welcome back every one right now are purely try across the bay area. we are tracking those showers on storm tracker 4. you can see to the north they are getting a little bit of shower activity. most about is scattered. just between palo alto and approaching cooper teal and sunnyvale. other than that not a lot going on. i think things could get more active by 7 o'clock. here is a look at futurecast. most of us should just have scattered showers. this model is showing some more organized showers coming from -- coming through by 7 o'clock in

san francisco but it o'clock. by 9:00 a lot of it is pushing to the east toward livermore valley. at 10 o'clock some scattered showers in the forecast. it continues through the noon hour . it lunchtime in the afternoon a lot of it will taper off. we could see some isolated thunderstorms this afternoon and some could produce heavy rain and some hail it. keep that in mind today. they will be isolated in nature. here's a quick check of our winter weather advisory from the sierras. more snow this is in effect until 7 o'clock tonight. snow falling down to 3500 feet from the higher elevations can get a lot more than that. rain chances going up to 50% or 80% today. the roads are going to be slick at times >> highs today mid-50s in livermore. 60 in san jose.

the dh in san francisco. 61 in napa and santa rosa. around the bay forecast you can see today is the stormy day but scattered showers and some thunderstorms possible for the afternoon for tuesday and wednesday drying out with plenty of sunshine for the rest of the week. the weekend looks pretty good. we are tracking another chance of showers over on sunday by next weekend. i am noticing traffic is picking up at the bay bridge toll plaza. higher volumes of traffic heading west approaching the pay date. a big difference since we last checked in. no delays or problems on the upper:. it is still a great right into san francisco but commuters are heading in right now. on the right-hand side of your screen you see the commute traffic heading to the peninsula. so far commuters are getting

when you get out, if you are in an area where it is raining, reduce your speed. i know you get tired of hearing that. >> but people keep getting in accidents. a quick check of your ride, san francisco is wide open with no delays at the toll plaza but it is definitely picking up. over to the san mateo bridge, a great ride here. if you have to make that connection with 92, it's at the limit for now getting to the peninsula so there are smooth conditions in both directions. to the golden gate, no problems at all. it will be an easy connection. this is the incident i want to show you in san jose. it's a spin out with one vehicle involved, one confirmed fatality, two major injuries on the expressway. that is south of the 87/85 split. there are no traffic delays. this will not impact the

have been talking about. you don't want to hydroplane so slow down and turn on your lights. it's the law if you have your wipers on. never drive through constantlying water because you don't know how deep it is. of course leave earlier so you don't feel rushed. breaking news, two american contractors are dead in the country of jordan after police opened fire on them. >> a new statement by jordan government says the deadly shooting happened at a police training center just outside of their capital in jordan. reports say a jordan lake damian, a policeman opened fire on foreign trainers killing two americans and a south african before being shot dead. two other americans are injured as well as four jordanians. security agencies launched an investigation. it is not clear whether the shooting was intentional. the government officials and u.s. embassy in jordan are not

commenting now and the names of the americans killed have not yet been released. back to you. >> thank you we'll check back as you get more information. happening today, the trial set to begin in a major organized crime case in san francisco. facing racketeering, murder, money laundering charges that could put him away for life if convicted. the former gang leader organized the murder in 2006. agents were investigating chow and were lead to a state senator. he took a plea deal and pleaded guilty to one count of racketeering. utility crews are trying to figure out what caused a water main to break in fremont. the water started flowing about 6:00 last night. crews got it shut off within an hour and found an eight inch crack on the water main. south bound parkway was closed

but north bound did stay open. both directions of highway 21 in sonoma are open after one person was hurt in a head on collision. the person suffered major injuries on 121 north of highway 37 near sonoma raceway. the crash was first reported around 7:00 p.m. the person injured was taken to the hospital. there's no word on how they're doing this morning. at least 23 families have no home after a fire destroyed an auto business and damaged nearby apartment building. san francisco's mission district. look at the flames that broke out about 8:00 yesterday morning in a tire shop at 16th and shot well street. kron4's viewer sent us this video. the store wasn't open when the fire started so nobody was hurt. but the fire did damage buildings and people did have to leave their homes. >> crews have done an incredible job in containing

