fill with water. officials telling us that it appears to have come from a broken water main. the sink hole also forced pg and e to shut off a gas line in the area to avoid any potential problems. people living in the area say they have never seen anything like this before. >> this is just incredible. i never thought this would happen right down the street from my house. it's blocking traffic, it's a lot of traffic and then it's causing attention and everybody wants to look at what's going on. >> late last night crews began pumping the water out of that hole and the westbound side is closed from fair ranch road to new haven street and that may not change for several days. crews still don't know what caused that sink hole in the first place. coming up, we'll be live in union city with an update. to san francisco now where police say a local photographer

was keeping child pornography images on his computer and was shooting video. >>reporter: he was in possession of thousands of images and videos of exploited children of various ages. he was arrested at his sunset district home earlier this month, and when they searched his computers, they also found video that was shot in japantown as well as pier 39. he would shoot video up the shirts of unsuspected women. he used his skill as a photographer to obtain the images, using a camera system similar to the one on your screen. the san francisco police department was working with home land security and the f.b.i.

during the investigation and say they're still investigating where he got the images and who he was distributing them to. sfpd says getting him off the streets was a high priority. >> they found thousands, and i mean thousands of pornographic videos and photographs of children all under the age, engaged with sexual acts. >> police say this is still an open investigation and they're still looking for possible victims. this morning friends and family are mourning the death of three south bay teenagers. they were all killed in a car crash tuesday night in san jose. we first told you about this story yesterday. it happened in an area of santa clara and 22nd street just before 11:00 tuesday night.

officials believe two cars were racing when one spun out hitting a pole and hitting a tree. the honda was an unreported stolen car. last night friends and family held a vigil to remember the victims. >> he was shy, very quiet. she was loved dearly. >> there's no words how dearly we'll miss her. >> a fourth victims remains in the hospital. it hasn't been determined if drugs or alcohol were a factor. police arrested a pittsburg woman after she committed numerous crimes. 34-year-old rebecca white went on a crime spree back in september. she's accused of stealing items at local gyms.

police say she then stole a victim's car and went on a shopping spree. she's been held on $500,000 bail. the man accused of starting a fire at a bay area wal-mart will make his first appearance in court. he set fire to the halloween section of a wal-mart store. police haven't said why he did it. he's being held now in jail. we'll let you know if we find out what his motives were. nearly two billion dollars. that's how much california's recent wildfires cost the state. the latest fire was the third most damaging fire in state history. it killed four people. the economic losses forecast in the fire are more than 1.$5 billion. then there's the butte fire. that was the state's 7th most damaging wildfire in history. two people died in that fire and caused an estimatessed $450

million in damage. photographers released by -- i should say photographs released show eight officers helping the victims of the valley fire. they provided law enforcement support and assisted families who had lost everything, bringing supplies and even offering support. well, the f.b.i. now looking for a man who has been deemed the droopy-faced

. 4:13. we're here in the weather center. looking at storm tracker 4. so nice to be able the see rain out there. >> i know. there's a lot of folks looking forward to the rain. we need it. and we're looking at scattered showers. it's all light in nature. we could see thunderstorms as well before noon, so we've got to keep that in mind, so i would grab the umbrella, especially this morning if you've got kids heading out to the bus stop. let's zoom in on some of these areas. if you're on the east bay, all

looking at really light rain falling down and it looks like we are seeing wet pavement out there. for our friends in the south bay, also right rain for san jose, out toward evergreen. you can see it's scattered in nature. and for half moon bay still looking at light rain coming through. it looks like another wave of moisture coming from the coast and will be moving basically east ward toward land. also san francisco looking at light rain as well out toward the inner richmond, outer richmond. it looks like the golden gate bridge getting light rain. and the north bay getting in on some of this action. we are seeing light activity just basically west of wood acre right now. the north bay may see a shot of rain here and there. most of it should be falling to the south bay and east bay.

