good morning, thanks for joining us, on kron4 weekend, we are tracking rain in the bay area this weekend, here's a live look at stormtracker 4 radar, you can see showers along the east bay in the highway 4 corridor near berkeley and walnut creek. we have complete team coverage, kron4's avery harper is in san francisco but let's start with meteorologist dave spahr tracking the weather in the weather center. >> hey there, we had rain, heavier up in the north bay, this is what is now left over, as you did point out over toward the east bay. from richmond of the way to walnut creek, a pastor of rain holding over there, there are a

few more they remain but we will make note of that, as you can see there's the coverage area, more will be coming off of the pacific. we keep that scattered shower activity long for this morning and cloud cover. the other thing to say about this is that although we are getting a breeze, too, we'll talk about that, we do have mild temperatures today, almost as what we had yesterday. here's a look at the numbers, in the 50s already, 57 daly city, 34 san francisco, not as chilly this morning in the north bay, 52 novato and santa rosa, 59. we had cloud cover overnight to support those temperatures. by the noon hour, upper 50s, by 5:00 p.m., body and mild with temperatures upper 50s. we'll take a closer look and let you know what to expect for the rest of your day. >> thank you. team coverage continues with kron4's avery harper reporting live from christie field in san francisco where rain might impact a charity event for the san francisco fire department. good morning, avery.

>> reporter: good morning, marty. here on christie field, we are starting to feel a few raindrops, nothing too heavy just yet and the wind is definitely blowing but i might affect a 5k scheduled here at the field today, it's called a santa hat run, and it is going to be people running in holiday costumes, including those santa hats, all to benefit the san francisco firefighters tour program which gives out 200,000 toys to 40,000 families here in the san francisco bay area throughout the year. now, i'm told that all of these people will be running from the field down toward the bridge, past alcatraz, seeing all of these different sightseeing places to see here, and it is all to benefit that toy program. now, if good deeds aren't enough to motivate you to come out here today, i'm told every entrance will be getting a medal that can double as a christmas tree ornament. i will be here to monitor the rainfall, and if it affect the event. back to you in the studio.

>> all right, thanks a lot. checking back in with you in a little bit. started breaking news, oversees an imminent security threat to the american consulate in istanbul, turkey. authorities are nothing what is behind the fright or who may behind it but the consulate compound has increased security measures. you can see there, expert police cars and barricades have been set up outside of the consulate. the message on the consulate website is encouraging u.s. citizens in turkey to, quote, maintain a high level of vigilance, be aware of local events and take appropriate steps to bolster personal security. also news from overnight, london police say they are treating an attack in the london subway station as a terrorist incident. metropolitan police say man stabbed three people before he was subdued with a stun gun and arrested. some british media outlets say bystanders heard the man shot, this is for syria, during the attack. none of the injuries to the victims are considered life- threatening this morning.

also new this morning, fbi agents raided a home belonging to a friend of san bernardino shooter syed rizwan farook yesterday. these are photos from the aftermath of the rate. a federal law source says the person who bought two rifles used by farook lives in that home. no word on what authorities were looking for or whether anything was taken away. authorities say farook and his wife, tashfeen malik, shot and killed 14 people at a holiday party wednesday. 21 others were injured. isis claims the shooters behind wednesday's deadly attack in california were supporters of the terrorist group. cnn's mary maloney reports that the isis message was the center of the weekly radio address from president obama. >> reporter: days after the massacre in san bernardino, isis hails they are responsible for killing 14 people and injuring 21 others as

supporters, they did not directly say there were members or that isis was responsible. the weekly address from president obama saturday focused entirely on the shooting and the influence of terrorist groups. >> it's entirely possible these attackers were radicalized to commit this act of terror. if so, it would underscore a threat we have been focused on for years. the danger of people succumbing to dangerous violent idealistic ideas. >> reporter: 29-year-old female shooter, tashfeen malik, posted a pledge of allegiance to the leader of isis at some point during the shooting. >> we know isil and other terrorist groups are actively encouraging people around the world and in our country to commit terrible acts of violence. often times, as lone wolf actors. >> reporter: as the couple's motivation for the attacks remains a key focus for the investigators, president obama is calling on congress for stricter gun laws. >> we may not be able to prevent every tragedy but at a bare minimum we should not be making it so easy for potential terrorists or criminals to get

their hands on a gun that they can use against americans. >> reporter: i'm mary maloney reporting. happening tonight, president obama will deliver a rare oval office address to the nation about what the government is doing to keep americans safe. his address will also touch on terror threats in the aftermath of the san bernardino attacks. kron4 will carry the address live, kron4's vicki liviakis will anchor that right here on kron4. still ahead, a big game at levi stadium. we explain why fans were upset by tough security. more than 100,000 cars being recalled this morning. we let you know which cars are being affected.

