morning, a 20-year-old man is in custody for stabbing his own mother to death in the east bay. that stabbing was reported just after 7:00 last night in hayward. officers responded to the 27,000 block of laport avenue where they found a woman suffering from at least one stab wound. her son was taken into custody a short time later. a 20-year-old man gunned down in east palo alto. friends and family say it's the case of mistaken identity and he's the victim of a drive by shooting. >> a once promising life cut short. >> it shouldn't have happened. >> bullet holes tell the violent story. >> came through here. and then the bullet came through here. >> a long time family friend of 20-year-old mark madden rent as room here in east palo alto and

new this morning a man is in jail in connection with a burglary at a student housing complex in albany. the man is identified as 34- year-old jared farley. he's accused of burglarizing a home at a complex and was found with a concealed handgun. you see police arrested this man on weaponry and burglary charges. according to police, fairly also has a $50,000 warrant out of san francisco. pet loompa police are looking for $70,000 worth of segues stolen from a trailer. police say the white 14-foot

here's erica with your forecast. >> good morning, anny. it could be ending as early as today for some of us. much cooler conditions for the coastline. we're off to a foggy start and that's going to limit our temperatures as we head into the afternoon. right now, pretty mild weather, 50s and 60s out there. some of the protected valleys in the north, however, have dropped into the upper 40s under mostly clear conditions. by lunchtime, we'll start to warm things up. by 3:00, look for the mid-70s coast side and upper oils bayside. we'll see 90s tpr for the warmest inland spots. that's going to bump up the temperatures inland. like i mentioned, we do have a bit of a marine layer in the forecast. 88, 92 and sunny veil. a high of 94. 97 however for ever green. taking it over to the east bay. concord, pittsburg.

seizes and contaminated surfaces. it's been confirmed in over -- states. some children commented especially vulnerable because of pre-existing conditions, but the medical examiner says that was not the case in ely waller's death. the man who was treat and released is back in the hospital. officials at a massachusetts hospital say dr. sacra is being isolated. they don't think it's a recurrence. he's being treated for a respiratory problem. the center is maintaining close contact with the cdc about this case. a new search for malaysia airlines flight 370 begins today. go phoenix is designated to arrive at is search area in the southern indian ocean.

they will conduct sonar searches. it's supposed to take a full year. flight 370 and all on board vanished without a trace on march 8th. the boeing 777 was headed from kuala lumpur to beijing. authorities believe the plane turned and flew south after losing traffic with air traffic controllers. students in hong kong are taking down barricades blocking government headquarters. tens of thousands of people have been protesting china's restrictions on the first ever election of the top leader. it appeared to be part of a strategy to regroup in another part of town. virginia authorities are still searching for hannah graham, the 18-year-old university of virginia student that's been missing since september 13th. authorities say she was last seen in an area called the downtown mall in

911. five teens were killed after this crash near los angeles. police say an unlicensed 15- year-old driver was behind the wheel. the driver was seriously injured in the saturday morning crash. police say police had a hard time getting to those victims because the car was on fire. the driver may have been speeding when he crashed. over 100 lax travelers are forced to make new arrangements after an ear mexico flight blew two tires on the runway. it was headed to new mexico city. the flight was scheduled to leave at 6:00 a.m. saturday morning. all of the passengers on the flight were evacuated safely. no one was injured. they were then bussed back to the terminal and put on other flights. >> you may soon have to pay more for your super sized soda. two bay area cities, berkley

i don't think we'll be dealing with any record breaking highs. temperatures will certainly approach the 90s. today and tomorrow as well. so here's a look at current conditions. san francisco, 62. 62 in concord. grab a jacket if you're heading out right now. you won't need it as you head into the afternoon. still really centered over the state, sew we're talking about temperatures much warmer than average, but that sea breeze and that marine layer is bringing some cloud cover to the coastline. something we haven't seen in the past couple of days. here's a look at futurecast 4. 70s and 80s at lunchtime. we'll reintroduce the 90s into the forecast. that indicates where we'll see temperatures in the 70s. still going to be a nice day. you can probably still head to ocean beach, if that's what you're planning. antioch hitting upper 60s

