in new york, especially last night, there were a lot of people out and about. everybody is spending christmas somewhere. >> reporter: it looks like a few more folk are showing up. the airport officials estimate that between christmas and new years, about 2 million people will pass here at sfo. char char,-- charles clifford, kron 4 news news. we have that video for you that monday travelers nationwide seen 13,000 flight delays and more than 1,200 cancellations. additional delays are expected. rain will certainly be changing to snow in some areas this week storms have been destructive and deadly. tornado in the southeast part of the country has claimed at least

4 lives in the severe weather is not limited to the continental 48. there's actually a blizzard standard warning in hawaii. multiple mountain peaks are expected to get 8 inches of snow with higher drift accumulations, paradise certainly not immune to severe weather this christmas eve. a hawaiian airlines flight was sent to oakland because of a mechanical problem. they had to change course before landing. airline officials say they did not consider this an emergency. it did land safely in oakland around noon. a brief storm system blew through the bay area this christmas eve. we have the scene in san francisco, there was rain, there was wind, but the storm did move out, nearly as fast as it moved in. let's check in with chief meteorologist jacqueline bennett with a look at the christmas

forecast. >> we knew this was going to be a fast moving storm and because of that we were expecting minimal rainfall totals. just a few hundredths of an inch of rain. right now we're seeing gusty winds. that came with the storm and that's going tooling with us through the evening. you can see on satellite and radar, the rain is to the south now. look how quickly it moves through. racing down to the southeast. we're still seeing snow in the sierra, and we're still seeing those gusty winds. it's clear out there bay area wide. wind gust are in the 30 miles per hour range. 38 at sfo, 33 in vallejo, 20s in santa rosa. and those winds are going to stick with us this evening. it's also on the cooler side this afternoon, temperatures dropping 10 degrees or more over what we saw yesterday, so we're

another ebola square, this one originating on u.s. soil during an experiment. a lab technician is being monitored for possible exposure to ebola. he was working in atlanta when they transferred a sample of the virus to a different lab in the building. the person potentially exposed is being monitored for the standard 21 days. the cdc says it's possible but

tomorrow, the movie the interview will hit movie theaters in a limited release. some people are already streaming it online. sony pictures did work out a last minute deal to release the movie at some independent theaters. people have been lining up to buy tickets. the movie pokes fun at north korea's leader. >> reporter: as people started

lining up to buy tickets here at the cinema 13 theater, beside christmas they had one thing on their mind. >> will you come see the interview? >> you bet. i would like to see that movie. >> reporter: this is a sneak peak of the movie the interview. it depicts the assassination of north korea's leader. before the release, it sparked a hacking group that has ties to north korea. the group reportedly hacked into sony's computer system. some theaters announced they wouldn't see it. in response son any entertainment pulled it. >> i don't think it's such a big push that we need to not show it. it's giving somebody power that doesn't need to be getting power. >> reporter: that unleashed more controversy including the president of the united states saying that we shouldn't be

intimidated to pull it. then sony pictures changed course again and the movie is back. >> it's quite an event. i mean i would say that you know, it's unfortunate that all this happened and political things have to get in the way of entertainment and that's the world we live in. >> reporter: the plan right now is to air it starting christmas day. >> i like seth rogen, i think he's a funny guy. though it may be a goofy movie, i think it's nice to be able to support it. >> you don't have to venture out to check out the interview. it's now available online, people can stream it for a fee naturally. >> you want to go kill kim jong-un? >> totally.

