this morning on kron4 morning news another night of protests in oakland following the grand jury decision. we'll tell you who officers are doing to prevent violence. plus an intense winter storm is reactioning havoc on here's a live look outside our roof cam. kron4 morning news starts right now. good morning it is thursday november 27. happy thanksgiving. the holiday season is here and a lot of people are traveling. yesterday was one of the busiest travel days of the year. the crowds are not the only things causing headaches.

wintery weather is slowing down travelers. karen shows us the problems across the country. >> from airports to the roadways to the rails travelers know the wednesday before thanksgiving can bring a bumpy ride. >> i don't usually fly. i've been close enough to home to drive so i'm nervous about doing that. >> and with snow and rain in the mix it gets messier. >> i'm hopeful i'm going get there before the snow comes in and i'll be all set. >> they met the usual obstacles like navigating security lines at chicago's o'hare and atlanta's hartsville jackson. snowy roads in south west virginia and massachusetts, slippery conditions between washington and new york and hundreds of canceled and

delayed flights. at washington's union station amtrack said despite lines and crowds passengers seemed content. >> car partial and the last leg of the trip will be train due to the weather and to avoid the traffic. >> it's good to get a break from school and see my friends and family back home. not too far and i don't mind traveling. >> gas prices are at their lowest in years and the forecast warmer temperatures in the east for the next major travel day the big trip home on sunday. >> we are going to monitor travel situations out of the three airports in the bay area and i tell myself thank goodness we live in california. what do we expect today. >> we not anticipating travel delays within the state of california. visibility isn't a factor especially to south cal.

so we are trending a little warmer than 24 hours ago. sap are san francisco at 53, santa rosa 43 out the door in san jose. as you head to grandma's house expect plenty of 60s and 70s today so today cooler than yesterday but temperatures still 8 degrees warmer than where we should be for this time of year. pleasanton 72 mid san francisco and 71 in sunnyvale but here's what's happening beyond today we are looking at a weather maker that's going to bring significant rain to the bay area as we transition to the weekend. you can see developments with rain to our north but high pressure still in place not any moisture to the pacific northwest but this ridge is going to slide south and east and redirect a jet stream over the bay area so we are talking about a river event a plume of

moisture that's going to concentrate itself over the north bay and santa cruz mountains so higher rainfall totals higher there until early next week. so beginning tomorrow evening we could see rain in the north bay and over 3-inches there and 2-inches for the east bay and 2 and a half for those along the bay so unsettled weather is in the forecast. we are dry for today so enjoy your thanksgiving. beyond the lines in the morning you'll need an umbrella. certainly looking at weather related concerns through the middle of next week. so more details coming up on that in just a moment. right now let's talk traffic around the bay area. i want to get straight to the traffic maps. we do have problems, a fatal accident northbound at 8th street. this occurred in the 2:00 hour. originally all the lanes were

shut down but they did manage to open the no. 5 lane. traffic is light so it's squeezing by in that lane. certainly drive with extra caution. there may be a minor tap on the brakes as you pass the accident. no estimated time of the lanes reopening but we'll continue to monitor it. the rest of the area looking pretty good. nice and light conditions not anticipating any delays for thanksgiving travel around the bay. san mateo bridge looking good, drive time 12 to 13 musn't. the camera freeze is not as thick as it looks. lots of space between cars on the gold gate and if you are using fast track or a cash paying customer top speeds as you work your way in. >> thank you so much erica. the unrest continues in oakland following the ferguson's grand jury decision not to indict officer darren wilson in the shooting death of

michael brown. this is video from our partnership abc7 enters. the grand jury's decision on monday sparked outrage in communities across the country igniting protests in more than 170 cities. in the bay area people started gathering last night around 7 on the corner of 14th street and broadway. demonstrations were peaceful for two hours but some protestors broke out and ran through the treated clashing with police. they started small fires on the street. there was one in the middle of the street and another started inside a dumpster that protestors rolled along with them as they marched through downtown oakland. people were seen vandalizing businesses again. several protestors kicked in windows at a cvs store in oakland and the tribune building was vandalized as protestors smashed windows while they passed by the

building. there was much more advisable police presence from the streets last night as officers tried to keep crowds under control. oakland police again called in additional help from law enforcement agencies. they focused on keeping protestors off the freeways. this is video from tuesday night at one point protestors shut down both corrections of interstate 580 causing major problems for drivers. they had to form a task force designed to help alleviate the problem in the future. >> soon as a pedestrian gets on the freeway we have the obvious risk of them being struck by a vehicle. >> is there any way to prevent people from getting on the freeway when you know that they are getting on the freeway is a possibility. is there any way to stop it from happening to begin with? >> it's a difficult question to answer. with enough people anything is possible if you can line

officers up and down every freeway you know nobody is going to get on it. we have to be as efficient as possible. >> officers will arrest anyone who jumps on the freeway of course. >> more than 200 cars seen in a massive side show at 7th and oakland last night. initially the chb did not get involved but officers made their presence known. cars dispersed and they were able to block hundreds of other cars. shots were fired and there were reports a pedestrian may have been injured. a man crashed through a fence and got stuck on the tracks. someone set their car on fire. firefighters could not get to the burning car because there were so many other cars in their way. thousands of people traveling for the thanksgiving holiday. we'll hear from travelers taking the new bart connector to oakland airport. plus how thieves manage teed get away with more than

welcome back. thousands of people are thankful this morning that it's easier to get to and from the oakland airport because there's a new bart connector. jeff bush talked to those thankful riders. >> it's like a rollercoaster. >> it might be an exaggeration but fun is a good description of the eight minute ride from the bart station to the airport. it's a quiet ride and steady one and the view is quite nice on the way in. >> i was taking pictures. >> you were. >> yeah they are going to be on my facebook. >> it was fun to watch the traffic and cars parked in the parking lot. >> bart spent more than $480 million to build the project. critics say that money could have been spent on many other things but the passengers say they think it was money well spent. >> this is so much more
