the murder 3-year-old carlos nava. >> reporter:the shooterlawrence denard sentenced to 137-years behind bars. the driver willie torrence received a 121 year sentence here at the alameda superior court house in oakland. >> reporter:during the sentencing judge jeffry horner painted a graphic picture of two violent parolees, who came across two rival gang members walking down east 14th street in the middle of the day back on august 8th 2011, when torrence made a u-turn slowing the car down long enough for denard to unload 10-rounds from a semi automatic weapon wounding the two men and killing the toddler who was being pushed in a stroller by him mom when the shooting occurred. both his mother and grandmother who you see here were seated in the courtroom. prior to sentencing alameda county deputy d.a. ben beltramo read a letter from the nava family >>"they spoke about the tremendous loss that they suffered with their 3 year old child, how that loss is remembered everyday, how they remember his brief life fondly, and they asked the court to impose the most maximum penalty allowed under the law so no other family will face this tragedy again at the hands
