learning. alecia? >> reporter:the jailbreak investigation is now in full swing, looking into how richard matt and david sweat hatched their escape plan. >> reporter:sweat has reportedly told police about a practice run the night before the escape. >> reporter:matt was shot and killed in these woods friday. >> reporter:this graphic image which we have blurred showing him after he was shot in the head. >> reporter:sweat was shot twice in the torso sunday during his capture. he is now hospitalized -- and talking to investigators. >> reporter:he's told them that he and matt began sawing through the back walls of their cells roughly six months before they staged their escape. >> reporter:and that the night before the escape, he slipped through the opening shinnied down five flights of piping to the tunnels beneath the prison and emerged from a manhole cover two blocks from the prison. and then returned to his cell investigators are looking at whether guards on the honor block were sleeping during their shifts, which would have allowed the escapees to easily leave their jail
