopening the

busy water way. a barge carrying about 900,000 gallons of oil collided saturday with a ship, spilling nearly 170,000 gallons of tar-like oil. more help is being called in today to contain the spill and protect shorebird habitat. oil had been detected 12 miles offshore in the gulf of mexico. the channel has important shorebird habitat on both sides and tens of thousands of wintering birds are in

pursuing a woman in palo alto who was not interested in him. the young woman was in her driverway on channing ave cleaning out her car when police say 20 year old carlos bejinez walked over and told her he was a tree trimmer. bejinez also told her that there was a dangerous tree on her property and offered his services. the woman told him to speak with her landloard but police say that was when the suepct came back three more times to bother the woman.

the victim called the police and they were able to track him down with a business card he left with the victim. a peeping tom is behind bars tonight after repeatedly pursuing a woman who was not interested in him. it all happened at the woman's home on the 1100 block of channing avenue in palo alto. kron 4's alecia reid tells us exactly what the suspect did. not taking no for an answer

is what police say landed 20 year old carlos bejinez behind bars. a young woman was in her driveway cleaning out her car when cops say he walked over and told her he was a tree trimmer --- gave her his cardsaid there was a dangerous tree on her property and offered his services. she brushed him off, telling him to speak to her landlord. police say he left, then came back, telling her how provacatively she was dressed and asked her age. the victim went inside her home to escape him. he left once again but came back, knocking on the front door then went as far as peeping through the windows. when no one answered he left once again.

but that wasn't enough so he came back. when the nanny answered, officials say he made a lewd comment directed towards the victim. once he left, the family called authorities. now remember that business card he left with the victim? police used it to track him down - posing as someone that needed their tree trimmed. within minutes the officers were able to locate him so we were still in hot pursuit. there wasn't a long delay in the time he committed the crime and the time police stopped him. they met with him a couple blocks away and at that

time he was identified as the person that peeked through her window. and he was placed under arrest. bejinez was arrested for harassment and peeping, both misdemeanors. he was also driving on a suspended license ---- and was on probabtion in san mateo county for purchasing or receiving a firearm while, according to a court order, was banned from doing so. not very smart. maybe it was a spur of the moment thing? but he was in trouble before so. violating his probation was a felony. police tell us bejinez will remain behind bars until the next time he meets with his probation officer. reporting in palo alto alecia reid kron 4 news.

bejinez was arrested for harassment and peeping, both misdemeanors. he was also driving on a suspended license new this morning. about 300 same-sex couples who rushed to get married in michigan this weekend may not have their marriages recognized by the state. a federal judge threw out michigan's constitutional ban on gay marriage friday.

department of motor vehicles says there's no evidence of a computer breach, but it's launching an investigation. dmv spokesman says the agency was alerted by law enforcement to a potential security breach within its online credit card processing systems. the dmv will review its systems and seek information from the outside vendor that processes credit card transactions and from credit card companies. the california department of motor vehicles said saturday there's no evidence of a computer breach, but it's launching an investigation "out of an abundance of caution."

dmv spokesman armando botello said the agency was alerted by law enforcement to a potential security breach within its online credit card processing systems. "there is no evidence at this time of a direct breach of the dmv's computer system," botello said in a statement. but the agency has opened an investigation, and was cooperating with state and federal authorities. as part of the probe, dmv will review its systems and seek information from the outside vendor that processes credit card transactions and from credit card companies. krebsonsecurity.com was the first to report the possible breach, which it says involved online payments from aug. 2, 2013, to jan. 31, 2014.

a spokesman from mastercard said it was investigating reports of a potential breach at the california dmv. seth eisen said mastercard's own systems have not been breached. eisen said mastercard has sent out alerts to member banks. he advised consumers to review their accounts and contact their card issuer for assistance. the dmv said it has increased monitoring of its website. any affected customers will be notified, the agency said. the holes in tillamook swiss cheese are actually

>>: happening right nowsan leandro police arrested a teenage driver in a deadly head-on crash over the weekend. investigators say 19 year old jesus antonio godinez was speeding on east 14-th street when he crossed into oncoming traffic near davis street on saturday night. that's when he hit another car head-on.killing one man and leaving another seriously injured. police say the teen may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time. hundreds of people are expected to attend a memorial service this week for a slain mendocino county sheriff's deputy. deputy ricky del fiorentino was killed in a shootout near fort bragg.after confronting a man suspected of murder in oregon. del fiorentino was a 26-year law enforcement veteran.who also had ties to the bay area. he graduated from napa high back in 19-83. the public memorial service will be held wednesday at the cotton auditorium in

and we have new information on the suspect that killed deputy del fiorentino. investigators say 32-year- old ricardo antonio chaney was released for lack of evidence and manpower in the office. chaney had been arrested march 6 by eugene police, who suspected he had a stolen cellphone and stopped his car for traffic violations. they found several guns in the vehicle, including a rifle that appeared to be illegally modified. they also found body armor and methamphetamine. police arrested him and

released him the same day. and it was last week when chaney killed a man, carjacked a vehicle and drove to mendocino county where he shot and killed deputy ricky del fiorentino before being killed in a shootout police. california's drought is sparking a new push to expand water storage in the state. government agencies have been studying five major water storage projects for nearly two decades, but now california's congressional delegation is providing a jumpstart. bills proposed in congress would authorize a number of projects to expand or create reservoirs. the state just experienced one of its driest winters on record, forcing some communities to ration water and farmers to fallow thousands of acres. ships are heading to two

industrial nations. the u.s. and europe say russia's annexation of the crimean peninsula from ukraine is a violation of international law. another case related to president barack obama's health care law is before the supreme court this week. the court is hearing arguments today in a religion-based challenge from family-owned companies that object to covering certain contraceptives as part of the law's preventive care requirement. the companies are willing to cover most methods of contraception, as long as they can exclude drugs or devices that the government says may work after an egg has been fertilized.