here's how your forecast is shaping up in san jose. 67 degrees at this hour. by lunchtime, 75. we should be going for a high of 81 degrees for the afternoon, and then for this evening, temperatures should be cooling down. i'm expecting a dry ride home for later tonight, but again this morning you may be encountering wet roads. temperatures right now, it's mild if not warm. 75 in antioch. 63 in oakland, low 60s in downtown san francisco. all of us waking up to cloudy conditions. east bay shore looks like this for today. temperatures continue their cooldown. mid 70s for oakland, upper 70s in fremont, so the cloud cover will help keep those temperatures down. for our inland spots we'll see low 80s. 80 in danville, 83 in livermore. potentially mid 80s in brentwood and upper 70s in

martinez. here's a look at your next three days. we finish off the work week a little cooler on friday. i'm expecting dry conditions for friday. then on saturday generally mostly cloudy skies. a little cooler as well. upper 70s inland and we are looking at a slight chance of showers, this time on saturday. there will be a system coming in from the north, so the north bay, you've got the best chance of showers on saturday, and looks like the rest of the weekend on sunday should be drying out. time is 4:16. we'll do some drive times here. your drive no hercules into berkley on interstate 80 will take you about 15 minutes. no major slowdowns. antioch to concord on highway 4 will take you also 15 minutes. do keep in mind that because of the late rain, you may see wet roads. looking at concord to walnut creek on 242, that will take you about 8 minutes or so.

so we're looking at very light traffic conditions. from walnut creek down the dublin on 680, that will take you about 16 minutes. so no major hot spots to report, but when we do see light rain coming through, sometimes we'll see an uptake in accidents, so we'll keep you posted. back to the news. let's head to the east bay in san ramone. maybe you felt one of the two dozen earthquakes that shook the area. kron4 decided to find out if there's any cause for concern. >> i thought i had been dreaming. >> it wasn't anything that knocked me out of bed. it did wake me up. >> i thought someone had slammed the door. >>reporter: dozen of quakes, tightly clustered.

seismologist calls them pesky but not concerning. >> typical behavior that we see in the san ramone area. we've had four significant swarms in the alamo, danville, san ramone area since 1970. some of these have lasted a couple months. >>reporter: millions of school kids and other california residents will take place in the great shake out practicing what to do in a quake. it's also a good time to make sure you and your family are prepared for the big one. >> you have a disaster plan in terms of how you're going to commute with others, do you have food and water, both at work and at home so you can live several days without common utilities. >> as grant said, the great shakeout is scheduled for later this morning. schools and university account for most of the participants in that disaster drill. organizers say more than 10 million californiana, slated to take place. we'll be live in oakland where

officials are going to be holding a shakeout drill and they'll have the big shake simulator. the search continues for two suspects after a teenager was shot and killed in syracuse, new york. earlier in the evening police responded to reports of shots fired in a neighborhood. a car took off from the scene and somebody in that car started shooting at police. officers found an injured 17- year-old and a 15-year-old dead on the back porch of that home. syracuse university's campus was on emergency lockdown but that alert has since been lifted. police are hoping they're one step closer to catching the person that stabbed spencer stone? in sacramento last week. police have released new images showing what they think is the

suspect's car. these are surveillance images just outside of a night club. video from a nearby business shows stone during the attack last week. he was stabbed three times but is expected to make a full recovery. a 19-year-old is dead and his younger brother is in serious condition this morning after being beaten at a church in new york. the beating was intended to get them to confess their sins, and now their parents face manslaughter charges. >>reporter: it happened in what was supposed to be a house of worship. this former school building in new hartford, new york, now home to a church with a small following called the world of life church. police say after those sunday services, two young members of the church were brought to the sanctuary for a counseling session. 19-year-old lucas leonard and his 17-year-old brother, christopher. >> the session turned physical. both brothers were subjected to

physical punishment over the course of several hours in hopes that each would confess to sins and ask for forgiveness. >>reporter: no world on what their alleged sins were but the 19-year-old later died. his 17-year-old brother remains in serious condition. their parents were arrested and charged with first degree manslaughter. both pleaded not guilty. four other church members were also arrested, including the brothers' sister. they also pleaded not guilty. the beatings have prompted questions about the church and its members. >> we would have never guessed anything was going on or wrong. >>reporter: the attorney for deborah leonard told me he thought the facts were peculiar and does not believe his client

