this morning on the kron 4 morning news. new information on a deadly california: a fed ex tractor trailer hit a bus full of students from southern california. who were on their way to tour humboldt state university. the crash happened in glenn county, west of chico. a national transportation safety board team is set to arrive thois morning. to figure out what happened. stephanie elam is live in glenn county for us this morning. humboldt state university released a statement after the crash tonight -- saying quote. our hearts go out to those who have been affected, and we are here to support them, way possible. fed-ex *also released a -- quote -- "our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in the california. we are cooperating fully with authorities as they investigate." several people took to twitter and other social media to post pictures of the crash and its

aftermath. >>james:you're looking at some of those here. witnesses on the scene say emergency workers were on hand to help the walking wounded, to a transport bus. sought strong smell of burned hours after the crash. new this morning. a 7.3 magnitude earthquake has hit off the south pacific nation of papua new guinea. a 6.7 aftershock hit the area shortly after. there have been no reports of damage or injuries, but officials are warning quakes of this magnitude can sometimes provoke local tsunamis. earthquakes are common in papua new guinea. "ring of fire." an arc of earthquake and volcanic activity that stretches around the pacific rim.

and another powerful quake rattled nicaragua on thursday. the 6.1 magnitude tremblor caused some residents to lose electricity. no injuries or damages have now on to the developing story of 49ers quarterback colin kaepernick -- under investigation for his alleged actions off the field. case of a sexual assault involving kaepernick and two here's kron 4's j-r stone. good morning. it is friday, april 11th. the report says of the woman that was climbing these allegations against kapernick started to drink with kapernick. this a kapernick came behind her and started kissing her. she advises police she started kissing and kapernick started to advise her. they did not have sex. they said

409 on the clock. now on to the developing the official death toll from the landslide in washington state has now reached 36. eight people are missing. the u-s geological service now says the slide happened

when 15-million cubic yards of earth turned to crushing fluid. one local woman and her rescue dog are back home after helping in the search for bodies at the site of the slide. she talked about the devastation with kron-4's philippe djegal. shay cook and her six-year- old german shepard named rixi are back home in concord after spending three days in oso washington. a trip cook describes as. a community cook says has been reduced to nothing.

one square mile of land covered in mud. through searching for human remains. rixi and cook are one of three rescue teams from the bay area sent out to oso representing the california cook says oso has a long road to recovery. and, when asked if she and rixi would ever return there. we will go. that's what we do. in the meatime, rixi wil continue chasing tennis balls, while cook returns to her desk job at u-c berkeley. in concord, philippe djegal, kron four news.

australian authorities are confident that several signals detected in a remote section of the indian ocean are coming from the black box of flight 370. the latest detection of an underwater signal came from sensors designed for u-s navy combat. the tough questioning for oscar pistorius by the chief prosecutor continues today in his murder trial. the prosecutor has accused the athlete of lying about how he fatally shot his girlfriend, reeva steenkamp. the double-amputee runner said he killed steenkamp by accident after mistaking her for an intruder. the prosecution says pistorius killed the woman after an argument. los angeles deputies admit they shot and killed an innocent man earlier this week. the man killed was john winkler.an aspiring tv

producer. deputies were responding to a hostage situation monday night. they say they fired at a wounded, bloody man running out of an apartment. they also shot and injured another man running behind him. those men turned out to be escaping hostages. the second victim was shot in the leg and is in stable condition. there is concern that terrorists might be plotting an attack against s-f-o -- or bart. it all stems from this picture. which recently appeared in an online magazine published by the terrorist group al-qaeda. the picture shows a solitary figure sitting on a tram at s-f-o. and it includes a captions like "pack your tools of destruction" and "assemble your bomb, ready for detonation." an east bay lawmaker voiced his concern at a homeland security hearing. kron -4 also spoke with a retired diplomat in the bay area who says he believes the photos are most likely only a recruitment tool. and not an indicator of any specific plot against the

airport or bart. p-g&e says it will give a quarter-million dollars to anyone who comes forward with information leading to the arrest of those involved in an attack on the company's metcalf substation near san jose. it happened nearly one year ago. a sniper -- or possibly more than one -- fired at the substation, knocking out phone lines and causing extensive damage. p-g&e is working with the f-b-i and homeland security. hired 24-7 security guards, added enhanced lighting and video surveillance. and more fencing and shielding in and around a number of p- g-and-e properties. another bay area visit from former secretary of state hillary clinton. she spoke at san jose state university last night as part of a lecture series featuring prominent women.

