you are taking a live look in san jose as a five-alarm fire rips through a commercial yard. we'll show you all the damage the fire caused this morning. plus, new heat records set in the bay area. we'll tell you how hot it got in san francisco and other bay area communities. here's a live look outside from our roof camera. clear skies to start off. i'll talk about how hot it is going to get today coming up. >> this is the bay area's news station. kron 4 news weekend starts now. good morning. thanks for joining us. i'm marty gonzalez. let's find out how hot it is going to get. hi, erica. >> good morning, marty. yesterday was too hot for a lot of folks. triple digits for a lot of communities. but we're not going to see that

today. a more pronounced sea breeze is going to kick in. we are starting off with mostly clear conditions. we do have some patchy fog now in parts of san francisco but that's really the extent of the marine layer. a look at current conditions. fairfield 70, 63 oakland, low 60s in downtown san francisco. so it's still going to be hot today. temperatures certainly trending above average. as we head into tomorrow expect minimal fog, and it is going to be a few degrees cooler. looking ahead we are talking about seasonal conditions through the next work week. i will have full details and bring up that seven-day in 15 minutes. marty. >> erica, thank you. it was a picture perfect and record setting friday in san francisco. the national weather service says the city hit a record of 85 degrees yesterday. a lot of people taking advantage of a beautiful day to get outside, maybe do a little shopping, check out the tourist

attractions. very hard to tell the tourists from the locals as everyone enjoyed the sunny and hot weather knew. i've never been in the city when it's been this warm. totally different for us. >> reporter: what are you doing to stay cool? >> well, we stayed inside, did a little bit of shopping, had some dinner, and now we're just hanging out. >> yesterday's 85 degrees beat the previous high of 82 set in 1973. a record of 96 also set in mountainview. screw that's nothing compared to livermore where it reached 103 degrees on friday. in the heart of downtown livermore, staying cool was key. at one park they did more than burn feet. they also melted shoes. >> see how his shoes melted? >> it's 100 degrees today. >> reporter: isn't it a little hot out here? >> yeah. >> reporter: do you like that?

>> no! >> can't blame them. this friday the crowd paled in comparison to the crowds that are expected this week with highs expected in the 90s, maybe even 100. happening now out of the south bay, firefighters taking down a massive five-alarm fire that was burning at a commercial yard in san jose near spartan stadium. south 7th street and east alma avenue. kron 4's mike pelton is on the scene. good morning, mike. >> reporter: good morning, marty. you are taking a live look at the scene. just within the past half-hour fire crews stopped pouring water on the scene so they do have it contained. you can see one of two ladder trucks that remain on scene. this fire erupted in this commercial yard along south 7th street. take a look as the fire ripped through this area early this

morning. fire officials won't know the entire scope of the damage until they have an opportunity to go back and look through the area, but they tell me several buildings burned, including a storage building and possibly part of a bus shelter where some buses were stored overnight. that all acted as fuel for the flames when the flames broke out around 3:30. fire crews called for help from six different cities. officials say the flames reached 40 to 50 feet in the air. while the fire is now knocked down, crews have a lot of work left today. >> putting large quantities of water on it. just because of the large amounts of storage and pallets, things like that, it is going to take a long time to get that completely exing sting wished. we're anticipating crews on scene for the next 12 to 24 hours. >> reporter: and we're told that one worker here in the yard did sustain serious burn injuries and was transported to

the hospital. several employees that work in the yard are now on the scene. they are very upset to see what's happened. fire officials at this point don't know the cause of the fire. an investigator is here this morning but fire officials tell me could it take days if not weeks to sift through exactly what sparked the fire this morning. back to you. >> that is mike pelton reporting live from san jose. on to other news. also happening today the gilroy garlic festival continues this weekend. this summer, the summer food fair features live entertainment, contests, and of course all that great garlicky food. the annual family friendly festival kicked off friday. it lasts until sunday. you can still get tickets on- line at gilroygarlicfestly value.com. gates open at 10:00 a.m. big crowds expected. pamplona, spain and pleasanton, california have oning thing in common. both are holding a running of the bulls. if you want to take part you

can sign up to dodge 1 of the 1500-pound bulls around a quarter-mile course. it costs $75. animal rights activists plan to be there to protest. they filed a lawsuit to try and stop it. it all starts today barring that lawsuit at 11:30 this morning. still ahead on kron 4 news weekend a wildfire burning near sacramento has scorched 1300 acres. we'll have the latest video coming into our newsroom. and not all custom license plate requests are granted bey the dmv. we will show you some of the rejects. but first, new charges have been filed in the federal corruption case against suspended state senator leland yee. why the senator is now facing racketeering charges.

