a look at downtown san francisco. so visibility not too much of factor in the city itself. take a look at your visibility chart, you're seeing about a mile and a half. three times a mile in the south bay. 45s if you're driving along the coastline. we're heading out so that can change by later on tonight. we're talking about wet weather, this system is not going to bring a ton of rain, in fact most of us will go on until about midday wednesday. we have a power storm headed in our direction. i'll talk about how much rain we're ready to go coming up. >> the top store following for you this morning, 4th night demonstrators mark against new york grand jury decision not to indict a new york white police officer. people from all over the world are showing their support as you see here on your screen on the left in paris.

across the river from the isle power they were protesting. back in the u.s. in los angeles people to the high land intersection at the bottom right also look at what's happening in georgia on the east coast you can see protesters how they do it in atlanta. students and supporters lay ton the sidewalk near an over pass. in north carolina police found andy line of demonstrators. it contains some sort of liquid and was left in an area where 30 protesters had been arrested the group was also protesting grand jury's decision not to indict police officers in the deaths of unarmed black men. no injuries were reported. and back here in the bay area protesters took to the streets, officers say almost 400 people took to the streets and protests started off peaceful but then came violent living damaged and arrest.

mike is live with more, mike? >> well, good morning, police tell me that 5 adults and 1 juvenile were arrested. it's not exactly what for. i'm standing along university avenue where this radio shack they say a couple, take a look at what else is out this morning. this is a couple of blocks away down at trader joe's, sustained several broken windows, several smashed bottles of wine. the manager there tells me fortunately the employees are okay and this is result of protest to turn very violent last night. video from the helicopter partnership with abc7 news shows officers after police say they pulled the crowd to disburse and some protesters began chunking items at police. this started around 5:00 in the evening with very peaceful proo tests with hundreds of people marching, many of them made their way to the police building. a that point a smaller group of

people broke off from the protest and began turning violent. throwing rocks and bricks at officers. protesters meanwhile have been quite active laying a lot of the blame on the officers again use smoke and tier gas. i spoke with 1 who said at home last night although he received several items after police. >> i did a few things i'm not too proud of i felt like it was all for a good cause at the time being, how did it advance. didn't i take away from a message that you are trying to get out there. >> they're destroy things, you know what i mean, and a lot of people destroyed stuff. >> and back out here live in berkeley again along university avenue this protest last night involved officers, police officers from several different east bay agencies police say that 1 officer sustained minor

injuries began very peaceful but certainly did not end that way. annie. >> mike, also live in berkeley, thanks for that report. a neighboring oakland it was a quiet night after protesters on friday clashed with police. local police say 5 people were taken into custody, several crimes including vandalism dispersed and assault, this wednesday 7 people had been arrested. and that's in comparison to last week police arrested nearly 169 people during demonstrations. friday night protesters forced the station to shutdown and also briefly shutdown interstate 88y in both directions the total number of arrests made by happening today

inches of rain to the local areas and up to the 8 inches for the higher elevation that's more than what we saw last week. the ground is saturated we're talking about downed trees and powerlined an localized flooding as well. right now pretty mild out l temperatures in the 50s. we do have some cloud cover, low clouds along the coastline with visibility under 2 miles for half of the day. about half mile in redwood city. for the county coastline that's where we're seeing some of the thickest fog. the most of this should burn off as you head into the afternoon. temperatures right now in the 40s. 52 degrees in san jose. 54 for downtown san francisco. into the afternoon, mix of sun and clouds, high of 66-67 in mountain view. we're talking about very mild conditions and looks like we won't see any even of rain until later on tonight. high of 66.