the fire to the building. the adjacent buildings that we are watching to be sure it doesn't extend. as you imagine, with a tire shop, lots of fuel for the fire. >> another business has minor damage. the cause of the fire is under investigation. as for the evacuees and those who had to leave their apartments the red cross is helping. there are about two dozen families displaced by the fire at the tire shop. neighbors from the two buildings next to the shop had to run and leave everything behind when the fire started. so the red cross brought in a bus to help shelter the victims and it used mission hotel as a place for them to stay overnight. kron4 spoke with one woman who says she wasn't able to grab anything. she even had to leave behind her medication. >> we grabbed our dog and our phones. that's all we could get. >> i grabbed my wallet, my cell

phone, and my other bill fold with my credit cards. >> families were allowed to go back into their apartments yesterday afternoon and take what they could so that they're able to use some of their belongings. the red cross will help them find a place to stay while there are repairs made to their apartments. a college football team is caught up in a campus protest. students are calling for the president of the university of missouri to resign. students gathered on campus over the weekend to highlight complaints of racism on the overwhelming will i white campus. protests started last week when a student organized a hunger strike and accused leadership of not doing enough to address racism problems on campus. more than two dozen football players have joined the protest boycotting all football team activities. in fact the football team had to cancel practice yesterday and the players participating in the protests met with the

welcome back. 5:13. remember talking about the rain -- we are talking about the rain. here is a live look at storm tracker 4. >> i only caught a brief sprinkle on my way. it didn't look like much this morning but it looks like it will grow especially towards 7:00. i want to walk you through. there are three things to note about this system. it's going to give us rain throughout the day. two, it's going to bring snow to sierra and it will bring cold air. our overnight lows will drop quite a bit between now and wednesday. expect really cold mornings with this system. take a look at what's it's looking like. this is the satellite view from space. i will zoom in closer and switch to storm tracker 4 for the close up view of what we are seeing. it's the north day seeing most activity at the moment. as we zoom in you will see a cell of moderate to heavy rain

with lightning embedded in it beginning to make its way onshore. some of the wet weather is stretching far inland at santa rosa. this will continue in the direction of ronar park and petaluma as it continues to move to the east and south. this system will track south across the bay. let's slide the maps and look at the rain in the south bay, near santa cruz mountains. we have light showers for saratoga and that will continue to work into the santa clara valley. sliding further to the south, we have showers near ben lowman and along highway 17, that was centered along that stretch of roadway. if your commute takes you across highway 17 know that you have showers that will be making it wet throughout the course of the morning. here is where we are seeing more heavy showers inland now. santa cruz, all these showers are working inland. things will be wet for you.

if you are waking up and watching from santa cruz, you will be wet soon and the ride on 17 heading to the south bay is a wet one sporadically. it will get more organized. this is what it looks like right now. in the 4:00 and 5:00 hour you see scattered showers. that's what we are seeing live on the radar. at 6:00, we have more of the same. we have the cold front coming into view. it will continue to move over the bay over the next few hours. here is 7:00, mott rat to heavy showers across the bay area, at 8:00 it is centered over the center of the bay and towards 9:00 it is still impacting us mainly for the north bay, east bay, south bay. this is the entire morning commute. 7:00 to 9:00, things will be active and it will stay that way through 10:00 as well. towards noon you see the scattered showers stay with us. at 3:00, kids are getting picked up from school, you are making your way around doinger ands and we are looking at scattered showers for the east and south bay. it will begin to break up and

this evening. traffic will be diverted. stay away from that stretch. your ride across the san mateo bridge is crowded but it's moving. to the richmond san rafael bridge. even to the north bay, it will be a great ride. switching to the traffic maps, those traveling through san jose, crews are investigating a fatal crash south bound between camden and redmond avenue. that's closed. the good news is they have reopened the north bound lanes. it is not impacting traffic so far. this is south of the 8587 split. injured parties have been transferred to the hospital. there is one confirmed fatality and no estimated time for clearing. it is not slowing traffic much in the area. all east bay freeways are