new charges filed in the federal corruption case against suspended state senator leland yee. the san francisco lawmaker is now facing racketeering charges. a federal grand jury added that

indictment friday accusing him of taking bribes for votes, including one on medical marijuana. in march yee was indicted on arms dealing charges. state senator yee was just one of 29 people indicted in that sweeping investigation. the two sacramento women accused of knocking another woman down outside a nightclub were sentenced. court officials say the plea was no contest to misdemeanor assault. the pair's attorney says the fight started because the victim thought someone was videotaping her vomiting on the sidewalk. coming up, the latest on a fire that's burning in the sierra foothills. we'll have the hot weather forecast as well. erica will have that, as we

we're back on kron 4 news weekend. record setting heat yesterday. erica what are we looking for today? >> i don't think we are going to break any records today but we're talking about temperatures 10 and 2 degrees warmer than where we should be this time of year. livermore in the mid to upper 60s, 63 leaving the house p in oakland now. we do have a building ridge of high pressure verying strong right now, and that is allowing for temperatures to heat up. but we are adding the component of a westerly breeze. that ocean air is going to really limit our temperatures along the coast and bay but it is still going to be pretty toasty inland. campbell still hitting 91, 90 in santa clara. now, if you like the hot weather we'll continue to see

that through the san ramon valley. triple digits in fairfield today. it looks like downtown san francisco not as hot as yesterday. yesterday we hit a high of 85, breaking the old record. i think today we will see a high of 73 if you are headed up to the wine country. warm weather will continue into early next week. we are going to fall into that pattern offing morning fog, afternoon sunshine. temperatures near normal as we head into thursday and friday, so that means temperatures in the upper 80s inland, mid-70s bayside. marty. >> thank you, erica. a fast moving wildfire near sacramento has burned two structures and prompted the evacuation of some homes. officials say the sand fire broke out friday afternoon in a river bed near the town of plymouth. that fire has charred about 1300 acres of brush and woodland. >> reporter: how frightened are you? >> oh, let's put it on a scale

of 1 to 00. i'm -- 1 to 100. i'm scared. >> reporter: are you at that 100? >> right now, yes. >> the fire is 20% contained. mean type in washington state a fire has burned 300 homes. 38 people have died. the blaze has burned 400 square miles northeast of seattle. officials say the fire this morning is about 52% contained. california taxpayers are shelling out hundreds of thousands of dollars a year for personalized license plates. the dmv decides which requests are accepted or rejected. some are too explicit to show on television. the responses by dmv workers may be raising eyebrows as well. >> reporter: a san diego unified school bus driver had

"not c" on his license plate. the plate was under a swastika. it slipped by the dmv. it should have been one of those reject. the dmv gets more than 91,000 personalized plate orders each year. >> we review each one of those requests. >> reporter: requests like fat 8. dmv says fat is offensive. or, ganja, money sign r. dmv said it is a term for pot. three employees to have read

these requests. five employees will be assigned to the job depending on the work load. taxpayers fund their combined $200,000 salary. they write their own response for each request. some have a sense of humor. this perp requested "i hate dmv. driver gave no reason. worker wrote, i think it's funny, but i hate dmv is unacceptable. rejected. the request said, i have testicular cancer and had one removed. dmv wrote, it's slang for inter course, denied. shrink up. the driver said he's a psychotherapist, spelled thatting wrongs and that shrink

up means get yourself a shrink. the dmv wrote, can't decide if bad, but denied. there are hundreds we could not show on tv. turning to news in gaza, a brief respite in fighting has led to the discovery of dozens of bodies. both sides agreed to a 12-hour cease fire, this as u.s. secretary of state john kerry leads an international effort to get israeli and hamas to top the air strikes. mostly civilians have died in the fighting. the dutch and malaysian prime ministers will be meeting next week in the netherlands to discuss that downed airliner. on wednesday the two will be

discussing securing full access to the site. the prime minister will be offering pathologists to help identify the remains. the flight was shot down this month killing 291 people on board. 43 were malaysian. 194 were dutch citizens. the russian consumer protection agency is suing mcdonald's for selling fatty foods. they say the company sells food that contains more fat and carbohydrates than allowed by national regulations. the suit wants to ban foods such as cheese burgers and milk shakes that don't meet russian regulation. a watchdog group says the suit comes after restaurant inspections. it's unclear what other penalties the company might be facing. the dodgers are in town, and first place is at stake. highlights up next. and we're taking a live look outside. plenty of sunshine as we see the approach to the bay bridge. we'll be right back.

