the fire was about 27,000 acres, 5 miles long and 3 miles across. thats already a big wildfire. >> reporter:then over night the wildfire just exploded in size and spread to the northeast. the burn zone is now 21 miles long and 8 miles wide, it has stretched into placer county. >> reporter:the fire has now consumed more than 71 thousand acres have been burned and that was as of this morning.. so by now it's probably even larger. >> reporter:to illustrate just how big this fire is.. here's a map of san francisco which covers about 31 thousand 360 acres.. so this fire is more than twice as big as the city of san francisco >> reporter:now, cal fire says this blaze is still on the move. they have detected spot fire about three miles ahead of the fire.. and the blaze is now within about 16 miles of the shores of lake tahoe. >> reporter:all around the burn zone, there are road closures and mandatory evacuations still in place. finally two evacuations centers have been set up to the south and west of the fire. one here in camino along highway 50 and another here in the town of georgetown. >> reporter:in the newsroom, charles clifford kron 4 news. >> pam: and the king fire just one of many wildfires burning across california. coming up at six -- a look at an even more destructive fire burning to the north.

his lawyers are trying to reverse a felony 'obstruction of justice' charge from 2011. >> pam: today, bonds' lawyer asked an 11- judge panel to overturn the ruling. >> pam: earlier, a three- judge circuit court of appeals panel. upheld the conviction, but agreed to reconsider the case. >> pam: bonds was slapped with obstruction of justice. after not giving a clear answer in court during his 2003 steroids scandal. >> pam: the question was about whether or not he received steroid injections from someone other than his doctor. >> pam: bond's lawyer says, the prosecuters should have asked the question again. if they weren't satisfied with his answer. >> pam: one of the judges today said, there is not enough evidence to prove that bonds obstructed justice. the judge says thats because bonds answered the question clearly later his testimony. >> pam: the bay area getting some much needed rain overnight. this was the scene in san rafael early this morning. >> pam: a few spots did get some fairly decent -- but brief -- rainfall. now a live look at san francisco. clear skies now.

>> pam: our chief meteorologist jacqueline bennett is standing by. she's been tracking the rain -- and what's next. >> jacqueline: santa cruz mountains caught the most part the most rain by far. these are the highest total that we have seen all round the bay area. we have seen even less than that in santa rosa and oakland hills and richmond. with a 10th of an inch of rain. just a few other for most locations like los gatos, staff francisco and san bruno. picking up 100 of an inch of rain. you see that here on satellite, things are clearing up and we are not seen any more rain. we are down for rain right now. we will talk more about that and the weekend ahead coming
