pam? >> whether it is the result of the holiday, the cold temperatures or the length of time since monday's grand jury announcement, protests seem to have calmed down in ferguson, missouri. demonstrations have not stopped entirely, though. in fact, they have even spread over seas and as andrew spencer reports, tensions remain between officials and protesters. >> even with protesters at times shouting obscenities. it's calmer here than it has been in the last several days. tense but calmer. the aftermath of rioting after monday night's announcement the grand jury found no probable cause. business owners have also asked why the national guard and some 500 police officers weren't able to protect their stores

to head across the bay bridge and into the city this thursday evening on this holiday. hopefully a lot of turkey. i know i did. all right. right now in san francisco, it's 63 degrees. also 63 in oakland. san jose still mild at 68 degrees. vest, -- santa rosa, 60s. increasing clouds will be dry for the early black friday shopping. the north bay late afternoon evening rain arrives and then, boy, it's going to be another wet weekend. we're talking rainy conditions. our futurecast showing us the rain arriving in the north bay as early as late afternoon. i would say early evening hours. vest, nevada, by 5:00 and 6:00, you may see the rain arriving. this is the first round of storms. more storms coming this way. some locations could get up to six to eight inches. we'll talk more about where those locations are.

we'll talk about that a little later. volunteers showed up right and early in san francisco today to help serve a thanksgiving meal to thousands of people. mayor ed lee were among those. reverend williams hopes for a day where there's no need for these kinds overholiday meals. >> i wish we could alleviate on having to work on thanksgiving day or christmas, whatever the case may be and to meet the needs of people. it hurts us to do it. we just feel like people are not finding ways to alleviate

across the country, holiday shoppers have been camped out for hours, and in some cases days, hoping to have the first shot at black friday deals. this stores are about to open their doors doors to shoppers tonight. grant is back with which locations in the bay area are

open this thanksgiving day. >> some people love this. others hate it. but it's happening again. stores opening on -- this looks like fun -- opening on thanksgiving night, ahead of the traditional black friday shopping rush. you have macy's, target, wal- mart, and sears to name some of them. they're opening their doors. the times they open vary, but employees will be there, as will shoppers, busting through the doors, trying to get great deals and a head start on holiday shopping. pam? >> well, black friday and cyber monday both days are known for bargain shopping, but which is the best day to buy? as reporter rachel crane explains, it depends on what you're looking for. >> it's a bargain hunter's dilemma. if fighting the mobs at the mall is not your idea of a good time. cyber monday is for you. the monday after thanksgiving is all about scoring deals online. last year sales totaled 2.3

margaret choi spent the day trying to raise awareness. her friend, robin williams, is her inspiration for her action. >> the problem is worse than ever. i grew up in this city. i've never seen it so bad. so i wanted to come back and for the rest of the year, i'm doing events where we can raise money and give people food, clothes. give people whatever they need. >> margaret visited one of the youth services facilities during their harvest fest that provides a hot thanksgiving meal for the youth. >> when you see a homeless person on the street, don't ignore them. remember that is somebody's child. it's somebody's kid. and it's scary out there. >> margaret is doing popup shows across san francisco for homeless resource centers. you can find out about these performs by following her or twitter. her handle is at margaret cho.

she has a big one planned featuring big celebs. she has a go fund me campaign with the hashtag be robin. her friend, robin williams, is who inspired this action to help the homeless. >> this is all about him. i couldn't get over his death. my friend said don't grieve robin, be robin. >> he raised $70 million with comic relief for homeless people. in all of his contracts for his films, he required a certain percentage of the crew be homeless. he gave the homeless dignity. >> she picked the larson street services to visit because they're trying to do a lot for homeless aged 12-24. larkin street youth services is looking for product. they're looking for volunteers and people ready to train homeless youth with job skills, maybe be a mentor. maybe offer a mentorship,