in bay area sports it was a battle of bitter rivals at at&t park last night. the dodgers in town for a three- game series. l.a. loved that number three last night, going triples crazy. yasiel puig tieing a franchise record with three triples last night. he also added a double and two rbis. this helped the dodgers match a club record of five triples in one game including three in that 5th inning. the most for the dodgers since 1921. the giants lose big. the giants now after half-game lead in the n.l. west. tonight the first pitch is at 6:05. the oakland a's are in arlington, texas. 100-degree temperatures in arlington last night. for trainingers, it was jerome

williams making his debut. the a's managed one run on this rbi single by cespedes. the a's remain in first place with the best record in baseball. texas has won just 6 of its last 33 games. turning to football now the oakland raiders are taking the field in sweltering napa yesterday for the team's first workout of summer camp. half of the squad made up of entirely new players. it was 5th overall draft pick mack seeing some action for the silver and black. the new starting quarterback will be matt schaub. justin tuck is just one of a number of veterans brought in to bolster the squad. >> right now, everybody is flying around, looking like all- stars. it looks like everybody did

it is 7:29. time to check out the hot forecast. >> it is going to be another hot day. starting off with a live look at the golden gate bridge, nothing but sunshine as you work your way into san francisco. generally the indication is if it is sunny here in san francisco, you can expect sun throughout the entire bay area. we have a strong ridge of high pressure. what that means is we will see another day with temperatures much warmer than average. the sea breeze will help limit temperatures along the coast sought won't be as warm as yesterday but take a look at your day planner. today upper 90s inland, low 70s for the coast. not much change in the weather as we head into early next week. marty. >> all right, erica, thank you. back to the news. in the south bay a new effort to battle the drought by getting residents to put less

water on their lawns. it's all part of the push pr campaign called brown is the new green. this lawn is being watered once a week, and that represents a water savings of about 60%. there are a few brown spots wn the owner, a professional landscaper, says the grass is fairly drought tolerant and will easily bounce back when winter rains return. >> i went from three days, to two day, and now one day. that's going to be a 60% water savings. as you can see, it's not perfect. it's not a screaming green lawn. it's off-color, but that's fine, we're in a drought, and we have to manage well. >> outdoor watering accounts for as much as 59% of a typical homeowner's water consumption. he suggests watering once or twice a week for just five minutes, and to do that twice each time with a half-hour break each time to reduce runoff and evaporation.

police are looking for two suspects in a hit-and-run crash that happened early friday morning. investigators believe one of the suspects may be armed. >> reporter: the crash happened just west of this substation on the westbound side of the bridge. the chp says a woman driving a 1986 porsche was rear-ended by a 1988 toyota camry just after 5:00 in the morning. investigators say the toyota didn't pull over. instead, the driver continued down state route 92, to the end of the bridge. >> at that point the driver fled on foot, and may have been carrying a handgun. >> reporter: officers searched the area for four men seen leaving the car but none were caught. the chp has since learned that the toyota camry was reported stolen thursday night in

redwood city. the victim is a 55-year-old who lives in heyward. >> the victim sustained minor injuries, but she was transported to the hospital. >> reporter: the officer says investigators will review surveillance video that may have captured the crash. in the meantime if you were in the area and saw what happened, call the chp. on the san mateo bridge, kron 4 news. and in other bay area news, another public transit strike could be just around the corner. the golden gate bridge labor coalition unions are voting this week whether or not to authorize a strike. a union representative is now saying, "a trike is very likely." the 450 union members in the coalition include golden gate ferry and golden gate transit bus works. authorities in the east bay

have accused a livermore soccer coach of sexually abusing a charge. jesse schlicker is accused of committing a lewd act on a child. sha lick ser a soccer coach. parents what have children who attend soccer camps at the facility were shocked by the news. >> i have always felt very safe at cabernet. it's just an unfortunate incident that this has happened. maybe they will need to take steps in the future to look into the people who are heading up these camps more. >> cabernet sports has suspended schlicker and says that it is cooperating fully. police say that schlicker previously worked for world cup sockers clinics based in los gatos. a local candy company gave a special gift to a brother and sister who were robbed outside