64 degrees in richmond. also seeing 64 in downtown san francisco. wet weather is on the way. here is a look at satellite and radar, dry for now we'll have a system that will hit the northern parts of our area, santa rosa, up towards -- we could see sprinkles ending mostly dry until midday wednesday before that huge soaker heads in our direction, a lot of rain wind gusts up to 15 miles per hour as we head into next weekend. crews in berkeley spent the day taking apart a tree that fell on top of a house. here is was the scene earlier yesterday. look at that. you can see the giant pond almost on the roof there. now, the people inside escaped with minor injuries. tree services had to delicately work to remove this tree without causing any more damage to the house. they say weather is to blame. >> the tree actually came down fairly slowly, saturation to ground called all the soil to loosen up and the roots on the uphill side of the tree failed,

the tree gave way. probably going to take us 2-3 days to completely remove this tree without doing any more damage to the landscape of the house. >> arborists expect more trees to fall this season. they say a soil loosened becomes over saturated in heavy rain. a 12-year-old boy who was a former student at the middle school had taken his own life. schoolmates bullied him for being a cheerleader. his friends are remembering him now as a happy kid, but sadly the bully got the best of him. >> you can see a glitter and hair extensions finding a boy is like looking for a needle in hay stack at the cheer competition, a male cheerleader. 12-year-old was 1 of them. friends say he took his only life because bullying he experienced as male cheerleader. >> schools like this really

in the mid freeway. visibility has dropped to 4 miles. about a half mile on the redwood city area. now, this fog will lift as we head into the afternoon and see temperatures in the low to upper 60s, so pretty mild conditions over the next couple of days that we do have a strong storm headed in our direction. i'll talk how much we're expected to get that coming up in 15 minutes. >> thanks erica, and rain did cause quite a damage, crews continue to work on repairing a large sinkhole and here it is. day 4 and now most of the sinkhole has been covered with dirt, crews have been out in the area of 6th and lake every day since wednesday working on the gas sewer and water lines. pg&e managed to repair and the next will be completing. the intersection is still blocked off with traffic and crews do make a lot of noise during the construction but most people are trying to be patient, in fact 1 neighbor sums up how most of the residents have this feeling.

were participating. and these are pictures of the protests off of twitter to see people lying on the ground there. officers say the group marched for downtown berkeley. in light of the recent officer involved deaths in both statten island to new york and ferguson missouri, there have been calls nationwide for police officers to wear body cameras. now 1 bay area city is joining the list of cities that use body cameras. i don't know 4 andy anderson has the details. >> she thinks they'll protect both police officers and the public. >> i believe it will protect against false accusations against the officers if they have someone that comes in to file a complaint that their project may not be the best. it will also help alleviate any issues to where we do have officers that are not conducting themselves in the

most professional manner. >> with these cameras there's still possibility for some incidents not to be recorded. >> they're not going to be required to have them on the entire time they're on shift. they will be utilized when an officer feel it's necessary such as during the contact with a suspect during interviews that are necessary during their investigation. >> even so for the most part residents support using body cameras. >> as long as it's portrayed in the real way and not -- and not kind of edited or whichever to put 1 in favor of another, as long as it's a real picture, i think that's what we need. >> the officers will be able to decide when to turn the cameras on, they won't have access to the video. some officers will start wearing the cameras next week to test them out. with all 120 starting in february. in richmond annie anderson kron 4 news. >> according to the press they found that police caused deaths

0 f more than 1 person a day. they say at least 400 people are killed by the u.s. every year. when the cases are brought, they almost the officer hasn't committed a crime. when grand juries decide to indict they find the officer's used successful force or instigated confrontation. they found that jurors are willing to give officers the benefit of the doubt unless they find officers are using violence for retribution. and police are on the look out for suspects who are involved with almost a dozen burglaries. the burglaries happened on friday morning and police say 11 vehicles and houses were targeted. they say the suspects are looking for unlocked car doors. the thieves got away with money and also garage door openers. authorities say the suspect used those garage door openers to steal items. authorities say 3 of the cars also had their catalystic converters stolen.