at the airport, still high on the wind gusts. so as we look ahead to tonight, it's going to be clear and chilly, those winds are going to start dying down and temperatures are going to drop off under those clear skies, we're talking about 30s and low 40s through much of the bay area. christmas day, chilly temperature in the upper 50s just like today. as we look ahead, dry weather is going to stick with us not just through christmas and the weekend but through the entire week ahead. here's a look at futurecast, the winds, the area of blue on your screen here, where we're going to see those 20 miles per hour gusts sticking with us this evening, 10:00, a lot of wind gusts through, watch this as we step through in the morning, the wind gusts are going to start dying off and that's going to allow temperatures to drop off dramatically. here's a look at the number, 37

in santa rosa, 42 in fairfield. if those winds die downey sooner, all these low 40s are going to drop into the 30s. it will be 37 in livermore, 46 in san francisco, that will be our mild location in the afternoon. still on the cooler side, upper 50s in south bay, also in the 50s inland and 54 degrees in antioch. closer to the coastline also in the 50s, 56 in ocean beach and san francisco 57. coming up a little later in the hour, we're going to talk about the snow in the sierra. if you want to see a white christmas, we'll have details coming up in an hour. americans are not stressing out this christmas as they have in years past for whatever reason. 36% are stressed and that's a big drop from the 86% of people

this is the bay area's news station, kron 4 news starts now. >> more chaos in the streets of missouri after a white police officer shot and killed a black teenager that pulled a gun. this happened just 2 miles from ferguson. the dynamics in this case are much different than the shooting of michael brown. >> in a region of the country still on edge, protests erupt once again. this after antonio martin, an 18-year-old black teenager is shot and killed by a white police officer in berkeley missouri just 2 miles from

ferguson. surveillance video captured the event. berkeley's mayor says it shows the young man pointing a gun at the officer before the officer stumbles and then fires at him. >> we had a policeman responding to a call. >> the officer was responding to a report of theft. the mayor said despite being nearby the officer shooting a black teen in ferguson. >> the finance director is black, the police chief is black, that's why i believe we're different than the city of ferguson. >> in a moment after the shooting, clashes between protesters and police. the victim's mother demand answers. >> his girlfriend told me that the police was messing with him.

>> he believed his officer only had one option. >> bad choices were made and he approached the officer with a pistol in his hand. >> the case is not closed and the mayor is promising a full investigation. >> what is happening in missouri continues to reverberate throughout the country. they shut down the octavia off ramp. about 200 people were blocking the intersection demanding more accountability by police. members marked the intersection with a big pink triangle. demonstrators say they wanted to keep up the pressure during the holidays. >> as a black man, i have a lot of anxiety walking down the street every time i see a police officer. today could be a day that one shoots me and there would be no

justice. i'm here for people like me and people that look like me that suffer the same injustice. oakland members, they're planning a christmas day protest. they said they want to ruin christmas for police. they want to make sure that police do not get the day off. those protests are in response to what members say is police brutality. two men are in jail after an attack that left another man in critical condition. police say it happened in palo alto sunday. the man was found in the street after being punched unconscious. 4 men ran to the car an swerved towards police. the injured man has critical head injuries. you see their photos here.

they are facing charges including assault. we did see a little bit of rain out there earlier but it was very fast moving. we're looking at satellite and radar picture right now. you can see how quickly the rain raced down into the central values. we're in the clear in the bay area now. we're still seeing snow in the sierra. that's going to continue through the evening. we're also seeing gusty winds, wind gusts at 38 miles per hour at sfo, 20s in hayward. the wind gusts are going to stay with us and dying down overnight. this is what you can expect over the christmas holiday. once those winds die down, there will be nothing stopping the temperatures from plummeting into the 30s, especially from the coastline. in the afternoon, definitely on the chilly side. we're going to have a cool day out there tomorrow. do we have changes in the

seven-day forecast? we'll have that coming up in just a bit. starting tonight at 6:00, the chp beginning their christmas crack down, watching out for drivers making trouble. the officers will be very visible out there and they're asking bay area drivers for help in spots potential problems. >> we want to remind everybody that this is a joint effort. if you see an impaired driver on the road, call 9-1-1, provide us the information of the vehicle, what you see them doing, and that will empower our officers to get out and be there to take care of that person that is impaired. there's not enough of us to take care of the road alone. >> last year 5 people died in accidents on the bay area roads. santa claus is up early handing out gifts. we caught up with him on union

well, christmas is not just for children, a lot of pets are going to get little gifts and treats and little costumes. nearly 70% of u.s. households have a pet, and many people consider them close friends or family members. >> typically people who don't have children might have a dog or other animals.

