overcast skies and live look outside from our embarcadero camera, overcast describes around much of the bay area this morning but they should be burning off later today. to leave us with a really nice day around the bay. let's take a look at the seven- day forecast. you can see what we are talking about here. highs today ranging from the mid-70s well inland -- or mid- 80s well inland all the way to 58 degrees by the coast and, again, a slight chance of showers middle of the week. want to remind you that you can stay up to date 24/7 with the kron4 mobile app. you can download it today. won't cost you a thing so keep up with the weather forecast with a free mobile app. turning to politics now, the 2016 election still a ways off, presidential campaigning already underway, many of the republican candidates in new hampshire and our political analyst michael yaki joins us to talk about it this morning. 19 candidates in new hampshire? >> 19. you can't even roll the dice. you've got to use a rowlett wheel to -- roulette wheel to
9:17 am
pick one. you have marco rubio, rand paul and ted cruz and then you have jeb bush -- >> we are waiting in the wings. >> yeah. and new hampshire is really more about -- is all about expectations for, i think, chris christie of all people and jeb bush. those two have to do very well in new hampshire, you're going to see them there a lot. new hampshire doesn't make or break. new hampshire, you can't win new hampshire by winning new hampshire but you can lose the nomination if you finish well behind expectations. >> poor showing, yeah. >> because it's all about where people are going to be putting their money very soon and you have a lot of people starting to put a lot of money into these campaigns already. >> so a lot of the candidates were taking potshots not only at each other but as the democrats, president obama and hillary clinton, heard rand paul saying clinton is going to need two planes, one for her entourage and one from her baggage. no big surprise there in what they are starting out and their strategies, is there?
9:18 am
>> interesting because they are -- there's a primary strategy involved here which is appeal to the more conservative, more right wing part of the party so you have people like scott walker bragging about, you know, all of the things he's done, he does a whole litany of things that democrats would start to have their blood boil over but is red meat for the right wing and then the question is can you then turn that into the middle for presidential run because you can't win on that -- >> on the extreme? >> on that side. >> so it will be interesting to see how they all start to do it. christie has already positioned himself as more of a middle type candidate, rand paul doesn't know which way he wants to go. he's trying to be an iconic person. and then you have marco rubio who is trying to be much more of the youthful right, future of the republican party and jeb bush who is sort of not youthful, oldest part of the republican party. he's already had to flip his position on common core standards. he was a big fan of it when he was governor of florida.
9:19 am
all of a sudden now 10 years later he hates it. >> so right now the strategy is from, what you're saying, the strategy is to appeal to the extreme right. >> right. >> to win new hampshire, but then as things go on, you're going to have to sign a new -- >> as someone gets -- and the more the primary drags on, the worse it becomes for a candidate's ability to pivot to the middle so everyone wants to try to get a knockout blow but a lot of people here who are going to raise a lot of money, going to take somewhere between 50 and $100 million for any candidate to break out of the pack and win the nomination, possibly even more if they stay around a little bit longer. >> yeah. >> and some people stay around not because they think they are going to win but because they want to be vice president. you will see that as well. >> well, let's turn to the democratic side, which is at this point hillary clinton. >> yeah. >> going to be very difficult for a lot of voters to say we need a third term of a democratic white house. >> well, that's part of the message you're seeing in new hampshire and part of the message republicans overall is