it may be thanksgiving, but the shopping countdown is on from now until christmas. americans will be hitting the stores this holiday season. the national retail federation predicts holiday sales will total $616 billion. that's up 4.1% from last year and online shopping is expected to grow to as much as $105 billion. remember the days when a single toy whipped parents, kids, stores into a holiday frenzy. well, things have changed over the years as the electronics and gaming ranked higher on kids' wish lists, and toys slipped in sales. we looked at some of the items aiming to bring back the joy to toy sales this season. >> which of these toys will be the single runaway hit of the season? likely none of them. >> although there's some key trends that we're seeing, at

now at 6:00, a look at these incredible immanages out of oakland as police bust up a huge police side show. happy thanksgiving, everybody. good evening. i'm pam moore. a gun seized and a car set on fire. that's what happened after police blocked more than 100 cars from leaving the port of oakland area last night. kron 4 is live in oakland with more on how all of this unfolded unfolded. scott? protests on the streets of own,

last night ending in that wild side show at the port of oakland. now the chp was able to get this there and bust up last night. they're trying to sift through evidence to try to find out who was involved. cars spinning donuts, dozens of people flooding the streets, and this car fire, this video courtesy of the helicopter partnership with abc 7 news, all of this happening just before 11:00 wednesday night at the port of oakland. from the ground, you can see up with of cars allegedly involved in the side show on fire. investigators say several gunshots were fired in and around the vehicles involved in the dangerous side show shenanigan shenanigans. >> we were trained in certain tactics. we were able to use our training in this instance to block everyone in and block all the escape routes. some people were able to get out. >> the chp is saying they had to detain over 100 cars near the side show and then officers going car by car had the task

of determining who was involved in the side show. >> right now we're identifying everybody that was involved. we're going to have to take enforcement action on most of those parties. >> the chp has not confirmed the exact number of arrests made, just saying dozens of people are now facing several charges. officers conducted over 200 field interviews at the scene and recovered several firearms as well. and the chp says they're more than willing to -- in this case. >> an oakland man is behind bars tonight, accused of driving drunk and causing a deadly crash on interstate 880. it happened near the off ramp in hayward. authorities say it started with a two-car collision on winston avenue. that's when another car driven by chad rain nor of oakland collided with another vehicle, killing the driver.

he suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital in castro valley where officers arrested him on suspicion of dui. and oakland police on alert tonight, just in case more protests erupt over the ferguson grand jury decision in the michael brown case for a third straight night. last night, protesters busted windows and vandalized several businesses. this video from the partnership with abc 7. police were there the entire time. at one point, protesters and police got into a verbal confrontation. by the end of the night, 30 people were arrested. since monday night, oakland police arrested more than 450 people. darren wilson, the police officer at the center of the nationwide protest is reportedly now in hiding. his lawyer says wilson is in talks to leave the ferguson police department and may give up being a police officer all

of big box stores are now open for business on this thanksgiving. gadgets are once again a hot item the year. -- item this year. some camped out for hours to be the first inside the best buy. gabe slate was right there with them. >> reporter: i'm at a best buy just outside of daley city. some of these people arrived early yesterday morning. they've been here over 30 hours. i asked people, why are you here? why are you not at home enjoying your family and your thanksgiving meal and, as you can imagine, it's all about the deals like this, a 50-inch tv for $200. look at this line. there are over 500 people here. the line wraps around this corner and continues around the building. roman got here at 8:00 a.m. yesterday morning. he said the worst part was the overnight. >> it was cold. very cold. >> if you want the deals, you have to come out here early and

come get it. you know. >> you know, just waiting to get in here and get these bargains and go back home. >> david is second in line. he stayed overnight. he wishes it would go back to the way it was when black friday was on friday. but until then, he can't pass up the deals. >> well, it's sad. it's thanksgiving. i hope companies don't do it this way, but, you know, they do. and we have to come to have a thanksgiving dinner instead of having a quick lunch and come back on the line and stuff like that. >> i'm here to get the 50-inch tv. >> 50-inch panasonic. >> the 50-inch. >> and here it is the panasonic 50-inch tv that most of the shoppers shoppers are after. before the doors opened, the line grew to 1,000 people. there were a long line of cars. here's what it looked like as they opened the doors at 5:00 p.m. and the crowd came in. the moment people were waiting

