developing throughout the morning hours, otherwise sunshine and a nice afternoon with really mild readings expected. here's a live look at the bay bridge this morning. clear skies in our east bay locations right now. temperatures are looking good for oakland. it's 59 degrees and clear to partly cloudy conditions. by lunchtime we'll see 70 degrees. temperatures similar to yesterday. 73 is your high. we'll hit that at 2:00 p.m. this afternoon. low 70s by 6:00 tonight under clear conditions, 65 by 8:00 this evening. temperatures as you're waking up and heading out the door, a lot of 50s and 60s on the map. 61 in downtown san francisco. low 60s in livermore, 59 in concord and 57 for our friends in napa. so what's happening with temperatures today? it's going to be a nice mild warm day all across the bay area. our future cast shows us by

9:00 we'll see 50s and 60s, so grab a jacket or sweater, and then by lunchtime today we'll see 60s for the heart of the bay, including san rafael, but the yellow showing places will be in the low 70s by the lunchtime hour. and then by 3:00 p.m. we'll see temperatures topping in the 60s and 70s across the board. not expecting 80s for this afternoon. we could see a couple low 80 degrees readings for some spots. low 80s in pleasanton and livermore. upper 60s in downtown san francisco, so a little cooler today compared to yesterday's high that topped out in the lower 70s. 75 in san mateo. san jose, 77 degrees, and for our friends in the north bay, a mixed bag of mid to upper 70s under sunny skies for the afternoon. quick check of your bridges on your tuesday mornings. we'll start with the bay

fairfax. they say a body was discovered last nature on a trail. no details have been released but we're headed there and we'll have an update live from the scene so stay tuned. also this morning, california will now allow terminally ill patients to legally end their lives. it becomes the nation's 5th state to do so, the governor signing the state's right to die bill yesterday after an emotional and deeply personal debate. it was passed back in september. this despite the highly publicized case of brittany maynard. >> it's been a tumultuous year. i have to say that the ups and downs in the legislative process were taxing for me but i also come at this from the standpoint of compared to what

i went through last year and then for sure by comparison to what brittany had to endure last year, this was a walk in the park. >> the bill requirements are that the patient must be capable of taking the medication themselves and that two doctors must approve it. a san ramon man is arrested after he drugged and assaulted women in the area. he arranged at least four meetings with women here in the bay area. >> first and foremost i want to be clear, the problem in this whole thing was the suspect. it wasn't the victim. it wasn't that they did something remiss or they should be in any way ashamed or feel judged. >>reporter: police want to know if you've met this man. you may know him as kevin park,

jeremy lee. fre monfremont police say he drugged women. >> we did a lot of research into him. >>reporter: they say he used these sites. in september fremont detectives traveled to champagne illinois to arrest him at the university of illinois. police say they know of four bay area victims over the summer. they won't go into detail into what evidence they have but they say it points to more victims. since the women were rendered unconscious, it's possible some victims would not remember the encounter. >> if there is something else that he has done to other people, we want to know about it because we want to make sure he's held accountable. now the national news this morning, in roseburg oregon, we have grieve and gratitude.

they seem to come hand in hand where survivors of last week's shooting know they're lucky to be alive. tracy was in the classroom and she describes her experience. >> he didn't seem like he was like anxious or anything. he just seemed like he wanted to do that, and he seemed happy about it. he didn't seem stressed. >> students were allowed to collect their belongings. they also had the option to talk to counselors if they needed it. classes will resume on october 12th. it as an emotional night for many in fremont. a beloved teacher is murdered. the main suspect is her son. last night friends and family members celebrated her life and we spoke with those that knew

her at the vigil and they held it for her in her honor. >> she was the kind of person that drew everyone in with positive energy. >> a wonderful person. >> she challenged students to go further than people expected them to. >>reporter: many of those students are now celebrating her life. >> she would come over and just check on anthony on a personal note just to see how he was doing. >>reporter: loved ones are doing their best to forget about the circumstances of her death and focus on the good she did while they was alive. >> she was very proud to be a teacher and doing a great job. >>reporter: teaching was her passion. >> she would have them make music, write stories. she was awesome. >>reporter: but she was a whole lot more than a retired teacher. her personality drew people to her. many shared memorable moments they had with her.

