this morning on the morning news. it has been a week since the earthquake. many buildings are damaged. businesses were able to pull through this weekend. and a suspension for the 49ers. another is arrested and facing felony charges. this is for the upcoming season. we're waking up to clear skies this monday labor day. temperatures are warming up. how warm the beaches are getting -- are getting coming up. good labor day to you. we're watching the, well the roads out there. there is no commute with it being a holiday.

many people may have plans to head to the beach. >> it will be a nice day today. we are waking up to clear skies. that's what you can see and in fact the bay area for the most part is waking up to fair skies out there. 67 in antioch a few cooler spots. 50s and here is a look at your temperature for today. and our valley locations will be well into the 90s even a few mid-90s. check out the coast. we'll see a lot of 70s. if you have the day off. take them out there. highs for today, 74 in downtown san francisco. that is going to be warm.

weekend. enjoy the heat. here is a look at traffic it is a holiday. it is more like a sunday or saturday. here is a live look at the toll plaza. traffic is light. they have to go into work. may see a light commute and i don't expect a major delay. we have one accident to talk about. this is out i want to talk about the northbound 280 closure which remains in effect from 101 until 5:00 tomorrow morning but again because it is supposed to be a traffic light day today. and now let's talk about an accident over in the east bay. this is westbound 24. and where we have a report of a disabled vehicle and obstruction on the road where the right area is affected. 80 westbound as well as some traffic concerns in the south bay when i come back later.

james. >> thank you. and 4:04 the earthquake in the north bay. it has been eight days since the 6.0 rattled napa and sunday morning. we had another after shock. it registered 3.2 in magnitude. it hit in all there have been more than 70 after shocks since the large earthquake. that way the way the strongest in the bay area since the last 25 years. no one was killed but more than 200 people were streeted for injuries t caused a billion in damages. 300million alone in the city of napa. the holiday is one of the biggest weekends for business around napa. and we spoke with business owners there who were struggling throughout the week and they have reopened. >> it feels great. pizza have been ordered and by

>> the red cross will open a center today at a hotel in napa. they will help them recuperate. that will debut at the napa valley hotel at 3425 solano. they will0 operate from 10 to 7 in the evening. and san francisco police are investigating a shooting that christy injured a person on sunday afternoon. now this was near the university of san francisco in the area of golden gate and broad street. the shooting victim who is not identified was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. officials say the suspected shooter in the incident fled the scene in a vehicle and at large. >> in the east way searching for the driver of a fatal hit and run. it happened before 7:00 on sunday night near willow pass. officials say that a silver chevy truck drove off the road and on to the sidewalk hitting a light pole and woman. she was pronounced dead at the scene.

the latest for the 49ers as ray mcdonald the latest to be placed under arrest. this time the charge is felony domestic violence. the 29 year old was taken into custody at his home in san jose. and we have the latest now on the investigation and what this could mean for the 49ers up coming season. at 2:45 a.m. he was arrested here in his home. balloons point to a celebration. he turn 30 on tuesday. he was booked into the jail and later released on $25,000 bail. the charge is felony domestic violence. they are not saying who he assaulted. they are aware of the reports. we gather the facts we will reserve further comment. now they are wait awaiting further comment from the

commissioner. he raised the penalty for all nfl players and staff involved in domestic violence. the first carries a six-game suspension. the second bears a lifetime ban. this is only days after he said that he made a mistake with the baltimore ravens running back who was given two game suspension after rice appeared to be caught on video assaulting his wife. the niners are reeling from another of the decisions made this week when the commissioner announced a nine-game suspension for the star linebacker. like smith the problems at least in part stem from the use of alcohol. and the previous run in with the law was in 2010 booked for driving under the influence. >>

