. thanks for joining us for this special edition of news. >> tracking the intense storm that's moving through the bay area now. high wind warnings posted for the bay area and everyone under a flood watch. we're seeing localized flooding and trees down. let's track with james fletcher. he's watching this, now, for us. >> reporter: the rain is coming down good in spots particularly in the north bay. that's what we're seeing on storm tracker 4 right now. let's look at this and see where the rain is falling and how hard it's falling. we'll begin the tour in the north bay. we've been doing that all morning because the north bay has been hit the longest. we're starting to see the back edge of the cold front coming

in for places like clover dale and hillsberg. we'll see a lot more rain before all is said and different. it will be upwards of a third of an inch in others per hour. it depends on where you are. sliding to other parts, we have santa a rosa, a petaluma and the valley in view now. a quarter of an inch per shower falling for places like this. here's a look at the east bay, antioch, brentwood, getting some light rain. nothing too intense. if you look at richmond, berkeley, we're looking at moderate to heavy rain beginning to fall as we sample the rain. richmond a fifth of an inch per hour. in some parts of berkeley it's green, it's just 900th.

here you're looking at a 10th where it is yellow. this is where the heaviest rain is falling. we have oakland and alameda, now, under the gun a little more. let's zoom in to where we're seeing some of that heavier rain in oakland in alameda. there we are with the maps. we'll see down at jaquelin square, it's 1400th inch an hour. alameda about that. it's not terrible just yet. there you go, there's the other end of alameda island, you're looking at rainfall rates better than a third of an inch per hour. your mileage may vary depending how heavy the rain is and where you are. san francisco light to moderate rain falling now. there's still more rain on the way. they're getting a break on the beach. a good part of the city is seeing rain at times, half moon bay, all that yellow, orange

and red, that's heavy rain and it's headed our way. lots to cover here this morning. mark? the rain in the north bay, jackie is in and raphael right now. good morning. >> reporter: it is really starting to come down out here. it's been raining since last night in the north bay. this is many so of the heaviest rain that we've seen in the last several hours. you can see the ponding that's going on here. i'm right next to the bus station here in downtown san raphael. it's not just the rain that we're experiencing out here. it's the wind. we're starting to see the gusts pick up out here. we can see some of those branches and the rain being blown sideways which really makes it difficult, really treacherous driving conditions. i drove in from know veat owe on -- novato and outbound, there's lots of rain, don't go out in it if you don't have to

it. they cancelled schools in places like here, in marin county. as far as bus services, the bay transit said the bus also not be affected. the ferry service, they said the priority will be the highway 101 corridor, they may have to cancel some routes in local areas according to how much flooding goes on. pay attention, we'll pass the information along as we get it. we talked about it for days, if this storm is going to come. it is here, it's heavy rain, heavy wind, low-down and be careful. the worst is still yet to which is a scary proposition. >> that's right jackie. if you're in the east bay, you're not seeing the heavy rain yet. the golden gate ferry is running right now. let's go to eric tracking

problems out on the freeways. >> like you mentioned, the san francisco ferry has been cancelled and the harbor bay it's been cancelled this morning. at lucky drive we have flooding in all the lanes. up to 6 inches of standing water. the southbound side is fine as you work your way into san francisco. we have wind advisories in effect for all bridges. generally on a typical commute day we've seen this backed up to the macarthur maze. as you make your way to the high rise, you can see the rain coming down here at the golden gate bridge. we asked for a camera shot, there's flooding there. stay off this span. if you need to make your way across the bay, depending on where you're going you can take highway 37 or head down to the toll plaza.

let's go to will tran, he's live in pacifica. oh, my gosh, you're getting pelted, will, are you okay? >> reporter: i'm okay. it's the rain that's hitting my eyes. i need to bring my safety glasses, you saw me with them yesterday. it's really coming down. the rain is not the problem, it's being powered by extremely windy conditions. look at the rain coming from the left to the right side of your screen. we're being protected by the coffee shop here and you saw how much wind is still hitting my face, the rain as well. we'll pan over and show you the waters. look how much activity that's going on right now. i know surfers, i always am amazed how much they love bad weather anding in scares them. i would say today don't even think about it because it is wet and wild down here. if things are going to get worse, i'm fearful for everybody. especially if you're coming down and driving in the bay

area because of a high profile vehicle. this is her live van. she was being tossed and bounced around like a minnow on the roadway. you can see how extremely windy it is. it hurts to be out. we'll move over here. we'll show you, this might be a better vantage point. it's better lit here, you can see the waterfall and rain hitting the ground as well. you can see this guy out there. he's out and about, i would suggest unless you absolutely need to be out i wouldn't think about it. it's that dangerous, there's hydroplaning going on. the next time you see me i'll have my glasses on. it hurts to be out here as well. sir, i guess you run this coffee shop. it's too dangerous to me. i saw you turn off your lights, you're going off. >> no, no, i'm stopping. >> do you expect customers today? >> yes, people come for the habit. >> have you seen something like