40 miles per hour gusts and in the higher terrain, mount diablo. 20 to 30 miles per hour gusts, in santa rosa. gusts are going to stick with us this evening and they're going to die down overnight and that's going to allow the temperatures to drop off tonight in the 30s and low 40s. so it's going to stay brisk into the afternoon. we're looking at temperatures largely in the 50s. as we look ahead, no rain in sight through the weekend or the next. dry weather through the extended forecast. this is a look at the futurecast. everywhere you see the green here, it's breezy, it's going to stay that way through 10:00 tonight. then after midnight you're going to notice the wind gusts die down. when we hit our morning lows, much calmer winds which allows temperatures to drop off.

if those winds die down a little earlier, it's going to be colder than this. right now i think it's largely going to be in the low 40s, away from the coastline, a couple of places getting into the 30s. here in santa rosa, 30 degrees there, napa, 40. pleasanton, 39 to start the day. in the afternoon, we're looking at upper 50s for the south bay, palo alto, 56. we're also going to be in the 50s out in east bay, 55 in pittsburgh and fairfield, 56 in walnut creek. also in the upper 50s in the coastline, same thing for downtown frisco. so again, snow is still on going at this hour, still seeing some rain down in the lower elevations. the snow level is continuing to drop right now. it's going to make its way down to lake level here in the next

hour or so. so a winter weather advisory remains in effect, it has been in effect since 1:00 this afternoon. we're going to go through the evening, you can see up to 8 inches of snow there. lake level between 1 to 3 inches of snow. that's largely going to fall from now into tomorrow morning. there's some snow out there, tomorrow real early, it will start clearing out by the time you're waking up. it's going to be cold tomorrow in the sierra, it's cold also friday, but starting to warm into saturday. so here's a look at your extended forecast tomorrow, your christmas day definitely on the cooler side as we look ahead. we're going to see slightly warmer conditions but really it's only going to be in the low 60s for our max temperatures into next week. let's look at your report, no new snow has been reported just yet but that's going to change with the snow flying at this

starts now. now at 6:00, a stormy east coast weather that's making holiday travel frustrating for people today. there are a lot of flight delays and cancellations. good evening, i'm catherine heenan, flights at sfo had delays up to an hour. charles clifford joins us live from sfo. >> reporter: as we head into the evening hours, things have improved. there are a few people at the curve, not too many. there were delays between 30 minute to an hour. that's because of low clouds earlier in the day. this is all clearing up, let's look at some video from inside up on the departure arrival aboard. i couldn't even see delayed flights when i spoke to someone at sfo. things are going well here in san francisco, there's weather on the east coast that could

delay flights. i spoke to one girl that flown from australia to new york, and she said it was busy out there flying. >> yeah, it's been pretty fun. it's been a long flight. i've been able to get some sleep on the flight. >> reporter: sfo sr. one of the top ten busiest airports in the country. they expect about 2 million people to pass through the airport between christmas and new years. a hawaiian airlines flight had to be diverted because of a mechanical problem. it was not considered to be an emergency and the flight did land safely in oakland around noon. stores have been packed all day with people trying to find the perfect gift. kron 4 dan kerman talked to

news. a small crowd in berkeley gathered to remember a teenager that was shot and killed by police near ferguson missouri. how does the situation in missouri is resonating with those in the bay area. >> reporter: just 2 miles from ferguson, a black teenager was shot and killed by a white police officer last night. a small group of protesters gathered in berkeley california across the bay as they try to commiserate with what's going on. this is not the scale of protesting that we have seen in recent weeks in berkeley but still reaction nonetheless. look at some video from the situation in missouri, that's the young man that was killed. police were responding to a robbery call. that's 18-year-old antonio martin. police are saying the 18-year-old pulled a gun and pointed it at the officer. you see some surveillance video. it shows a bit of the