october is breast cancer wareness wareness -- awareness month, and with me is m.j. jenkins, a breast cancer survivor. she wrote a book, sink no pink for women suffering with cancer without making the same mistakes that she did. happen -- happy breast cancer awareness month. i'm so grateful to be here with you, and just so happy to be alive. >> tell us about your story about breast center -- breast cancer, how did you findh#2+r5 u had it, and what was the road like dealing with it. >> you know, in october of 2012, i went out -- in for a routine screening. i had missed the year prior, and it turned out it wasn't so common after all. i was diagnosed with the most cancer women have, and with the help of anjelina jolie's surgeon, i am now cancer free.

this really helped me eliminate the thought, pink is cancer. to me, sink -- pink was the enemy. it's so connected to cancer, so by eliminating those thoughts of pink, and by i am -- eliminating pink from my life, it helped me occur /sraoeuf cancer. i wanted to help women out there. i wish he had a bff, a best friend who guided me through all the things i had to deal with breast cancer, and helping me in my life, i became a breast cancer coach, not going through the things that i went through. i wasted a quarter of a million /tkhr-rz that's not with the /traelgt, the surgeries and the travel and the pain, so that's to help other women out there. >> yes. let's talk about the three mistakes that every women need to -- needs to avoid, the first one not having early and frequent breast screenings,

symptoms, immediately isolating them to break the chain of transmission. there's no doubt that we can stop ebola in this country. today, i'd like to spend a minute talking about what's happening in dallas, and then turn to my colleagues there, then about what's happening in the u.s. more broadly, and finally, where we are the epidemic in west africa. in terms of dallas, the work there by the staff of the local and state health departments with cdc assistance has been terrific. they've been able to assess.fg might possibly have had contact. of those, they were able to rule out that 66 did not have contact. they identified ten who appear to have had contact with the individual when he might possibly have been infectious. of those ten, seven are health care workers, and three are family or community contacts. in addition, there are about

38 other people in whom we could not rule out that they had contact, and so all of those 48 people will be tracked for 21 days to determine whether they have fever, and if any develop fever, they will be immediately isolated, tested, and if they have ebola, given appropriate care and determine whether /throrp -- there were any additional contacts to their case. that's how we have stopped every out break of ebola in the world until this one in west africa, and that's lou -- howi7e stopped it in lagos, nigeria, and that's how we will stop it in texas. going onto the u.s. situation, we've seen a lot of understandable concern; because of the deadly nature of ebola, and we're really hoping for the recovery of a -- the patient in dallas. we understand that his situation has taken a turn for the worse, we know that ebola's

a very serious district attorneys -- disease, and we're hoping for his recovery, but because it's such a dead deadly disease, people are scared, and it's normal to be scared. in fact, for the health care workers for people who are are -- who are caring for people with ebola, we want them to be scares -- scared. we want them to channel that fear into being incredibly meticulous about infection control. many people have pointed out was not diagnosed, and we have done a lot at cd /#2kr-d /#2kr-d -- cdd -- cdc, and we'll be doing a lot in the coming days and weeks to inform and empower not just doctors, nurses, health care professionals of all kinds, to think about ebola. anything -- anyone who's been in se /tkpw-rb-sierra leon or new gi -- guinea, and if they

happened about 4:30 am on woodland avenue and haus. >> reporter: good morning. tanging a live look as recovers continue -- taking a live look as recovers continue to piece this together. i just spoke with the lieutenant for the san leandro police department. at about 4:30 this morning, police told it'll me an officer spotted a car with several vehicle code violations 2 miles from this location. the officer tried to pull the driver over. the driver sped off and led officers on a high-speed chase. that led to this neighborhood near the before the accident of woodland and hass. the driver turned around and hit the front of the police car. the officer fired at the driver who still managed to get away. the driver sped off at speeds too high for other recovers to follow. it's unclear -- recovers -- officers to follow. they're not releasing any information on the suspect's car or the driver yet. bithe investigation really is