of a san francisco convenience store. the two kids are being called sapphire and jaden to protect their identity. the candy company gave the kids $1,000 worth of candy to sell. meantime the woman accused of robbing them is in jail. for the first time in california you can find out how much public schoolteachers, administrators, and other employees in your area are being paid. yesterday the california policy center released the salary data for kindergarten through 12th grade schools. the information was collected under the public records act. it found the california teachers on average earn about $85,000 a year in pay and benefits. but the authors say the report shows exorbitant pay and widespread practice of employees being paid and collecting a pension at the

same time. only 62% of school districts provided data for the report. it lists compensation for more than 580,000 employees by name. if you would like to see what's happening in your own school district we have put a link to that report on our website at kron4.com. more insects and animals are testing positive for west nile virus. the mosquito control district said friday four groups of mosquitoes, five dead birds and two chickens tested positive for the virus recently. the mosquitoes were found in discovery bay. dead birds were found around concord and danville. some infected chickens were found in oakley. more than 70 neglected animals were rescued from a house in monterey county earlier this week. the spca rescued 63 cats and kittens. authorities say the animals were suffering from infection,

officials say at 1:50 this morning a patrol car was on the freeway when a man tried to run across the highway. investigators say the officer swerved but did hit the man. the pedestrian was taken to the hospital with major injuries. a large state-run mental health facility in the north bay has lost a significant source of federal funding. the state department of health stripped medicare funding for the center. the action is because of safety deficiencies and allegations of elder abuse. another agency will review the findings. the center has hundreds of patients and is one of the largest employers in the sonoma valley. police have issued an arrest warrant for a man that tested positive for tuberculosis. police say the man's name is eduardo cruz. officials say he stopped taking

the prescribed treatment two months ago, and now the county is worried that he could pose a health hazard. >> his disease may grow again, and he may become contagious. right now we don't know if he is or is not contagious because we haven't been able to find him. >> authorities say they hope to find cruz and put him in isolation. this, they say, will ensure that he gets the proper treatment before he infects others. cruz could be facing up to one year in prison for failing to comply with health officers. coming up on kron 4 news weekend we will have an update of our top stories. let's go ahead and take a live look outside. this time around you can see the marine layer moving in. we will have the forecast coming up.

san jose near spartan stadium. one worker has been hurt and sent to the hospital. it has damaged at least one warehouse. no word yet on the cause. record temperatures set p in san francisco where the mercury rose to 85 degrees yesterday. that beat the previous record of 82. we also saw triple-digit heat in some cities like livermore. and the gilroy garlic festival under blazing sun will continue this weekend. it features life entertainment and, of course, that great garlic food. the festival kicked off yesterday. it will run until tomorrow. gates today open at 10:00 a.m. talking about gill roy, likely to be one of the warm spots. >> guess how warm it was yesterday in gilroy. >> 98. >> 105. >> i wasn't even close. >> i'm sure the line was really long for that garlic ice cream. definitely toasty. temperatures will drop bey about 10 degrees today.

so we are taking a live look outside from our roof camera. you can see blue skies in the background. we are starting off with very mild conditions. temperatures for the most part in the 60s. as we head into lunchtime, we will start to heat things up. a lot of sunshine. by 12:00 expect 70s along the coast. it looks like 90s for places like livermore and morgan hill. as we put the clock into motion temperatures will continue to warm approaching 3:00 this afternoon. it is going to be a fairly warming evening with temperatures mainly in the 70s. as we break down the afternoon highs expected in your neighborhood, you won't really notice the triple digits today but it is still going to be a scorcher with 88 in san jose, 86 in redwood city. a lot of sunshine to go around. it looks like air quality is going to improve today with vallejo at 87, 100 in fairfield, antioch 97 degrees. yesterday san francisco broke a record.

