to dave spar. >> good morning everybody. it looks like an ominous start. we're used to seeing it in the hours, but very late overnight just a few hours ago the moon is popping out. this marine layer mixed out pretty well, but as you can see it across the open bay bridge it has released temporarily. we still have some of the marine layer hanging around just a bit, mixing out fairly quickly in the day for today, at least in the forecast to do so. the news is posing some problem, which we'll mention in a second. temperatures mid-50s to upper 50s over the far east bay because of the radiational cooling. upper 50s covers the upper peninsula. a little chilly in parts of north bay. in the south end of the bay 57 going on for san jose. with this marine layer that is still flexing its muscles at the last minute here posing some problems. we have some of the delays there about 45 minutes, 48- minute delay. just check with your local airlines to see if there is any problem with that.

more details and the rest of your weekend forecast next week. >> all right, thank you. let's get to the news this morning. a bay area musician set to perform at the music festival is pulled from the line up after being detained by san francisco police. two others are accused of selling festival wristbands. police were acting on a tip with an employee with planet entertainment. the artist had no control of the wristbands and was not happy by the way he was treated by police. >> you should really recheck your policies on how to treat people. when a guy confesses right next to me that, you know what i sold these tickets, why are you detaining me? why? from this intern of mine confesses right to their faces. it was me, i put the ad on craig's list, i'm -- craigslist, i'm sorry. what do you need me for? let me go and do my show. why do you handcuff me and

stick me in the patty wagon? i'm not a criminal, i'm an artist, a husband, a father, a person that goes in to the streets to play music. >> all three men detained were cited by police. meantime the outside lands festival will wrap up today. tens of thousands of people are expected to cram in to golden gate park. some of the biggest names of music have grazed our stage so far. speaking to fans at day two of the festival. >> reporter: the long trek to golden gate park. the wait in long lines to get in worth a pretty penny. to dawn the line. and catch what is becoming one of the most popular outdoor music festivals in the united states. >> can't go wrong that it will be the black keys, elton john for sure and maybe the cold war kids. >> some people like this guy, sprinting through the crowd

jumped the gates to sneak in. >> we have them everywhere and plain clothed officers. >> after two failed attempts, they were eventually caught and thrown out that a special chip embedded in wristbands this year also putting scalpers out of business. >> and that we would have 20, 25 scalpers on out there trying to sell these bands. now we found two. people from all walks of life creating memories. >> it is fun and with amazing people and that the damage here is amazing. and in san francisco, kron4 news. >> now to this disturbing news out of texas this morning where they would say that five children and three adults were found dead inside a home. a man who sparked that shootout with deputies is under arrest

this morning. it all started at 9:00 last night at a home in suburban houston. deputies that were there on a welfare check when they spotted the bodies through the window, forcing their way inside the house, leading to a shootout. the man surrendered an hour later. happening today, a special pre-game ceremony at the coliseum in oakland, honoring fallen police sergeant scott lunger shot and killed during the traffic stop last month. the legend and hall of famer will be catching some of the ceremonial first pitch from sergeant lungars's father. his own baseball team the tri- valley a's will also be on the field during the national anthem. pre-game ceremonies begin 20 minutes before they take on the houston astros at 1:05 today. new this morning another u.s. forest service firefighter has been killed, hit by a tree

while battling the wildfire in the lake tahoe area. happening between the lake tahoe basin unit and the national forest. last month david ruhl died of carbon monoxide poisoning while fighting a wildfire in the modoc national forest. this comes after all evacuation orders have been lifted as crews are gaining more ground with the help of the cooler weather that we've been having. the blaze is 75% contained today burning through 109 square miles of land in three california counties. happening today the 22nd annual festival wraps up in san francisco this weekend. more than 150,000 expected to take part in this year's event known as one of the largest filipino american celebrations in the country. this year's theme is home away from home. yesterday a parade that started at the civic center where

let's go ahead and take a live look outside. the conditions are clearing there a little bit with heavier overcast this morning. >> it's a cat-and-mouse kind of game there. all of a sudden they would be coming in to the pacific, it's not completely gone here. but the clear picture across most of the bay, that we have seen previous mornings like this, getting a little relief in terms of temperatures, but also looking nicely. this will get improved. what happens is that the sun pops out and warms up the ground to start the engine to mix out the layers, doing a good job. check out the temperatures, it is the cooler spots in the east bay because of clear skies, drier air is the radiational

