. take a look at that. what a beautiful start to the day in san francisco. we are following the weather this morning. another warm, beautiful day expected across the bay area today. we broke several records as we take the live look at the embarcadero this morning. what a great view. great way to start the day. thank you for joining us on the weekend. i am marty gonzalez. we want to turn now to kron 4's dave rubin. >> we were going to break records and it is happening. we set 10 records to be exact. five of the records were all time high temperatures for the entire month of march.

didn't matter what day and impressive temperatures. today, not as warm. live look at the san mateo bridge. here are the records. not even all of them. we can't fit all of them on the screen for you right now. at sfo, the previous record was nine. and the previous record was 82. just object light rating the previous record. 79 was where we topped out. today though not the case the and we are off to a much warmer start than yesterday. highs will not get to where they were yesterday. >> san jose 66 and concord at 60. and livermore at 66. also, north bay for later on tonight coming up in just a bit. all right. dan. we begin with braining news. we have new details about a field trip that took a scary turn. bus full of kids catches fire

on 80. sheriff's deputy saved the day. we are live in walnut creek where he got an update from investigators. mike? >> reporter: marty, i spoke with the contra costa sheriff's office and said their deputy was a hero when the bus caught fire late last night. look at the bus. it is burned out on the back side. this is walnut creek about 8:30. the sheriff's department said most of them girls. and three adults on board and they were from arizona and apparently a wheel well caught fire. the sheriff's office said it was on fire and rushed over to help. one of the deputies was enroute to work. happen to see the bus on the shoulder of the road. noticed the bus was on fire. appeared to be on fire. pulled the car over to the side of the road.

saw there was a bunch of kids on the bus. >> he got out of his car and began assisting the kids getting off the bus. they were here and they had nonlife-threatening injuries. this is a lieutenant that tells me after the deputy got the students off the bus. the bus started to be engulfed with flames. chp leading the investigation going forward. they said the deputy certainly a hero after helping all of those kids. >> mart i it -- marty? >> he did it all by himself. he had to be hustling, didn't he? >> well, as i mentioned, he wasn't on duty. he was off duty on his way into work and noticed the bus was catching fire. on his own and tried to help. and give him credit to helping 40 kids last night. officers are never really

off duty. that is mike peltoncht reporting live from walnut creek. we tried to reach out to the deputy to talk about his heroic actions. we hope to have that for you this morning. we have new information about a multi vehicle freeway crash in the east bay. happened in livermore and in the area of the altamont pass. we now know the 16 cars were involved this the wreck and started with a smaller pile up and when they moved over to the shoulder much another crash occurred. one man cast killed and air rivetted out with critical injuries. still no word what caused the initial crash. >> they were closed for four hours. happening right now. police are looking for a man who stabbed two people in a grocery store parking lot. it happened saturday afternoon in santa clara and the alameda avenue. they received a report of a fight. when they got to the scene.

they found the victims. they are expected to recover, however. >> now, we have an update for you on a tragic story we have been following in the east bay. following all week. a mother killed while shielding her mother from a gun battle. >> on saturday, a large crowd remembered shameel pierce. we were there and he spoke to the friends and family. >> reporter: sharing a prayer. locked hand in hand. an emotional crowd at franco gallo plaza remember the lives lost in oakland. putting a focus on the devastating circumstances. and countless victims family face when a loved one days at the happened of gun violence. >> the most recent tragedy being 0-year-old mother shameel pierce. >> she was much more. >> the older sister shontae