. we are back. 4:30 is the time. starting this half hour with the story that's going to impact you as you head out the door, which is the scattered showers that we're seeing around the bay. we talked about the possibility of it yesterday. >> you can see storm tracker 4 is busy. we've got shots of showers throughout the bay area into san francisco, parts of the

east bay, south bay and also coming into the north bay as well. so this morning's commute is going to be a wet one for some folks. here's a look at what we're seeing, light rain activity scattered in nature. also parts of martinez and concord. walnut creek for now, you're drying out but we did see light rain go through about 15 minutes ago. and also the south bay being looing at light -- looking at light rain. we're also tracking moisture out toward half moon bay. downtown san francisco also getting rain earlier this morning, but now it's falling in parts of north beach right now, so it looks like parts of the outer richmond getting rain, and also at the north bay we're looking at dry conditions, but 30 minutes ago we saw light rain near san

rafael. it will be cloudy all day and we will hold on to the chance for showers throughout the morning hours. a lot of it should be dying down by lunchtime. at 11:00, maybe scattered showers, primarily in the south bay. you can see the sierra nevada getting storm activity for the afternoon hours. we can't rule out the possibility of maybe a rumble of thunder, lightning as well for the bay area. by 4:00 i think most of us should be drying out. we may have a stray shower or two, but for most people it should be a dry evening commute. here's a quick check of how your day planner looks for san francisco. 61 degrees and cloudy skies. by lunchtime we'll hit upper 60s to low 70s at 2:00 today, that's our high. it will be kind of muggy when you factor in the fairly mild to warm conditions, the cloudy skies and rain. here's a quick check of your

traffic. i am tracking an accident on southbound 280 at 380 and there may be an overturned vehicle. if you're in south san francisco traveling out toward 280, you may want to avoid that area. one alternate would be taking southbound 101 this morning. a quick check of your bridges, the bay bridge looks good here. a little bit of a line for the cash pay lanes but otherwise you can see light traffic conditions. san mateo bridge looking good here. traffic has picked up a little bit but still it's a smooth ride in both directions on 92. golden gate bridge, there was some light rain falling, so you may want to take it easy if you're heading southbound on 101 this morning. and your richmond san rafael shot looks quiet here. let's get to the east bay. happening right now, crews in

union city are trying to figure out how to repair a sink hole at an intersection between the middle school and fire station. that hole opened up wednesday. will tran is standing by live now with the latest on those efforts. good morning, will. >>reporter: good morning. they've been here about 14 hours. here's what you need to know. avoid this area. this will take all day and possibly a little bit into tomorrow to make the repairs. new information to pass along. we now know what caused the sink hole, or at least speculation by the crews. i spoke to one of the supervisors. it has not been raining, of course, to sink holes usually don't happen when it's 85 degrees outside, but in this case they believe possibly one of the pipes under ground was leaking undetected and that might have caused the sink hole to happen at around 2:00 yesterday afternoon. when it happened, it was dry. you can see the water right

there. you see the asphalt coming down. they believe when that happened, it might have ruptured one of the water lines underneath there and that caused water to spill all over the roadway, so they had a 1-2 punch. the sink hole and minor flooding in this area. not to mention there are gas lines that run underneath the streets, and that's why pg and e is here. there are two nearby schools. it is also impacting the schools. coming up, i'll tell you what you need to know as a parent, and how many people are impacted by the water, because there are some customers this morning that might have very little pressure or no pressure at all. i'll have all of that coming up in 30 minutes from now. back to you. >> lots to follow. thank you for the update. we'll check back with you in a little bit. foster children on the verge of losing their home.

>>reporter: save our home. help us save the children's village. we need houses. donate money. the emergency signs are up, and kids here at sonoma county childrens village are begging for help. we can't use her name or show this girl's face but she is a foster child here. when she heard the news that her home was going to close and she would be placed elsewhere, she was devastated. >> and they told us and i was the first one to cry. >>reporter: a new state law has passed which will close all group homes in favor of single- family foster homes. the children's village is unique in that siblings can live here together, something that usually doesn't happen. the young girl we've spoken with has written letters to president obama, her state senator, ellen degeneres and even taylor swift. >> i live in a group home called the childrens village.

