temperatures already warming up to the 60-degree mark. temperatures may climb 40-plus degrees for there. we'll have the forecast for your neighborhood straight ahead. good morning, everyone, thanks for joining us. >> we're talking about our big story this morning, and that is bay area weather. we have team coverage this morning. let's go to where the sheet going to be with james fletcher in wall nut creek with more on the temperatures expected there today. james? >> yeah, it's going to be a scorcher of a day today, not just at wall nut creek, bought number of east bay valley locations. we are at the a qualityic center near walnut creek.

it is clear out here, skies are blue, and at some some points the afternoon, it's going to get almost unbelievably hot. right now into the 6:00 hour, already in the mid-60s, and i can tell you it's going to get a whole lot warmer than that. by 8:00, we should be in the low 70s. upper 70s to near 80 by about 11:00, and by noontime, pushing the 90-degree mark, getting up wards of 96 to 97 for the hottest time of day. so we'll be flirting we triple digit temperature nears wall nut creek, and will certainly hit that mark in other parts of the inland east bay. let me paint the picture of how the temperatures goring to develop over the course of the day today. we'll start off with their current hour, 6:00. you can see we have a mix of 60s, and even the potential for are some 70s. in right now in wall nut creek, we're pretty close, and that's near concord on the map. advancing forward in time to noon. you can see by that point

already 80s, and potentially 90- degree weather blankets the bay area. you can see that red there, and once we advance to the afternoon, most locations will be hitting their are maximum temperature at that point, and looking for the possibility of not only 90s, that's a certainty, but triple digit weather. folk nbc the delta, you're likely to see 100 to 101 degrees today. so it is going to be a scorcher of the day, and you're going to want to stay protected. keep safe. here are a few tips. first off, you want to stay hydrated. drink plenty of water, avoid drinking caffeine or alcohol. those are die you receiptics, and if you use the bathroom, it will deplete you of those liquids thaty need. use loose fitting light weight clothing, and don't wear dark colors if you can avoid it. and slow down. stay indoors if you can. avoid any strenuous exercise

antioch 61 degrees, pleasanton 60. another warm location is across the south bay. we have some upper 50s to lower 60s, and across north pay, eastin' east bay shore line, and across the peninsula, temperatures in the 50s as you head out the door. as you know continue into your afternoon, the south bay will continue to work up into the 80s, the closer you are to the water. san jose some lower 90s. mid-90s the farther south you go. moran hill 94 by 3:00 p.m. looking at the peninsula, temperatures will continue to warm up into the mid-70s for san francisco, and looking at some upper 80 to right around 90 across the mid-peninsula. if you want to head to the beach this afternoon, temperatures will warm up to the upper 60s to near 70 with a nice sea breeze. coming up, we're talking about what to expect into tomorrow. i'll have all of those details coming up at 6:15. here is rebecca with your

morning drive. rebecca? >> well, it's getting busier on the roadways, as we kick off the 6:00 hour. this is pretty normal, though, and if you're take it will the bay bridge toll plaza, getting into downtown san francisco is going to take you about 12 minutes to get there, and if you're heading to sfo, it will be about a 25-minute commute for you, if you're catching a plane this morning. switching over to the maps, an accident, this is for your livermore valley commute. not sure if any lanes are blocked. chp is on the way to bring us more details. here is your drive time, it's 34 minutes, getsing toty dublin interchange. when i come back, i'll be checking the rest of your east bay commute. mark? >> firefighters still looking for any hot spots after this huge grass fire broke out yesterday afternoon in the regional park area of antioch, and threaten something homes. firefighters staying on the scene overnight. will tran is there this morning

with an update. will? >> reporter: it's 100% contained this morning, mark, but that doesn't mine it out. it just means the fire no longer spreading opinion basically they put a rope around it, if you want to think overt like that, be where if there is a fire, it's within the rope, but you can see the damage it did. look at the hillside behind me, and how close that fire came to the homes. let's show you the video. this is aerial footage, courtesy of our partnership with abc 7. the fire broke out about 14 hours ago, so about 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon when it was extremely hot in antioch. it took off so fast by the time was over, approximately 540 acres were burned. initially the contra costa county fire protection came out, but they reelized this was going to be a handful, which is why they called other fire departments including cal fire, they did air drops, and late last night, they were able to get the upper hand on this, and that's great, because they did all of the heavy lifting when