great. 680, 580, 238. here is a quick drive time for the south bound ride, 25 minutes from 238 to 237. back to you already thank you. family and friends will say good-bye to a 6 year old autistic boy killed while police in louisiana were chasing his father. a funeral for jeremy mardis will be this afternoon. the boy died last tuesday in marksville, louisiana. city marshals fired into a vehicle driven by his father who was seriously wounded. state police fond no evidence that the father was armed at the time. two officers are facing charges of second degree murder and attempted second degree murder. crews in wisconsin are cleaning up a crude oil spill after a second train derailment in just two days. crude oil started leaking a of ten cars went off the tracks in watertown, wisconsin yesterday. nobody was hurt. saturday there was another train derailment in alma, wisconsin.

ethanol spilled into the mississippi river. watertown and al mar are about 200 miles apart. experts in meridian mississippi are expected to begin work to figure out what caused this restaurant parking lot to cave in over the weekend. 12 cars were swallowed. emergency crews were called to the ihop saturday night and found a section of the parking lot collapsed in. the hole is about 35 feet wide and 400 feet long. customers say they heard a series of booms and then the power went out. cars just started falling as the pavement gave way. >> a sink hole at the ihop. we found multiple vehicles there. we are trying to keep everyone away. >> no one was injured. to a story only on kron4. days before americans pause to give thanks to military veterans a local hero and his family in antioch were forced

out of their home because of a fire. the fire happened saturday morning. sergeant first class lionel barn am junior and his wife were already at work when they heard that their home was on fire. their 27 year old son was the only one in the home. he saw the smoke coming from the floors in his room, coming up from under the floor, and he thought it was coming from the garage so he ran outside and called 911. >> from what the investigators say it started from the garage, a faulty wire. you would never be able to see it because it is behind the wall. i know what it takes to keep my family together and get them back on their feet. >> he served in the military for 31 years and says the family is prepared to get through this because they're strong. he knows the road to recovery will be tough. the american red cross is helping them with housing and food. what is this! >> did you see that saturday

night? my wife said let's go inside. we thought it was a ufo. it was incredible. the strange light over the west coast on saturday night, dozens of viewers sent pictures and videos. people from california to arizona and nevada reported seeing this. it turns out the mysterious light was actually a missile. the light was a naval test fire off the coast from a submarine of a ballistic missile. they say it was unarmed. the coastguard launched from southern california. if you come across breaking news, download our app and use the report it button and you can easily send us photos. it was incredible. >> shouldn't you run? should you be out there shooting? >> i was out there looking a the it. it was creepy. still ahead we are tracking the radar.

fatal crash. >> satellite and radar showing us the wide view. we have a lot of activity. you see the speckled green and everything in the distance. that's cold air. that's going to be coming in with the system. not only can we expect rain by the bay and snow in the sierra but we are looking at cold overnight temperatures and that will be the second act of the system as it pushes through. let me show you what we are seeing as we zoom in closer and switch to storm tracker 4 which gives us a live radar sweep. you see december end showers onshore with some lightning there. this is areas just north heading in the direction of santa rosa with more nasty weather offshore. you see that's making a bee line for other portions of the north bay coastline, perhaps san rafael will get some decent rain out of this. it will be active during the morning commute. we are tracking that carefully. after today once this fizzles out this evening we will look

for things to clear nicely. tuesday and wednesday the sun comes back out but our temperatures hover in the low 60s for inland and bay shoreline spots. it's the overnight lows. we'll wake up tuesday and wednesday morning to really chilly conditions around the bay. we'll have more on that to come. we'll have a full weather check in a bit. now we send it to the traffic center. >> there is nothing causing major slow downs now but as you said the rain is on the way, and that will impact your commute. be prepared and give yourself extra time. double your drive time to be sure you get to your destination on time without any major delays because the wet roads will definitely slow down traffic and lead to a number of crashes for sure. a quick check of your ride into san francisco. it is backed up already. this is what we expect from 5:30 this morning. this slow down is right on time, backed up on the 880 over crossing, a great ride on the upper deck. it's less than 15 minutes from