. tracking the storm slamming the bay area with a live look outside, a very heavy rain at the golden gate bridge bring and we're looking at the bay bridge and it's raining heavy rain at the golden gate. let's go to george fletcher for the latest. >> yes, the north bay has been under the gun for most of the night and early-morning hours. see the deep red, that weather is headed to the bay area.

that will be here with us in the next hour or so. let's zoom in, things are harry up near clover dale where they have moderate to heavy rain and it's been stormy all morning long. we have a quarter of an inch falling there. slightly stronger, almost twice as much falling in hillsburg. it depends on where you are. all of a sudden, you get a downpour and it's heavy on your head. petaluma it's beginning to lighten up a little bit. we don't have heavy rain in areas like sonoma. we've been keeping an eye on the east bay, and the delta has not seen the cold front yet. probably won't until 8 or 9:00 this morning. other parts of the east bay, like walnut creek, martinez, you're seeing light rain, richmond you've been seeing patches of moderate rain move

overhead. so, at times the downpours really kick in as we take a look at san francisco and oakland, you can see the heavy rain that was over san francisco, now, has really moved over. alameda and places like san lee and dough and a parts of oakland, hayward if you're down south of san leandro, freemont it's light rain at the moment. san francisco is seeing heavy rain. it looks like pacifica heights, pacific heights may see heavy rain. 3/4 of rain falling in pacific heights. some portions of the downtown, a third of an inch is falling in this district per hour. look at that, the yellow is encasing the entire peninsula in moderate to heavy rain. more rain offshore coming our way. places like pacifica, i know we talked to will tran, he's live in that pacifica pier. he'll be in that mess while there is wet weather.

heavy rain making its way in his direction. the rain last has become more widespread. we're seeing it impacting communities there. it will intensify for you as well later on. you're seeing moderate to heavy rain for the santa cruz mountains. i want to show you quickly how much rain has fallen so far. a quick look terrorful totals in the last couple of hours. 2.3 inches have fallen. saint helena2.5. 1 point # 7 inches falling already, lucas valley, 1.77, and mt. tamalpais we're looking at 3/4 of an inch and more on the way. we'll talk about that in more detail right now. and what are you tracking here? >> we're tracking the winds and this is what a lot of people are talking about this morning. you can see windy conditions right now.

the winds in san jose getting a we can and they're feeling it outside the house. we're looking at a higher wind speed, and oakland is 32, 29 in fair fold. not as bad in santa rosa but still on the breezy side. check out your wind gusts we're seeing wind dusts at 20 miles per hour. the marina is reporting wind gusts of 47 miles per hour, 41 in hayward, upper 30s in san jose and vallejo and wind gusts well over 30 miles per hour. where is the wind going, here's your futurecast, it's coming down in petaluma and san raphael, that's where we're going to see the heaviest rain. by 8:00, still heading south and east throughout the morning hours. we're left with light to moderate rainfall and that will continue through the lunchtime,

3:00 and also from 6:00. then we get a break from the rain at 10:00 and then tomorrow morning we're holding on to morning showers primarily. rain forecast 5 to 7 in the north bay, 4 to 6 in the santa cruz mountains and metro areas one to 3 inches. a flood watch is in effect until late tonight. we're watching the small creeks and streams and we'll see flooded roadways as well. it only takes two feet of water to float your car, so don't cross flooded areas. watch out for gusts up to 60 miles per hour. winter warm warning and a blizzard warning in effect, the snow level will lower to 4500 feet come tomorrow. so, avoid the passes if you can. 1580 can be a huge mess. here's the around the bay forecast. today's the bull's eye for the storm. tomorrow we should morning wind

and it will be better. the wind won't be a concern tomorrow. we'll dry out over the weekend but unsettled weather returns to the bay area late sunday into monday. how are the roads looking erica? >> i'm optimistic that we'll hold on to rain in the bay area. a lot of parents decided to stay home too and we're not seeing much backup at the bay bridge toll plaza plaza. from the 880 crossing, here we have a wind advisory in effect. wind advisory in effect for the san mateo bridge. traffic is a little slow, approaching the mid span, your drive time is under 16 minutes between 880 and 101. the golden gate bridge has been dealing with steady rain. we have no report here. the chp has issued a advisory asking all big rigs and high