cooling game that we would talk about. upper 50s. although that up to santa rosa about 49. a little cool in some spots to be had this morning with a day planner for you. 58 going on along the immediate coast. but 60 going on for the temperature for us. 78 by the afternoon high. meanwhile the inland locations getting up to 86. again, cloud cover, focused on the morning part of your day. that should mix out by 10:00 or 11:00 a.m. now we do want to know about the airport delays coming out of san francisco about 45 to 48 minutes, check your local airlines to see what's going on. there oakland you're clear as well as san jose. that's good there. a little closer inspection of the bay area temperatures, along the bay area, the east bay. 72 in alameda and it looks like 76 for oakland. berkeley at 76. richmond at 72. meanwhile down to the peninsula, we'll see about 64 going on for ocean beach, 71

for san francisco, san bruno at 72. again maybe having some of the fog issues as you get closer to the airport. again, pal alto, 80 for redwood city. for the far east bay, temperatures will pop in some locations, livermore is running away at 90 and they tend to happen there with a lot of sunshine, populated by the mid to upper 80s you can find for the inland readings with a look at your all-important forecast as we would see the numbers in the 60s. lower 70s getting in here and oh what a warm up that we would have. warming up to about 96 it looks like in some spots by the time we get to next weekend. you can always get more information online on kron4. thank you. new this morning a hit-and-run crash that leaves seven people including two small children critically injured in los angeles. that the driver got out of his car and ran from the scene in hollywood last night. emergency officials say that the victims range in age one month to 50 years of age. they believe that speed and alcohol played a role in that

crash. intense moments for passengers on board. after the pilot was forced to make an emergency landing, caught in the hailstorm on friday night, damaging their nose gear and cracked that windshield. it was headed to salt lake city, what was forced to land at denver international airport. passengers were understandably terrified. >> this was the scariest ten minutes of my life. >> we went around the corner, from the window, you could see the shattered windshield, kind of all over the engine where lightning had struck and you can see the noses of the plane and what it was missing. >> i thought to myself when it is happening, have i told everybody that i love them? and that as soon as i realized that i had done that, it's like i'm all right. everything will be okay. >> well the faa is now looking in to the incident. one person was taken to the hospital at their own request. the fallout continues for

donald trump. saturday we told you that he was uninvited to the conservative gathering in atlanta this weekend and that is after comments that he made about the woman that fox news anchor. andy rose with our immediate partner cnn has the story. i disinvited donald trump. >> news that presidential candidate donald trump would not be allowed to attend saturday's red state gathering met with a mixture of boos and cheers. withdrew trump's invitation following comments made about gop debate moderator megan kelly. >> she gets out and starts asking me all sorts of ridiculous questions. you could see that there was blood coming out of her eyes or whatever. >> the republican front runner reacted to the snub with his usual canter saying political correctness is killing our country.

>> let's be clear the california drought is bad, but it is good to know that at least it is not damaging everyone's business, specifically the ones who are not affected by the water woes are the ones who farm in it. and there is a silver lining to the clouds that would refuse to rain on drought-stricken california, as it comes on the half shelf. >> there you go. that's an oyster from tomorrow's bay oyster company. >> reporter: todd gave up farming prunes and turned to oysters because he wanted to grow on something not dependent on the rain. >> it tastes better than that. >> reporter: based on california's current climate, he made a wise mood. the drier it is the more oysters of his own he could harvest. >> if we have an inch of rain, then we are closed for five days. if you have consecutive rains to extend ten days. >> reporter: when is the last time that happened? there's been about a third fewer rain closures this year. >> that's a part of the story. >> reporter: meaning he is left

from foster farms. simply better. and we are back on kron4 news weekend. let's take a live look outside from the cam as you can see the overcast conditions there. and dave, we want to figure out what things are going to look like for this sunday because a lot of folks are heading out to the golden gate park where the weather is chilly. >> it will be cool, but i mean a lot of sunshine going on as we have it fighting with the clouds. this is san mateo bridge. look at that the sun and the background. it's the ominous looking clouds, whatever, just the marine layer, working its magic to get a little daytime heating and we'll see things start to rock 'n' roll here for us. as far as temperatures are concerned, they'll be controlled mostly by this low that is well out to sea. it is not bringing any rain with all of this, but they will keep the temperatures subdued just a little bit. in the seven day they will pop over your weekend. good for the festivals and