the only information officers had the suspects were last seen driving a silver honda crv. for those of you making a road trip for the holiday, you can soon pay less than 2 bucks per gallon for gas in some places. right now the national average is $2.71 a gallon. we haven't seen these prices at the pump in 5 years and sometimes the country has seen better deals. in oklahoma and texas some stations below $2 a gallon. not every state is rewarding the fallen gas prices. drivers here in california, new york, and connecticut still pay more than $3 a gallon. here is a look at bay area gas prices down in the south bay it is sitting at $2.98 across the bridge and oakland it is $2.99 for a gallon of regular unleaded, in san francisco it is $3.15 a gallon. happening today it's been 73 years since the attack on pearl harbor bringing the u.s. into world war ii.

here in the bay area this is video from last year's ceremony. veterans of pearl harbor survivor and others will gather this morning to honor those who are killed in the ape tack that killed about 2400 people. there will be a ceremony including a 21 gun salute. ceremony is scheduled to begin at 8:30 this morning at the coast guard's base in alameda. and this afternoon many are expected to gather to the traditional lighting of the beacon on top of the mountain. that beacon commemorates and honors those who died on december 7th, 1941. it will be lit at 3:45 today and will remain lit until dawn tomorrow. it was used for guiding civilian planes to bay area airport. after pearl harbor the light was turned off over fears of japanese attacks on san francisco. it has been move today the campus due to weather concerns today. and the beacon will be lit

considered several factors considering security. in 2009 president obama signed an order to close guantanamo bay detention facility. there are still 136 detain knees at guantanamo. at least 2 people were hurt when a driver ran into a group of protesters protesting police brutality in river side in southern california. about 50 people blocked this busy intersection last night. hundreds were in the area for the annual festival of lights. police say a driver in dark colored car failed to stop and good news here nobody was seriously hurt, police are investigating the incident as a hit-and-run. the holiday quickly approaching some kids are getting a new set of wheels. in san jose a thousand volunteers put together hundreds of fights check them out. they'll go to and low income families this is their tech gear giving away. many volunteers return each holiday season they say it's all about the kids.

angeles, people there chanted down hollywood boulevard to the high land intersection and in colorado protesters tell the die in protests walking traffic just outside of denver. and back here in the bay area, protesters took to the streets of berkeley in the east bay, officers say almost 400 people took part in the rally. now, the proprotests started off peacefully but eventually turned violent. in berkeley with the look at the damage. >> annie berkeley police say they arrested 5 adults an 1 juvenile and results of ho pro tests it's unclear, i'm standing along university avenue and jefferson where you can see sustained a couple of broken windows. take a look at what else we found early this morning. this is a couple of blocks away over at the trader joe's, they sustained several broken windows and few smashed bottles of wine. the manager tells me all of their employees are okay and they had plans to open on time this morning. all of this is result of

protest that turned violent last night, video from abc7 news shows officer if they use tier gas and smoke after police say they told the crowd to disburse and some began chunking eye tells at police. this started as a peaceful protest around 5:00 last night with hundreds of people. berkeley police say at that point a smaller group of people broke off from the protests an began turning violent, vandalizing businesses and throwing rocks and bricks at officers. protesters meanwhile had been active playing a lot of blame on the officers mean again who wound up using smoke and tier gas. i spoke with 1 protesters who said both sides were at fault last night. >> i did a few things i'm not too proud of. i felt like it was all for a good cause at the time being by throwing stuff at officers, how

nutcracker prince. >> and what's it like preparing for the nutcracker. i mean, you guys put in many hours of training every day. it's a full-time job. >> i mean, it's the income cracker is 1 of those things it's a constant in the valley world. you can always, you know, thankfully we brought this -- brought this process in 1944 like you said. it literally stuck around since then now hundreds of places do it and i think that it's something that you can always come back to and real like that the roles are, you know, it's something that you're used to and you can improve on every year. >> and many ballet companies across the u.s. and world have their own version of the nutcracker. what do you think makes the san francisco's version of nutcracker different or stand out. >> mean, i think the fact that it's been around for so long in the city specifically is really special this was done in 2004.