but it's what happened in las vegas earlier in the day that has people talking this morning. ".was that a bat?" no. it was not a bat. it was a shoe! a secret service agent says the woman who threw the shoe was taken into custody -- and will face criminal charges. she was only identified as a protester. it's not clear what she was protesting. mrs. clinton joked about it afterward. she was a guest speaker at the meeting of the institute of scrap recycling industries at the mandalay the warriors still trying to lock down a playoff spot in the west. will have to wait at least one more game. golden state at home against the denver nuggets last night. stephen curry's floater over kenneth faried put the warriors up 99-98 with 4.7 seconds to play, sending the announced sellout crowd of 19,596 roaring to their feet. but faried quieted fans moments later with a turnaround hook shot over draymond green with a half- second remaining, and the denver nuggets made golden state wait at least one more game to secure a playoff berth with a stunning 100-99

thieves knock a hole through from a san francisco store. they got away with thousands of dollars in merchandise. and now. kron four's jeff bush says. the store's owners may have to close the monkey on chestnut

jewelry stor sits between a restaurant and a dry cleaners and was hit by burglars on april first. the two men thought they could obscure their faces because they thought they knew where all the cameras were. they didn't. you can see this burglar used an umbrella to try to hide his face. he can clearly be seen in this still image. robert hemphill owns the store, which has been at this location for more than eight years. robert says these guys knew what they were doing. they take off those bars and they remove the entire window from it's socket. then they climb into the neighbors and smash a giant hole in the wall and they get in my shop and they got to my alarm panel. the thieves made off with thousands of dollars in gold jewelry. most of it belongs to robert but a good portion of it was on consignment. it's my biggest concern is to try to get back some of the family heirlooms from my clients and friends. these people have brought things here and hoped to sell them and now they are gone. robert posted pictures of the stolen jewelry and screen grabs of the crooks and hopes someone will recognize the burglars. robert is also offering a

$5000 reward for information. but, times are tougher now with all his stuff gone. robert says this burglary couldn't have come at a worse time. his business has been slow lately because of tax season and he says he might have to close his doors for good. i'm jeff bush in san francisco, kron four news.

approaching the 430 mark. here the big stories we're following. at least ten people are dead after a charter bus crashed with a tractor trailer on interstate 5 in northern california. andrew spencer reports the bus was filled with students on a college preview trip. two large vehicles collided in orland, california, about 100 miles north of sacramento. "there was a fedex truck going southbound on i-5 just north of the 32 exit. for an unknown reason, it crossed through the center divide and collided head-on with this bus." the bus and the fed-ex truck caught fire. the flames gutted the insides of both. firefighters helped some of the victims away from the scene, many of them clearly injured. .most of them students on their way to visit humboldt state university's and attend the spring preview day.

"we have 48 people on board: 44 students, three chaperones, and one driver." the university president issued a statement, reading in part, ""humboldt state university is deeply saddened by a tragic accident that occurred. involving a charter bus filled with prospective students." "our hearts go out to those who have been affected, and we are here to support them, and their families, in any way possible." just the sight of the wreckage, of the burned and twisted metal, was a shock to many who live in the area. "i went outside, and everything was on flames"a lot of people screaming and yelling for help." "it's only like three blocks from us, from our house. yeah. sad." .some dead, others

