(male announcer): this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now. >> pam: now at 5:30. >> pam: a home. filled with straythey move through the neighborhood as they please. >> pam: but ultimately all gather in one san jose yard. now neighbors tell kron 4's alecia reid, they are fed up with the woman who continues to feed the cats which they say, end up making a mess in their yards as well. >>i counted 7 cats in this yard, but neighbors say there are even more. the felines eat and defacate right here in the front yard, as well as yards nearby. >> the smell is very strong. they got too many many cats. like 30 cats. >> reporter:there's food, water, and soil in the front yard where the cats make themselves at home. our cameras spotted feces, and flies. and lets not mention the smell. a rep from san jose's animal care center tells me, each individual in this city is only allowed to legally own 5 animals. but from what neighbors tell me,

a lot of these animals are strays. they come here to eat, because food is set out for them. but those same cats are causing other homeowners stress. >> the cats come in the backyard and the front yard. they get messy. they kill a squirrel, and theres a lot of blood >> reporter:it's up to each homeowner to keep their yard clean. there's no controlling stray cats, but if one does decide to feed them, there are ways to go about it. >> make sure that before you do any sort of feeding, that you are heavily engaged in trapping the cat, making sure it's neutered, then releasing the cat. if a person isn't willing to trap neuter and return, they really should not be feeding the animal at all. >> reporter:i spoke with the homeowner who says these are all stray cats but that they're all neutered. according to the animal care center, she can feed as many strays as she pleases, as

kron 4 news starts now. >> pam: now at six. >> pam: the water in parts of san jose is still unsafe to drink. now we've learned it will take crews even longer to flush the system than originally thought. >> pam: good evening, i'm pam moore. >> pam: it has been nearly a week since the san jose water company issued a boil notice for some 300 homes around sydney drive and sydney court. since then, people have been >> pam: or boil their water grant lodes is here to explain when crews expect to finally have this problem fixed. >> reporter: well pam, officials initially said they hoped to give the all clear by tomorrow. now we're hearning it could be sunday at the earliest, possibly sometime next week. >> grant:officials say recent water samples still show bacinterihe water. >> grant:crews have been out flushing the system with highly-pressurized, chlorinated water that will kill the bacteria and any source of contamination.
