good morning. thanks loot for joining us. happening today, the annual race kick off in less than a hour. more than 100,000 runners registered and this year they're hoping to make history and set the world record for most world records set during a road race. we're at the starting line the some of the costumes and what you can expect this morning. >> well, good morning. 103rd. i'm here on howard street. an increase in activity as we go closer and closer to the start of the race. about 50,000 people are signed

up. it starts in howard and bean street with an 8:00 start time this morning. it heads west through san francisco and popular hayes hill. it ends at ocean beach. you never know what you'll find along the coast. each costume tops the next. a very diverse group of people here followed by a farm animal. >> i love the whole experience. i get here early because it's just part of the ritual. >> thinks some people are going to bring forks and knives. >> it's possible. i've been -- well, they might just bite me. >> show me one more time, how does the turkey help? they're running expanded service today to help

accommodate both coming to beta breakers. but once you get down here it's one big party. i can't see what you've got on this morning. hopefully it's a creative costume. you can make it. this race scheduled to start about 1 hour from now. >> all right. thank you. and you know it's interesting that mike has interviewed so many people in his career but i don't think he's ever interviewed a turkey before. that's a first. a look at how the race could affect you around the city this morning. >> well, the race doesn't begin for another hour or so at 8:00 this morning. we're not seeing my major backup or delays. check out the bay bridge. it looks pretty good right now. we have very light traffic conditions heading westbound on interstate 80. do keep in mind the fremont

exit is closed. stay to your left lane and take the harrison exit this morning if you want to get into downtown san francisco. let's take a look at the bridge where you can see here very light traffic condition. getting into the city. no major problems to slow you down. in fact here's a look at the traffic maps. getting across the bay bridge. into oakland and from the north bay as well along the golden gates. things are very good right now. now, of course, getting into the city once that race begins and maneuvering around that race is going to be a mess. into a good portion of the afternoon. a lot of people want to avoid it all together. again, places will be shutdown this morning. but again, getting into the city no major problems. nothing to slow down your ride.

check our your forecast. maybe you are getting ready for beta breakers. live look at the park and we do have cloudy conditions out there. it's cloudy all across the bay area this morning. here's a look at your san francisco day planner for today. it's a cool start. 55 degrees and we're not going to really warm up a whole lot through the afternoon. only getting to 59 by 4:00 p.m. today. we'll see breezes from 5 to 15 miles an hour coming in out of the west this afternoon but again, not a whole lot of warming. in fact, expecting generally mostly cloudy conditions for today. let's break down your forecast for beta breakers. mostly cloudy as you start things off. will be mostly cloudy. temperatures in mid-50s. pretty good riding weather i would say and 10:00 still staying cool in the mid-50s by noon. i think we could see some peaks of sun, of course, that's when all the fun happens after the

building. suspect was arrest just after 11:00 last night. once the hostage scaimed. police say all the money taken from the bank has been recovered. other big news that we're following for you this morning, police have made a second arrest in the shooting death a teenager. how the victims parents now reacting to the police investigation. >> reporter: as the memorial grows where jesse bethel high school stunt was shot to debt thursday, a police lieutenant tells kron4 that they've been working 20 hours shifts to catch the killers. police took a 16-year-old boy into custody. he was booked into the juvenile hall just hours after 19-year- old zachary dole was arrested during a traffic stop, booked on suspicionful murder. >> it makes me feel blessed that they caught him. >> the first arrest.

we're back with national news this morning. amtrak being ordered to expand use of a speed restriction system on philadelphia's northbound rails. this move follows last week's derailment that killed 8 people and injured almost 200 others. the train control system is already being used for southbound trains approaching the curve where tuesday's derailment happened. it applies the brakes if the engineer doesn't slow down a speeding train. the ntsb investigation revealed it sped up. eight people remain in criminal

as you take a look at latest video into the newroom this morning. storm chasers captured this video of a reported tornado near elmer, oklahoma last night. no reports of any injuries. tornado alley very busy. mainly in the midwest. places like chicago, st. paul, rockford, illinois. some strong thunderstorm and more tornadoes. >> they're getting more of the same. >> pretty much. >> let's take you outside. i'm going to take you -- take the weather from here. i'm going to walk back to the computer to take a look at the national picture here. and looks like we're definitely still tracking some severe

weather for parts of midwest. also extending all the way through the texas area as well. so this is a national picture and look at the midwest. you can definitely see it is really -- we're seeing some strong storms. and also illinois. you can see some severe storms from st. louis just east of the dallas area. to here's a look at your national forecast today where you can see again the threat for severe weather. it's for the middle section of the country. extends through minneapolis, chicago, milwaukee, st. louis and also through little rock. travel plans to those locations today. you're flights could be affected in the form of cancellations and delays n. our neck of the woods, very cool conditions today. cloudy skies including a live look at the bridge where we have cloudy condition and it's going to be cool.

national weather. heavy wind sweeping through the midsection this weekend. wichita, kansas, saturday. the drivers having a tough time to getting through deep water. the rain part of a powerful storm system that stretches from texas to minnesota. and annie, this is something that they've been dealing with for the past couple of days and on to today as well? >> yeah. so wichita's done with the storm. they'll dry out. if you're in the upper mississippi valley southward across illinois into arkansas, can expect more scattered severe storms. tornadoes and so this is a storm that we're watching the greatest threat for severe weather is in parts of the midwest like minneapolis and also chicago. we can also see a slight risk for some severe weather for parts of texas and the mississippi valley but see this is a storm that we're watching and quite a few with it.
