to step out, temperatures are cool to mild. we have a mixed bag. 65 in san francisco. if you are out in the east bay, you are at 60 in concord, 62 in fairfield. we are under partly cloudy conditions. not bad to start off your morning. it will get even better as we head into the afternoon. sunny and warm today, it will be quite breezy, though, look for conditions similar to yesterday. the warmest spot in the 90s. if you have plans today, it's going to be great to be out doors. mild and breezy for this evening. keep that in mind. looking at the afternoon highs, just a tad bit cooler than yesterday in some spots. 70 in san francisco. 78 for san mateo. the warmest spots will be

cheng yuan honk, george chen and weihan. george cheng called the area home and several stopped by the pay their respects. several people told kron 4 that he was a great guy. we are told he is a graduate from leeland high school down the road. the family says they are planning on traveling down to santa barbara today to get answers. david wang's mother and father are in too deep of a state of mourning to speak to the press. a friend describes the family's

response. >> i kept asking what happened, what happened? i knew because when she talked to me, she was crying. i heard about the murder in santa barbara. i would rather hear he is injured and not passed away. >> emily went onto say she can't imagine why someone would want to hurt david. she described him as quiet, be u a kind young man. we are also hearing from one of the survivors, nick pasaqut was run over. he suffered two broken legs and had to undergo surgery as a result. he says it happened so fast, but he remembered the moment the police told him others had

surgeries police in walnut creek are searching for a gunman warmed. it happened around 8:00 p.m. last night at oak grove. a man and woman were shot while sitting inside their car. both were taken to the hospital. the suspect fledth north on oak road in a light colored honda sedan. the police were on high

alert on sunday after some cell phone video was released. you can see an officer involved shooting here. the police shot and killed the 44-year-old after he broke into a woman's home with his genitiles exposed. the community has been staging protests all week in response. at least one of which has turned deadly. a 2.8 magnitude earthquake hit last night around 9:11:00 p.m. at least 30 gill roy residents reported feeling the shake. if you are looking for a way to honor the men and women

. firefighters are battling a blaze which has grown to cover more than 55,000 abers and is

. welcome back. the work of a madman, that's how the santa barbara county sheriff characterized the shooting. 22-year-old elliot rodger take it can lives of others and then committing suicide. elliot rodger was a student and

the son of director peter rodger. the suspect in the rampage wrote that his mother was sell fish for not having married into money. police are reading through a document of more than 1000 words as they look into the rampage that left more than 6 people dead and wounded nearly a dozen. the authorities believe the suspect was severely disturbed. >> it's one of those thicks that happens wrong place at the wrong time. >> reporter: two friends caught in the rampage. >> they had informed me that it would be a while before ambulances and other medical personnel would be there because they were attending to multiple gunshot victims. >> reporter: rodgers a accused

of killing others before himself. the suspect appears to have made his motives clear. in a chilling seven minute long video rodger called it a day of retribution. he e-mailed this document to his therapist and his parents. in reading it, the police say,. >> it's very apparent of the severe extent of how disturbed mr. rodger was. >> reporter: at the center is rodger's virginity which he blamed oen the women. >> he had dead eyes. he was looking around and everyone else was having fun and not to sound like i'm insensitive, but he sounded like a buzz kill.

this memorial day holiday. here's robin with the forecast. good morning. good morning, annie. maybely 50s around the area with a couple of low 50ings. livermore, you are waking up to 58 degrees. cool to mild temperatures. yes, another nice day on tap. perfect memorial day weather in store for you today. i will walk you through the day. by 7:00, we are under partly cloudy conditions. temperatures getting out of the 50s. we will mainly be in the 60s by this afternoon. sort of a rinse and repeat of what we saw yesterday. sunny and mild just a little bit cooler than sunday. we'll have 90s in the warmest spot, but lots of 70s and 80s. if you want to get in the warmer, go to a park, have a barbq, it's a great day. it's a mixed bag of temperatures. in san francisco, you are comfortable at 70.

not great beach weather today, it will be mild. 63 at haslam bay. san jose at 84. much warmer weather at the valley. 92 for ant yoke. that's where the warm temperatures will be. as far as your extended forecast, well, nice, dry, comfortable for the rest of the week. by tuesday, with e will start to see the temperatures cool off. we have a small system, a weak system heading our way. no rain for us, but that will continued to quick up those sea breeze winds that will drop our temperatures as we head into tuesday. they will bear back up slightly as we head into thursdays, but no major clangs as we -- changes as we head into the week. we will be back into the upper 70s and lower 80s by sunday.

mexico's pacific coast, but it is expected to begin weakens. the sustained winds are at 140 miles per hour. wile amanda is thought to be staying out to sea, the rains associated with the storm are likely to drench much of mexico. the hurricane season started may 15th for the pacific and the atlantic season starting june 15th. no rain for us, we are dry and very comfortable. look at the view are from the satellite and radar showing the system to the north of us with the high pressure in the forecast. that's going to keep us nice, dry, comfortable, great. perfect if you plan on having any activities going on outside, but as this system to the north of the us starts to