stuff going on this weekend because by next weekend, numbers will start to pounce on us a bit. here are what the temperatures will look like right now as we hold this course. 58 for san francisco and daly city at 57, 54 up to navajo. vallejo 51. fairfield at 60. livermore at 58. those numbers in the far east bay tend to pop a lot on us. however it is because of the dry air that we would have around, that is why the temperatures will start to fall and we have clear skies last night for the most part. what we've got going on at 60 at coast immediately. 78 for the high. not bad again for the festivals and such. 67 at the coast a little cool, but still the temperatures getting in to the 70s by the afternoon. inland temperatures, watch out. 86 going on by the afternoon late day highs. if you're flying out of sfo, we are continuing to have some problems, then we're talking about the clearing skies and the marine layer is mixing out. still not at sfo, but a 40- minute delay and oakland and san jose are clear as a bell. >> thank you.

back to the news this morning. federal investigators are looking in to the shooting and the killing of the black texas football player by the white police officer. surveillance photos just released this moment showing them leading up to the car dealership shooting in arlington, texas friday morning as you can see the 19-year-old christian taylor is standing on cars and kicking windshields. police say that they were called to the scene after taylor allegedly drove his vehicle in to the dealer's showroom. and the rookie officer brad miller shot taylor several times, killing him. police say that taylor was not listening to their calls to surrender. taylor's father says no matter what he was doing at the dealership that he should not have been killed. >> you know what i mean and you try to take down the officer. you try to take down men with your hands. you have your clubs, whatever, there he is, unarmed, 19 years old. and you shoot to kill. >> officer who shot taylor is

on mandatory administrative leave, while the criminal investigation is underway. today marks one year since the police officer shot and killed an unarmed michael brown in ferguson, missouri. this weekend the crowds of people would gather to celebrate brown's life in a march lead by brown's father. the 18-year-old's death sparked days of unrest and violent protest on the streets of ferguson. another rally is planned for today at the spot where michael brown was killed. with our partners of cnn they take a closer look at the michael brown case one year later. >> reporter: the scars of protesters wiped clean waiting for progress. this is ferguson, one year after white police officer darren wilson shot and killed unarmed black teenager michael brown, unleashing months of protest. though wilson was not indicted by the grand jury and he was cleared of civil rights violations, becoming a symbol for something more that black lives are treated as

dispensable in american society. >> regardless of if you saw what happened or not, it was the blatant disrespect that people feel because they left his body here for four and a half hours, that is really what charges people up. >> reporter: film maker and ferguson resident chris phillips lives in the apartment complex where brown was killed, so moved by the raw emotions, he began recording it, culminating it in a documentary. >> has anything changed between the relationship of people and police here, especially in this particular area? >> i don't think that anything has changed with the relationship because they are still not engaging their citizens. >> reporter: they found ferguson was disproportionately excessively ticketing the black citizens. the white police chief and city manager and police judge have been replaced. the new interim police chief is black, so is the new city manager. and the new municipal judge. as are two new city council

members. to some protesters, the mayor is that weed that must be removed. they see the interim titles as a temporary smoke screen with no real change on how citizens are treated. but ashby disagrees. >> we are moving forward. our city is getting better. that will not happen overnight, you know, destruction is immediate and for the people destroying very gratifying change and take time. >> reporter: though he is not blind to racial disparities in america. >> statistically it is hard to say that our society values african american lives as much as white lies. >> reporter: he isn't the only one that worries that a small sliver of the new movement could tear the racial divide open even further. >> essentially what they are doing is dismissing the efforts of those and that they do not do things that they don't if they are not out, threatening to rape their families, then somehow we're not committed to the cause of social justice. >> a plaque serves as a

reminder of what happens here, trying to make a point that it wasn't about brown's death, but the rebirth of a civil rights movement. >> with this legacy, it is affecting the world in a distance because of the fact that they did make people motivated to speak up to march and rally and to fight the change. >> reporter: cnn ferguson, missouri. coming up in about 10 minutes, you'll hear from the former officer darren wilson about what he has been doing since the shooting one year ago today. bay area news now this morning a police chase on the peninsula will lead to five arrests that happened at about 9:00 on friday night and the officer on highway one, trying to stop the vehicle near the avenue. the officer suspected drunk driving, but the driver kept on going and then crashed in to a hillside near the tunnel, rolled over, the car landed on its roof. police arresting five male suspects. three of them juveniles. the vehicle was later found to be stolen.