>> people were thinking we were homeless people begging for money and we laughed about it later. >> her son now being held without bail. he'll be in court later this afternoon. in the east bay, police are hoping that this surveillance image helps catch a man who shot an artist who was working on a neighborhood mural. there was a verbal argument and then he ran off. police are calling him a person of interest in this case. police are saying he's about 6 feet tall has a thin build. take a a look at the photograph. the victim was killed last tuesday morning. up to $10,000 now being offered for any information that would lead to an arrest. coming up on the kron 4 morning news, it's almost that time of year again.

. time now 4:12. let's get caught up on national news. we have flood waters that have killed at least 12 people in the carolinas. we followed the story for you yesterday. it's been raining there since late last week. in south carolina, for instance, as many as 9 dams have failed and more could follow. the rain has stopped but

communities remain on edge. there have been boat rescues taking people to safety. >> what i got on my body is what we have. pretty much down that hill there has lost everything this morning. our vehicles, our clothes, our everything, but the best thing is that we still have our lives. >> president obama has signed a disaster declaration, meaning federal aid will come to south carolina. that one of the main weather stories. we're also tracking our forecast this morning. >> good morning. we could see patchy fog and low clouds enveloping this -- developing this morning. clear skies here for now. that's good news for the earliy arriving flights this morning, so i don't anticipate any delays as of now for sfo, oakland or san jose, but if the

times. we're looking at very light traffic conditions on highway 4 from antioch the concord. that will take you about 15 minutes this morning. here's a look at highway 4 from concord to walnut creek to the 680 enter change. that will taking you under ten minutes. and your drive from walnut creek to dublin will take you about 16 minutes. back to you, james. let's head to the north bay where a federal civil rights lawsuit has been filed against sonoma county after two former inmates say they got a 5-hour beating from deputies. they claim the deputies attacked them, along with at least 18 other inmates. we have more details on the lawsuit. >>reporter: there are major accusations surrounding the alleged happenings inside these

walls. two former inmates have come forward and filed a federal civil rights lawsuit alleging violence and misconduct against inmates on may 28th of this year. according to this complaint, an inmate didn't wake up when soap was being given out. that was when things took a turn. the complaints continued saying at one point deputies dressed in all black, wearing ski masks, dragged him to the shower, order him to strip naked and told the inmate he was their expletive. he pleaded that he was unable to breathe and begged deputies to stop. the response, according to the complaint, let me hear you say it, say, say this is our house. we can do this all day. in another stance that day, the come -- instance that day, the complaint says banks was denied medical attention for his injuries for more than 24

hours. he suffers from serious anxiety and mental health difficulties following the incident. also this morning, the state of nevada is paying up. the state in hot water now after allegedly putting mentally ill patients on one- way bus trips to san francisco. it was back in 2013 san francisco sued nevada after reports of patients being discharged from a psychiatric hospital in las vegas and were then bused to california. they were directed to look for care in san francisco. nevada has agreed to pay $400,000 to settle the lawsuit. the san jose stadium deal is dead for now. some fans holding out hope that major league baseball and the a's will turn their attention back to the south bay. as expected by most legal experts, the u.s. supreme court has refused to san jose's contention that major league baseball stalled the bid to

bring the as to town. the mayor says it's time to move on. well, new this morning, the fate of an apartment complex that's dangerously close to falling in the pacific ocean. kron 4's charles clifford takes a look at what's happening with those apartment complexes. >>reporter: during the winter of 2009/2010, heavy storms tore away at the cliffs here in pacifica. when it became clear that several buildings were in danger of falling, the apartments were red tagged and evacuated. they have remained that way since. efforts were made to prevent erosion but they've remain unchanged. there's new concerning that the apartments could once again be in danger of falling. she lives a few doors down in

a vigil was held last night for a beloved teacher who was murdered and the main suspect is the teacher's own son. last night friends and family members celebrated the victim's life. she was a retired special education math teacher, and people who knew her say that teaching was her passion. her son, omar, is being held without bail and he'll be arraigned this afternoon. police in the east bay looking for more victims after a man is accused of drugging and sexually assaulting four min. the 20-year-old lives in san ramon and the alleged assaults happened in fremont. police say he used fake names and is accused of giving women alcohol tainted with drugs and sexually assaulting them. there is evidence indicating there may be more victims throughout the bay area. let's turn our attention to weather. we've got anywe're looking at

the forecast. >> it will be a couple degrees warmer or cooler depending on where we're at. we're looking at a beautiful fall day. we have clear skies starting off this tuesday morning here in san francisco. the only exception is santa rosa. right now you're reporting cloudy conditions. santa rosa looking for a high of 67 at 2:00 today. getting to around 63 by 6:00 this evening. it's going to be a nice ride home. look for a southwestly wind. here's a look at your future cast. temperatures in the 50s and 60s and warming up nicely for lunch time. a lot of us will be in the 70s today. and then by 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. this afternoon, we'll hit our afternoon highs. that will be generally mainly 70s and a few spots in the low

