this is the bay area's new's station. kron 4 news weekend starts now. good morning. welcome to kron 4 news weekend. i'm marty gonzalez. a lot of events going on in the bay area this morning. one offer the biggest is the annual san francisco marathon. the first event happening right now is the marathon. you see video of the first wave of runners making their way down. this was about an hour ago. the race is sold out as usual. 25,000 runners taking part. and this year is the first year that the marathon will also serve as qualifying for the u.s. olympic team. i want to show you a look at the route map. because several roads are closed this morning in san francisco. including most of the

embarkadaro. a live look from the golden gate bridge. runners making their way across the bridge. the marathon route will cross the bridge twice. 26.2 miles for the runners. some runners also running a 5k fun run as well. those road closures that we told you about maybe causing some problems if you're heading to at&t park for game three of the bay bridge series between the giants and a's later today. the giants looking for a sweep after beating oakland by a final of 2-1 on saturday. tim hudson will be on the hill for the giants. first pitch set at 1:05 this afternoon. a reminder to give yourself extra time to get to the ball park. if that's not enough. let's go to the south bay now. today is the third and final day of the gilroy garlic festival. 100,000 people expected to attend the festival over the course of the weekend.

it opens at 10:00 this morning. closes at 7:00. give yourself extra time. if you want to know how to get there, follow your nose. it looks like it's terrific weather for the runners from what i'm told. >> yes, we have cloudy conditions. keeping temperatures on the cold side. and that's great if you're going to be working up a sweat during that marathon this morning, marty. and we have a lot going on all across the bay. a live look at the golden gate bridge this morning. you can see all those runners going across and some all ready going the other way too. so some people are super fast. and we do have cloudy conditions. i do expect those clouds to peal back though throughout the later morning hours making way for more sunshine for the afternoon. oakland looks like this, if you're out in the east bay today, right now we're in the 60s. we'll get to around upper 60s at lunch time in the afternoon. 73 degrees at 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. the winds will pick up for the afternoon. that's good news.

the big berkeley kite festival goes on this afternoon as well. expecting more sunshine by around lunch time or so. visibility right now, down to three mile visibility in santa rosa this morning. three mile many half-moon bay. but no issues for sfo oakland and san jose airports. temperatures, it's cool. great conditions for the runners. 58 58 degrees in san francisco. 63 in oakland. low 60s in san jose. 62 in livermore. mid 50s in antioch. and we're talking mid to upper 50s for santa rosa and nevado. highs will be cooler for some locations but below average and very comfortable for a lot of locations. 84 is the high in livermore. 83 in antioch. upper 70s in san jose. low 80s in sunnyvale. 71 in san mateo. and we're talking 80s for friends in the north bay. when i come back, we have a lot to talk about. including the gilroy garlic

festival. and we'll take a look at your baseball forecast as well as the giants take on the a's this afternoon at around 1:05 today. let's go to some breaking news now. i'm going to talk about a couple traffic alerts that are in place this morning. we'll start with a fatal accident in san francisco. this is actually a fatal accident northbound 101 at sierra point parkway. a fatal accident where investigators are on scene right now. so all lanes are blocked this morning. and the estimated time of opening is unknown according to the chp. this is again northbound 101. just south of the sister city area. just south of the sierra point parkway, northbound 101, all lanes are closed. i want to tell you about another accident we're following for you this morning. this is in the east bay in the berkeley area. an accident on eastbound 80 at

ashby avenue. the right lanes are blocked right now due to a multivehicle accident. again right lanes are blocked at the eastbound 80 ashby avenue exit. it looks like right now, because traffic is so light, it's sunday morning, there are no major back ups or delays as of now. we'll keep you posted on when these roads are reopened. marty? all right. thank you so much. new this morning, all lanes of highway 1 in pacifica now reopened after a deadly accident saturday evening. we first broke the story to you last night on kron 4 news at 11:00. the accident happened just before 7:00 last night. north of crestby drive. it was a head-on collision. both drivers were taken to the hospital. one driver died from his injuries. the highway was closed and didn't reopen until early this morning. the cause of the crash is being investigated as a dui incident. firefighters are pick aing good progress on the wildfire

