new this morning. an 11-year-old child a dead. the chp says it appeared about 1:00 this morning. they say the driver of a black chevy suburban lost control of the car and drove down an embankment. the driver suffered nonlife threaten injuries.

two other passengers were rushed to the hospital as a precaution. the crash still been investigated. >> two people are recovering after their vehicle overturned on the freeway in oakland. they say it happened saturday around 2:00 p.m. on eastbound 580. a couple was driving a truck that was toeing a tractor trailer but both overturned. the 85 year old driver were hurt. the driver suffering major injuries. they were both taken to a nearby hospital. all lanes of eastbound 580 were closed for about half an hour as an officer was investigating the crash. a suspicious device. that passenger was found inside a hotel restroom. police evacuated the first two floors as a bomb squad investigated. they later determined the package was not an explosive device and let people back in

a category 4. that's swirling over the pacific over the be, baja peninsula. the california peninsula later tonight. the maximum sustained winds were at 5 miles an hour. hurricane warnings have been posted along the western baja california coast. more about whether or not they're going to bring some rain to california. >> good morning. yeah, that is certainly a possibility. let's take a look a at the position of this category four hurricane. it's taking aim.

just like hurricane north bert did. it's following the same storm track. it will continue in the northwesterly direction. right now we're looking at the possibility of high is surf, strong damaging winds up to 135 miles an hour. and the entire baja peninsula. it'll continue to work its way closer to parts of southern california. we could see some heavy rain in the los angeles area. san diego as well. and it's not inconceivable that some the moisture will work its way into the bay area. not as a hurricane, of course, but stalking about some remanent moisture headed our way wednesday into thursday. so the reason this is -- gained intensity so quickly as the hurricane has pushed into warmer waters the once it transitions it cooler waters and hits land, it'll begin to slow down and break apart a bit. we are dealing with marine layer. it has compressed a little bit.

we're back. hurricane odel has strengthened. that's toward mexico. the national hurricane center predicts that odel to brush with the southern part of the peninsula. the storms maximum sustained winds were sustained and 35 miles an hour. hurricanes warnings have been posted along the western coast. a lot of folks up here wondering, o.k., is that going to bring some rain to the bay area. >> it's looking pretty likely. a 20% chance. let's focus on the satellite and radar imagery. this is now a category four. it has gain intensity as it's moved in. it's taking aim. and it's pretty much going to follow the same storm track. so right now we are sighing sustained winds at is 135 miles an hour. and it is going to affect the

baja peninsula. it will continue in the northwesterly direction. it could bring rain to southern california, places east of los angeles. the san diego area as well and we will see some of that moistuthe bay area, not as a hurricane, of course, but some of the remanent moisture will bring a few rain drops. we're going to tap into that. we see rain around september 30th. that's typically the first rain of the season. generally we see 20% chance of rain, that doesn't look too likely but in the bay area, 20% chance is a guarantee we'll see it somewhere. we need it here. we've been dealing with very dry conditions and another chance for showers as we head into the first week of october. but for now still dealing with pretty toasty conditions. about a thousand feet. we do have dense fog.

we're back. time to talk about the weather forecast. you think there might be rain in the forecast. >> yes, definitely. a possibility. we're looking at a 20% chance. generally we see the first rain around the 30th. we're a little ahead of schedule. if you are heading to the stadium, temperatures will be in the low 80s. looking ahead, we'll notice a cooldown. we do have the point of showers in the forecast. i will be breaking down that coming up in 15 minutes. fire officials in orange county have ordered the evacuation of hundreds of homes while they try to knock down

the silverado wildfire. at least 1500 acres have burned in the silverado canyon area. it started friday in the mountains of cleveland national forest. record high triple-digit heat expected to continue through the weekend. more than 800 firefighters are working to control this blaze along with 15 aircraft. at least three firefighters had to be hospitalized after suffering heat-related injuries. the gulch fire continues in shasta county. calfire says all restrictions have been lifted in shasta county. all residents can return home. most roads are open. the gulch fire has charred 1300 acres and is 85% contained. no buildings have been damaged. investigators are saying a vehicle fire ignited this wildfire on wednesday. and the wildfire burning in yosemite is still only about 50% contained. it has burned now over 4900 acres. although park rangers reopened

half dome yesterday morning, the trail leading to the top of the iconic landmark is still shut down this morning. many popular hiking trails remain closed as well today. sonoma county deputies say a man shot and killed his wife after he says she attacked him with a knife. it happened in glen ellen last night on warm springs road. officers say the man who allegedly shot his wife was bedridden. detectives are investigating the case this morning. governor brown has signed a bill protecting unpaid interns and volunteers from sexual harassment. this comes after a case in new york where an unpaid intern said she was sexually harassed by her supervisor. california now the third state in the country to explicitly ban sexual harassment inspect workplace directed toward unpaid interns. the new state law includes protections discrimination based on gender. a rash of burglaries and thefts is plaguing one san jose neighborhood. more than 100 incidents of burglary or theft had been