nowhere near it today at 73. 85 up in the wine country. we do have a giants game to talk about. they face the dodgers at 6:05 tonight. look for temperatures in the upper 60s. your seven-day forecast highlights similar conditions as we head into early next week. anticipate that pattern of morning fog, afternoon sunshine. temperatures near seasonal thursday and friday. back to the news, firefighters in lafayette are battling a structure fire that destroyed one home and threatened another. fire officials say the blaze started in the garage of a home about 6:00 last night. it gutted the house and spread to a nearby play structure and grasslands. firefighter say actually the weather helped keep the blaze under control. >> we got lucky on this. if we had any wind whatsoever, we would have had a much different outcome, we think. >> crews had the blaze under control by about 7:00 last

night. investigators say it caused about $700,000 worth of damage but nobody was hurt and no other homes were evacuated. >> reporter: here's stanley roberts with "people behaving badly." >> reporter: there's more to this skate park than kids hopping the fence. >> i was attacked here right in front of my house bey oup of skateboarders that were drunk and stoned and didn't like the fact that i didn't want them here at 1 8:30 at night. >> reporter: weapons they used? >> they actually attacked me with a skateboard. i got hit in the head and ended up with stitches and bruises. actually had to go on job interviews last week in a suit with all that stuff going on. >> reporter: in fact, this is video from the hospital where a doctor stitched up a cut over his left eye. now he still has bruising from the attack. >> there were sixing young

adults on my front steps at 11:30 at night, making noise, rolling up joints, drinking beer. i asked them to leave nicely, they didn't leave. i came back and asked them not so nice toll leave. they then started to leave but one of them didn't like it. >> reporter: so he started yelling. >> call 911! police showed up seven to nine minutes later. >> reporter: while i was there, this skateboarder in the red jacket threatened to take my camera, albeit he was on the other side of the fence. some skateboarders say i'm only here to make the park look bad. i retort, no, i'm just

recording, you're doing that on your own. >> four people messed up, and then everyone gets in trouble. >> reporter: of the six people involved in the attack, three were arrested and charged with assault with a deadly we haven't i'm sure there will be more on this park coming up. in san francisco, stanley roberts, kron 4 news. target stores lost data on some 110 million customers when its computers were hacked. the company offered free identity theft protection from credit bureau experian, but experian also had trouble, acknowledging it had a data leak and unknowinglily sold personal data of mlings of americans to someone in vietnam. authorities say that that person then sold the personal information to identity thieves around the world. it wasn't until u.s. secret

service agents alerted experian that the company stopped. target and experian insist that the two incidents are unrelated. in addition to target stores, here's a list of other stores believed to be hit by data breaches within the past year. this week we learned stubhub accounts were broken into. earlier this year a report that high-end retailer neiman marcus was hacked with 1 million customers affected. you might remember there was also a breach at michaels and an investigation into a data hacking incident at sally's beauty supply. just this week goodwill stores said its computer systems may have been hacked. so with all this hacking what is a shopper to do? experts say don't rely on a company to protect yourself. do it yourself. >> just assume that if you have shopped at one of these stores that something has happened, and just take pains to check out your statements and make sure that nothing is wrong. that's what you are going to have to do. >> more tips that you should

>> that's rebecca. the woman in the video just returned home after beg away for two years. to dogs that may seem like forever. the dog is so happy, it's wimperring and stumbling around. the family took the dog to the vet to be sure it was okay. take a look at this rabbit. it might be a bit heavy on the scales, but it might just be more to love. a colorado man found the animal under a truck. at first it was so big he thought it was a dog, but he took it home, and he has been feeding it veggies as he continues to search for the owner. and inventers in nebraska created a game that has a prize different than a stuffed animal. it's beer. players put in money and try to

clouds along the san mateo county coastline but that's really the extent of it. right now temperatures mainly in the 60s. by lunchtime anticipate quick warming. upper 70s inside the bay, and it looks like low 90s for the warmest inland pots. today won't be as hot as yesterday but we're still above average. i will have the full details coming up in 15 minutes. marty. >> thank you, erica. a picture perfect and record setting friday in san francisco. the national weather service says the city set a record of 85 degrees yesterday. some people are taking advantage to do some shopping, check out the tourist attractions. in many cases it was difficult to tell the tourists from the locals as everybody enjoyed the sunny and hot friday. >> nothing says summer like a little bit of heat but i have never been in the city when it's been this warm.