that's burning near lake berryessa. it's now 55% contained and evacuations have been lifted. kron 4's scott rates hat the latest. >> we're working down the west side of the fire. coming around the south. and we're currently in the process of tieing in the south direct line all the way around the fire. >> listening closely to cal fire officials and local agencies giving them an update on the rag fire that's now 55% contained. >> some extreme fire behavior initially. >> reporter: all evacuations in the area have been lifted and people's lives are returning to normal. one of the main concerns, how people were notified over the evacuations. their parents living on a trailer on his property were not properly notified because the house appeared to be empty. >> the requests to leave went out around 6:00 in the evening. and they were there until past

with meteorologist. >> good morning marty. a lot going on today around the bay area. a live look at the bay bridge this morning. and we're waking up to cloudy conditions for oakland, emeryville, and berkeley, and it looks like we'll see more sunshine for the afternoon. here's also a live look at the golden gate bridge right now where we can still see those marathoners for the san francisco marathon going across the bridge this morning under cloudy conditions and some patchy fog. temperature's really nice. upper 50s. great conditions for the runners out there. good luck to every one of them. here's a look at the san francisco day planner. upper 50s. cloudy conditions. by lunch time we'll hit around 63 today. we'll stay cool. 64 is the high at 2:00 p.m. the winds pick up for the afternoon. look for a westerly breeze. 10 to 0 miles per hour. let's check out your forecast for the gilroy garlic festival. i'll be there later today. sunny and mild conditions by

lunch time. temperature around 74. low 80s today. that's going to feel comfortable. but it will be breezy in the afternoon. temperatures now, 63 in oakland. low 60s in san jose. wind speeds at fairfield and concord, we'll add to the breezes this afternoon. east bay shore highs today, 70s for oakland. low 70s in union city. very similar to yesterday. maybe a little cooler for some spots. 84 is the high in livermore. low 80s in walnut creek. 80s in martinez. the warm up really begins tomorrow. low 90s expected inland. upper 90s close to 100 degrees on tuesday. so get ready for really hot weather. i'll let you know how long the hot weather lasts and also when the humanity hume -- humidity comes back to the bay area. the soda industry is fighting back against the city of san francisco. they've filed a federal lawsuit against the city to do away

with an ordinance that regulates the advertising of sugary drinks. >> all of the advertisements for these in the city of san francisco is going to have to come with a warning. that's not going to come without a fight. the american beverage association along with two advertising groups have filed a federal lawsuit against the city of san francisco. they say its law requiring a health warning on advertisements of sugary drinks is unconstitutional. they say the city is trying to insure that there's no free marketplace of ideas but instead only a government imposed one sided public dialogue on the topic. the city isn't surprised by this move. >> it's not surprising at all. it's just like the cigarette companies for many years challenging any effort to try to protect community health from cigarettes. the soda industry fights every effort that communities engage

in to try to protect public health. >> a board of supervisors requiring billboards to include this warning, drinking beverages with added sugars contributes to obesity, diabetes, and tooth decay, this is a message from the city and county and san francisco. the city also now bans soda advertising on its property. things like bus shelters. none of this bodes well for sugary beverage companies but the city says it's more than prepared for the suit. in san francisco, emily turner, kron 4 news. mourners gathered for sandra bland's funeral. the 28-year-old was found hanging in a texas jail cell two week ace go. her death remains under investigation after video-her arrest was released last week showing a police officer threatening her with a taser. however, autopsy results say that bland took her own life. now her family's calling for an independent autopsy.

oh my god. this is unbelievable. unbelievable. unbelievable. there's a fire going on right outside my room. >> take a look at this. a scary scene on the strip in las vegas. that's where a big fire took place at the luxury cosmopolitan hotel. the flames broke out on the outdoor pool deck yesterday afternoon. a lot of the guests pulling out phones to record what was going on. the smoke could be seen for miles in the desert. cabanas and imitation palm trees helped fuel the fire. the entire 3,000 room resort was evacuated. but no one was seriously hurt. and there's still no cause or no word this morning on exactly what caused that fire. nasa's kepler space observatory spotted earth's bigger older cousin. it's in a zone of a store similar to our sun. for more on this interstellar

discovery, here's cnn's joe. >> hello earth. this is your long lost cousin in a search for a world like ours a breakthrough for stargazers. this is kepler 452 b. this distant relative, a little larger, 60% bigger to be exact. and more than a billion years older. but it's the distinct similarities between these planets which have nasa scientists extremely excited. it's located within the so called habitable zone. they sit in an area around a sun-like star where water can exist on a planet's surface, its year, 385 days long. 20 days longer than our own. and there's every chance the surface is rocky. all these qualities adding to a potential recipe to brood life.

