>> reporter:according to the complaint, in august 2013.leland yee's campaign consultant, keith jackson, told an undercover fbi agent. that yee had a contact with "an internatoinal arms dealer. who was shipping large stockpiles of weapons to a foreign country. >> >> reporter:fast forward to january 2014, the agent, jackson and yee meet at a coffee shop in san francisco. the agent tells jackson. he gave $5,000 to yee for the sole purpose of meeting the arms dealer. yee allegedly assures the agent, the opportunity to purchase weapons from the dealer was the real deal. saying quote i know what he could do, i have seen what he has done in the past on other products and this guy has the relationships.". according to yee, the arms dealer has contacts in russia, ukriane, boston and southern california. >> reporter:yee tells the agent, "do i think we can make

some money? i think we can make some money. do i think we can get the goods? i think we can get the goods." the agent then asks for shoulder fired missiles and automatic weapons. worth 500-thousand to 2.5 million dollars. >> reporter:with yee ending the conversation.he wanted the agent and jackson to make all the money because "he didn't want to do to jail." >> reporter:the document says. just two weeks ago. yee met with jackson and the undercover agent and openly discussed how they would break up any cash payments into ligitimate campagin donation. >> reporter:at that meeting, the agent was ready to give yee $68-hundred dollars in cash. campaign donations can only be $500 dollars. >> catherine: yee's alleged connection to the illegal firearms trade came as a shock to people who knew him as a crusader for tighter gun control. grant lodes is here with the gleeful reaction from the gun lobby.