we are seeing more of the damage this morning left by typhoon pseudolure as it barrels through china this weekend. the storm has weakened to a tropical depression. at least 20 people are dead or missing. heavy rains in mainland china triggered mud slides taking down homes and trees. the storm also cut off power to more than one million people. at least 100 people were injured by the typhoon. let's bring it back home and check in for the bay area forecast for this sunday morning and in to the evening. >> good morning, marty. good morning everybody. a quick shot of sfo with some reports of delays going on there this morning. it looks pretty good right now, but if you're in traveling, you may want to check with your airlines, perhaps that effect may have affected you with your specific situation that was not affected, yeah, we're seeing

the water. 77 for oakland, berkeley at 71. martinez is 81 all the -- all of that in the later half of our seven-day forecast. we start our day in to sunday 88 for the inland valleys. 66 at the coast. but we get towards the end of next saturday, coastal temperatures at 72. 82 for the bay, then 96 going on for the inland valleys. marty? >> dave, thank you. a man is behind bars this morning on suspicion of killing a toddler in redwood city. police arrested 27-year-old daniel contreras about 12:30 saturday morning. the child died on thursday after being found unconscious and not breathing in an apartment on madison avenue. the toddler was later pronounced dead at the hospital. contreras was taking care of the child at the time telling

they would investigate the illegal selling of the wristband passes to the event. they spoke to the local musician and san francisco police. >> fantastic as they tell me that he was obtained for three hours. they tell me that it was only about an hour and a half, either way that he would say he was very upset about this and that they were suppose to go on stage tonight to perform, but that it did not happen. now, they tell me that they were tipped off by the employee with another planet entertainment that three men, they had allegedly sold the wristbands on craigslist. one of those men were fantastic as he was scheduled to play at the panhandle stage during their outside land. now, he tells me that it was actually an intern who worked for him, who admitted to police that he sold those wristbands on craigslist. that the artist says he has no control over the wristbands and tells me he was not happy with the way that he was treated.

then the bay bridge, different story. it's almost scary. >> pretty ominous there. they didn't even see charlotte out there at all. maybe sleeping in and with all the gray skies. i don't know, i think that i will sleep in. what do we have going on? a low out to sea and that will be somewhat of a temperature control for us, at least at the immediate coastline. you're going to see it how the numbers will start to pounce for us in the east bay, particular lit inland locations, although not as high as it will be in your old seven- day forecast. but again we're dealing with the low-level moisture for now, even though a lot of the bay saw clear skies overnight allowing temperatures to fall even more so than what we would see with all the cloud cover, starting things up, they start to change. sunset, then you can see how things start to cool off. east bay too, the north bay is the only area that we don't see the cool down quite as quickly for tonight.

temperatures are on the board now as we speak. santa rosa at 57 for san francisco. 59 for concord and 64 at livermore. again that dry air. clear skies all checking in to help temperatures fall overnight. close inspection for the highs today. redwood city at 81. 87 at pal alto going on the east bay shoreline temperatures, they will vary, union city at 77. 81 for fremont and richmond at 71. but you head a little further to the east, that is where numbers will be more impressive, besides livermore at 86. you go for martinez 85. and then brentwood at 92. a little bit of a variety to be had there. now as we talk about it, a little warm up happening today, sure. then the rest of the middle part of the week on tuesday and wednesday, 86.

killing, the moments leading up to the shooting in arlington, texas happening friday morning as you can see the 19-year-old christian taylor is standing on cars, kicking windshields. police were called to the scene after taylor allegedly drove his vehicle in to the dealership's showroom. a rookie officer, brad miller, he would shoot taylor several times killing him. police say that taylor was not listening to their calls to surrender. no matter what his son was doing, he should not have been killed. >> and that we would try to take it down at the officer. and the 19-year-old. >> the officer who shot taylor is on mandatory administrative leave, while the criminal investigation is underway. today marks one year since the police officer shot and killed an unarmed michael brown

in ferguson, missouri. this weekend the crowds of people would gather to celebrate his life in a march lead by brown's father. the 18-year-old's death sparked days of unrest and violent protest on the streets of ferguson. another rally in march would plan for today at the spot where michael brown was killed. sarah with our partners at cnn would take a closer look at the michael brown case one year later. >> reporter: the scars of protesters would wipe it clean waiting for progress as this is ferguson, one year after white police officer darren wilson shot and killed unarmed teenager michael brown, unleashing months of protest. though wilson was not indicted by the grand jury, and cleared of civil rights violations by the federal government. brown's life became a symbol for something more. and that the black lives are too often treated as dispensable in american society. >> regardless of if you saw what happened or not that it was the blatant disrespect that people feel because they left their body here for four and a