. take a look at the scene at southern california yesterday. it looks like it is the middle of july not march. according to the weather service temperatures reaching up to 90 degrees in parts of san diego and los angeles county as well. high temperatures brought crowds of people to the beach and number that is are seep in the summertime. we have warm weather in spots around the bay area and other spots. it is perfect. tell us how things are looking today. it here is dan rubin. >> we will stay on that for a

second. pay area native, would you call tomorrow too hot. >> no, not at all: it is too hot. missing the fog and cool weather. but what we have. record temperatures all around the bay. we had 10 set or tied with the record high temperatures and five of the records were actually the warmest for any time in march for the five locations. it is pretty impressive temperatures we saw yesterday. >> not nearly as warm. we will start there. we have north bay rain tonight and into tomorrow morning. it will dissipate. isolated to the north bay. not very heavy downpour. light sprinkle perhaps. we will see another system move in and that is going to effect the highest elevations around the bay area. stay something dry and significantly cooler. it is warmer than where we were yesterday. san francisco already at 65. oakland 61. and concord at 58. fremont at 62 currently. temperatures not as high as you

would see. mountain view 79 and we will see 80s on the board. east bay, we will have 74 for vallejo and 76 in fairfield and top out in pittsburgh. and santa rosa. and san rafael as well -- and we do have the rain moving in. later again this evening starting at 8:00 and pushing through the overnight hours. you see the band moving in. and around noontime tomorrow, it will start to despite and recede back offshore. kron 4 around the bay temperatures, you will see them. and mostly dry weather. >> marty? >> all right. dan, thank you. 40 people are dead following the terrible bus crash in brings sill. the -- brazil. it plunged down a ravine late last night. it fell 1300 feet. now this new video showing the aftermath of the crash shows

them being pulled from the wreckage. it is still under investigation this morning. however, officials say the driver lost control of the bus while trying to get around a sharp curve. more breaking news from overnight. take a look at this dramatic video out of malaysia. they have an acrobatics team that crashed at the lima airport. it was all caught on camera. you can see them collide and one of them burst into the ground and crashes to the ground. the truly stunning part of this. everybody survived. it shows the pilot ejected just before the plane burst into flames. this is more than three days since two officers were wounded outside of the ferguson, missouri police department. they are still shooting shooting -- searching for the shooter. there is an improvement in community and police recommendations as they come together to talk. we have the story. >> i respect what happened

here. this is what needs to happen, this dialogue. >> reporter: it is late friday night and outside of the ferguson police department. protestors and two police officers dom face to taste. instead of tension between the groups. there are handshakes and hugs. >> she always said. come protest. come stand out here with us. easier said than done. >> take that off. >> well, the fact of the matter. i can wear this and still agree with what you are saying. i don't agree with all of them. >> reporter: while st. louis police lieutenant jerry orr is standing on the on site side, he knows many of them by name. one of the things that worked for me is getting to know people out here that obviously helps when situations get tense. it is easier to diffuse it if they know who especially and i know who they are. >> there is also real talk. >> the reason we took to the streets. we have seen one of our young

brothers gunned down at the hands of the police. >> that is one of the biggest issues that got us out here. if i commit a crime don't come might mow -- don't treat me differently than my caucasian counterpart. >> reporter: the conversation is pointed and peaceful. on wednesday night in the very spot, it was a different scene with tensions running high. protestors called for more leaders to resign after ferguson police chief tom jackson stepped down in the wake of the department of justice report showing widespread racial bias in his police force. then two officers were shot. one in the shoulder and one in the face. they are out of the hospital recovering. the search for the cuss species continues and quieted down. they showed support for the embattled police department.

was shielding her mother from a gun battle outside oakland city hall. they were remembering pierce. and that was at franco gallo plaza. remembering all the lives lost in oakland. 30-year-old mother shameel pierce was in oakland. her family spoke and saying the violence in the city has to stop. the oakland police department continuing the investigation into the pierce murder and say that more arrests could be forthcoming. 40 people are dead following a horrific bus crash in brazil. that bus was carrying 50 passengers when it plunged down the ravine last night. 100-foot fall. rescuers were pulling them out the wreckage last night and this morning. the cause of the crash is under investigation. it appears the driver lost control. while trying to turn a sharp curve. turning our attention to the bay area weather. we are expecting another beautiful day around the bay. >> yes, we are.