profile trucks to avoid the bridge if you can. you will have to take highway 37 or the bay bridge to make your trip. we're looking at windy conditions everywhere. over at the traffic maps we're tracking flooding at lucky drive. it's flooding up to 6 inches. drive closely and slow down there. in oakland westbound 580 at coolidge. we have a onramp blocked because of a downed tree. you will have to take the one before or after it. no problems for the freeway, we're seeing speeds over 50 miles per hour. as to public transit there is no cable cars today. the san francisco ferries have been cancelled. another hazard are the trees coming down because of the high wind driving the rain. this is near north webster avenue in petaluma. look at the crews out there. this is around 2:00 in the morning. they have to chop up a tree that fell.

incher. >> this squall line could bring us intense weather here as we progress through the morning hours. so definitely keeping an eye on that, you can see that there on the left side of your screen. deep red. in basic terms, it's bad and that's what we're seeing out there right now. let's look at where the rain is falling at its worse. we'll start in the north bay because they've been hammered by this cold front all overnight and into the morning hours so far. it really hasn't moved a lot. it's inching its way more and more to the south and to the east, but at the moment the north bay is still deeply under the gun. we've got orange coloring as you can see here. let's look at some of the rainfall rates there, an inch per hour to the east and northeast of hillsburg. we're seeing this to the north of clover dale and to the west of santa rosa. that system, that cell is headed in the direction of santa rosa. things will get dicey for communities right there on 101

between santa a rosa and clover dale. moving to the north bay, we have petaluma seeing moderate showers and the sonoma valley seeing moderate to heavy rain at times. light rain in napa at the moment. now, american can cron seeing moderate rain falling, about a fifth of an inch per hour right now. here's what it looks like in other parts of the bay. wayant to slide over to the east bay. we're watching it. still nothing much for the delta, but more and more of the western parts part of the east bay. if that makes as soon as. it's get heavy rain coming in. richmond, oakland and alameda and the heavy rain are working their way into the places radio it now. places like lafayette and alamo and heavy rain is starting to come in. pleasant hill, that means you too as well will again to see these showers. let me show you the map here.

places like sausalito and san raphael, rain is intensifying there. rainfall is under an inch per hour and san raphael an half inch of rain. and it's getting stronger and stronger as intense showers move inbound. let's look at the east bay shoreline. oakland down to hayward, san francisco and the entire city seeing heavy rain right now. this community is seeing rain coming town at about a half- inch err hour. and north beach about a quarter of an inch per hour. san francisco is seeing moderate to heavy rain at times. the south bay on the lighter side, the mountains are picking up heavy rain and these community are seeing moderate showers beginning to fall. i can't stress how much is still on the way. look at storm tracker 4. you can see the red areas headed our direction.

we'll have full details where the rain will if as the weather progresses coming up with team coverage coming up in a little bit. >> thank you very much. let's go to mike, he's live right now in it. iveron. what do you see? >> i've been experiencing heavy rain and wind. we're seeing a little bit of a lull in the storm. that's relatively speaking as i somewhat out, the rain is coming out hard at the shopping center. this shopping center flooded a few weeks ago. we'll talk about that in a second. i wanted to point out this one thing that opened is the coffee shop on the corner. people are going on their routine. they are taking the storm in stride, it's not impacting them so far. they know the bulk will impact them in the next few years.

i wanted to show you what some of the business owners have done to make sure there is no flooding today. some of these businesses which are closed so far this morning have sandbags, just about every business has placed out sandbags to prevent flooding. as you can see water is to the yet reaching the businesses, as i pan the camera once more, some of the rain is collecting here in the shopping center parking lot. we'll keep an eye on this throughout the morning. we'll talk to business owners as they arrive. we've been talking about this all morning. this rain is not letting up any time soon. we'll have to see how it impacts businesses this morning. >> you have the lights on, but in it. iveron we got a report from pg&e that more than a thousand customers are without power. that's a fresh outage to report. that's may be half of the people affected who live there. right off the kohl's shopping center, they have lights on.

they're headed to work, not school. almost all of the schools in marin county are cancelled like most schools are this morning. go to the website for a full list of that. let's talk more about the drive this morning and see where the heaviest spots are to get through as far as the puddles go. erica? >> right now the reports of flooding are in santa rosa, lucky drive usually floods when we even get a moderate amount of rain. i think a lot of people got the message and are staying home. traffic would have been backed up well into the macarthur maze. it looks like traffic is going freely from this vantage point. once you approach from this span to treasure island, that's had it comes to a grinding halt. it's 5 miles per hour. people are slowing down approaching san francisco, as a wind advisory is in effect.