injured.mostly students who were just looking toward the future. i'm andrew spencer, reporting. quarterback colin kaepernick has been training in miami for two weeks. the same location where he's being investigated by police for his actions with a woman. rumors have swirled about a romantic relationship between kaepernick and rapper teyana taylorwho posted several bikini pictures on thursday. kaepernick has also been iman.but the woman who has contacted police is unknown. her meeting with detectives though has been documented. the police report is just four pages.it details what this mystery woman says happened tuesday april 1st at the viceroy hotel in miami. kaepernick was there with two other nfl players. in reguards to the victim the police report states quote, "they talked for a while and she mixed drinks for all of them and gave them shots. she advised that they told her that in order to drink the shots she had to "hit" the bong which contained marijuana." unquote. a little while laterthe report says "she started to feel light headed and went to a bedroom to lie down.

she took off her jacket and jewelry. mr. kaepernick came behind her into the bedroom and started kissing her. she advised they were kissing and mr. kaepernick started to undress her. they did not have sex. an unknown amount of time later she told police the two other nfl players "peeked" inside. she said quote, "what are you doing? where is colin? get out!" the woman told officers she can't remember anything after that. the report says she "woke up in a hospital bed and doesn't remember how she got there or who transported her to the hospital. she advised that she has had a sexual relationship with mr. kaepernick in the past. one of kaepernick's teammates shared his thoughts at the teams training headquarers in santa clara. in response. the 49ers released this statement. . meanwhile. criminal cases invloving two *other 49ers. head to santa clara county superior court today. linebacker aldon smith has hearings in two separate cases, and cornerback chris culliver is set to be arraigned. smith's charges relate to an illegal assault weapon, and driving under the influence. charges which stem from incidents last year. culliver was arrested march 28th. in connection with a hit and run crash with a bicyclist. and for allegedly having brass knuckles. but in traffic. if as we head into the afternoon cooler day but still fairly mild conditions. clipper

following a horrible accident just outside golden gate park. san francisco police say a pickup truck hit the boy while he was riding his bike. the boy was crossing fulton street at 43rd. the pickup made a left turn out of the park and hit the child. police say the driver --at first-- didn't realize what he had done police took the driver in for questioning. at this point, he has not been cited or arrested. neighbors say 43rd and fulton is a very dangerous intersection with lots of speeders and drivers not paying attention. the coast guard says it is suspending the search for the 14-year-old boy who was swept out to sea at ocean beach yesterday. presumably by a riptide. a 17-year-old surfer pulled the missing boy's cousin and father out of the water on wednesday afternoon. the surfer happens to be the son of a san francisco fire captain.

the young hero returned to the scene yesterday. he says he wants to push for more warning signs that explain what to do if you find yourself caught in a rip current. the 13 year who was saved is said to be in good shape, physically. the missing boy's father had to be resuscitated. he's still in the hospital. the man who went overboard for over an hour during the clipper round yacht race last week will return to san francisco today. british sailor andrew taylor has spent 11 days at sea with a suspected broken leg. taylor went overboard on march 31st. he was rescued by his team after 90 minutes in the freezing cold water.

he was treated for hypothermia. the race is 56-hundred miles long and started in china. still ahead. president obama plans to offically announce the resignation of health and human services secretary kathleen sebelius today. word of her quitting comes just after the administration announced that more than seven - million people enrolled in obamacare.

got off at civic center. he later noticed the bugs on his legs. bart responded by taking the car out of service for de- contamination. six flags is saying goodbye to beloved elephant bertie mae. the asian elephant died at the age of 34 last week. she suffered from non- recoverable injuries in her hind leg. bertie mae had been with six flags in vallejo since 2005. asian elephants can live up to 60 years.but most do die earlier. the elephant's tissues will be shared with universities for research.