with volvo. we're back on kron 4 news weekend. 68,000 soccer fans jammed the stadium to watch manchester united beat barcelona. it's part of a summer exhibition series featuring two of the most popular teams in the world. we're shown how this battle of soccer titans entertains the fans. >> reporter: this preseason game packed out levi stadium. although manchester united kept the lead after scoring the first goal within minutes of kick off, barcelona fans believe their team played just as hard. >> even without some of their best players they still played hard. >> this is a message for all the fans, we are back. >> reporter: whether they were on the winning or losing team, fans were out at levi stadium celebrating soccer. >> my team did not win.

breaking news this morning. all somebody lanes of highway 101 remain closed. >> we are getting word from chp that they've closed all the lanes in the northbound 101 direction. this is near south san francisco. this is at sierra point parkway. or just south of sierra point. according to chp, they are on scene right now investigating this crash involving a car and

a pedestrian on highway 101. so they have issued a sigalert due to this collision which again occurred south of the sierra point parkway off ramp. so the northbound lanes of the highway are closed. and we are seeing some minor back ups and delays here indicated by the red. and there is no estimated time on opening of those lanes yet. but when we do get word, we'll let you know, another accident we're following, this one in the east bay. this is actually in the berkeley area. eastbound interstate 80 at the ashby avenue. where the right lanes are closed. but right now because traffic is so light at this hour, we're not seeing major back ups or delays on 80 yet. but the right lanes are closed. and this is from what we understand, due to an accident involving multiple vehicles. let's change gears and take a look at your forecast for your sunday. we are looking forward to a warm up headed this way. today should be fairly

comfortable where we're going to see comfortable conditions for a lot of locations. we're going to call it warm to mild. i want to take you first live outside to show you the conditions where we are seeing cloudy conditions, pretty much all across the bay area. here's a live look at the golden gate bridge where you see the runners involved in the san francisco marathon under cloudy conditions but it is cool. temperatures are in the upper 50s. so great for those runners. a live look at sfo. a little blue sky this morning. we're seeing partly sunny skies for sfo. no delays on arriving flights for sfo oakland and san jose airports. speaking of san jose, let's check out the day planner for today, right now in the low 60s under partly cloudy conditions. a little more sunshine, by lunch time, 74. low 80s in the afternoon today around 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and then we'll be in the upper 70s by 6:00 this evening and the winds pick up as well. in san francisco, 60, 63 in oakland. 57 in santa rosa. and our future cast 4 showing

us temperatures will be warming up to mild conditions for a lot of locations. by lunch time, we'll see generally 70s for a good portion of the bay area. and then by 3:00 p.m., we'll see temperatures get to around 70s and 80s. i think for the coast today, expect more cloud cover i think those clouds will be persisting along the coast. mostly cloudy conditions for you. and don't forget the winds will pick up. i'll let you know how that could effect the baseball game today taking place at at&t park coming up in my next weather report. it's been more than a week since anyone has seen a beloved san francisco teacher who vanished in the eldorado forest. kron 4's kate shows us how search efforts are ramping up. >> there's so many people out there looking for him right now that we are so confident that we're going to find him. >> she's at ed is at home in

the woods. >> for ten days he takes students backpacking for ten days in the wilderness. and they have to pack everything with them. >> he was last seen in this thick section of the eldorado forest. last friday he parted ways with a friend while riding his blue motorbike through the rock creek trail system. no one's seen him since. >> there are numerous, nasty trails, that are steep, they're on the edge of the hillside. and they're very narrow. so the area is very dangerous. >> that tough terrain has hurt search efforts. a chp helicopter flew over the area today but the trees are too thick to see anyone below. and worst, he's diabetic. >> he's at home in this land. but we're worried about his medical state. >> their family is helping with the search party. there are now more than 50 people looking. but so far, no one has seen ed.