the sin came down, when it was cooler or less windy. of course many homes had to be evacuated. approximately 100 homes, those people were told to get out for their safety. and then late last night, they were able to return. we caught up with them, and here is what they had to say about the fire danger. >> it was a lot of machinery, be a lot of equipment, a loft technology involved in fighting the fire, and the guy with the helicopter with the bag of water, i mean, he was going back and forth from -- petaluma is right over the hill. >> i was frantic, concerned about our whole neighborhood. >> for every one of them that have helped, i want to thank all of them for doing a great job putting this fire out. i believe they saved all of our homes. >> reporter: and if we can head back out live now, you can see the blackened hill side over my right shoulder, the fire department, they will continue to be here throughout today to make sure that the fire is completely out, be that it doesn't come back to haunt them in the future.

the great news is the fire department, because they jumped all over this, approximately 200 firefighters, be they jumped all over this, and theying managed to save all of the homes and no injuries, mark. i'll try to get more sound from people who are getting up, but it's been a very long night for them, and so far they're still sound asleep. back to you. >> all right, will, thanks for are the update. firefighters around the bay area remain on high alert today. cal fire is calling in reserve firefighters because a lot of their resources are on the move, with one strike team up near south lake tahoe fighting that fire. here in the bay area, firefighters are making sure everything is ready to go on their fire engines, and weed chopping road crews have a water tanker standing by just in case. and starting on monday, cal fire is suspending all personal its for outdoor burning to try and reduce any risk of wildfires. firefighters telling people to

be prepared, make sure you remove dead and dying schedule surgerytation, a 100 foot defensible space around your home, and mow your grass no more than 4 inches tall and fields. just some of the tips to try and prevent wildfires from happening around your home. >> and still ahead, a controversial bill that would require public school children in california to get vaccinated. could take a step forward today. what still needs to happen for that to become law.

there are more than 400 lightning rods in the bay area that connect the tower to its base below. four of these rods were removed for test, some because they failed crack testing. cracks were found in two of those rods. the chief engineer says the cracks can't be seen by the naked eye, and more testing is needed to determine if this is a significant problem. >> it's important to understand that no one should jump to a conclusion that when people thing of or use the word crack, they think of some massive thing that you can slide your

finger in. that's not what we're talking about here. we're taking about, how i would say, imperfections. >> a local corrosion expert said the cracks could mean that cracks could break with normal wear and tear. taking a look, the debate over the confederate flag makes its way to the bay area. we'll take you to one neighborhood where the flag is flying high.

as you make your way out the door into the afternoon, we're talking about some warmer temperatures for the east bay shore line. oakland 78 by the afternoon. some mid-to-upper 80s for the rest of the east bay shore line. however, the cool spots will mainly stay across richmond and berkeley with the mid-to-upper 60s. the rest of your forecast for the afternoon looks pretty good, but hot and dry across inland spot. some triple digit heat will be possible, stretching from pleasanton to livermore. by the afternoon for the south bay, and upper are 80s to right around 90, and also looking at some mid-70s across the peninsula with some upper 80s to right around 90 degrees for the north bay. we're going to continue on with hot weather into tomorrow, but not as hot. we're talking about mid-90s inland with upper 70s for other locations on friday.

that's the rest of the bay, and across the beaches, some lower 70s in store. we're talking about your weekend forecast coming up, here is rebecca with your morning drive. >> the morning drive is so far so good. as far as hot spots, none to report on any freeways or bridges at thus time. look who decided to make a little appearance. our little friend there getting ready for the hot weather. it's going to be about a 20- minute drive time getting into downtown san francisco if you are getting to the toll plaza. the traffic is backed up into the mcarthur maze. it will be sluggish across the upper deck into san francisco. the golden gate bridge that's pretty empty at this point. and the san mateo bridge also looks pretty good. it's getting a little busier, but through drive time still pretty much the same. it's just about 15 minutes from 88 and hayward -- 880 & high