half hours. so that is really what charges people up. >> film maker chris phillips lives in the apartment complex where brown was killed. so moved by the event that he began recording it. >> has anything changed between the relationship of police and people here in this area? >> i don't think that anything has changed as they are still not engaging their citizens. >> reporter: after a department of justice investigation finding ferguson was disproportionately and ticketing and fining their black citizens to bank role its budget. the police chief, city manager, and chief judge all criticized in that report have been replaced. the new interim police chief is black, so is the new city manager and the new municipal judge. as are two new city council members. to some protesters, the mayor is that weed that must be removed. they see the interim titles as a temporary smoke screen with

no real change on how sit -- disagrees. >> we are getting better, destruction is immediate and for the people destroying very gratifying will change and take time. >> reporter: though ashby is not blind to racial disparities in america. >> statistically it is hard to say that our society values african american lives as much as white lives. >> reporter: he isn't the only one that worries that a small sliver of the new movement could tear the racial divide open even further. >> essentially what they are doing, dismissing the efforts of everybody else that doesn't do things exactly the way they do. we're not out shouting, threatening to rape their family and we're not causeth cause of social justice. >> reporter: a black serves as a re-- a plaque serves as a reminder of what happened here, that it wasn't just about brown's death, but the rebite of the civil rights movement. >> with this legacy it has affected the world in a

low lying clouds are still hanging around. that's the marine layer moisture that has to mix out. this is just east of walnut creek that you'll notice that upsloping when they would hit that, it's higher up. when you get the marine layer that is there, sometimes causing a little drizzle that will happen. that's not guaranteed that it will be striking the ground, but the possibility is there. radar sees it and reports it in. and also north of pittsburgh a little package there to make note of. outside of that basically fairly quiet start again with that marine layer as you can see on the satellite picture the gray and the dark that you would notice happening there, that's the gray that we're speaking of. that's kind of covering things up a little bit. then afterwards temperatures, they will start to pounce. the future cast four would notice as you go forward and look at those inland valleys, they are blood red and then we will go in to the evening hours. the cooling trend will take the

peninsula and the east bay kind of missing that north bay in the immediate cool down. it will be a little more delayed, found in the north bay in terms of those temperatures. ice around the south bay, looking at this mountain view about 79. we'll go around 85. san jose 83 and evergreen at 84. the greater bay area in terms of temperatures, well it looks like san francisco will check in at 71. san rafael at 85. santa rosa also at 85. obviously these are highs. east bay pretty much upper 80s for now, although it is possible that you might scratch maybe one 90 there or so in your seven-day forecast where thing wills start to build. here is what we would have for you. 96 going on by next saturday. we do have a high that will ultimately build out to texas that will be the middle portion of the week going forward as they would reassert themselves. keeping things that will be delayed. 60s to the coast, just about all week, marty? >> all right, dave, thank you. happening today the 22nd

sunday night taking the stage at 7:35 sharp. philippe djegal, kron 4 news. we are following breaking news out of texas. a major tragedy in the houston suburb. five children and three adults have been found dead in a home where a gunman was holed up. yesterday, deputies were called out to the house for a welfare check and they spotted a body by peering through a window. after an hour long standoff, the gunman surrendered but we dope know the man's relationship to any of the victims. happening today, the oakland as will honor fallen hayward police sergeant scott lunger. in a essential pregame ceremony, ricky henderson will be catching the first pitch from sergeant lunger's father. lunger was a devoted as fan and ricky was his favorite player. the trivalley as will also be

on the field with the reg players during the national anthem. they will take on the houston astros at 1:05 today. sergeant lunger was shot and killed during a traffic stop last month. firefighters are gaining the upper hand against the rocky fire. the once 100 square mile wild fire 70% contained. the cooler overnight weather and reenforcements have helped them make progress against the blaze. fire officials warn they still have a lot of work to do to make sure the fire doesn't flare up again. the rocky fire was burning in three counties. lake, calussa, and yolo and destroyed dozens of home. the battle for wild fires continues. we learned a u.s. forest service firefighter has been killed in the line ever oddity. it happened saturday in a remote area. near lake tahoe.

the firefighter has not been identified. last month, another firefighter has been killed fighting fire ins the golden state. up ahead, an amazing feat for a bay area swimmer. the record she beat swimming in shark-infested waters. we told you about all the problems the drought is causing, but there is another side to the story. some businesses are flourishing. we will take you there next. and coming up, customer complaints about some signs in a target store prompting a major change. what will soon be different in the kids department.