>> he's just a very disciplined, responsible person. and you know, i know that he wouldn't just drop off the face of the earth without a good reason. >> i'm hoping for a miracle. >> reporting in san francisco, kate, kron 4 news. another wildfire is burning in northern california this morning. it's in nevada county. it's threatening nearly 200 homes. it's forced the evacuation of some homes in the area. that blaze broke out about 2:30 yesterday afternoon. about 45 miles northeast of sacramento. so far, it's burned more than 4,000-acres with no containment this morning. the official cause of the fire is still under investigation. but investigators say they're looking for a car that was in the area where the fire started. right now it's unclear how that car maybe connected to this fire. saltier water from the bay area is pushing into parts of the delta, invading portions of the estuary. river flows in the delta

usually pushback saltier water but because river levels are low, more bay area water is getting in. earlier this year, federal and state water officials had reg regulators weaken standards to hold back more bay water but the standards have been exceeded in part of the sacramento and san juaquin rivers. a 21 yeatman and a park employee are still missing. isaac disappeared last week at the park. there's a picture of him provided by the park. he was backpacking with a group of friends last thursday. that's when he apparently was swept down river by a strong current. friends tried to pull him back to shore but they couldn't. park rangers have been using helicopters, dog teams and searching by horse back and on foot. in world news this morning, three people are dead following a small plane crash in a tokyo

suburb. tokyo fire department says the crash happened moments after departure setting buildings and cars on fire. the authorities say two people on board and one woman who lived in the area were killed. at least two people were injured and as of now it's not clear what caused the plane to go down. still ahead on kron 4 news weekend, in this morning's edition of dine and dish. we're going to take you to the south bay home of two world champion hotdog heaters. and we're taking this live look outside, golden gate bridge, you can see the over cast conditions, perfect running weather for those taking part in the san francisco marathon.

runners who are taking part in a 5k are leaving their starting spot. and starting a 5k fun run along fisherman's warf. all in all a lot of activity along san francisco's waterfront as we take a live look at the golden gate bridge. and here with the forecast is meteorologist annie. >> you mentioned the 5k getting under way. the ultra marathoners, the ones who are doing 50 some miles, they started at midnight and they're just arriving and finishing up. >> and they're running two marathons, right? that's so crazy. i didn't know there were ultra marathoners doing that. hats off to them. here's a live look at the golden gate bridge. we're seeing cloudy and foggy conditions for all the runners this morning. and temperatures are actually very comfortable this morning for all those runners in the upper 50s to low 60s. livermore also looking for a nice day for you. still below average. i don't think anyone's complaining quite yet. we're looking at 62 right now.

traffic map. this is the northbound 101 direction. hp is there this morning investigating a fatal collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. on 101 near south san francisco. so an issue has been issued. and this occurred just south of the sierra point parkway. the northbound lanes of 101 are closed at the parkway off ramp. all northbound lanes have been blocked. and the incident was first reported at 5:20 this morning and they don't know yet when they're going to reopen those lanes. we'll keep you posted. i'm tracking another accident. this is the in the east bay on eastbound 80 at ashby avenue. we are seeing a little bit of black up and delay now. an hour ago it was looking fine but we are now seeing some delays on the eastbound direction. do keep that in mind.

a multicar accident in the east bay. we just got word that the time on when to reopen the roadway along eastbound 80 at the ashby avenue exit will be around noontime today. so still at least a couple of hours from now. this is again eastbound where a severe traffic alert remains in effect for this area where the right lanes are still blocked due to an accident involving several vehicles. drivers are expected to -- are advised to expect delays in this area. we are already seeing here on the traffic sen -- because the right lanes are blocked. the estimate time will be at noon. we'll keep you posted on any new information or any changes.

880 at around 1:00 in the morning. >> there were six cars involved in that collision scene and once it was stabilized they took over that collision investigation. the police officers returned to patrolling the city. >> about an hour later lieutenant robert mcman news says shp -- they heard gunshots. they saw a car parked on the right-hand shoulder of the freeway just past the overcrossing and they drove up there to investigate. found a person and that person that they tried to save was later pronounced dead at the scene. this is the first homicide of the year and that it's clear that the gunshot wounds were not self-infliblghted no. other passengers were inside the car and police don't have a description of the shooter. >> at this time police won't release any information on the victims only that their identities will most likely be released on monday.