totally different for us. >> reporter: what are you doing to stay cool? >> well, we stayed inside, did a little bit of shopping, had some dinner, and now we're just hanging out. >> yesterday's 85 beat the previous high of 82. that was set in 1973. a record of 96 degrees also set in mountainview on friday. nothing compared, however to livermore where it reached 103 degrees friday. in the heart of downtown livermore, staying cool was the key. in the stone beaches of the regional park, they actually melted shoes. >> i've got to tell you something. it's 100 degrees today. >> reporter: isn't it a little hot out here? >> yeah. >> reporter: do you like that? >> no! >> this friday the crowds paled

in comparison to what is expected today. a massive five-alarm blaze burned near spartan stadium on south 7th street and east alma avenue. one person was severely injured and in the hospital this morning. kron 4's mike pelton has been at the scene all morning. he now has the latest. gooding morning, mike. >> reporter: well, marty, you are taking a live look at the scene. i just spoke to the property manager. she tells me three businesses burned, two of which are storage facilities. you are taking a live look at one of those. you can see some smoke still coming from the debris. the third business is a pallet yard just behind some of those fire trucks. the owner of that business tells me of the 100,000 wood pallets he has here, all but 100 of them burned in this fire that erupted this morning. take a look at the flames shot 40 to 50 feet in the air after

the blaze broke out around 3:30 this morning and went to a five alarm fair that burned several buildings. it took a couple of hours for crews to knock down the blaze. san jose fire called crews from six other agencies for help. >> i believe on the north side of the fire we had a large bus storage area of maybe 50, 60 buses with fire impinging on those. so we had a lot of concerns with the fire spreading, thus the need for the crews. >> reporter: and fire crews doused the fire with water all morning long using ladder trucks. one worker who was on the property overnight sustained serious burn injuries and was transported to the hospital but the property manager tells me no one should have been on the property overnight. fire officials say the blaze started on the east side of the yard. that would be to the right portion of the screen. the cause of the fire remains under investigation this

morning, and marty, aussie smoke still coming from the scene, fire crews, of course, are still concerned about hot spots. they tell me they could remain here into tomorrow morning. marty. >> that is mike pelton reporting live from san jose. in other news this morning, a pedestrian is recovering from major injuries after a chp officer reportedly hit him this morning on highway 101. authorities say the crash happened about 2:00 this morning in san jose. officials say the pedestrian was running across the freeway from the right shoulder. he then reportedly ran into the side of the patrol car. authorities say the spar then swerved to try and avoid the pedestrian, hit a beam, then came to a stop on the right shoulder of the highway. 101 southbound is closed near mckey road for further investigation. all lanes on interstate 680 in the south bay opened after a fatal accident last night. this was in san jose about 11:00 near capital expressway

air into the bay area, and that will helping bring temperatures down. but yesterday there was a big concern for fire danger. very calm winds and high temperatures means low humidity. so looks like the chance for fire danger will start to back off as we head into early next week. livermore right now is 70. san francisco starting the morning off at 64 degrees. we are going to warm things up quickly. take a look at futurecast 4. as we head into lunch times, looks like the inland areas will see 90 degrees readings. temperatures will continue to climb, approaching 3:00 this afternoon, but for the most part we stay out of the triple digits. warm conditions later on tonight. by 8:00 it looks like most locations still holding on to 70s. so as we break down the afternoon highs expected in your neighborhood you will notice quite the difference. we're not seeing all those

think we're having a tornado. >> it was just blowing sideways. you could see the limbs coming off the trees. >> it was scary. i'm not gonna life. i try to act like a tough guy, but that was scary. in world news, we're getting word from south korea that north korea that test- fired a missile. an official says it flew 300 miles before it touched down in the pacific ocean. the launch is the latest of several missile and rocket tests north korea has been conduct over the past several weeks. in gaza a brief respite from fight hag led to the discovery of dozens of bodies. more than 40 victims were found in areas that were too dangerous to enter in recent days due to the fighting between hamas and israel. both sides agreed to a 12-hour humanitarian cease fire this morning, this as u.s. secretary of state john kerry leads an international effort to get israel and hamas to stop the air strikes and rocket fire for

at least seven days. more than 900 people, mostly civilians, have died in the fighting. the u.s. has evacuated its embassy in the libyan capital of tripoli. this comes amid intense militia fighting in the area. this is just one day after turkey closed its office in the same section of the city. the dutch and malaysian prime ministers will be meeting next week in the netherlands to discuss that downed airliner. on wednesday the two will be talking about securing full access to the crash site. the malaysian prime minister will also offer pathologists to help identify remains of the crash victims. flight 17 was shot down earlier this month killing 298 people on board. 43 of those were malaysian.