>> the first was to recover my vehicle, but this is the first time so far this week. >>reporter: and what would you say the mood is like? >> it's subdued. it's really, really awkwardly quiet out here. everything is still locked and i'm apparently one of the only students here. >>reporter: and how are you holding up? >> i'm doing all right. i'm just trying to keep focused on my schoolwork and what not and push through this. >>reporter: law enforcement will be on campus all week. and just to reiterate, classes are canceled all this week and are expected to start back up on october 12th. >> much more on that story too as students return to class and resume class on october 12th. back here in the bay area, let's talk about the new eastern span of the bay bridge. even before it was open to traffic, there had been safety concerns. some questioned the role of corrosion and water intrusion

and how that's played in the long-term safety of the bridge. now there are new concerns about a different section of the bridge. this time the focus is on the main cable. the question is whether water is getting into the eastern anchorage just below the road deck. officials say there's no active rust at this point and the brimming is safe, but they're -- bridge is safe and they're keeping an eye on it. police are on the hunt with an armed robber. it happened last monday. in the surveillance video you can see a man attacking a homeowner in his garage. the homeowner fights back and is able to wrestle away the man's gun. >> i don't come off as any kind of tough guy, and so people look at that and they're kind of like oh, look at this guy, you know, you brandish a gun on him, he's going to give you his

life savings. not this time around. >> so that's our first time hearing from the homeowner. he says he learned to defend himself groaning up in the tough doing growing up in the tough eastern oakland neighborhood. chevy is about to release it's latest hybrid car, and we get a precue of that car -- preview of that car next. if you missed our update on the forecast, don't worry, we'll have it again at 4:45.

. we are back. 4:39 the time. chevy about to release its major up date to its hybrid. the car hits dealerships next week. >>reporter: before it officially hits the market next week, chevy brought the new 2016-volt to san francisco to give the media a chance to get up close to the car and take it for a spin. here's my take. driving it around, i liked how it handled. it was fast. the hills of san francisco were no problem. there is some power in this car. it has a lot of improvements from the first version. it basically has been rebuilt from the ground up. i feel like this is a high-end hybrid vehicle that you can get for a low price. you can get for at low as $25,000. it's not as fancy as a tesla,

doesn't have all the bells and whistles. this an affordable alternative. and one advantage to the volt being a hybrid, it does have a gas engine that kicks in as you need it. 90% of the time as you drive around town or on your regular commute, you will only use electric power, but if you get stuck in traffic or if you want to go out of town for the weekend, you can get there with this car without having to recharge or refuel. it can get 420 miles off of one charge and one tank of gas. when you're driving you're constantly recharging. >> this car is more than 200 pounds lighter than the other volt. there's additional safety features. we have lane departure warning and lane keep assist are some options that are available with it now. forward collision alert. ten airbags in the vehicle.

79 for sunnyville. upper 70s in morgan hill. here's a quick check of your storm tracker. the warmup continues through the next few days here. mid 80s expected inland for wednesday and thursday. friday looks to be our warmest day where our inland highs top out in the upper 80s, close to 90 on friday. the weekend looks to be nice, upper 80s for saturday and sunday with lots of sunshine. i do want to mention there is one model hinting at the chance for moisture late saturday into sunday. other models keeping it dry, so we'll keep our eye on that. let's look at the traffic. i mentioned the accident on 92 the and 101. it's involving the truck, so westbound traffic is blocked at 101 this morning. there is debris scattered on the roadway, so you may encounter that if you're in the san mateo area, and right now

all of us. she can be everywhere now. also in the news this morning, a former marine and harvard-educated lawyer pleaded not guilty to kidnapping charges. the 38-year-old is accused of breaking into a home and adeducting denise. police original any dismissed that case as a hoax, but in june he was arrested with a home invasion in dublin and evidence was found that linked him to the kidnapping. a trade involving the united states and 11 other nations is a major victory for president obama but it could create a rift. it will be weeks before the full scope of the agreement is known, but several labor groups are worried that it will result in american jobs being sent to countries with lower wages.