and knots as many. still plenty warm for you. this is north bay rain and coming up later this evening. >> all right. dan, thank you. two people are homeless following a fire saturday night that caused the roof of their house collapsed. this is the rose creek drive in san jose. fortunately no one was injured and they are saying the fire started because of a problem with the wiring in the home's attic. family members shot by a man remembered him with a walk. it started at the home of jaime jimenez, where he was shot. his family and friends wanted justice and he wants them to know who he was to them. he is not a bad man. he was very good. so kind-hearted and very, he would give his shirt to anybody. you know, he is a very loyal friends and loyal family

member. en he is extremely missed right now. police say an officer shot jemenz. after he pass dollars on a motorcycle. they served a him and they show the scene on friday. the suspect reached for a handgun when they tried to stop him. an officer shot jimenez, where he later died. officers say he recovered a handgun. methamphetamine and substantial amount of money from jimenez. couple of days away, st. patrick's day came early. saturday was the andial parade and festival and emily turner was there for the festivities. > >> reporter: it wouldn't be a st. patrick's day parade without beer and lots and lots of green. the 164th parade and festival celebrate irish history and culture. it is also the west coast's largest irish event.

. we are back. time for a bright and sunny day. >> already off toe a good start. this is 4:00 a.m. 66 degrees. and at sfo and seeing more cloud cover than we did yesterday. temperatures are not going to top out where they did yesterday and still pretty nice. albeit some rain in the north

bay. this is into monday morning. isolated to the north bay. not going to come south of the golden gate bridge and showers will be light and they will dissipate. stay on the cooler side and that means 70 degrees which is mice. >> temperatures right now. san francisco 61. and 61 for oakland and san carlo already. and livermore at 56 and very nice temperatures around the bay. we had a lot more 80s on the board yesterday where we saw 85 in campbell and sunnyvale. places like that. san jose, 81. still nice and little bit cooler. oakland eight, and napa, should get up to 75 and 77 is the high temperature for pleasant ton. this is -- pleasanton and it will dip down south and despite

as it dips down south and we will not see great deal of rainfall totals. we could see more rain from tuesday into wednesday. that is relegated to the higher elevations. we will still stay dry and see temperatures hanging around the low 70s throughout the week. marty. >> thank you, dan. you know, it is only march and the west vile virus -- west nile virus found a dead bird and later tested positive for the virus. last year was the most active year on record in alameda county. that bird was found last year in may. they say it is unusual that the crow was found this early in the year with the virus. this could mean and early start to the season. >> when a dead crow is found, the eyes are check and the mouth is swabbed for west nile.

>> if it has a low infection, it can survive and carry the virus for awhile before it dies: compared to recent years, fewest number of mosquitoes were found in 2014 and it was the most active year in alameda county. we found the birds. and we had one human. >> reporter: now the virus is showing up months earlier. because of the current drought, you would think there is less chances for the disease to spread but that is not the case. >> in the drought year. there are fewer water sources and they tend to congregate around the water sources so the potential for the virus to be spread increases. >> dead bird found in alameda had an acute infection. they say that's what killed it. >> there was a lot of virus within the bird. >> it is from newark. they need protein from the blood to produce eggs.

already. for your day planner, you can see temperatures are going to keep getting warmer. although not as warm as they were yesterday. we're going to see 70s throughout the bay area. 80s on board. san jose, sunny veil, could get warm before the end of the day, but they will fall off quite a bit in the evening hours. that's when we could see northbound rain. i will talk about that coming up later. >> we begin with breaking news this hour we've been following for you all morning long. a field trip took a frightening turn in the east bay. a bus full of kids catches fire, and it was the fast action of a sheriff's deputy that saved the the day. it all happened last night. kron 4's mike pellton at the medical center. mike? >> well, good morning, party. i spoke with the lieutenant earlier this morning. she says absolutely call that deputy a hero for helping that large group of kids get off the burning bus. clearly that deputy was in the

right place at the right time. take a look as the bus caught fire late last night. the sheriff's office tells me around 40 teenage kids and three adults from arizona were on some type of a field trip when they say one of the tires caught fire. the bus pulled over to the shoulder and as it happened, an off duty sheriff's deputy was on his way to work, rushed over to help the kids. authorities say the deputy made sure everyone got off the bus safely as it filled with smoke. the hospital confirmed to me this morning all seven people were treated and released for minor injuries, including smoke inhalation. most of the students on that bus were girls. some were deaf and use sign language. it's unknown where they were headed. the bus belongs to a company called the vine transportation. i spoke with the representative for that company this morning,