280, but parts will shut down for the fourth of july and labor day weekend for the crews to finish replacing the hinges. a woman was found dead in here fremont home on sunday and the police are calling it suspicious. the victim was 39 years old. there are multiple families who live in the same home including several children. there were some 20 people waiting outside the home while the police were inside investigating the woman's death. the neighbors heard the woman was strangled, but that has not been confirmed by police. the fremont police say there are no suspects until the or nor confirms there was a murder. a police officer is recovering after a woman

collided with a patrol car. the officer who has not been identified was in this car using his computer doing a traffic stop yesterday. another car traveling north drifted to the shoulder and smashed into the passenger side of the cruiser. the man pulled over by the chp cruiser jumped out to pull the officer out. >> i got out and saw the police officer stuck in the car. he woke up and said what am i doing here. i said it's okay, i have to get you out, there's gas leaking. >> chp identified the other driver as rachel. drugs and alcohol have been ruled out. he was heading home from the casino before the incident. this memorial weekend

a young chicago boy is being hailed a hero for stopping an abduction. he jumped into action to save his friend of the he was riding his back last thursday afternoon. while he was playing with his neighbor, marcie, the man pulled up to the pair. the man got out of the car and tried to abduct marcie. that's when kalen jumped to her rescue. >> we call him my little hero. yes. he was -- we were bless ed was there. >> what a good and brave boy. when marcie's mother ran outside, the man sped off.

good morning, everybody. >> we want to get right to our top story -- the deadly rampage at the ucsb campus. >> el rut rodger is the gunman who killed six people and -- elliot rodger is the gunman who killed six people and injured others all before shooting himself in the head. >> we're learning about the victims, including those from the bay area. let's go to our reporter live. >> reporter: it's a bloody trail that not only includes six people killed but 13 injured, all on the night when elliot rodger snapped. elliot rodger blamed his twisted world on the cruelness of women, according to his youtube video and the manifesto

he sent to his parents, therapist and others. he writes he was frustrated because he was short, upset over his parents' divorce and because he was not successful with women. he killed six people and injured 13 others before turning the gun on himself. a friend says his parents went on a desperate search for their son after they received an e- mail from him. but the plan was already underway. elliot rodger stabbed to death three men in his apt and drove to a sorority house and opened fire. two women dieder that. he killed another man at a del lie and then drove his car firing at people. a neighbor said he talked about his plan. >> he started saying i'm gonna kill those [bleep]. i'm gonna kill [bleep]. i am gonna kill myself. i remember him saying that. >> reporter: investigators believe he had been working on the plan for some time. police were called to his home

less than a month ago at the request of a relative who found his social media post about killing and suicide. >> he was able to put on a front as it were and convince them and obviously convince a lot of other people that he didn't have problems. >> reporter: he writes if police are searched his home, they would have found his weapons ending his plan of retribution. and all of those weapons had been legally purchased by rodger. back to you. >> police are trying to unravel the disturbing document left by rodger and the youtube video vowing to kill women. we'll follow the latest with that this morning. want to tell you more about the victims. three of them from the bay area. the three that were stabbed inside the apartment. george chin and james hahn,

we probably won't see four and two lanes this morning. let's take a look at the south bay. conditions are very light on south bay conditions as they are around the rest of the bay. green on the sensors. 11-minute drive from the coyote valley up to the mon that gu expressway -- montague expressway. we're watching hurricane amanda, a category 4. it's expected to start weakening. maximum sustained winds at 140 miles hour. metco's meteorological service says it will likely drench much of the western and central part of the nation. the atlantic hurricane season starts on -- season starts on june 1st. about 400 fighters are battling this place.

inside an apartment. 19-year-old george chen and 20- year-old james hahn both from san jose. will is live in san jose with more on the victims. >> reporter: mark, i'm in front of george chen's mother and father's home. it's right behind me. we chose to be quite far away because they've been grieving since they found out the news. a family friend says the parents plan to go to uc santa barbara today finally to see their son's body and to see first hand the massacre that went on. let me show you a picture of the two victims out of san jose, 19, 20 years old. person on the right side, that's george chen. he graduated from leland high school. he wasn't far removed from high school where reportedly when the kids come back on tuesday, they will have grief counselors there for his classmates to understand exactly what's going on. his name was on the lease with elliot rodger. and the person to the left is chen hong.

he goes by the name of james. 20 years old. he was majoring in computer engineering and was killed at the apartment. all three victims were stabbed at around 9:00 at night. after that, elliot rodger got into his car and went around santa barbara, a lot going on today. this neighborhood, obviously they know about what's going on. we were here to try to get reaction but the mother and father still inside, holed up ever since they found out about this, heartbroken. they are very respectful and are not saying anything. they or a family friend will speak later this morning. we're here and will get reaction from the third victim. back to you. >> thank you. we're also hearing from up with of the sur -- from one of the survivors. danville resident, nick was run over by the gunman as he was riding his long board down the street. he suffered two broken legs and had to undergo surgery.

nick says it all happened so fast, but he remembers the moment police told him others had also been attacked. >> basically, just had -- just on my long board. my friend was on his bike in front of me and he and i were talking. out of nowhere get swooped up by a car and thrown about 50 yards or 50 so far down the street, it is all a real blur and next thing i know i'm on the ground, can't move my legs. i actually found out when the police officer was -- had first shown up. this was before medical personnel arrived, they had informed me that it would be a while before ambulances and other medical personnel would be there because they are attending to multiple gunshot victims. hand a candlelight vigil was keld to mourn the -- held to mourn the victims.

that they are gonna be reopening it. obviously, they had much less traffic over the weekend because of the holiday. they are not expecting a huge amount of traffic today. there is a giant' game. so there may be traffic issues associated with that. but they have to get this work done. they say these hinges that they are replacing are outdated and they needed to get this work done. that's why they closed it during the holiday weekend. this isn't the last project they have. they have three more of these hinges they have to replace on the northbound side. those closures will happen later in the summer. one will happen on the 4th of july weekend. the other will happen on labor day weekend. this isn't the last one. it's a good one for them to see how quickly they can get it done. it doesn't appear there's much of a traffic impact as you said. not a lot of people on 280 either way. as that giants' game lets out, the giants' game starts at 1:00. so it would be over around 4:00, 5:00, that may be a real indication. how close they are to getting