joe photo and his partner, denise warner. she joe is a photographer behind this project, a photo project centered around homeless children. doimenting and photographing -- documenting and photographing homeless children of san francisco. welcome this morning. how did you get the idea for this project, joe? >> the idea that started began in new orleans at mardi gras. lisa and i bought an rv in february and decided we wanted to travel the country. we got to new orleans, i was we -- we began getting free hugs from kids who wanted to get kids from us. and i thought it was a great idea to photograph them

and start this. it's been an interesting long journey from new orleans to get here. as weave traveling, weave speak to be homeless kids in different cities. and they direct our path and tell us where more groups are gather or heading. >> here's a look at some of the photos you're taking. >> these are kids that we just naturally resonated with in new orleans. we saw a need for them to connect with other adults. and i that for a fascinating to -- thought they were fascinating to look at. a lot of us, because we haven't developed a relationship, we don't give ourselves permission. i'm hoping this gives america permission to look at homeless kids in a different light. >> and while he's doing the photos, you're interviewing these children. what are some of the stories that resonate with you? >> my goodness. most of these

stories are hoarive i think. their child -- horrific. their childhood stories are what we would consider nightmares. one young man said at the age of 4, he didn't want to live anymore. and he said to me what makes a child at 4 years ago old not want to be here? he had just tremendous abuse in his life. i think that the -- i would say 90% of these kids have no value. and i would like the public to understand that what they see, the dirt that they see on them, and the trash cans they're digging in, is really a reflection of their own self-esteem and their own value. and we could maybe look at them with compassion rather than judgment. >> what are their lives like day to day here in san francisco? >> they -- it's interesting. their highest value is freedom. they love the fact that they have freedom. they don't really want to be a part of what they

call the system, which is the money system. they love bartering. they share absolutely everything they have, which is nothing. but they don't hold onto it as if they need it. they just know that they're going to have what they need whenever they need it. and they love when people smile at them or are generous with them. they spend most of their time with each other. they feel like they have a family where they're not judged, when they hangs out with each other. they're musicians and artists, the majority of them. they'll play for the public their music and hope to generate some money from that. some of them make jewelry and make money that way. and some of them just panhandle. >> we're seeing these really beautiful photos. what's if like capturing -- it like capturing their faces and their spirit? >> it's such a wonderful gift for me as an artist. i've been a wedding photography for the

past 24 years, and at weddings i'm given permission to be there and to photograph everyone that i see and document the day. and it's a beautiful, lovely, wealthy day. on the street, it's a very different skill set. developing trust with someone almost immediately, and then cocreating portraits with them. one of the things that i do is i engage with them, i often hug them. and then i have them in front of my camera. and we'll ask them some questions. and it's just really a great gift. it's a great gift then to be able to share the images back with them. >> and what would you like the admissible to take away from this -- the public to take away from this experience when they see your photos? >> that these kids codo have value -- do have value. they have a lot of value and we have a lot to learn from them. >> thank you so much, joe and denise. you're going to be

a recap of the top stories this morning. san leandro police investigating an officer-involved shooting at about 4:30 this morning. one officer spotted a car driving recklessly, and that's when a high-speed pursuit began. the officer was led into a cul-de-sac on woodland avenue. the suspect then rammed the front of the patrol car, and the officer was firing his weapon

then. the suspect fled the scene. it's not clear if he was hit. the officer is not injured and has been placed on administrative leave. the man who was treated and released after falling victim to the ebola virus is back in the hospital this morning. officials at a massachusetts medical center say the doctor is now in stable condition. they don't believe this is a recurrence of ebola. but they are isolating him, and he is treated now for a new respiratory problem. giants fans just can't get enough of this one! brandon belt homering to right field last night as the giants win the longest postseason game in mlb history. it was a long 18 innings! but they held on to beat the nationals 2-1. it's game that lasted a record 6 hours and 23 minutes.