reported in the evergreen neighborhood in the last month. residents in the area say they try and get the police to come out but say police tell them their primary focus is on violent crime. now concerned residents have come together to try and prevent the recent break-ins. a parking meter glitch in downtown walnut creek that left drivers with unwarranted parking tickets is now fixed. city officials say sensors near new smart meters were installed last year and those sensors were supposed to wirelessly until to the meter when a car inters and leaves a -- enters and leaves a parking lot. official says they were too sensitive and caused the meter to reset. some people were given unwarranted tickets. happening today, swimmers will brave chilly water waters for the 2014 alcatraz swim. ferries will depart from san francisco this morning at 9:15. at 10:00 a.m., swimmers will

here. making their debut at levi stadium as they take on the bears at 5:30 in prime time. kron4 has been hanging out at the stadium all morning talking to fans. mike has more. hi, mike. >> reporter: well, marty, good morning. so far we've seen a couple of fans out here. they were simply too excited to sit in their hotel rooms. they are scoping out the stadium. the home opener is a first for fans and for the team. but also for the 49ers' organization. we'll see if they are ready to handle the nearly 70,000 fans expected here later tonight. now, this morning, we found crews dealing with last-minute presentations. levi stadium hosted four events but nothing like a regular season home opener. we'll find out if the traffic plan they have in place is good or not. vta will offer special express trains and buses that start three hours before kickoff. caltrain will provide additional trains from mountain view and san francisco. officers will also have traffic controls in place as we expect a lot of pumped up fans helping

new this morning, an 11- year-old child is dead after an overnight crash in burlingame. the chp says the incident happened about 1:00 this morning on i-280 northbound near truesdale drive. they say the driver of a black chevy suburban lost control of the car and drove down an embankment. the driver suffered major but non-life-threatening injuries. the child was pronounced dead at the scene. two other passengers were rushed to the hospital as a precaution. all lanes of the freeway are reopened. two people are recovering after their vehicle overturned on the freeway in oakland. chp officials say it happened saturday around 2:00 p.m.

on eastbound 580. they say a couple was driving a truck that was towing this tractor-trailer. both overturning on the roadway. the 85-year-old driver and his wife were hurt. the driver suffering major injuries. they were both taken to the hospital. all lanes of eastbound 580 were closed for about a half and hour as officers investigated this crash. and the san jose hilton hotel was evacuated for most of the day yesterday because of a suspicious device. the package was found inside a hotel restroom late saturday morning. police evacuated the first two floors as the bomb squad investigated. they later determined the package was not an explosive device and let people back in the hotel around 5:30 last night. good morning. happy sunday. starting things off with a mix of sun and clouds. but a lot of sunshine and yes another day, another round of pretty hot temperatures around the bay area. we will as we head into early next week i will have the full details on

we're back on kron4 news weekend. erica is tracking that hurricane off the coast of baja. >> good morning. right now, it's classified as a category 4 hurricane. it really made some significant developments overnight with sustained winds at 135 miles per hour. now, right now, it's developing offshore as it moves into warmer waters. it is aiming right now at the cabo san lucas area. it will continue to bring high surf and strong winds just offshore of baja, california. now, this is pretty much gonna take the same track we saw with hurricane norbert. it will move in a northwesterly direction, impact the coastline here. we could see storm surge areas of flooding. it could even bring heavy rain to parts of southern california. now, we're also tracking the possibility of it bringing some of that moisture here. the remnants of that hurricane wednesday into thursday. so there's the possibility of rain in the bay area.

9:45. fire officials in orange county have ordered the evacuation of hundreds of home acs as they try -- homes as they try to knock down a fire. the blaze started friday in the mountains of the cleveland national forest. more than 800 firefighters on the fire lines there working to control the blaze along with 15 aircraft. at least three firefighters had to be hospitalized after they suffered heat-related injuries. and the gulch fire continues to burn in shasta county but some good news this morning. calfire says all restrictions have been lifted in shasta county. all residents can return home. the gulch fire charred 1300 acres. it's 85% contained. no buildings have been damaged. investigators say a vehicle firic nighted the -- fire ignited the fire on wednesday. and in yosemite, 4900 acres

(applause) but thanks for tuning in and thank you again for coming out. i like to start with something funny. i heard about these three men that were traveling together: a hindu priest, a jewish rabbi and a televangelist. they stopped at a farmhouse for lodging. the farmer said, "i only have room for two of you in the house. somebody will have to stay out in the barn." the hindu priest said, "i'll do it." in a few minutes there was a knock on the door. he said, "i can't stay out there. there's a cow and cows are sacred in our religion."