>> and we are back on kron 4 news weekend. 9:14 this sunday morning taking a live look outside. we have watched the richmond bridge conditions and it has been cloudy. looks like it is breaking up dave. >> yeah, look at that, patches of sunshine. we have a lot of cloud cover at the oakland bay bridge.

but that is not uniform. we are seen numbers start to jump on us later on marty. we are looking for a bigger jump there. let's move to the golden gate. a different story here. san francisco. 62. 62 santa rosa. livermore, 67. finally numbers are starting to climb there. we saw in the east bay, temperatures fell because of the clear skies an dry air. relatively speak, that we had overnight. and the marine layer came chugging right in here around sunrise before the air started to mix out a little bit. the satellite radar, if you look carefully, you can see the gray occurring. the low level moisture we are speaks of. that's the marine layer. we are seeing a little bit on storm tracker 4. this in the higher elevations. it is the up sloping we sometimes talk about. it is when you send an air mass a little higher in the atmosphere. a little rain that may come out

of it. though that is no guarantee. that will dissipate throughout the day. forward, we see nice warmup happening for the inland valleys in the sacramento valley. though contrasted for that in the peninsula in south bay. temperatures fall relatively quickly tonight at sunset. inspection of temperatures accrues the answer will. at 66 ocean beach. in the south bay, looks like it will come in around 83 in san jose. 73 mountain view, oakland, 77. berkeley, 70. when you head further into the inland valleys, that is when we start to see a couple of 90s pop. generally speaking, it will be into upper and lower 80s territory. in the north bay, we look for numbers to be santa rosa with

the san rafael around 85 as well. here is a look at the seven day forecast. numbers will start to get more routinely into the 90s but then temporarily, we are being held back a bit because of this low out to sea. low pressure starts to build and things will be much hotter next weekend. >> thanks dave. well california's drought has many farmers struggling, but believe it or not, there are actually some who are flourishing. emily turner was in tomales bay talking with oyster farmers. >> reporter: let's be clear, the california drought is bad, but at least it isn't damaging everyone's business. specifically, the ones who aren't as affected by water woes are the ones who farm in it. there is a silver lining to the clouds in drought stricken california. it comes on the half shell. toll friend gave up farming prunes an turned to oysters

college football player by a white police officer. surveillance photos released this morning showing the momenting leading up to the shooting at a car dealership in arlington, texas. this was early friday morning. you can see 19-year-old christian taylor standing on cars kicking windshields. police were called to the scene after taylor allegedly drove his vehicle into the dealership showroom. brad miller shot taylor several times killing him. police say he was not listening to calls to surrender. his father says no matter what his son was doing at the dealership, he should not have been killed. >> you try to take down men with your hands. you have your tazers, your clubs. unarmed 19-year-old and you shoot to kill? >> the officer who shot taylor is on mandatory administrative leave while a criminal investigation is underway.

happening today, it marks one year since the shooting and killing of 18-year-old michael brown in ferguson, missouri by a police officer. the confrontation between brown, an african-american, and darren wilson, a white police officer sparked days of unrest and violent protests on the street of ferguson, missouri. crowds came out to celebrate his life and also to take part in a march led by his father, michael brown sr. it ban on the street where the shooting took place and ended at normandy high school where brown graduated. another crowd is set to gather later today at the spot where the 18-year-old was killed. they will be holding a moment of silence followed by a setting off on a silent march. sara from our partnership at cnn takes a look at ferguson one year after brown's death. >> reporter: the scars of protester's fury wiped clean after protest. it is one year since darren

wilson shot unarmed teenager michael brown. wilson was not indicted by a grand jury and cleared of civil rights violations by the federal government, brown's life became a symbol of something more that black lives are treated as dispensable in today's society. >> they left his body here four hours. that really charges people up. >> reporter: chris phillips lives in the apartment complex where brown was killed. so moved by the raw emotions he witnessed, he began recording it culminating in a documentary. >> has anything changed in this particular area? >> i don't think anything has changed with the relationship. they are still not engaging their citizens. >> reporter: after a department of justice investigation that found ferguson was disproportionately and ticketing an fining the black citizens to bankroll the budget. the white police chief, city