the official sauce of the crash is under investigation, but it appears the driver lost control while trying to turn on a sharp curve. more breaking news from overnight. take a look at this video from malaysia. a team crashing at thely lima airport. you can see the planes collide. one of them burst into a ball of fire and crashes to the ground. the stunning part of this is everyone survived. the video shows the pilots ejected just before the plane burst into flames. it has been more than three days since two officers were wounded at a protest outside the ferguson police department. investigators still searching for the shooter. in the wake of the search, there's been an improvement as both sides are coming together to talk. here's the story. >> i respect what's happening here. this is what needs to happen, this dialogue. >> it's late friday night and just outside of the ferguson police department, a group of

shot and killed after a fight. he was still in his probationary period and was off duty at the time. he didn't show up for work yesterday, and they have reason to believe he knows detectives are looking for him. family members of a man fatally shot by napa police remember him with a memorial walk on saturday night. the vigil started at the home of jaime jimenez and ended a few houses down from where he was shot. they also want the public to know who he was in addition to justice. >> we want to show he's not a bad man. he was very good. so kindhearted. he would give his shirt to anybody. you know, he's a very loyal friend and family member. and he's extremely missed right now. >> police say an officer shot jimenez after he sped past him on a motorcycle. she were able to serve a search warrant at his home for drugs and firearms. video from our partnership with abc 7 shows the scene on

police in kenosha -- police say when confronted, the suspect armed himself with a weapon, and opened fire. officials don't say the type of weapon the suspect had. this comes the the same day as a man killed by officers in madison, wisconsin less than two weeks ago was laid to rest. ten americans are returning to the u.s. to be monitored for the ebola virus. the group was in sierra leone doing volunteer work. they have not been diagnosed with the disease. they will be monitored to see if they show any symptoms. they will be treated at three possible hospitals. one in nebraska and one in maryland and a facility in atlanta. relief supplies are headed to -- after a deadly cyclone devastated the pacific island nation. you're looking at video showing the damage. australia sent two military aircraft with emergency supplies along with medical and rescue teams to help the people

change. they will meet to discuss more restrictions. all of this is in light of a prediction of nasa scientist who says there's only one year of water left in california's reservoirs. it's only march and the west nile virus has made its way to the bay area. the latest case coming out of fremont where a resident found a dead bird that tested positive for the virus. the first bird was found in may. specialists are saying it's surprising a crow was found this early in the year. alica -- alicia reed was told -- if it has a low infection, it can survive and carry the virus for a while before it dies. >> compared to recent years, the fewest number of mosquitoes

some of the big stories we're following for you this sunday morning, an off duty sheriff deputy being called a hero this morning as a bus car rig children catches -- carrying children catches fire. seven people had to be taken to the hospital. the off-duty deputy spotted the bus fire and rushed to the scene. he then began quickly getting kids off the bus. officials say the bus' wheel well caught on fire. officers still investigating the accident. an east bay mother killed while shielding her children from a gun battle was remembered saturday outside of oakland city hall. a large crowd gathering to pay respects to her. the emotional crowd also remembered all the lives lost in oakland. pierce was the 19th lost this year. the family says the violence

has to stop. they will continue their investigate into the pierce murder and more arrests could be coming. at least 49 people are dead this morning following a horrific bus crash in brazil. the bus was carrying about 50 passengers when it plunged down a ravine late last night, falling 1300 feet. rescuers were pulling victims out of the wreckage. the official cause of the crash is under investigation, but officials say it appears that the driver lost control while trying to turn a sharp curve. >> this cat is anything but ordinary. she's the world's oldest living cat. the feline is named tiffany two. she celebrated her 27th 27th birthday this weekend in san diego. >> now it's equal to 125 human years. tiffany 2 was born on march 19 march 19th, 1988. her owner bought her for $10 from a local pet store when the