a congressional vote on the transpacific partnership is not expected to happen until next year. at least 13 people were killed from a storm that ravaged the carolinas. the weather is flooding roads. experts say the weather is not over yet. we have the latest from columbia, south carolina. >>reporter: scenes of unearthed caskets are adding to the heart break. >> we've got to respect the dead, but that's family suffering. that's their family popped up out of the ground. i think it's the human thing to do. >>reporter: flood waters separated tombstones from the ground. >> there were alligators in the parking lot. >>reporter: flood waters took control of this truck. the powerful currents were enough to carry the vehicle through the intersection. this the case people escaped safely, but not everyone was as

lucky. >> this is dangerous. i can't stress enough that this is not a fun event. we don't want to come out and rescue and have you added to this number of fatalities. >>reporter: roads and bridges are closed as rescue teams scramble to pull residents from the rising waters. the waters that officials warn are on the move. >> if you don't need to be out, don't go out. we don't need spectators. we need people to stay in. there's a good chance if you go out and start looking, you may become a victim because we've got roads that are continuing to crumble down, so we're asking everybody to stay in. two marines are hoping for the best as they wait for news about their friend who is missing in the atlantic. keith griffin was an engineer on the car go ship that disappeared in hurricane joaquin. we talked to two of his

for you. temperatures should get up to 76 to 77 degrees today. that will be between 2:00 and 4:00 this afternoon. winds will be light and variable, but the sunshine looks to be out later this afternoon. let's get a quick update on traffic. james, we are already tracking a hot spot with a problem in san mateo on highway 92 westbound right at the highway 101 interchange. an accident occurring in the 4:00 hour. that, according to the chp, is blocking autopsy westbound lanes of -- all westbound lanes and that includes debris from the accident and emergency vehicles. so at present there isn't much of a backup but that's only because the traffic is so light. the chp may be issuing a special traffic advisory meaning they expect lanes to be blocked for 30 or more minutes. right now your ride into the bay bridge westbound, problem free. no delays here as you can see. and the 92 ride is being fed

here at the san mateo bridge. and because the traffic is as light as you see it here, that's why we don't see a bigger backup at the other side. one of the big stories we're following right now, sheriff's deputies are investigating a suspicious death. jackie is in fairfax with details. >>reporter: i'm just west of fairfax. you can see crime scene investigators are still on the scene almost 12 hours after they found the body here. here's video from earlier this morning. now, according to the sheriff's deputy, they say shortly after 6:00 last night, a hiker on old railroad grade trail just west of downtown fairfax found a body on the trail. now, right now the sheriff's department is not saying whether that victim is a male

or female but they're ininvestigating it as a suspicious death. we're also being told that there are signs of trauma on the body. so right now what's going on is the investigators are still out here. what they're doing is waiting for daybreak so they can process the scene. we have been told that the coroner's office has been called to the scene. not sure whether or not the body has been removed, but obviously, given the state of darkness that they've had to work under, what they want to do is wait until the sun comes up and go through that area with a fine-tooth comb to collect any potential evidence. what we're waiting for right now is word from the sheriff's department on exactly why they're calling this a suspicious death. as soon as we get that information, we'll pass it along. >> we'll check back with you and get updates throughout the morning. police in the east bay are looking for more victims of a man who is accused of drugging

and sexually assaulting four women. they say he met them through social media. the 20-year-old lives in san ramon, and the alleged assaults happened in fremont. police say he used a number of fake names to meet women through social media websites, and popular dating apps. they say he arranged meetings through kinder, facebook, scout and moco space. he's accused of giving the women alcohol tainted with drugs and then sexually assaulting them. >> i want to be clear the problem with this whole thing was the suspect. it wasn't the victim, that they did something remiss or they should be in any way ashamed or feel judged. if there is something else he has done to other people, we want to know about it because we want to make sure he's held accountable. >> police say there's evidence indicating there could be more victims. big news that we're following nationally, south carolina is heading into the four day of flooding causing

billions of dollars in damage and nearly a dozen deaths and there's no sign of the water letting up anytime soon. anny is monitoring the situation for us. >> at least 13 people are dead after devastating storms hit the carolinas. check out the weather that flooded roads and overcame dams. weather experts say it's not over yet. officials have started what they're calling controlled releases of water at several area dams and they're concerned the infrastructure could break and cause even more damage. scenes of unearthed caskets add to the heartbreak. flood waters separated tombstones from the ground in some cemeteries. >> there were alligators in the parking lot. i cannot describe it to you. >> this is dangerous, this is very real. i can't stress enough that this is not a fun event. we don't want to have to come out and rescue you, and much worse, we don't want to have

process at times were taxing for me, but i also come at this from the standpoint of compared to what i went through last year and then for sure by comparison to what brittany had to endure last year, this is a walk in the park. >> the bill requires that the patient must be capable of taking the medication themselves and two doctors must approve it. police in the east bay are hoping surveillance images will help catch a man who shot an artist working on a mural in oakland. let's take a look at the man. he's on the right of the screen that you see there and this happened last tuesday morning as reported live here on the kron 4 morning news. there was a verbal argument between the painter and the gunman, and then the gunman opened fire and ran off.