for your money this morning, here are stories that could affect your bottom line, chipotle is taking a hit after the e. coli outbreak at some restaurants pictures for the company fell 7% in late trading

friday. fourth-quarter sales are also projected to drop at least 8%. according to the cdc, 50 people in nine states were affected by the e. coli outbreak, although lower sales come it is pumping more money into new safety related measures including better training and more in- depth food safe teams. more than 100,000 dodge darts are being recalled, automaker fiat-chrysler is as an oil leak could damage the car's power braking system. seven accidents and two injuries have been blamed on the defect. the recall affects 2013 and 2014 darts with two leader and 2.4 liter engines. still ahead on kron4 weekend, the warriors do something that no major professional sports team has ever done. we will show you the highlights from golden state's latest record-breaking victory. let's take a live look outside, toll plaza bay bridge looking pretty good this morning, we have overcast skies in the bay area. for the weekend you can expect big crowds at the exploratory

and we are back on kron4 weekend, tracking the rain this weekend, taking a look outside, golden gate bridge on the left side of your screen, embarcadero on the right and we are keeping an eye on the snowfall in the sierra, this is a look at the kirkwook ski resort where they've had 5 inches of snow over the past week. this storm will not bring them a whole lot of snow, right? >> not a lot, probably the biggest thing if you're heading there, you'll get wind and sloppy conditions without coming back, because it is delayed, as things clear out here run the noon hour. well, you're probably already there. but on your weight back, you may have some of that.

we're looking at some of the rain hometown, we have it across the bay area as you will notice. let's get up to the north bay, or of of the east bay, rather. rain from richmond to walnut creek starting to break up a little bit, we will continue to monitor that as it comes in from the pacific. and toward the east. here it is, some composite for you, cloud cover will remain through the day today although i think we will see breaks in the clouds, that's nice. this is where most of the rain fell up north in the north bay. because we had cloud cover overnight, that helped support temperatures a little bit. we are off to amounts start, really. look at these numbers, lower 50s all around the perimeter of the day. we will probably better these numbers by the 5 degrees today for the high. that's about it. not a lot of temperature movement since we are mild to start off. up north bay, 50 or so on those readings, 54 going on for san francisco. the other factor, i was talking to marty about your trip up in the mountains, up in the way of

wind. we have some left over in the bay as you can see from future cast but they settle down quite quickly this afternoon. it's a little bit of a breezy morning and settling a little bit into the afternoon because of the passage of the front. we are noticing a big change temperature wise as it moves on through. let's go into future cast in terms of the rain and get a general idea of everything we are talking about. there you can see it off the pacific containing to the day, going on until 3:00 p.m. models still show a couple of washes out there but most concentration will be in the morning hours. cloud cover however will remain all the way into the afternoon and evening. tonight, even into your monday, starting monday op-ed about 5:00, you can see quite a bit of that cloud cover still remaining all the way until about 7:00 a.m., and tomorrow afternoon, variable cloudy story but we will end with a mild patch when this is all said and done. east bay shoreline temperatures, how the lower 60s on there? that's not bad. alameda 60, richmond 61, berkeley matching that, too. a bit warmer off of the east,

we still have upper 50s making their way over there. there is more green, more attention on their for wednesday into thursday, another batch getting in here, there you can see temperatures now finally drop up and yet not another batch into saturday. marty? >> dave, thanks. in bay area news, a teenage get together over the holiday weekend ended in a tragic loss of in oakland high school student. his friends are grieving but they have fond memories of him. kron4's jeff pierce caught up with some of them at the location where the tragedy occurred. >> reporter: a tree collapsed at oakland lake merritt, taking the life of 16-year-old jack lewis on the night of and in this land adolescence operation. after sunset friday evening, high school friends gathered near children's ferry land to acknowledge a moment in their lives. >> it was this girl's birthday. and there were a lot of people over there at the park and we were coming up to meet up with

everybody. >> reporter: as they waited for everyone's it arrival, the adventuresome members of the group climbed up a tree near the edge of the lake. >> there were people sitting on the branch, and jeff jumped up to hang on it and it fell. >> reporter: saturday morning, those friends met once more to mourn the loss and create a makeshift memorial on what remained of the tree. >> we all waited until we were able to save him. after. it just doesn't feel really real. >> reporter: he was a super -- >> he was a super handsome dude. he was super nice to me. every time he saw me, he was super happy to see me, super happy to see everyone. >> reporter: it's a happiness that eludes these friends with jack this holiday season, in oakland, jeff pierce, kron4 news. turning to sports this morning, the warriors are still perfect after a close call last night in toronto, once again it was steph curry who led the charge for golden state. first-quarter action, curry