north bay. chp not with any incidents and there are no construction delays for your drive around the bay either. interstate 280 is shut down in san francisco. the 280 extension from 101 leading up to king street closed through the entire day today. >> thank you, george. we have a developing story out of pittsburgh -- pittsburg this morning where officers are looking for a driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run. where exactly is this, will? >> reporter: this is off of willow pass road and mountain view just a few miles off highway 4. it happened right behind me. you see that cone, darya? this used to be a light pole. it happened around 7:00 last night. the driver and witnesses were here gave a pretty detailed description of the truck. it's a chevy silver truck with side steps. that's the detail witnesses gave officers. should have considerable damage

because the victim was pushing a shopping cart. here's video that we got right after it happened. the woman apparently was on the sidewalk pushing it along, a 50- year-old woman out of bay view, minds her own business. all of a sudden this car according to investigators just veers off the roadway, hits the light pole first and apparently was trying to correct it after it happened but then slams into the woman. the woman, she died at the scene. her name not being released. this person did not pull over which is the law, did not pull over but continued to go on. we don't have a license plate number at this time, but again this person should have considerable damage to the silver chevy pickup truck. this all happened about nine hours ago. investigators left around midnight. they should have details a little later this morning. so far the victim has not been identified, darya. >> thanks, a lot, will. san francisco police investigating a shooting that critically injured a person sunday afternoon. this was near the university of

san francisco in the area of golden gate avenue and broderick street. police say the victim in this has not been identified but was taken to the san francisco general hospital with critical injuries. officials say that suspected shooter in this incident did flee the scene and the vehicle remains at large. they're still looking for that person this morning. 5:04 is the time right now. just days after the n.f.l. came out saying they were going to come down harder on those players who were charged with and accused of domestic violence, a 49er is the first player to put that to the test. that's right, a veteran 49er, has been arrested on a domestic violence charge. this is the first time since roger goodell just a few days ago came out saying he got it wrong with ray rice and a two -game -- anyone convicted --

what will happen to the 29-year- old 49er arrestedder in san jose and what will happen to the team? we have the latest. >> reporter: ray mcdonald was arrested at his san jose home. birthday balloons in the backyard point to a celebration. he was booked and later released on $25,000 bail. the charge felony domestic violence. police have not clarified who he is accused of assaulting. they released this statement saying the 49ers are aware of the recent reports regarding ray mcdonald and we take matters seriously. we'll receive further comment. now the niners are awaiting further comment from commissioner roger goodell. he recently raised the penalty for all n.f.l. players and staff involved in domestic violence. the first offense now carries a six-game suspension. the second offense bears a

lifetime ban. this only days after goodell said he made a mistake with baltimore ravens runningback ray race who was given a two- game suspension after rice appeared to be caught on video assaulting his wife. the niners are already reeling from another goodell decision made this week when the commissioner announced a nine- game suspension for star linebacker alden smith. like smith, ray mcdonald's problems at least in part stem from his use of alcohol. his previous run-in with the law was 2010 when he was booked for driving under the influence. the north korean government allowed a cnn crew interview three americans being held captive there. one is kenneth bay who's been convicted by north korea of trying to overflow that government. he sat down with will riply at a hotel and here's part of that interview. >> my health's failing.

and for the rest of the week we'll be seeing mild conditions. when i come back, i'm have your open as forecast for today. but first, here's george with your traffic. how is it looking out there? >> as would you expect, there are no traffic issues this early hour even though the chp is with an overturned accident on 580 westbound, it's not having any impact on the drive around the area because there is no traffic on the mcarthur freeway through oakland this morning. there will be heavy traffic through the day on 101 northbound through san francisco with the continued closure of the 280 extension northbound. that's until tomorrow morning. looking at the bridges as you would expect, light traffic here at the bay bridge. don't expect to see the metering lights on at any time this morning. and for your 92 ride, the san mateo bridge is completely clear. as it is for the golden gate bridge and highway 101, they will not reconfigure the bridge this morning since there won't be a commute. it will likely remain as it is with a buffer lane in the center this morning for the