it was done with a really special eye, i think and really interesting take on it. >> and what do you bring to your role in your character, how do you get ready for it and what sort of inspiration -- how do you, you know, draw your inspiration from. >> i mean, every, you know, every print that there's been, you always have a little bit of each movie that you've seen, every story that you've read and you try to bring a little bit of magic to yourself and make the story come to life every night. >> and this is 1 of my favorites, the -- i think this is 1 -- >> yeah,. >> the snow scene. >> yeah, what happens in this scene? >> i mean, i think there's something like amount of 100 pounds or something at night. you know, that's fall physically it's a transition between just really epic battle that happened between the nutcracker and it transitions into the land of snow kingdom

and really intense. it's like a really nice split. >> well, visually, it's so stunning to watch. it's so dramatic and it just helps. it's 1 of my favorite scenes i think out of the entire nutcracker. okay, great, looks like -- are there other things going with the valet from the nutcracker. >> i think there's a normal kind of regular thing that is we do, but right after the nutcracker is when we start the season and we go into the gala and into -- the officials start opening in january, right. great, and this is obviously 1 for the kids, it's not super long the nutcracker. >> at what age do you think kids go to go seeing the

ferguson missouri there have been calls nationwide for police officers to wear body cameras. now, 1 bay area city is joining the city that used body cameras. andy anderson has details. >> the richmond police department got a big delivery. 120 body cameras. >> i believe it will protect against false accusations against officers if they have some someone that comes in to file a complaint that their project may not have been the best. i believe it will help alleviate any issues to where we do have officers that are not conducting themselves in the most professional manner. >> with these cameras there's still the possibility for some instances not to be recorded. >> they're not going to be required to have them on the entire time that they're on ship. they will be utilized when the officer feels that it's necessary such as during contacting the suspect during

you're the executive director to have the education placement center i'm sure a lot of parents have questions about how this new process works, 1st of all, tell us how the enrollment system will work for the school district. >> it's a choice system that we haven't let go, that means that any family choose the school anywhere in the city so that could be a school that's close to where you live or close to where you work or close to caregiver or you can choose a school that's across town that attracts you and has something that, you know, you are interested in. and there are so many choices, how do you think parents go about looking for the right school for their kids. >> well, there are in every parent wants a great school for their kid and there are so many wonderful schools in san francisco and you need to look at what your family situation is, every child and every family is unique and you need to look at what's going to work best for you. so we encourage parents to go

decision to not indict a police officer in the chokehold death of eric garner. people are showing their support. you see in paris protesters were near the eiffel tower and back in the u.s. in los angeles people chanted down hollywood boulevard. in the south there was a die in in atlanta. in durham north carolina police found an explosive device near demonstrators. it contained some sort of liquid and was left in an area where 30 protesters were arrested. the group was protesting grand jury decisions not to indict police officers in the deaths of unarmed black men. no injuries were reported. back in the bay area, protesters took to the streets of berkeley. officers say almost 400 people took part in the rally. the protests started peaceful but eventually turned violent.

kron4 is in berkeley with a look. >> reporter: police this morning tell me they arrested five results and one juvenile. it is unclear exactly what for. i am standing along university at jefferson where you see the radio shack sustained a couple broke windows. look at what else we found early. this is a couple blocks at the trader joe's. they sustained several broken windows and a few smashed bottles of wine. the manager tells me their employees are okay and they have plans to open on time. all this is the result of a protest that turned violent last night. video shows officers as they use tear gas and smoke after police say they told the crowd to disperse and because some protesters began chucking items at police. this started as a peaceful protest around 5:00 last night with hundreds marching down telegraph and university avenues. many made their way to the police building.