that would require sir yale all public school students to be vaccinated. governor brown has not said if he will sign the bill. the bill aims to increase emmanuel rates in the wake of a measles outbreak that was linked to disneyland in stem. under the proposal, only children with serious health issues would be able to opt out of school-mandated vaccines. >> the state stream court is set to determine today whether if v some video games are acting as gambling bans, but some say the sweepstakes have similar outcomes to lottery vending machines. ♪ ♪

as you can see here by noon, we're the 90s, and we're looking at maximum temperature around 96 to 97. so we're going to get real close to that 100 mark here in walnut creek. as we look at our zone forecast for the inland east bay, you will see exactly what i'm talking about. san ramon down through the san ramon valley. just a quick look at some of

the symptoms for heat exhaustion. if you have cold clammy skin, if you're sweating a lot, can't seem to stop, that's a sign that you might be suffering from heat exhaustion. also, too, if you're experiencing nausea or dizziness, that's also another sign. you want to drink plenty of water, and get indoors, try to loosen any of that clothing that you have, and take off any clothing you can, and use a damp cloth to bring down your skin temperature. if you begin to vomit, or pass out, or notice somebody who is experiencing these symptoms, you want to call 911. because at that point, you're on the verge of heatstroke. and that's a whole different matter. a lot of folks will be looking for that this afternoon, as we're expecting hot democrats all around. we have michelle breaking the forecast. >> good morning, james, waking up to mild temperaturation cross much of the bay, looking at inland spots, where james

said they're dealing with some low-to-mid 60s across the bay, and along the coast, waking up to mid-50s this morning. if you like the heat, head inland, because temperatures will easily warm up to 90, and that's just during the lunch hour, and like james mentioned, upper 90s to triple digit heat this afternoon. and then by 3:00, 85 will be the daytime high, and across the coast, it will be some nice beach weather. temperatures will continue to warm up into the mid-to-upper 60s with a nice sea breeze. here is rebecca with traffic. >> well, the sun is shining at the bay bridge tomorrow plaza. this is going to be a bit of a weight if you are making your way to the tolls. the traffic is backed up into the mcarthur maze. once you get past the meeting lights that were turned on about an hour ago. it's going to be bumper to bumper. you're looking at about a 20- minute drive time into the city. the san mateo bridge getting

easier on the span. it will be about 18 minutes now, going westbound on 92. reporting of a stall in the eastbound direction, right at the toll plaza blocking the right lane. it will be 10 minutes from end to in the end both directions. and your drive time in san jose because of a crash at saratoga avenue blocking the lane, looks like 15 minutes from 101 to 85 in the northbound direction. firefighters are keeping an eye out for hot spots after a grass fire broke out in the regional park area yesterday. we carried this for you live on the kron 4 morning news. containment is now sat a hundred percent. it burned 533 acres, took three fire agencies involved to get the fires out.

homes were threatened, but no buildings were damaged, and no one was injured. meantime, evacuation orders have been lifted for people living near this 350-acre brush fire in santa clarita in southern california. look at how close it came to homes there. fire crews are still dealing with hot spots that started after 1 in the afternoon. about 450 firefighters were battling it for the ground. one firefighters was injured. containment at 50%. new this morning, the national guard is investigating a crash involving an f-16 fighting falcon. the military plane crashed last night in southern arizona near douglas. the pilot with the arizona air national guard was the only person on board the jet during the night training mission. the pilots condition and identity are not known at this time. and a maximum security prison guard now the second person arrested in connection with those two escaped inmates

in new york who are still on the loose. the guard is believed to have delivered frozen meat with tools hidden inside to the two inmates before they escaped. gene palmer will be arraigned today any charges of promoting prison contraband and other sources. his attorney said he'll plead not guilty. inmates david sweat and richard matt were reported missing on june 6th, and the certain for them continues. and the defense in the james holmes trial will begin today. holmes has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. the defense will argue that he has a classic case of schizophrenia. the prosecutors have already called their own doctors and points to detailed plans within holmes's notebook, which they will use again during cross- examination. and one man learns the hard way you don't mess with the president. what president obama did when he was heckled at the white house.