he shot and killed antonio ramos who you see there. police are calling the man in the image a person of interest. in addition to looking at this picture, he's described as 6 feet tall a thin build, and he had a blue adidas jacket on. up to $10,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest in this case. two former sonoma county jail inmates are filing a lawsuit against the sheriff's office. they accused the correctional deputies of beating more than 20 inmates during an incident in may. martinez and banks are the ones named in this lawsuit. they say deputies systematically attacked them in the main adult detention facility. they're seeking damages and they want a special monitor appointed to oversee use of force incidents at the jail. the sheriff's office says the allegations are outrageous.

forecast. high pressure still dominating the forecast but we still have clouds roaming about, and because we have some clouds this morning like we didn't have yesterday, our temperatures might be either at or maybe even a degree cooler than it was yesterday if you're at the coast or by the immediate bay. inland you're still going to be on the warm side. san jose maxing at around 77 degrees. that's what we'll expect as you head into the 2:00, 3:00 hour this today, and again that live look shows us that we're doing good in terms at visibility. the winds on the light side but we have 10 miles per hour winds in fairfield, 3 in concord, and in the south bay we're looking at 10 miles per hour. sustained winds through downtown san jose. we've got 57 in oakland. a mix of upper 50s to low 60s like we had yesterday morning at this time. this afternoon look for the inland east bay valleys to warm up. otherwise you're looking at a mix of 76 to 79 degrees.

take a look. we're still looking at a warming trend beginning wednesday into thursday and by the weekend, upper 80s to near 90. let's get to traffic. even though there's a signal alert with lanes blocked on westbound highway 92 right at 101 where a truck and several other vehicles collided, debris spilled across the lanes, only one, possibly two lanes open, there isn't much of a backup in the westbound direction. what few lanes are open are able to absorb the traffic. it is backing up approaching the 101 interchange and will add about two to three minutes to your trip, but it's not having any impact on this ride. so of course there are no lights at the san mateo bridge so there's nothing that caltrans can do here at the east end of the span, but the traffic getting by so far seems to be able to be getting through. there is debris in the lanes,

there are emergency vehicles there, and that's why they don't have all of the lanes open yet. we are sending crews to that location, because if this is out there for much longer, the potential for a huge traffic jam exists. right now the bay bridge westbound looks good. we're about 10 to 15 minutes away from seeing the metering lights activated. for your ride to the golden gate 101 northbound, southbound delay free as you head across the span, and also problem free as you head through the county. >> thank you. big news we're following this morning, law enforcement officials say the gun man who killed 9 people last week ranted about not having a

girlfriend. in the writings, harper mercer also complained that others around him thought he was crazy. the writings were recovered last week. the official is familiar with the investigation but not authorized to speak publicly. and president obama plans to visit with the relatives of the victims of last week's community college shooting. he will travel to roseburg oregon on friday and meet with the families in a private meeting. staffers and students were allowed to return to the campus yesterday to gather their possessions that were left behind, but classes won't resume at umpqua community college until next week. the fate of a pacifica apartment complex remains in limbo. during the winter of 2009, heavy storms tore away at the cliffs. when imbecame clear that several buildings on top of did cliffs were in danger, the

apartments were red tagged and evacuated. they've remained that way since. efforts were made to prevent further erosion, but for the first four winters there have been mild winters and they've remained unchanged. people living in the area want the apartments removed. there is new concern that the apartments could once again be in peril. an american airlines flight from phoenix to boston had to make an emergency landing because the pilot died mid flight. the first officer had to take over and safely landed the plain. there were 147 passengers on board. they were told the pilot was sick and the flight was making an emergency landing. they later learned that the pilot had actually died. the pilot was identified as 57- year-old michael johnston. if you're thinking about skipping a flu shot, you may want to think about the cost of