morning cloud cover, sunshine into the afternoon. i'll have that seven-day forecast at 8:45. marty. >> thank you. there's a new effort to battle the drought by getting residents to put less water on their lawn. it's all part of a campaign called brown is the new green. this lawn is just being watered once a week, and that represents a water savings of about 60%. there are a few brown spots here and there on the lawn, but the owner, who is a professional landscaper, says the grass will easily bounce back when winter rains return. >> i went from three days, to two days, and now one day. that's going to be a 60% water savings. as you can see, it's not perfect. it's not a screaming green lawn. it's off color, browning out, but that's just fine. we're in a serious drought. >> outdoor watering accounts for as much as 59% of a typical

homeowner's water consumption. he suggests that watering your lawn once or twice a week for five minutes is what you should do. investigators believe is suspect after this crash might be armed. >> reporter: the chp says a woman driving a 1986 porsche was rear-ended by a 1988 toyota camry just after 5:00 in the morning. investigators say the toyota didn't pull over. instead, the driver continued down state route 92, to the end of the bridge. >> at that point, the suspects fled the vehicle on foot. it was reported that one of them may have been carrying a handgun. >> reporter: the chp says the toyota was later found abandoned off the freeway in

foster city. officers searched the area for four men seen leaving the car but none were caught. the chp has since learned that the toyota camry was reported stolen thursday night in redwood city. the victim is a 55-year-old woman who lives in heyward. >> the victim sustained minor injuries. she complained of pain, so she was transported to the hospital in castro valley. >> reporter: the officer says investigators will review surveillance video that may have captured the crash for more information on the suspects. in the meantime, if you were in the area and saw what happened, call the chp. in more bay area news, another public transit strike could be around the corner. the labor coalition's 13 unions are voting this week and next week whether or not to authorize a strike. they have been working without a contract since the 1st of july. a union representative is now

saying that a strike is, quote, very likely. the 400 union members in the coalition include golden gate ferry and golden gate transit bus workers. authorities in the east bay have accused a livermore soccer coach of sexually abusing a child. his name is jesse schlicker. police say the incident happened earlier this week at the cabernet indoor sports in livermore. that's where schlicker is a soccer coach. parents whose kids attend that camp were shocked by the news. >> i have always felt very safe at cabernet. it is just an unfortunate incident that this has happened. maybe they will need to take steps in the future to look into the people who are heading up these camps more. >> cabernet sports has suspended schlicker and says it is cooperating fully. police say that schlicker

previously worked for world cup soccer camps based in los gatos. he is scheduled to return to court next month. a local candy company gave a special gift to the brother and sister who were robbed outside of a san francisco convenience store last week. the two kids were being called sapphire and jaden in order to protect their identities. they were robbed while selling candy. on friday the candy shop gave the children $1,000 worth of candy to sell. the woman who is accused of robbing them is in jail facing charges of robbery and child endangerment. for the first time in california you can find out how much public schoolteachers, administrators and other employees in your area are being paid. on friday the california policy center released the salary data for kindergarten through 12th grade schools. the information was collected under the public records act and found that california

weekend. more than 70 neglected animals were rescued from a home in monterey county earlier this week. the spca rescued seven dogs and 63 cats and kittens. officials say that the house posed a serious health hazard because of all the animal waste there. 26 animals, in fact, were so sick they had to be euthanized. what started as a property check is now an animal hoarding investigation at a north las vegas property. 112 cats and one dog were rescued from conditions that inspectors are calling horrific. investigators say there was not any air conditioning or rung water in this home. several animal control officers had to be treated for heat related injuries, and the fumes, they say, were unbearable. the cats are now in recovery at a facility, but officials say space is limited. >> a big hoarding case like

camera. we're seeing clear conditions and we have patchy fog along the coastline. we'll see temperatures trending above average. take a look at where we are right now. napa 73, 74 in antiyak. mid-70s half moon ba69 degrees. expect minimal fog tomorrow and cooler conditions. all in all we're looking at temperatures above average as we head into early next week. we'll be highlighting those changes in the forecast coming up at 9:15. >> thank you erica. happening right now, they're mopping up a five alarm blaze that was burning at a commercial building in san jose. one person is in the hospital severely injured. mike pelton has the laysist from san jose. >> reporter: new information