manager, and chief judge all criticized in that report, have been replaced. the new interim police chief is black. so is the new city manager. and, the new municipal judge as are two new city council members. the mayor is the weed that must be removed to some of them. they see the interim titles as a temporary smoke screen with no real change, but citizen blake ashby disagrees. >> we are moving forward. our city is getting better. that will not happen overnight. the destruction is immediate. change is hard and it takes time. >> reporter: though ashby says he is not blind to the racial disparities. >> it is hard not to say our society values african-american lives as much as white lives statistically. >> reporter: he is not the only one worried that a small sliver of the movement could tear the divide open further. >> they are dismissing the

efforts of those who don't do things the way they do. if we are not out shouting at the cops threatening to rape their families, we are not committed to the cause of social justice. >> reporter: the plaque serves as a reminder of what happened here. this was not just about brown's death, but the rebite of a civil rights movement. >> i think it has affected the world in a good sense. it did make people motivated to speak up, to march, to rally, to fight for change. we will be right back.

week from now, we will be up into the mid 90s in some parts around the bay area. plenty of sunshine as well. over the last couple of mons we told you about several whales that have been washing ashore to bay area beaches. the most recent one was a week ago in pacifica. it has a lot of us wondering why this is happening. here to talk about it is dr. shawn johnson. thank you very much for joining us. >> thank you marty. >> we wanted to ask you why is this happening? i know there are several reasons. >> we had a hump back whale stranded in pacifica this week. we tried to determine why without doing a full necropsy. we try to fig your out this whale looked like it had been struck by something really big. most likely a ship that caused a fracture of its vertebrae and killed it. >> i than happened earlier in the year as well. >> yes, a juvenile female hump back in may that washed up with

the same problem. it is not common, but we do see gray whales in are struck by ships. >> and, there are other reasons that this is happens as well. you were telling me part of it has to do with the food source moving. >> yeah, off the coast here, there are a large number of whales right now the. gray whales are migrating to alaska. there are large numbers of autodifferent types of whales which is unusual. because the warm water temperatures right now, all the food is migrated further north bringing all the whales with them. >> so can we expect to see more whales beaching themselves over the next several months? >> yeah, i would think it wouldn't be unusual to see some more whales washing up on our beaches because they are such high concentrations of them along the farallon islands and there's a lot of shipping traffic. there are other reasons they could die. >> you mentioned one of the

other reasons could be this toxic algae bloom. >> yes, this summer there has been a high level of demulic acid, a neurotoxin produced by a marine algae. and that affect it is sea lions, all the marine animals. it can be a horrible disease if they get it. >> seems like we have a lot of issues going on with the fact we are seeing more beached whales. one of them has to do with the food sources moving and one the algae bloom. and also because there are more whales, a lot of them are hit by shipping. >> that would be all the causes so far. >> so let's turn our attention to this fun run that you have going on. it is to help the sea lion population. >> this year has been one of the busiest years we have had with a huge number of fee loon

strandings. to pay for all the animals, we have a fund raising event called fun run. this is a 5k certified run where runners can get certified for future races. you can bring your dog, enjoy the scenery. we encourage people to dress up. it is a great event we have every single year to help pay for the current patients that we have on site. but also, we are getting really worried about next year with this looming el niño. >> what concern is that causing? >> when there is a large el niño, water temperatures increase. >> it so it warms up more. >> yes causing the food to leave the area. all the animals that rely on the food in the channel islands don't have enough food and they wash up starving. >> so this is yet another issue that you and the other members of the marine mammal center may

deal with next year. it brings rain and much warmer temperatures. >> yeah, we all want some rain for a drought. but every year there has been an el niño event, we have had increased numbers. it puts a lot of pressure to on them to find food. >> one thing i noticed in the graphic that we had up on the screen there, you are looking for one runner per patient. explain that. >> this year, we rescued over 1500 patients. marine mammals of all different sorts. we were hoping we get one participant runner that was cared for this year. we are a thousand runners so far. >> you are well on the way. >> yeah, but we have one more week before the event occurs so we are hoping everyone will come out and support the marine mammal center and we will have one runner for every patient we have rescued. >> how can people sign up for the event or learn more about the issues you have been talking about and possibly