puts the dubs up by 11 without 3-pointer, there was a scary moment with steph curry and a step through on a finger roll, he goes down and land face first into the shoulder of demari carrol. he would have to leave the game but would be back in a big way in the fourth quarter. toronto up by 1, curry hits the 3 and finishes the game with 44 points, warriors win by a final of 112-109, the warriors improve to 21-0, best start in the season by any team in four major sports. the dubs go for 22 in a row tonight against the brooklyn nets. tipoff is set for 3:00 in new york. football, the stanford cardinal paying for the pac-12 changing shift, taking on the usc trojans. moved to quarter three, kevin hogan, bouncing off tacklers,

into the end zone for the cardinal touchdown. moving out of the fourth, hogan would find a wide open christian mccaffery who goes untouched into the end zone, mccaffery takes it all the way, he broke barry sanders' record for all-purpose yards last night picking up 164 yards against usc including 200 yards rushing, giving him a season total of 34 -- 330 -- 334 yards. stanford go on to win, the cardinal find out later today which ballgame they will go to, likely the rose bowl. security was out in full force during last night's game at levi stadium. kron4 was there and we spoke with fans who say they were frustrated by heightened security. >> reporter: known for the labyrinth of metal gates and parking lots, it's no easy task for some fans to get into levi stadium. >> i understand the recent events, i understand the heightened security. >> reporter: blankets on roles,

pockets emptied, and beers child before anyone could get into the stadium as santa clara police look on. this woman and her niece turned away because their purses violated levi stadium stretch back policy. >> to be called -- told that i can't enter a venue because i'm an inch and a half over and guideline is just ridiculous. >> reporter: the stadium bans any bags over 4.5 by 6.5 inches unless they are covered in plastic, and while some compare this security to the tsa -- >> it's frustrating at this point. >> reporter: this is nothing compared to the ocean of police officers we are told to anticipate for the super bowl next year. three weeks ago, the stadium held a massive security training exercise that was supposed to be open to the media, but closed after the paris terror attacks which included suicide bombers near soccer stadium. even after most fans were in their seats, federal agents brought bomb sniffing dogs by

of the scene that also shows the man just before he was shot and killed. authorities say the man robbed a bank of america branch and gave the teller a note saying he had a bomb. when police arrived, investigators say the suspect ran into a barbershop and came out with a straight edged razor. after a brief standoff with police, the man raised his hand with the razor and was shot. one witness says the police action was justifies. >> the feeling i have behind it is it was sketchy because the police officers are getting a bad rap across the world but this particular situation, they tried to calm him down for good amount of time. they gave him enough opportunity to surrender. >> the fbi and miami beach police are still investigating the situation. and i'm watching later this morning, a couple of scattered showers making their presence known in the east bay, you can see east of berkeley, that's breaking up a little bit. there is still more out to the pacific, we'll keep you up-to-date on what's going on with that.

and we are back on kron4 news weekend, tracking the storm this morning that is washing through the bay area and hitting parts of the north bay especially. we are taking this live look outside, embarcadero camera this time, overcast skies, not a whole lot of witness appearing on the pavement there, dave. >> just enough to make it slippery in some spots. some spots washout in the city, not much in the way of wind, although breezy conditions will

remain probably up this morning about that, that's the other factor with all of this. but, mild, too. that's the thing, it's warmer today than yesterday. and we have this cold front of allegedly that has come back to our door. don't expect much of his temperature change, this is what is generating force, some precipitation. there you see in developing, pretty much looks like it's following the perimeter, if you will, of the bay bridge right there, just south of us, you can see, extending all the way from san francisco to about oakland as you can see on that particular shot. that is the latest cell that we see ortho bit of activity going on right now. this organic situation will continue to change as we continue to watch it. here it is in motion, as you heard earlier, pretty much the heavy rains were up north in the north bay earlier today, there were some breezy conditions in the pre-dawn hours, we keep that in the forecast. breaking it down for you by the noon hour, temperatures hardly budge, keeping a lot of cloud cover here, keeping scattered showers. as a mentioned, we get to the