happening today, it's the season for giving this thanksgiving day. volunteers showed up very early to help serve thousands of people in need in san francisco. this is all happening today. reverend lee and jackie spear on hand to carve the turkeys and hand out the meals at all the trimmings. some call it the best meal in san francisco. they serve more than 8,000 meals a year to anyone who shows up at the church. a number of community

organizations in san francisco are opening their doors for anyone in need of a warm thanksgiving meal. st. anthonys will be serving this those in need. their new dining room is on 121. volunteers with meals on wheels will be delivering thanksgiving meals to people who cannot make it out of their homes n. richard, the bay area rescue mission and dinner service begins at 7:00 this evening. that's located on mcdonald avenue. >> comedian margaret cho spent her thanksgiving in san francisco trying to raise awareness about the city's homeless situation. she's doing popup shows across san francisco at various homeless resource centers. she says her good friend the late robin williams inspired her to help the homeless. >> this is all about him. i couldn't get over his death, and my friend said don't grieve robin. be robin. he was such an advocate for the

homeless. he raised money through comic relief for homeless people. in all of his contracts for films, he required that a certain percentage of the crew were made of homeless people. he gave them dignity. >> cho is raising money through a go fund me campaign with a hashtag be robin. a long running bay area thanksgiving football tradition continued today. the high school championship game is usually held at the @in san francisco, but it's under construction. so lowell high school was the venue today. >> the high school athletes were off and running in san francisco at this year's california interscholastic fall championship game, better known as the turkey bowl. >> it's the clash of the two best city teams in san francisco. >> playing for the high school championship title this year are the mission high school

bears versus the lincoln high school mustangs. >> this is a tradition, a rich tradition for lincoln high school. we get to the turkey bowl every year. >> not quite an every-year tradition, but they've won five out of the last ten turkey bowl games. speaking of tradition this, mission high school alum brought his thanksgiving dinner and ate it right in the stands. >> you brought a little thanksgiving dinner. >> oh, yes. oh, yes. i live in brentwood, so it's no time for me to eat over there. i have to take it over here. like said, tradition. >> how long have you been coming to these games? >> 46 years. >> 46 years. >> yes. >> sounds like a lot of football, but the actual turkey day game goes back 90 years, with lincoln high school winning ten of those championships. mission has won five. this year they will be taking home their sixth championship trophy. beating lincoln by a final score of 36-12. >> it was one of the

traditional powers, washington. now it's our turn. >> in san francisco, kron 4 news. happening now, a huge nfc west showdown between the 49ers and the seahawks. it is a heated rivalry with playoff implications on the line. it's the first game between these two teams since last year's epic nfc championship game. kron 4 live at levie stadium in santa clara where the game just got started a bit ago. i've been to most 49er home game this is season, and this is as electric as it's been all year long inside levi stadium. take a look for yourself. thanksgiving is now taking a backseat to what's going on on the field. both the 49ers and seattle seahawks are 7-4. they have the same record. they're fighting for sole possession. a win for either team puts them -- this has been marked on the

calendar for 49er fans ever since san francisco's loss last year to seattle and the nfc championship game. make no mistake about it, this is a huge game. one that on this holiday, families are sharing together. >> i think it's really special because this is levie's first year for the 49ers. it's my first game here. >> he's just passionate about football. today just happened to be a great game between niners and seahawks. and we wanted to be out here and celebrate thanksgiving along with everybody else here. >> and the 49ers already making the mistake in the father. colin kaepernick threw an interception. the seahawks were able to score a touchdown. they lead early in the security. 7-0. -- 2nd quarter, 7-0. and are you ready for black friday after eating all of that turkey today. we're seeing more clouds into

the picture. here's a live look from the san mateo shot. temperatures right now, still fairly cool out there. 52 in san francisco. upper 50s in san jose. 58 degrees in oakland. okay. high pressure starting to break down and we're going to see some changes starting tomorrow. temperatures cool down because the increased cloud cover, we have a cold front throughout the -- of many storms. that's really going to help with your rainfall total. what to effect. it is slowly southward, widespread by saturday morning. it will be fairly heavy at times and then we'll see showers for saturday afternoon. then stronger winds pick up saturday evening through sunday. rainfall generally 1.5 to 3 inches of all of these storms are done by next week. the north bay three to five inches. coastal mountains up to 8 inches. here's your futurecast for 3:00. generally cloudy conditions. by the late afternoon, early