it's getting closed down. the group home is a place where foster children go. all the kids here don't think of it as a group home, they think of it as a real home. >>reporter: those who donate to the home, they would like state funding. the girl we spoke to is doing what she can to make the best of her tough situation. >> i just take it one journey at a time. i mean rainbows come and go. life always stays. >>reporter: keep in mind 20% of the funding for this program comes from private donors, donors like 49ers great joe monday who still supports this mon tana. the three suspects accused of killing a hiker and back

packer made their first court appearance wednesday. they did not enter pleas in that courtroom. cameras not allowed either. but since their arrest, the three suspects had their heads shaven. they're charged with murder and accused of lying in wake for the victims, which makes them eligible for the death penalty. an initiative would ask voters to strengthen gun laws. it proposes a background check requiring owners to report lost or stolen guns. polls have showed support for the restrictions. if adopted, the initiative would make california the first state in the nation to require background checks at the point of sale for ammunition. still ahead, finding

people around the world. the images capture what people look like what they're absorbed in their mobile devices. at first eric set up the shoots with people he knew, he had them pose and then he removed the devices. he then moved on to asking strangers if he could photograph them. >> i don't want to say people are using their phone too much. it's just they're using them more than they ever have, so with any social change, i think there should be awareness of it. >>reporter: i asked eric which picture was his favorite, he said they all were, but if he had to choose, he likes the one of him and his wife in bed on their devices. >> one of the first nights i fell asleep and i woke up to the sound of my phone hitting the floor and i look over at my palm and my hand was still open like i was holding the device. that's kind of when it all came together in my mind, i thought

. 4:45 is the time. we've got storm tracker 4 lit up this morning. let's get to anny on the showers we're seeing. >> the shower activity is decreasing a little bit right now. here's a live look at storm tracker 4. it's scattered in nature. some of it falling here in san francisco, also parts of the east bay and south bay. zoom in on the east bay. you can see out toward richmond and berkley, we just have light shower activity and we're seeing a little bit of shower activity for martinez as well. most of it is light in nature. in the south bay, just a little fell south and west of coopertino. we're looking at downtown san francisco and the outer

richmond getting light rain at this moment. sausalito, part of you will be getting light rain this morning. for the north bay it's mostly dry with the exception of showers out toward inverness and scattered shower activity toward napa. we are seeing wet pavement out there so keep that in mind as you head out the door. the reason we're seeing moisture is a system to the south and fairly warm rain that we're seeing. temperatures are going to be on the warmed side -- warm side today. i think most of it by the afternoon should be dying out with the exception of a stray shower or two, primarily in the south bay. it's kind of muggy out there for some locations. 75 in antioch.

380. just south of san francisco. there was a ramp that was closed due to an accident, but it looks like all lanes are open and we're waiting to get word on if that ramp is going to reopen soon, but again, there's an accident southbound 280 near 380, and an alternate for this would be taking southbound 101 this morning. no major slowdowns because traffic is still light at this hour. other drive times for you this morning, we'll check out your drive time for san jose, looking at very light traffic conditions. everything is green. let's check out other drive times. let me reset my computer here. it looks like on 24 from walnut creek out toward berkley, that will take you 12 minutes this morning, so nothing to slow you down so far. it's going to take you 14 minutes on interstate 880 the morning. do remember the roads may be a

is already full. >> we try public transportation to reduce the burden on the road but it's becoming more and more impossible to park. >>reporter: it's a busy station. bart's website even shows the parking lots here fill up by 7:25 in the morning. riders cannot park on the street. there is a two-hour limit. >> it makes me nervous about the sustainability of working in the city and commuting. it makes me nervous about our bart system. >>reporter: she wanted us to find out what bart is doing about adding more spaces. a spokesperson answered our questions via e-mail and wrote there is no room to grow. many stations are in densely- populated areas. there is no money to purchase real estate for parking lots or garages. also bart just raised parking fees over the summer. with that money, bart wants to

where he later died. this is the areas third officer- involved shooting within the past four weeks. what started as a child's birthday party has led to more than a dozen arrests and indictments on terrorism charges. 15 members of a group called respect the flag faced terrorism charges after driving a pickup truck through a suburb where a family was celebrating a child's birthday party. the trucks were flying large confederate flags. monday's indictment by the district attorney called the flag group a criminal street gang. party goers say they were threatened. >> they were free to go. they allowed these people to go. they used the n word and said they were going to kill people on my property. >> if convicted, each defendant could get 20 years in prison. a collected group of

musicians were invited to the white house to mark the 50th anniversary of the endowment for the arts. president obama and his wife hosted the program at the white house. the concert was hosted by carol burnett and included performance by usher, james taylor and smoky robinson. the 2-month-old puppy stolen has been returned safely. he was taken from a shelter last thursday. a good samaritan said he got the dog from someone on the street who was about to let the puppy go. he looks happy, healthy and looking for a permanent home. police still searching for the person who stole the puppy. open oprah winfrey returns to daytime tv.