marina boulevard and that's where we're beginning to see slow traffic on 880 in the southbound direction, and we continue to monitor here this accident westbound on highway 92 at 101 where lanes are blocked. not only on the connecting ramp from 92 on to 101 but just continuing westbound past 101 on 92, but despite the fact that there's a chp special advisory here, we just don't see much in the way of a traffic impact, even through foster city for the westbound highway 92 ride. that's not a complaint. it's just a sincere expression of wonder that we could have this many lanes blocked and so little impact. it's an easy ride here westbound, not only getting on the bridge but continuing across. at the bay bridge your westbound ride could be beginning to back up here as we now move just past 5:30. we expect to see the metering

the death of a woman whose body was found at the intersection of john f. kennedy and chain of lakes drive. it appears she suffered from some sort of blunt force trauma to the head. police are investigating her death as a homicide. police are looking for a suspect who walked into a fremont cvs and demanded prescription drugs just before 5:00 in the morning on friday. he told the clerk he had a gun and demanded drugs. the clerk told the man that they didn't have access to the medication and the man then left the store. police are asking for your help. take a look at these pictures. they want to identify two women who stole from a beauty store. they say this happened last friday around noon. the two women entered an ulta store and took things off the

shelves and walked out of the store. details are just emerging. more to come. a former marine and harvard educated lawyer pleading not guilty to kidnapping charges. he's accused of breaking into a home and abducting denise. she was later released more than 400 miles away. police originally dismissed the case as a hoax, but then in june he was arrested in another case and found evidence in that case that linked him to the kidnapping. a former morgan hill teacher will serve four decades behind bars after being convicted of sexually abusing children. 53-year-old john arthur lloyd sexually assaulted four girls. one at nordstrom elementary in 2005 and two other others at

monitoring this accident, special traffic advisory. all lanes are blocked on westbound highway 92 in san mateo at 101. even before it had a chance to seriously back up the ride, it's already been cleared and all lanes have been opened for the westbound 92 ride. a bigger problem is getting to 92 on 880 southbound with this big rig accident at marina boulevard. it starts in the fast lane and chp was taking a report from the driver saying they thought they could move the accident on their own over to the right hand shoulder but started to back up the southbound 880 ride. and tracking your right to do bridges, the bay bridge metering lights are activated. they have been for a while now with the time moving on to 5:48. we're starting to see things back up to the 880 over crossing. on 92 at the san mateo bridge, no back up. still an easy 11 minute trip time and an easy ride to the golden gate bridge as we are

incident free and not tracking any delays, and the same is true for your ride out of the east bay via the richmond bridge where the drive time is just 8 minutes heading over to san rafael. happening today, nurses at contra costa regional medical center are on strike. they say there are not enough nurses to safely treat patients. they plan to march today and there's going to be strike at clinics throughout the entire county because of this. the search continues for the sunken car go ship. it had enough life boats and rafts to escape, but experts say the winds and seas h hurricane joaquin likely made

it inescapable. it disappeared on thursday. and doctors have discovered a problem with heart valve implants that could affect hundreds of thousands of people. the valves aren't opening or closing properly, possibly because of blood clots forming. the problems are specifically with valves from cow, pig or human tissue. experts say not enough is known yet to change any practices that are currently in place. they say they're still safe and worth the risk but encourage patients to report any problems. a new government figure showed deportations of immigrants in the united states illegally have declined. the obama administration deported just over 231,000 people over the past 12 months. it's the fewest number of immigrants sent home since 2006. despite his pledge to focus

. breaking news we're following outs of the east bay. let's go to anny hong. >> a fire broke out at a senior home this morning sending one person to the hospital. here's a look at the video that just came to the newsroom. crews responded to a second alarm fire just after 4:00 this morning at this senior home on butte street near florida street. they saw smoke coming from the second floor of this two-story building and saw small fire in the bedroom. the second floor was evacuated as crews assessed the fire and were able to put it out. right now it looks like one person was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. the cause is still under investigation. we do have crews on the way and we'll bring you the latest information as soon as it comes into the newsroom.

