9:15 am
9:15 on this sunday morning. thanks for joining us on kron4 news weekend. in my last report i showed overcast conditions, plenty of cloud cover but check out walnut creek seeing partial clearing, blue skies and a little bit of sunshine out there so temperatures still in the 50s around most of the bay area, but take a look at what happens throughout the day. future cast we're predict mainly 50s along the coastline, 60s for the rest of the bay and by 3:00 this afternoon those 70s are really going to start
9:16 am
to spill in so we'll see warmer weather along the delta in the livermore valley and for those in the south bay and then by later on tonight 10:00 temperatures dip back down into the 50s. breaking down your highs for today plenty of 70s expected in the south bay. it's going to be warmer than yesterday. los gatos 77, mountain view reaching a high of 72. look for similar conditions mostly sunny skies in the eastbay, fairfield 78, 80 in pittsburgh, temperatures mainly in the upper 60s low 70s along the eastbay shoreline. novado hitting a high of 70, 72 oakland, low 60s along the coastline and 66 degrees in san bruno. if you're heading to the giants game they're facing off against the rockies, first pitch at 1:05 expect mostly sunny skies, temperatures in mid to upper 60s, expect clear conditions, just a light breeze if you're heading to at&t park, of course it's going to feel better in the sunshine and a lot cooler in the shade. not a lot of shade as we head into tomorrow here is a look at
9:17 am
your seven day around the bay forecast. monday shaping up to be the warmest day of the week. widespread 80s back for the warmest inland areas, gusty winds but overall mild readings as we head into the rest of the work week. marty? >> okay erica, thank you so much. joining me now is political analyst michael as we learn more and more about leeland yee andre monday chow this week the big news is there could be these trials broken up into smaller trials which i guess is no big surprise. >> right. >> but also the fact there's so many shifting of attorneys here as well. >> right. shrimp boy just hired attorney sarah one of the legends of civil rights attorneys who defended the black and white panthers. every panther you can think of, true believer with james woods. i went to his press conference this week and it was very interesting. they're trying to create a tail of two shrimp boys basically the pre-jl shrimp boy and post. the reason they need to do that is because they raise an en
9:18 am
tripment defense they have to no no pre-disposition to who have committed the crime and trying to reset who shrimp boy was after he was released from jail because the government will be able to introduce all his prior statements and prior convictions as pre-disposition and they're trying to say that the guy that came out was model citizen, he was always there in the community, etc. >> that was a different person. >> but what's interesting, two things, tony sarah, the attorney said that but for the fact that the fbi got a hold of leeland yee, he didn't think his client would have been indicted. he said getting the celebrity defendant created the atmosphere to bring everyone else in. that was number one. number two is in a separate discussion i had with tony. i said well does that mean you'll want to server your trial from senator yee because you didn't want to be tarred with that same brush and he said first of all, he said well leeland i believe has an entrapment offense and he made
9:19 am
that very clear but then went on to say in deciding whether or not to server a trial, sometimes you look at the other defendants and you say to yourself are there some defendants who are really guilty essentially very guilty and if that's the case, sometimes you want to go to trial with them because you look a lot better by comparison, so he didn't specify that was, that he was talking about senator yee, but in the context of my question about whether he was going to server the two or not. >> is it surprising that the judge then told all of the defendants that the indictment is going to likely change in the next 90 days and there actually could be more charges brought? >> oh, absolutely. there's more discovery, ongoing wire taps, anyone who thinks the wire taps is not thinking correctly. the u.s. attorney will often have a much more refined indictment and usually that means more and more charges, they've already added conspiracy which is for defense attorneys the big catch all that they hate because you essentially can do everything
9:20 am
but the actual crime but the sentence is still the same as if you actually did it. so it's like 20 years for money laundering and in the case of senator yee, and the bribery statutes, even if it was just conspiracy to be bribed, that's a 20 year sentence even if they find he didn't actually take a bribe. >> the racketeering charge also very serious. >> very serious. it's a huge one. and we'll see whether or not they actually extend that one to senator yee as well. >> let's turn our attention to the latest in the saga of the bay bridge, the $6.5 billion bridge. now it's coming out that the wells may not hold in the event of a major earthquake. >> yeah, this is another disturbing pattern in this ongoing saga of the bridge that couldn't be built straight. >> [laughter] >> you have to ask yourself what were they thinking? because first, you had the question about the fast in other words, you had the question about the bad bolts and now bad wells and this goes to the fact there are these giant sections of the bridge
9:21 am
including the one section, the five lane section going up toward the island, apparently it was manufactured incorrectly and so essentially they had to adjust it and adjust the well accordingly. i like en it to the fact that if your dad is trying to teach you how to weld in the backyard with two pieces, he goes well okay i missed it here but this will hold just fine. >> they don't quite meet but it's okay. >> it wasn't a $6.4 billion bridge that would last 150 years. >> with a quarter of a million people driving over it. >> and this is something where you just have to ask yourself what is the culture of cal transit that these kinds of things did not come forward. why were they not disclosed and then ask the people of the metropolitan transportation commission who approved the design, who accepted the bridge, why weren't they on top of this all the way. why weren't they asking hard questions? why didn't they ask for ongoing progress reports about where things were so they found oh,
9:22 am
yeah the bridge alignment was a little bit off here. well we have to kind of do it this way and this will be the impact, the fast in other words, bolts, everything down the line. their accountability has been outdoerly missing in this entire debacle in the bay bridge and i'm just wondering when someone will step up and say this is what we need to do and these are the people that need to be held accountable. >> keep an eye on it because those are serious questions a lot of people will end up having the answers for it. we'll be right back. 9:27 am
shirt is what did her in. police had a difficult time trying to figure out who she was because she presented a fake id, however finger prints really lie. a name popped up, paul raynal, and it turned out she had a felony parole warrant so now instead of a bumble bee shirt she now has on jailhouse orange and now that this new video dated march 2014 has surfaced, it appears she is wearing orange for a long time. the lesson to be learned here, don't let anyone you know into your complex protect your stuff. in san francisco, stanley roberts, kron4 news. as usual, stanley was busy as he caught this spelling error in oakland. take a close look at the words on the street there, it actually reads sotp, no. stop, so just keep us in mind when you reach the intersection of arlington and mlk in oakland you better read the sign, not
