time now 4:10. at least 158 people are dead and 16 others wounded. the gunman fired inside the dorms. the condition of those injured have not immediately been released this morning but investigators believe the attack was carried out by a virginia mall lee islamic extremist group. the e-mail was sent to the attorneys for denise huskins and the attorneys for her boyfriend aaron quip. the person claiming to be the ring leader of the group is backing off the demand. the e-mail insists the abduction last week was real and criticizes how vallejoless

have handled the case. vallejo police have made no comment and the alleged kidnappers say this e-mail will be their last for awhile. a delta flight from la guardia air for the to chicago o'hare made an emergency landing in buffalo, new york. a passengers laptop started smoking. the plane made the stop in buffalo. none of the 53 people on board were hurt. in other national news president obama is cracking down on hackers who threaten national security. on wednesday the the president signed an executive order allowing the treasury department to impose financial sanctions against hackers. the sanctions can be imposed on individuals or groups committing cyber attacks.

the allergy. i've been dealing with a lot of sneezing and runny noses over the last couple of days. we do have spots that are breezy this morning infeuding fairfield out of the north at 21 miles an hour. for the majority of the bay area things are a lot calmer. storm tracker 4 temperatures right now a lot of 50s and 40s. 53 in san francisco. upper 40s in san jose. 44 many in liver mother. 47 in santa rosa. satellite and radar picture we have this ridge of high pressure over us for today and tomorrow. then we will see some changes. upper 60s in downtown san francisco. 73 is your high in san jose. and for the east bay we will see upper 60s for richmond. antioch at 74.

good morning. coming up on 4:30 here are some of the big stories. funeral services for san jose police officer michael johnson will be held at the s.a.p. center in san jose today. officer johnson was killed in

the line of duty last week. he had been with the police department there for 14 years. the funeral procession will begin in lost georgias to -- lost georgias to. a woman break into his house tuesday afternoon and it was caught on video. it's the same woman that later jumped the fence at mineta airport. the homeowner mike made the connection after he saw the woman's picture. governor jerry brown went with water officials to the

arkansas governor hutchenson's desk. but he is refusing to sign the freedom bill until lawmakers make changes. >> this bill simply defines the standard to determine the right balance. >> i think governor hutchenson is rying to strike the right balance between protecting all citizens from all strikes. but again those concerns have not been born out over the last 20 years. >> reporter: governor's desession comes in the wake of an uproar in indiana. that states governor mike pence is facing pressure from businesses, sports associations, and popular sports. associations. >> this is not a democrat or republican issue. this is not a lgbt issue. this is a human rights issue. >> we'll fix this and we will move forward. >> reporter: state lawmakers

worked on those changes late into the night on wednesday. meeting behind closed doors. >> we're working on it. i wouldn't get my hopes up. back here in the bayer a serial thief is on the loose in petaluma. the same man is responsible for all five robberies. >> reporter: the latest of an unusual string of armed robberies happened here on this 7-eleven early tuesday morning and this is the surveillance photo of the suspect. in all five of the robberies this man wore dark clothing and a mask. you can see the similarities in the other pictures of the wanted man. snapped at some of the other crime scenes like the quick stop on east washington street where the man told the clerk he was armed and demanded cash. investigators are also looking into robberies at a gas station and a lucky's pharmacy.

we're back. 4:40 is the time. popular child care website being over run by scammers. >> i definitely know there are scams out there and i just never thought it would happen to me. >> reporter: caroline san francisco state university student is signed up with a care.com. a family that contacts families with care providers. lately it's been a dangerous place for nannies and babysitters looking for work. scammers are trying to take advantage of these job seekers. >> i got an e-mail from a guy saying that he was from canada and going to move to the bay area. he had a wife and a son and he needed care for his son. >> reporter: the guy promised her a job and wanted to communicate with her outside of the care.com system. he started e-mailing and texting her. >> he told me he was going to give me a bonus to show he was good for it.

he waslike okay. he sent me a text for $2,000. >> $2,000. he wanted to take that check and cash it and keep most of it for herself but take a small portion of it and give it to a local real estate agent that he was supposedly working with on acquiring housing for when they moved her. >> and i just called my parents and said this is getting really sketchy. >> reporter: her instinct was right. this is a classic scam. someone sending you a check to cash it and the check they sent is fake. it ends up bouncing and you get stuck dealing with that. caroline says people should feel good about using care.com. but gives this advice. >> it's good through the website but once they e-mail you and text you first instead of going through the care.com messaging system, that is when it gets sketchy. you've got to make sure it goes through the care.com messaging

prosecutors have been investigating whether mendez improperly advocated for the business interests of a florida eye doctor. senator mendez says he has done nothing wrong and will fight those charges. a group of medical aid workers have been cleared to come home. 17 workers were exposed to infected colleagues. a quick stop at a gas station turn into a nightmare for a mother in cleveland. her mother left that car running. someone then jumped into that running car and took off.