right now marin county sheriff's deputies are investigating a suspicious death. >> we're live in fairfax with the details. >>reporter: good morning. i am out here along with the marin county sheriff's department. they have still have crime scene investigators just outside of fairfax and that is old railroad grade trail right there. that's where they discovered the body about 12 hours ago and they are still out here collecting evidence and will be out here for some time. now, they're not releasing a lot of details but here's what we know so far. at around 6:00 last night, a hiker on the old railroad grade trail found a body of a deceased person on that trail. right now the sheriff's department is not telling us whether or not that is a man or woman on the trail but that person has been pronounced dead. we're told there are signs of trauma and they're ruling this

a suspicious death. now, what the crime scene investigators are going to do this morning is wait until daylight to get out on that trail to collect more evidence. they found the body shortly after 6:00. they didn't respond until a little while later, so by then it was dark. they want to get out here and comb through this area with a fine-tooth comb. we're waiting to hear from the marin county sheriff's department if there's any new information. they're not telling us if it is a man or woman, but they're telling us there are signs of trauma. >> thanks a lot, jackie. we're just getting word of a fire in vallejo this morning. >> we are following this breaking news where there is a fire reported at a senior home in vallejo sending one person to the hospital with potentially minor injuries. here's a look at the video that

heavy traffic already a little farther south, right around the 92 interchange. it's not adding anything to your drive time. also tracking a potential problem here in san jose. report of an accident on 101 northbound near the 280 entrepreneur change, however, -- interchange. the backup is typical. the heading traffic leading toward julie and mckee. the backup reaching into the mcarthur maze. in the san mateo bridge we are still delay free for the east bay ride. 6:05. police are looking for for victims of a man who is accused of drugging and sexually assaulting four women that he met through social media. the 20-year-old lives in san ramon and police say these a

salts happened in fremont -- assaults happened in fremont. he used fake names to meet women on social media sites. he arranged the meetings through kinder, facebook and is accused of giving the women alcohol tainted with drugs and sexually assaulting them. >> first and foremost i want to be clear, the problem in this whole thing was the suspect, it wasn't the victim. it wasn't that they did something remiss or should be in any way ashamed or feel judged. if there is something else that he has done to other people, we want to know about it because we want to make sure he's held accountable. >> fremont police say there's evidence indicating there could be more victims throughout the bay area. and police are hoping surveillance images will help catch a man who shot a mural artist. it happened last tuesday morning near 35th street. police say there was a verbal

argument before a gunman shot antonio ramos an ran off. they're calling the man in the video a person of interest. police are offering up to a 10,000-dollar reward for information that leads to an arrest in the murder. an emotional night for many people in fremont. a vigil was held for a teacher who was killed. the 64-year-old was brutally murdered in her apartment in fremont. her son is accused of killing her. she was a retired special ed math teacher whose passion was teaching and loved ones wanted to focus on the good she did in her life. >> she was the kind of person that just drew everyone in with positive energy. >> a wonderful person. >> she challenged students to go further than people expected them to. >> she was very proud to be a teacher and doing a greajob. >> there's a picture of her

. welcome back. 6:15. taking a look at the weather. you asked me if i did enjoy yesterday and i did. i was out with the dog and it was beautiful. >> let's go outside and show you what we're seeing. i give out beautiful days because they're free. let's show you the golden gate bridge. it looked a little hazy around the street lamps but it's clear now. things looking pretty good here across the golden gate bridge. the other bridges nice and

clear. the fog being confined to the immediate coastline. we do have winds out there, so that's the east bay. in the south bay, san jose was at 10 the last time we checked, now it's down to 3. so we expect it to be light. as for temperatures right now, we're in the upper 50s to low 60s. out in the east bay it's a mix of 54 to 57 degrees, so a mild start. temperatures will stay mild through the 9:00 hour. we'll have clouds that will block the sun, but by noontime we'll get the 70s. then by 3:00 this afternoon, maybe a few 80s popping up in the inland east bay where we could get up to 80 degrees in pleasanton and livermore. most of our valley locations will be in the upper 70s. here's a look at your three-day outlook. temperatures warming up. i'll have the rest of your seven-day forecast coming up in

15 minutes. let's land it to george now and find out about that ride. still slowing past the scene of our lone hot spot 880. the good news is the lanes are clear here heading past marina boulevard but there are some delays leading down to 238, but all we've done is trade the location of the backup. so if you drive southbound and you get on at 238 you'll have an easy ride for your trip to the san mateo bridge if that's your destination with the heavier traffic north near marina instead of south. tracking your ride to the bridges, the bay bridge solidly backed up into the macarthur maze. it's already a 26-minute trip time coming from highway 24 and it doesn't look like it's going to be getting better soon. westbound 92 heavy out of oakland but easy through hayward. delay free still across the span. likely in the next 15 minutes