evening hours, four, five, six, we'll see the rain coming through santa rosa and through nevada. the cold front is slow to bring more rain farther south, but after midnight and during the overnight hours of saturday morning, this rain becomes more widespread and passing the peninsula and south bay. and then the rain turned to showers -- off and on showers for saturday afternoon. i think sunday's storm is holding even more moisture. overnight lows generally in the 40s. 44 in san jose. tomorrow san jose getting into 66. mid 60s in livermore. 63 in oakland and low 60s in san francisco. here's your sierra forecast. head up to tahoe for the weekend. sunny, breezy for your friday. snow likely for saturday. rain and snow for sunday. temperatures are still fairly mild. mid-40s over the weekend as far as your highs are concerned. here's your kron 4 seven-day around the forecast. hold on to the umbrellas. i think flooding is possible. flood advisories may be posted later over the next couple of

thousands of travelers are trying to reach their holiday destinations after severe weather back east crippled air travel for much of the country. airlines canceled more than 700 flights and delayed more than 4,000 others yesterday. the busiest travel day of the season, more than 450 flights were canceled today and nearly 4300 were delayed. as you might imagine, that did not sit too well with the passengers stranded at the

airport on thanksgiving. >> we were notified that the flight was canceled. so we're sitting here in the airport waiting for the next flight out. it's tough to sit and wait and not know what it is going to happen, but we're hopeful. >> many airlines have been waiving rebooking fees for travelers, and the forecasters say the weather should clear up for much of the country over the weekend. next at 6:30, a look at the top stories tonight, including the huge side show bust at the port of oakland. holiday shoppers already out in force looking to cash in on black friday deals. coming up, as we approach the busiest shopping season, i will show you what not to do this union square. people behaving badly, brought to -- filmed in front of a live audience. in the next edition of people behaving badly. >> it was a stunning and mild thanksgiving forecast, but we've got changing coming your way. we'll talk about the series of storms headed toward the bay area.

here in oakland there have been three straight nights of protest. wrapping up with a side show in oakland. you can see the cars spinning donuts. the chp was able to get in and bust up the side show, but they had to go through more than 100 cars that were locked up in the side show. one of the cars was actually set on fire. we know that dozens and dozens of people were placed under arrest by the chp in that area near the port of oakland. i can tell you that the chp says this is an ongoing investigation. they will be looking at evidence and more arrests are likely. reporting in oakland, scott race, kron 4 news. in san francisco, comedian

take a look at this. it's not a side show, but it's pretty darn close. dangerous and utterly defiant. a bunch of bikers balk when cops try to pull them over for riding recklessly. they're taunting law enforcement. at least a chopper out there.

the guys try to hide under this overpass to no asaid. they're still being watched. this 6 minute video was posted on you tube. look at this. wrong way playing chicken, running red lights. it's hard to tell who's chasing whom. look at that guy. wipes out. that's the only accident seen on the video. then they turn down a walkway. they come out driving without lights. they turn down an alley and park in the dark. why aren't there more officers helping to corral these guys? they're busy with ferguson protesters. a few riders were cited but they got away. this was last month. one officer was no match for

eagles ground game. later in the third and a long night for tony romo who throws this near the sidelines that gets picked off by carey williams. romo gets picked twice before the night is over. also sacked four times. the cowboys slip to 8-4, which is good for second place. 33-10, eagles, your thanksgiving final. now, jay cutler versus matthew stafford. the bears jumped out to an early lead. when cutler finds his man. bears up 14-3. the lions looking to keep their playoff hopes alive. they looked to calvin johnson. they connect on the 25-yard touchdown pass in traffic. down 14-10. more stafford and johnson. a nine-yard pass that puts johnson over 10,000 receiving yards for his career. stafford finds johnson in the back corner of the end zone. the touchdown pass puts the