health officials say a salmonella outbreak linked to foster farms chicken isn't over. the outbreak has now infected more than 500 people. more than three-quarters of those cases are here in california. in january, the centers for disease control reported the outbreak was over. but it later reported an uptick in illnesses in february. the c-d-c says the strain has been resistent to antibiotics. according to foster farms. the infections were caused by eating chicken that was undercooked or improperly handled. foster farms says it has implemented a program to reduce salmonella. more than one hundred passengers have now gotten sick on the princess cruise ship that left san

francisco for los angeles earlier this week. but only some of them are still suffering the symptoms. 25-crew members have also gotten the bug. said to be the highly contagious norovirus. a spokeswoman says 50- people have been quarantined in their cabins. the cruise is scheduled to end in los angeles tomorrow.

his fellow defendants will be in court this morning for a conference to discuss pretrial evidence gathering and other next steps in the case. yee, former san francisco school board president keith jackson, raymond "shrimp boy" chow and 18 other defendants were indicted last week on charges including public corruption, firearms trafficking, drug conspiracy and money laundering. did >>darya:today is walk to work day in san francisco. the event is put on by walk sf. at 9:15 a.m. a group of city department heads will depart turk st. to highlight planned pedestrian safety improvements en route to city hall. other city supervisors will depart from various district locations this moring and walk to city hall. today the gilroy police department will conduct a special high visibility enforcement operation for cellphone violators. last week's late season rain failed to put a dent in california's need for water. the latest drought map from the federal government shows. the state's record

drought conditions are virtually unchanged from the week before. every part of california is experiencing some form of drought. and 23- percent of the state is in the worst category. that means wells run dry and pastures can no longer support livestock. that area runs from north of los angeles. to the southern bay area, and includes much of the central valley. a major triathalon has been moved because of the drought, there's not enough water in the uvas reservior near morgan hill.for the swimmers. so the race has been moved to half moon bay. the event on april 20th will use pillar point harbor for the swim portion of the competition. people will bike along highway one. and run on the half moon bay coastline trail.

alerted us. that a couple of 8th-graders brought *b-b guns* to their san francisco school. kron 4's justine waldman found out how the school handled this potentially dangerous situation. in a story you'll see only on 4. 2 8th grade students at kipp suspended after brining bb guns to class. i don't know why they brought them in vice principal mike retteberg tells me the school confiscated the weapons as soon as it heard they were on campus wednesday. the principal

sent out a letter to parents telling them what happened. it explains, while just toys the bb guns have the injury everyone." and that multiple students knew that bb gun at been brought to school before. sot this is a serious incident and handled seriously. the school on geary and scott street also spent time talking with students in a group setting so they all understood the gravity of the terrible decision made by the 8th graders. i think school safety is an area of concern we are really happy that in this incident everyone is safe we handled it the right way we are working with the families, kids and authorities to make sure our school is safe as it always has been the two 8th grade boys who

crews will be tearing down a bridge. for the highway 101/old redwood highway interchange project. again, southbound 101 -- closing at 10 tonight in petaluma. a salinas high school baseball coach has been busted for buying cocaine from a man on school grounds. police say ronald stevens bought the drugs from a man in the school parking lot on wednesday. the assistant baseball coach then drove off the lot. undercover officers pulled over both of the men separately and arrested them. they also searched both of their homes and found an ounce of cocaine and marijuana at stevens' home. the drugs were under the

control of stevens' son, shawn.who was also arrested. salinas police had placed undercover officers in the high school's back parking lot after complaints that illegal drugs were being done regularly. heading into the five o'clock hour we have some new video we wanted to show you. a teacher out of arkansas is on leave this morning after special needs student by the ankles. the incident happened last month at the microsociety magnet school in jonesboro. you can see the teacher grabbing the boy, who's just nine years old, by his ankles, pull him back around the corner and into the classroom. three school employees witnessed the incident. and the teacher is now charged

the chp had to say about what happened. immediately upon the impact both vehicles and burst into flames. and amazingly when you take a look at the condition of the bus there were a lot of people on that who managed to get off. there were about 35 people transported to hospitals. we can tell you that the ntsb it will be coming out to investigate this crash because at this point no one knows exactly what led that semi to cross over the median and hit head on into the charter bus full of kids who were actually from the