it's a slow sailing from the toll plaza. as would he take a look at the richmond san raphael bring, they're asking all big rigs and trucks stay off the bridge. head down to the bay bridge toll plaza. we are tracking the coast on the pacifica coast, it's been pounding there as well. >> it's been pounded and so have i. it's coming down really hard. every now, and then, forgive mow if i turn sideways, my face is getting slammed. it feels like bebes hitting your face. we want to show you what it's doing. it's wet and wild. it continues to pick up by the minute. if you don't have to be out and about, especially in pacifica, by all means stay inside and have fun watching my face

. keeping an eye on the roadways this morning, we have a lot of flooding conditions out there and trees down in spots. >> yeah, let's check in with our sergeant with the chp to see where the trouble spots are right now. good morning. >> good morning. >> what are the most difficult spots as far as the chp, as you're monitoring the conditions? >> yes, up in the north bay we have downed lanes, but in the bay area we're getting calls for branches in the roadways. be aware that those things occur spontaneously and it could occur at any time anywhere. >> where are the power lines down? >> up in windsor. >> a local road up there? >> yes, correct. >> as far as people, they've been heeding the warnings, traffic volume doesn't seem to be as bad out there this morning? >> we noticed that as well. so, you know, people are, you

know, making sure that they're safe and that's a great thing. >> we're looking at novato and it shows that it's yellow. you can see the traffic moving slowly. if you are hitting a puddle you want to be going slow. and i'm sure you're monitoring the roadways and where the flooding is too? >> we're looking at the gusts of wind, it's extensive. be aware. slow down when you feel that wind shake your car. it's really person that you're traveling at a slower speed. >> what is chp do on a day like this, do they drive the freeways and help motorists or stay put and go out when called? >> in my experience, we usually roll from call to call to call. power lines down, branches in roadway, rocked flights, we're

working with our partners, caltran, they have an extensive amount of crews out and available and that relationship definitely we want to return the flow of track as normal. >> a lot of people don't have work or school today you guys have extra staffing today? >> absolutely we are out there wanting to insure that the public stay safe and our roadways stay safe. >> thank you so much for the information. we appreciate it. >> thank you. >> let's see where it's raining the heaviest, i see more red on the map now. >> yes, it's beginning to intensify. i got a view that the rain is so strong there. the rain goes sideways, the ground looks dry but the wind is keeping the rain moving sideways. that's interesting this morning. we'll look at where the rain is falling at its most intense. you can see the ribbon of red. i'm going to slide in and look

at that. that's an intense band of rain that could cause problems here around the bay. i'm just curious to see what the rainfall rate is in some parts -- wow, look at that 2.95 inches err hour falling. that's 3 inches of heavier bands. look at that reading 3.17 inches per hour. that's going to cause a problem for folks traveling around. we're watching that intensely as that approaches in the north bay which has been seeing rain all morning long. we have moderate to heavy rain falling in clover dale, in clearlake and petaluma, sonoma, napa, no matter where you are on the north bay you're seeing rain. maybe it's moderate at times, but right now you're seeing it at a moderate to heavy clip right now. antioch is seeing some of the light showers, as we slide the

map to richmond we have orange and red coming into view. the rainfall is 1.44 right there in richmond. that stretch of interstate 80 as you're making your way south on the east shore freeway or i should say west on interstate 80 you're looking at conditions that are heavy in terms of the wind and rain there too. the rest of the east shore we're looking at oakland, moderate rain now falling for those bay side communities, san francisco, you've seen moderate rain, steady for quite a little while. more on the way. those ribbons of red out in the pacific, that's headed towards san francisco. the entire pacific seeing heavy rain. you can see what's inbound. look at that. intense, intense rain. let's give you that sample reading once more of what it's going to be like. 3.4 inches per hour falling right now in some of those

heavier more intense bands. that's what we're tracking on storm tracker 4. in terms of what's fallen already, the bulk has been falling in the north bay. sonoma airport, 2.4 inches on the ground. and 1.75, and an inch in wood acre and mountain view, 3/4 of an inches right now. and we have the wind too. a lot of people have been tweeting about this morning, james, the winds have been howling out there. they haven't let up a lot. there's a look at the wind speeds. 32 in oakland, 29 in fairfield, also san jose, people tweeting from san jose, it's been windy as well. they've seen downed trees and tree branches. wind gusts we're seeing at 44 miles per hour, 33 oakland, and the winds are still, 37 in vallejo and fairfield.