confrontation and the shooting. that's one of the things that people are pointing at saying this is a big difference from the michael brown case. the surveillance footage of this incident and the 18-year-old in this incident had a gun. mayhem at a nearby gas station, protesters throwing fireworks at police officers and there was looting. >> the mayor is black, the city manager is black, the finance director is black, the police chief is black, and that's why i believe that we're different from the city of ferguson. >> reporter: the mayor trying to draw the distinction between the situation in berkeley and in ferguson missouri. the investigation into the shooting last night is on going. protests in missouri tonight are on going as well. so still a volatile situation

off toys. in san francisco, annie anderson, kron 4 news. rain and wind blowing through the area. jacqueline bennett is here, and everybody wants to know if we have more rain coming. >> no more rain coming. this was it and as you mentioned, it was really brief and we knew it was going to be like that. rainfall totals were minimal at best. we picked up .01 of an inch of rain. now again, the storm was fast moving. let's look at satellite and radar picture. you can see it starting off in the south bay. this is a 3 hour time loop so you can see how fast it was moving. in the sierra we're still seeing snow at this hour.

you see scattered showers here over the coastal waters. we are seeing gusty winds out there right now. temperatures this afternoon did certainly drop off quite a bit from what we saw yesterday. as we hit these high temperatures early as the rain moving in, temperatures really fell off. we hit this about noon in most locations. there are a lot of low 60s, look at the change in the last 24 hours. 11 degrees cooler in santa rosa. 10 degrees in oakland. it was 7 degrees cooler in fremont. again, the gusty winds that have really stuck with us through the afternoon are still with us right now. look at half-moon bay. 43 miles per hour gusts there, wind gusts dying down. it was close to 40 in sfo. we're going to see gusty winds out there. and we're going to talk about that and how it will impact your christmas day coming up.

prisoners. governor brown has pardoned 510 people since 2011. a lab technician working at the cdc in atlanta may have been exposed to the ebola virus. the person is now being monitored. he was working in a supposedly secure lab but he may have came into contact with a live virus during the experiment. this is not the first time there's been potential problems of this kind. back in june more than 50 cdc workers had to take antibiotics as a precaution after being exposed to anthrax. we can see some rain out there but it came and went quickly. the winds are going to die down overnight and that's going to lead to chilly temperatures tomorrow morning. we're looking at 30s and low 40s through most of area. temperatures are going to remain largely in the 50s.

as we look ahead, no more rain in sight. dry weather is expected through the extended period. now here's a look at futurecast, you can see the areas of blue here on your screen, which represents wind gust in the 20 miles per hour range. we're going to keep those in the forecast until 10:00 tonight. then watch as the gusts start to die down. by 7:00 tomorrow morning, we're looking at calmer winds, that's when we typically see our morning lows, and that's going to allow temperatures to drop off. you need clear skies, the cold air we seen from the storm and calmer winds, all 3 need to be in place for temperatures to be really cold. so here's a look at our projected morning lows. if those winds die down sooner than what the futurecast model shows, these temperatures could be colder. look at this napa, fairfield, pleasanton, they could all be well into the 30s. so 37 in santa rosa, 37 in

newly released dashcam videos captured a shootout. police got a call about a man waving around a gun at a house. the man they were after eventually jumped out of the car and began shooting at officers according to police and in fact, an officer was shot in the hip but continued the chase when the man got back in his car. the gunman then did a 3 mile loop around the city, came back to the same spot, and police say he opened fire again. you see him getting out of the car there with a gun. police eventually killed the

turkey. they plan to feed 5,000 people with the help of 500 volunteers. a cold christmas ahead. we did see rain out there earlier today. it rushed through the bay area but it brought cold air with it and gusty winds with it as well. we're seeing the effects of that. what you can see here in portions of the bay area, 40 miles per hour gusts, 25 in navarro, 20 miles per hour gusts in the south bay. today the wind gusts are expected to die down. right now they're in the 20s, in the 10:00 hour, you're still seeing the 20s. after midnight, the winds are going to die down. that's going to lead to cold temperatures and you have clear skies, a blast of cold air and calmer winds. it really allows temperatures to drop off overnight. we're going to see 30s and low 40s through much of the bay area, a little warmer in san francisco, and these low 40s could turn to 30s easily if the
