a fast moving fire

threatened about 40 homes in antioch overnight. the flames moved quickly and came with in block of diablo vista elementary school. crews were able to hold the fire to about 4 acres. one area resident suffered smoke inhalation. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. and 5 suspicious grass fires in the oakland hills are cause for concern. oakland 's fire chief says the area of the fire. and around the same time leads the department to believe there were not accidental.

the fires only burned around fire acres, but they came dangerously close to homes in the area. fortunately the wind was minimal and temperatures were mild at the time. and northern nebraska has seen more severe weather on tuesday night, with a few tornadoes spotted, but no immediate reports of injuries. the latest storms follow the monster tornadoes that devastated the tiny farming

town of pilger n monday. much of the community is gone and two people, including a 5-year-old girl, are dead. the disaster, delivered by twin tornados that traveled side by side for an extended period, left some residents doubting whether the town could rebuild. san leandro police are asking car owners to be more careful about what

they leave in their vehicles. this is because in the last seven days, the city has seen 23- vehicle break-ins. police say, that is more than double the normal number. and they say, the break-ins are happening all over the

city. " really city wide. all different areas, convenient stores, places where someone might think there stuff is safe for a minute and that's the perfect place for a suspect to really prey on." police say the break-ins could be the work of one person, or a group of people. they also say, by parking your vehichle in well lit areas and taking out items of value, you could lower chances of becoming a

vicitm. and to a story we brought to you yesterday-- in fremont the city council approved the installation of surveillance cameras on public roads. fremont police asked the council for up to 300- thousand dollars to buy as

many as 12 cameras and license plate readers. police say, the cameras may help catch criminals coming and going throughout the city. they say nearly 80 percent of burglaries committed in whom the bill is named after saratoga teen audrie pott -- who committed suicide in 20-12. after she was sexually assaulted. contra costa county officials approved a loan to keep doctors medical center in san pablo from closing. the board of supervisors voted four- to- one at a meeting tuesday morning, to approve a six - million

dollar loan. the county's loan will have to be repaid over three but years and gives the hospital extra time to create a financially stable health care model. without the loan, the hospital would have had to close this summer. the marin county coroner's office says the deaths of two women found on mount tamalpais in april-- were accidents. the coroner found that the first woman, magdalena glinkowski of menlo park, died of exposure and hypothermia. and the second woman, marrie sanner of mill valley, died when she fell off the trail and hit her head. the coroner says sanner had

a blood alcohol level of point-12. an inmate who escaped from san francisco county jail earlier this month was located at a san francisco homeless shelter. timothy midgett escaped on june 7 when he was escorted to the basement of the hall of justice to take out the trash to the building's dumpster. midgett took advantage of an open door and ran away. the supervising deputy ran after him but couldn't catch up. he was found last night at the st. vincent de paul society's homeless shelter and now faces felony escape charges. following the escape, the sheriff's department is conducting a review of its policies and procedures. traffic officers in san mateo county will be on the lookout today for speeding motorists in well-known trouble spots in south san francisco and san bruno. around two dozen officers
