firefighters are scrambling to save a northern california community. a series of grass fires started wednesday afternoon in applegate.a small town about 40 miles north-east of sacramento. the six homes and several been destoryed. more than one thousand homes are are in place. just one lane is getting by on eastbound interstate 80- in the area.

worker strike. golden gate transit bus mechanics and other support services works have announce they will strike next a week from today.but the strike will the last time there was a strike was last month. when ferrysome bus drivers also did not come to work that day. and we are told they will honor the strike next friday. it will effectively shut down bus service between san fifth day. it's the third strike by members of the golden gate bridge labor coalition.who have been working without a contract since july. the district says 22-thousand people use golden gate transit. thursday. the bart board of directors approved a plan to partner with a-c transit to provide extra bus service between san francisco and the east bay. they will run on friday and saturday nights when bart trains aren't running. bart trains don't run overnight because that's the only time crews can do maintenance. a-c transit would expand its routes from san francisco to the richmond bart station, and from bart station. it would also add a new line serving the pittsburg/bay point bart station.