southbound 101 ride. and i showed you a picture of the bay bridge. remember, the bay bridge opened one year ago today celebrating its first anniversary. did you know the bridge is not only the longest single tower suspension span, it is also the widest bridge in the world with ten lanes of traffic. >> good looking bridge, too. >> it is. >> i was at the ballpark, you know, and i was looking out at the bridge. i just thought, it's so much nicer now that they've redone it. the view is beautiful. >> it is. it's a treat to drive across. >> george loves driving. you know that. thank you. 5:19 is the time right now. over news we're following this morning. five people were injured in a boat explosion. it happened off the coast of maryland. here's a photo of it. three of those injured were taken to a burn center. it's not clear lou badly they were burned. this was a 24-foot boat that burst into flames as it was getting ready to pull away from the dock in ocean pines. a man who lives near the dock snapped these photos of the

aftermath. a pilot in florida has died after crashing into the water off of st. petersburg. the pilot had just picked up an advertising banner and was beginning to ascend when there were popping noises that could be heard from the plane and it started to nose-dive and then crashed into the water. the pie low's body was search and rescue s body was teams. now the faa is investigating. officials say all five people aboard a small plane that crashed near denver are dead. it crashed near the erie municipal airport sunday. two were taken to the hospital but declared dead. >> i just knew right away the way it sounded that it had gone down. >> it was really low and it just went -- it really started sputtering like da, da, da and then no sounds. >> plane crashed just a few hundred yards northwest of the

runway. at this point they don't know, though, if that plane was landing or taking off. the ntsb now involved in the investigation. a shopper in michigan was killed over the weekend when hundreds of pounds of floor tiles fell on top of him at a hardware store. this accident happened saturday morning at a menard's store in southeast michigan. a forklift operator had just finished stacking ceramic tiles on the top shelf when he noticed the palate was tipping and he yelled for the shopper and his wife to watch out but only the wife heard the warning and got out of the way. the man died hours later at the hospital after being crushed. police say there's no indication right now ever negligence in this case but they are still investigating. a group of lawmakers have requested a house arms committee reconvene early and not wait for congress to return next week. u.s. air strikes helped break an isis siege. lawmakers are calling for a well defined policy for dealing with isis in syria.

5:26. it's the end of an era in oakland. the last of the downtown department stores is closing. sears at 20th and broadway has been winding down now in recent months getting ready to close its doors for good. we shot this video when sears was first announced that it was going to be leaving. the 85-year-old building was sold to a silicon valley investor and it's slated to reopen in about a year as something else. the new and improved sears

building is expected to house a high-tech company as well as a cluster of hip new stores. the city says it's an economic shot in the arm that downtown oakland desperately needs. it is 5:27. you know, it is the corporate equivalent of high stakes poker with tesla motors now. it has five states bidding to attract a $5 billion facility that will be making batteries for the cars. the winner is expected to receive incentives. so far te st la has -- tesla has done work on a potential site in nevada. the company will prepare at least one other before making a final decision by year's end. that leaves california, texas, arizona, new mexico. those states wondering what they can do to be a finalist. we'll have to follow that story sphwhrz two major casinos are closing in atlantic city, new jersey. showboat casino closed its doors sunday afternoon after 27 years on the boardwalk. nearly 2000 employees lost their jobs. you can see them consoling each

and two men all in their late teens to early 20s were wounded by gunfire. police say this man pulled the trigger 21-year-old parolee anthony torres from stockton, one of three uninvited guests who showed up to a house party here. >> once they're at the party, it turns out that they get involved in sort of -- some sort of verbal confrontation. >> reporter: officer steve gord said partygoers then asked torres and his two guests to leave and they did. >> and about 30 minutes later a white sedan pulls up, stops in front of the house. a lot of people are out in the front yard and someone within the vehicle begins to shoot. >> reporter: police think torres is that person. he was arrested during a traffic stop in livermore about nine hours after the shooting. >> ultimately it ended well and i just hope everybody is okay. >> reporter: police say the victims all suffered nonlife threatening injuries. torres was booked into the santa rita jail on five counts of attempted murder and one count of shooting a firearm into an inhabited dwelling.