berkeley police say a smaller group broke off and began turning violent vandalizing businesses and throwing rocks and bricks at officers. protesters have been active on social media laying blame on the officers who again wound up using smoke and tear gas. this morning i talked with one protester who says both sides were at fault although he admits throwing items at police. >> oh yeah, i did a few things that i am not too proud of. i feel like it was for a good cause at the time being. >> reporter: throwing stuff at officers, how does that advance your cause? doesn't it take away from the message you are trying to get out? >> not really. what takes away from the message is destroying things. you know what i mean? a lot of people were out there to destroy stuff. >> reporter: protests involved police officers from multiple areas. at least one officer sustained minor injuries because of a protest that began peaceful but did not end that way. new this morning, a crash

between three cars on highway 580 in oakland left one dead and sent another to the hospital with major injuries. officers reported the driver of one of the cars abandoned the vehicle and left the scene on foot. the man with serious injuries was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. the coroner will release the identity of the driver killed after the family is notified. happening today, extra court measures are being put in -- security measures are being put in place in the game between the raiders and 49ers. last time these two played was in 2010 and fights like these broke out. there was brutal beating in a bathroom and two people were shot in the parking lot. the oakland mayor says rivalry is intense but she says raiders fans are not the problem. >> people threw garbage at us. we have a much more peaceful

welcome back. a michigan man is charged with attempted murder after police say he stabbed four people friday night on an amtrak train traveling from chicago to detroit. a spokesperson says the stabbings happened when it was at the niles michigan train station. an eyewitness describes what she saw. >> i heard somebody screaming and yelling, just loud noises, yelling. i look up and there is an african-american gentleman standing over somebody who is sitting in one of the first seats in the car and i see him have his fist up and bring it down. >> a court date has not yet been set for when michael williams will appear in court. in the bay area, crews in berkeley spent the day taking apart a tree that fell on top a house. here is the scene earlier

will be lit remotely. police are on the look out for suspects involved with almost a dozen burglaries. the burglaries happened on friday morning where police say 11 vehicles and houses were targeted. they say suspects were looking for unlocked car doors and thieves got away with money and garage door openers. authorities add that the suspects used the garage door openers to steal items from garages. authorities say three of the cars had their catalytic converters stolen. the only information officers have is the suspects were last seen driving a silver honda crv. for those taking a road trip for the holidays you could be paying less than $2 per gallon of gas in some places. now the national average is $2.71. across the state it is lower in spots. some of the lowest prices we have seen in five years. we are seeing good deals in oklahoma and texas. some stations there hit below

bridge pillow? i love that. >> katie kristin designs all these. she hand draws them or designs them digitally, has them printed and stuffs and sews each one individually. you are not going to be able to get a ton. they only make small batches. she does a whole line for kids. >> i love how you can find unique gifts that you will not be able to find anywhere else while also supporting local artists. why do you think that's important do, to support the community in the bay area? >> jamie and i have been par of the community for so long. it is so important to support our artists. it's what makes the bay area so unique. so many people that live in the bay area come from somewhere else. i am from the east coast. i bring home gifts that represent where i live. >> those are nice. >> who doesn't love a san francisco based theme gift, right? your outfits too, is your necklace of the san francisco

skyline? >> yes. it is made by a local designer, made here in san francisco. >> our dresses are from a vendor who will be at the show. she uses sustainable materials and some dresses are made from old sheets. my necklace is from a designer named latch key who will be selling jewelry. >> you've got a lot of vendors. how many? is it hard to wheel it down? >> we have about 180 vendors this year. often times we get over two times the amount of entries than we have spaces so it's a popular show. >> jamie, you started this eight years ago. how did you get this idea? >> eight years ago, the recession hit and i thought i wanted to try to find way to make money. i was in grad school at the time. i loved making crafts. i wanted to start my own hand made business but there weren't a lot of shows here at the time. we started this and it took off and amazingly everyone around

me, i found out, had a hidden passion or talent for making something. over the years we have recruited friends and local artists. it's a community effort every year. >> how has the bizarre evolved over the last several years? did it start out smaller and different? >> yeah we started in golden gate park with about 50 vendors. now we are over 200 depending on the size of the shows. we have six shows a year. it has evolved but statement stayed the same. we have a small core who come back every year. they have wonderful following. it's like visiting friends. you come to see an artist you love. you want to support them and you come to do that. >> i see these chocolates here. tell us about cocoa tutty. >> i believe they live in san francisco. they're too gorgeous to eat but they make a lovely gift. >> i am a huge coffee drinker.