we'll see a very different picture here. and for the golden gate bridge, problem free. no delays yet through the county for 101 south, and into marin just beginning to see a backup now for the west 580 ride right here at the toll plaza of the richmond san rafael bridge. law enforcement officials say the gunman who killed 9 people in an oregon classroom last week ranted about not having a girlfriend. chris harper mercer left these writings. officials say the gunman wrote that others were saying he was unbalanced. president obama will be visiting with the relatives of the victims of last week's communities college shooting. he will be traveling to roseburg oregon on friday where

he'll meet with the families. students and staffers were allowed to return to the campus yesterday to gather possessions left behind. classes won't resume at umpqua community college until next week. investigators are probing the derailment of an amtrak train. 7 people were hurt, one seriously, when the vermonter left the tracks. it was about 10:30 in the morning yesterday. the southbound passenger train hit the rocks that had fallen from a ledge. they untrue the ledge onto the -- went from the ledge to the tracks. three passenger cars left the tracks but they remained upright. investigators from both the federal railroad administration and the ntsb are on the scene investigating. and in the fate of a pacifica apartment complex that's dangerously close to falling in the pacific ocean

remains in limbo. during the winter of 2009 and 2010, heavy storms tore away at the cliffs. the apartments were red tagged and evacuated. they've remained that way ever since. the past four winters have been mild and the cliffs have remained unchanged. people living in the area want the apartments removed before the problem gets worse. it's 6:20. american airlines flight from phoenix to boston had to make an emergency landing because the pilot died mid flight. the first officer took over and landed the plane safely. there were 147 petitioners on

her birthday parties and it's not always for her. i'm so happy the kids are having fun. >> the mayor declared october 5th madie's day. police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found over the weekend. she hasn't been identified yet but her body was found at the intersection of john f. kennedy and chain of lakes drive. it appeared she suffered blunt force trauma to the head. 6:35. a former marine and harvard- educated lawyer has pleaded not guilty to the charges. he is accused of breaking into a home and abducting denise. she was later released more than 400 miles from her home. police originally thought the whole thing was a hoax. then in june he was arrested in connection with a different home invasion that happened in dublin, and investigators in that case found evidence

linking him to the the vallejo kidnapping. a former morgan hill teacher will serve four decades behind bars after being convicted of sexually abusing children. the 53-year-old sexually assaulted four girls. between 2012 and 2014. he was sentenced. yesterday a judge sentenced him to 40 years in prison. general mills is recalling more than two million boxes of cereal because it may contain wheat. they were made at a plant in lodi. they say wheat flour was used in a system that normally processes gluten free.

meanwhile back at the hall of justice, yes. we are having good weather out there. we are looking at conditions that are nice and clear for the most part, however, there are some clouds in the distance. this is looking out to the east bay where we have the low clouds hugging the shoreline on that side of the bay. we see it on the peninsula coast as well, and at the richmond san rafael bridge seeing it. that's kind of wa we're experiencing at the moment. temperatures on the cool side for most. we've got 59 in oakland and san jose, only a such warmer in san francisco. 60 there. a lut of mid 50s in the east bay. we're off to a nice cool start. temperatures should warm up nicely for the inland valleys. this is your forecast for the east bay valleys. we're looking at 80 for walnut creek, 81 for brentwood with most other locations in the upper 70s. to upper 70s to low 80s for the east bay valleys.

concord, martinez into walnut creek. we've got a couple incidents reported in the southbound direction really starting to jam up that ride. look at 280 in the northbound direction. the 26-minute trip time there. and 101 northbound has reached the 30-minute mark here for the northbound ride. tracking the bridges for you, bay bridge solid. over 30 minutes now your trip time from highway 24. the san mateo bridge getting slow westbound 23 to 26-minute trip times out of hayward. the golden gate bridge, problem free, slowing now in northern marin. earlier problems have left the southbound drive time at about 39 minutes to the bridge and your richmond ride solid from before the richmond park way.

deportations of immigrants in the u.s. illegally have declined for the third year. the obama administration deported over 231,000 people in the last 12 months. the administration also deported the fewest criminal immigrants since president obama took office in 2009 despite focusing resources. doctors have discovered a problem with heart valve implants that could affect hundreds of thousands of people. the valves are not opening or closing properly, possibly because of blood clots forming. the problems are specifically with valves from cow, pig or human tissue, not the chemical implants. experts stress that not enough is known to make changes in the practices that they're doing right now. the fda says the valves are safe and are worth the risk, is how they're viewing it.
