this morning on the kron 4 morning news.one person dead after a shooting at seattle pacific university.and officials say it could have been much worse if it had not been for the quick reactions of students on campus.we will have the latest. and a man killed by police in a sunnyvale apartment might be related to a missing person's case.we'll have the story. good morning. it is friday, june 6, 2014. i'm james fletcher. we begin this morning with the latest out of washington state. where no classes will be held at seattle pacific university, today. this, after a gunman shot three people on yesterday. killing one of them. andrew spencer reports that police believe more people could have died. if it had not been for the quick action of students. flowers laid at a christian university in seattle to pay tribute to the victims of

thursday's tragedy. >>: the university has come together as a community. we're community who relies on jesus christ restraint and we will need that at this point in time. police say 260 armed with a shotgun and a knife went into the science of building on thursday and opened fire. and i walked into the hallway and saw a classmate of mine and running frantically the gunman shot three people before students took him down. a student mauna ter who worked inside the facility observed the suspect reloading the shotgun and was able to stop the individual at that point. covers trade the person. having gotten to the gulf ground, at that point police say other students jumped chance of doing the suspect until police could arrive. assistant chief paul

mcdonough says the story is about an evil act but about the heroes who stood in the gunman's way. regular citizens stepped up and try to do the right thing in which this case i've believe that prevented a more horrible tragedy that was today. i'm andrew spencer reporting. >>: in other bay area news this morning and man killed inside his sunnyvale home by police may be connected to a missing persons case. investigators were at the, 53 year-old investigators were at the home of 53-year-old glen griggs on north fair oaks avenue thursday morning to serve two warrants. oscarone for griggs arrest. and one to search the home for evidence in the suspected murder of a missing woman named molly franquemont. police say she hasn't been seen since may 2013.

sot- "we believe that the missing person case has evolved into a homicide investigation and that this person that was at the residence was involved in that homicide." griggs was shot and killed by officers when he refused to drop the weapon he was holding. investigators have not revealed what evidence they've found in the home. and, if there's any evidence linking griggs to franquemont's disappearance. members of the community in half moon bay. are questioning the killing of this teen girl. 18-year-old yanira serrano- garcia. was shot and killed by a deputy. her family says, she was mentally ill and was refusing to take her medication. they called 9-1-1 hoping a paramedic would come out and convince her to take her prescription. as has happened in the past. but deputies arrived

instead, and authorities say, yanira was carrying a knife when they arrived. that's when they say, a deputy shot and killed her. now a lot of people are angry saying there is a lot more to the story. ".people that need help." a vigil for yanira will be held tonight at the our lady of pillar church in half moon bay. coming up.wilding.it's a crime trend that's threatening the streets of san leandro. we'll have the details. and the eastern span of the bay bridge was said to be wrought with issues.including broken bolts and cracked welds.we'll tell you about a recent investigation into these problems. and the man accused of killing three police officers in canada has been caught. we'll have that story.coming up on the kron 4 morning news.

several east bay law enforcement agencies are warning the public about a growing crime trend involving large groups of young people. rampaging through city streets. authorities call the behavior - "wilding." kron four's jeff bush explains exactly what it is. and what police are now doing to stop it from happening. wilding is a slang term for a marauding a group of teenagers vandalizing property. in conducting random crimes of opportunity and math. you can see in this year to video from the chicago the group of wilding teams stand out and attacks mother restore passing by. is inland from police say there has been two incidents 00 wilding at the blake for your mom. the person happened at the end of last month. there was a two year-

trying to break into a house--- poking the surveillance camera with a stick to try and avoid being seen. this video was captured wednesday morning at a fremont home. you can see the suspect walking up to the house. then hitting the camera with a piece of wood, trying to point it away.

police say, once he did get in the h the garage, and tripped an alarm. right now its unclear if he took anything from the house. police are still trying to identify the suspect.

you may remember the new eastern span of the bay bridge was plagued with its own set of problems.

during the construction there were a number of problems, including broken bolts and cracked welds. concerns prompted an investigation. it found there is no existing danger to drivers on the new span. cal-trans official say the bay bridge is safe. if you're planning on doing any traveling this weekend.let's take a look at how gas prices are looking. in san francisco.it will cost you 4 dollars and 24 cents for a gallon of regular unleaded gas. it's a bit cheaper in san jose at 4-11 and about the same in oakland at 4-25. the mild form condition12.

boys' copyright. a gunman accused of killing three police officers and wounded two others in canada is in custody after more than a day on the run. the royal canadian mounted police say they arrested 24-year-old justin bourque. authorities say the suspect, dressed in fatigues and armed with a rifle, went on a rampage wednesday evening in moncton, new brunswick. swat teams swarmed neighborhoods and surrounded buildings, warning everyone to stay inside, lock their doors and remain calm. police say they spotted the suspect at least three times thursday morning, but did not catch him. while a motive has not released, a facebook page purported to belong to bourque has many posts with pro-gun photos and a few anti-police memes. in-fighting among factions of the pakistan taliban may have led to the death of a notorious suicide bomb recruiter. tensions within the pakistan taliban escalated after the group's leader was killed in a u.s. drone strike in november last year, setting off a power struggle among

fire at a campus building. a 19-year-old man died. they say a student building monitor subdued the gunmanr spre tried to reload. police say the man under arrest is not a student at the school. a hospital spokeswoman says a 20-year-old woman remains in critical condition after hours of surgery. another man is hospitalized in satisfactory condition. a fourth person was treated and released. ryan chamberlain, the san francisco man suspected of having explosives, is due in court today for a hearing. yesterday, investigators returned to his apartment on jackson and polk streets.

gilroy police are looking for a man suspected of killing a woman insider her home more than two months ago. this is david galvez. he lives in tracy and is considered armed and dangerous. galvez is accused in the murder of doris knapp. she was found dead inside her home on bristlecone court in april. her husband, german baldeon, is in custody. but galvez is also a suspect in this case.

in napa county. investigators seize more than 13-thousand marijuana plants at an illegal grow campsite. it was hidden in the thick brush on a mountainside on lake county highway. along with the plants, which are worth nearly 14 million dollars. narcotics agents found a tent, food supplies, and four sleeping bags at the site. they also found a carving in a tree that referenced a city in mexico. which could mean the drugs were going to be exported across the