we did have that 101 fatal accident throughout the morning show and the good news here is that the lanes have reopened. earlier the chp did shut down the northbound lanes since around 5:30 this morning but again all lanes have reopened at the sierra point parkway this morning so keep that in mind. looks like right now traffic isn't too bad here on 101. in fact the sensors are show agrippa on 101 so no major delays but there have reports of slowing down still in this area. another accident this morning is the accident on eastbound 80 at ashby avenue. the right lanes are scheduled

winters in yolo county scott rates kron4 news. new this morning all lanes of highway 1 in pacificca now open again after a deadly accident saturday evening. we first broke you the story saturday night on kron4 news at 11. you are looking at video from the scene. the accident happened just before 7 last night. police say it was a head-on collision. both drivers were taken to the hospital. one of the drivers died from his injuries. highway one was closed through the night and did not reopen until early this morning. the crash is being investigated as a dui incident. chrysler is expected to be hit with a $100 million fine for violating safety laws. an official announcement is expected tomorrow. the company is accused of failing to notify customers about the recalls and delay of distributing parts. earlier this month chrysler recalled 11 million vehicles

all morning lodge we've been telling you about a deadly crash on highway 101. a person was hit and killed on the 101 freeway in south san francisco. joining us now to give us more information is officer dan russo. good morning. >> good morning. how are you sir. >> good i was wondering if you could fill us in on how exactly this crash happened? >> well i have some details on it at approximately 5:19 this morning our dispatch got reports of a car that was stalled in the number one lane of northbound 101, a black honda. our units responded out there and while they responded they got a call there was possibly a body in the road way. our units did find a body laying in the number one lane of southbound 101. how the body got from northbound to southbound is unknown at this time. our units shut down the entire

freeway to do our investigation. at 7:35:00 a.m. they were able to open up the number four lane and at 7:50 a.m. they were able to reopen all the lanes. it was a male in his late 30s. he was pronounced deceased at the scene and it's unknown to know if alcohol is a factor or not. >> it seems like the person who was in that car decided to cross the freeway on foot, is that correct? >> it sounds like he got out of his car for an unknown reason and unfortunately was struck by another vehicle. >> did the driver of the other vehicle that person has stopped or you are still looking for that person? where does that stand at this point? >> correct. the driver of the other vehicle did stop and cooperate at this point. >> so right now the big

>> thank you. now onto more bay area news this morning. the soda industry fighting back. this after the city approved a new ordinance that requires warning labels on sugary drink advertisements. emily turner with the details. >> all of the advertisements for these in the city of san francisco is going to have to come with a warning but that's not going to come without a fight. >> the american beverage association along with advertising groups have filed a federal lawsuit against the city of san francisco. it's law requiring a health warning on advertisements of sugary drinks is unconstitutional. they say the city is trying to ensure there is no free marketplace of ideas but instead only a government imposed one sided public dialogue on the tup topic. >> it's not surprising at all. it's like the cigarette company for many years challenge any effort to try to protect community health from

breaking news we continue to follow an officer involved shooting near san francisco airport. here's what we know at this hour. that shooting was reported at 7:03 on san bruno avenue underneath the highway 380 over pass. again near sfo. we have a reporter at the scene. we are going to try to get a report from that person coming up from our reporter in the next half hour or so. the other big news we continue to follow a lot of events going on around the bay area. what you need to know before you leave the house. so the san francisco marathon is under way if you are coming into the city you can expect delays. closed until 3 this afternoon. you are taking a look at video of runners on it earlier this morning. and here's video of the marathoners crossing the golden gate bridge. it all kicked off about 5:30 this morning. about 25,000 runners expected

pole and once he crashed it into the light pole he got out, changed his sweater and took off. police started following him and he instead tried to lunge at the police officer telling the police officer to shoot him and the cop fired one shot that missed him initially and the suspect went out and tried car jacking a victim's car. police thought the victim was actually with the suspect and told him don't do it and so the victim not knowing what to do put his hands up in the air. the suspect ended up jumping out of the car seeing as the victim wasn't going to do anything. got out of the car, started running across the freeway trying to car jack other cars and the police officer ended up getting into another confrontation with him. he had a backpack with him is what the chief was saying the entire time in one hand and the

other hand was obstructed so the officer had no idea if he had a gun. at this time they don't suspect he did but he kept telling the officer to shoot him so they don't know if he was trying to do a suicide by doppler or not. but at this point he's the only person that was injured. he got shot once in the abdomen and now he's in the hospital. police are still interviewing witnesses. the victim of the car jacking is still here sitting in his car. we are going to try to get some video. the car that was crashed, sha that stolen vehicle is parked miles away from here so this happens to be a big scene of some sorts because getting here was such an issue because all the roads are blocked off. so that guy is notch in the hospital. police are still intervery muching witnesses. the police officer will be the last person interviewed once they-- >> we are going to have to cut in because we are out of time. we'll have a full complete