this hour. investigators are no longer concerned about hot spots. they tell us it's fully con and. they're in the investigation stages of this process. there's a lot of metal and debris as you can see on the screen. firefighters are in the process of bringing in construction equipment, backhoes to rip apart some of these buildings and begin the mop up process. it took several hours for crews to get under control. at its peak, it shot 30 to 50 feet in the air. san jose fire crews had to call for help from six other firefighters as it spread to other buildings and it went to five alarms. two storage facilities are among those destroyed in addition to a pal it yard. he showed up and found his business destroyed. >> yes, the first fire, you know, it's sad, you know, i

work so hard and for this to happen, you know, and it happened, accidents happen. >> hot spots with water, they're no longer a concern. hot spots have been put out this morning. one man that works on the property, one of the businesses sustained serious injuries on the property overnight. the property manager, no one was supposed to be here overnight. they're trying to sort that out. the cause of the fire remains under investigation, they began somewhere on the eastern side of the yard. that would be on the right side of your screen. they're having a tough time to find out how long this is going to get dealt with. >> that's latest in the five alarm fire in san jose. a pictor it perfect and

record -- picture perfect record setting yesterday. some people took advantage of the nice day to shop and see the tourist attractions and it was difficult to tell the tourists from the locals as everyone was out enjoying the sunny and hot day. yesterday's 85 degrees beat the previous high of 82 in 1973. nothing compared to livermore where the temperature reached 103 degrees friday. in the heart of down town livermore staying cool was the key and the stone beach at the regional park, it did more than burn feet, it melted shoes. this crowd pales in comparison to the crowds this weekend. highs are expected to reach in the 90s, maybe even 100 degrees. a pedestrians is recovering this morning from major injuries after a chp officer reportedly hit him early this

morning on highway 101 with his patrol car. authorities say the crash happened about 2:00 frommal and rock avenue in san jose. the pedestrians was running across the shoulder and then reportedly ran into the side of the patrol car. the officer swerved to try to avoid the pedestrians and then hit a beam or a berm and stopped on the right shoulder of the highway. us southbound is closed for a key road in the investigation, officials hope to have it open by this time by 9:00 a.m. this morning. all lanes on i680 are reopened after a fatal accident, it happened at san jose at 8:00 near the capitol expressway, they're not clear how this happened, but we're told the medical examiner was called to the scene. all lanes were reopened about 1:00 this morning. and jan going.

francisco, oakland, 70s out in the livermore valley and those of you waking up along the delta, futurecast shows 80s inside the bay and 90s in the warmest inland spots. it's approaching this afternoon. i don't think we'll see much in the way of triple digits. as we head into 8:00 this evening locations are in the 70s. the highs are expected in your neighborhood today. mountain view today lots of 9 #s thought the south day. for the most part staying out of the triple digits. temperatures are as much as 10 degrees cooler. it's 90 in concord, 83 degrees in san leandro. they broke an old record at 85 degrees. we'll see a high of 7 #. as you look at the forecast, not much change in the weather as we head into early next morning.

federal corruption case. he's facing racketeering charges. a federal grand jury added the indictment friday accusing yee for taking bribes, including one on medical marijuana. in march yee was indicted on corruption and arms dealing charges. he was one of 29 people who was in a sweeping investigation. two men were accused of knocking a woman unconscious. anthony pleading guilty to felony assault. he was sentenced to three years probation and one year in jail. another one ploated no contest to misdemeanor assault charges. the fight started because he thought they were very

videotaping her daughter vomiting on the sidewalk. a crime happened at a livermore sports facility where he worked. they discovered more information about the case and the suspect. >> reporter: tuesday police arrested this man, 26-year-old jessie slicker of livermore. the da charged him with committing lewd act on a child under the age of 14. this happened here at cabernet indoor sports of livermore. he's a speed and strength coach in the soccer program. the incident occurred during the lunch hour. in a statement posted on its website, cabernet sports says it's cooperating fully with the livermore police investigation. the coach has been suspended pending the outcome of the situation. prior to his work with cabernet sports, the accused was thoroughly and professionally vetted by us and prior

. we're back on kron 4 news weekend. this fire has burned at least two structures. the sand fire broke out near a river bed near the sierra town of plymouth. it has charred 1300 acres of brush and woodland. >> let's put it on a scale of one to 100. i'm scared. >> are you at that 100? >> right now, yes. >> the fire is 20% contained. moving north to washington state. a massive wildfire there has burned 300 homes and that's double the number previously estimated. the fire was started by lightning. 38 people have died.