families. >> reporter: target practice. learning how to load and shoot. many are now on alert. >> with all these instances, it has become a need instead of a want. people need, and are taking the initiatives to be prepared. >> reporter: the shooting in san bernardino was only three days ago. since then, jay feliciano from bay area firearms say their phones have been ringing nonstop. >> we've had an influx of people calling, inquiring, trying to schedule classes to be prepared for any instance. >> reporter: at target masters west, george brought his son, virgil junior, to practice. and, it's not just firearms and training that these folks are here for. >> you kind of always have to be a little bit on alert. >> reporter: they also want to know what to do if they find themselves face-to-face with a

masked shooter. >> concern situations you need to be able to defend yourself. >> reporter: specialist say there are three things to remember. run, hide, and tiffany prevents itself, then you fight. alecia reid, kron4 news. new this morning, isis claims responsibly for deadly explosion in yemen that killed the governor of the southern province along with six of his bodyguards. officials say the governor was traveling to his office in a convoy sunday morning when his car exploded. isis released a statement saying it detonated with a car with explosives. the terrorist organization promised more operations against government officials in yemen. happening right now, protesters continue in chicago following new details of a teenager shot and killed by a police officer. newly released police reports are dramatically different compared to the dashcam video of the shooting death of laquan mcdonald in october 2014. but, the police report says mcdonald raised his nikon officer jason van dyke, but in

the video, he is seen walking slightly away from the officers when he is suddenly shot. and there is no side of mcdonald raising a knife. multiple officers backed up van dyke's report displacing the dashcam footage. van dyke is waiting to face a judge on first-degree murder charges. concord police are looking for a suspect in the shooting on highway 242. police say people in two cars exchanged gunfire around 3:30 yesterday afternoon. one man was hit several times while driving on the highway between grant street and concord avenue exits. the shooting shut down southbound lanes four hours but were eventually reopened. the injured person was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. police say the person they're looking for me have been driving a silver suv. the holidays are fast approaching and so is the season for package leaves. now a fremont family is sharing surveillance video of a man stealing seven boxes worth of $800 worth of their christmas gifts.

they tell kron4 they hope someone recognizes the man before he strikes again. >> reporter: caught on camera, this, the alleged thief. and with help from neighboring surveillance cameras, ran off with the car he used to pull the heist. >> he was driving past, saw some boxes on the front porch and made three trips to drag seven boxes to the car. >> reporter: in a mason filed a police report after discovering the theft friday afternoon. she was away from her home in fremont's mission san jose a neighborhood when the man swept boxes. neighbors later found some ripped a packaging on the roadway but none of the items were inside. >> they don't want to have packages so their evidence, they connections or gifts in the back, no questions asked. but if you have something with my address, that could lead to suspicions. >> reporter: mason says despite a car being parked in the driveway and cars parking inside the house, this man still walked up to grab the

packages not knowing he was on camera. >> we just want to get that guys face out there and help them get caught or scare him enough to not do this anymore and not have it happen to other people. >> reporter: a neighbor wrote down the license plate of what is believed to be a 2010 silver chevy equinox but they appear to be registered to another car. so mason thinks even the getaway car is stolen. package that's seem to be happening all over the bay area, causing homeowners like mason to take notice, then change of packages are received or delivered. >> ship everything to fedex or ups insert about home. we do that with the rest of our packages. that is not a temptation for somebody to come onto your porch. we also ask shippers to put them in a place you can see them, behind the staff -- fence. pretty yellow sticky to not leave packages here. >> reporter: in fremont, philippe djegal, kron4 news. security cameras catch not one but two different suspected

there has been a problem with milk theft in san jose, thick rims ask that we don't mention the neighborhood or straight but say they have been hit multiple times. about a mile away, a whole block has been hit. this mailbox is supposed to be a secure mailbox but look at this, it has been damaged by the grill the box open. residents tell me mailbox thieves are going as far as using crowbars to break into what is considered the most secure mailbox. it has come to the point where sensors are placed in mailboxes automatically alerting homeowners when mailboxes are being tampered with. and, then there's a huge lockbox to keep their mail and parcel say. if not, mailboxes end up looking like this. and their mail a stolen. this mailbox actually has not one, not two, but three separate blocks. usually the bandit follows the

mailman around or other delivery services, then snatched the mail. while they still your mail, they are stronger identity. some people can say, they can still my mail, it is just bills. it is still a crime. one resident told me she refused to put a lock on her mailbox but again, she is in a mail store. she says if it gets stolen, she will visit it. if a suspected thief is caught on camera, a camera can also catch a license plate turnover to police and san jose police. it's a sad state of affairs when have to lock down our entire life but it is what it is. for now, be aware. mail theft is a growing problem. in south san jose, stanley roberts, kron4 news. if more good people had concealed carry permits, then we could and those muslims before they go and kill anyone. >> still ahead on kron4 news weekend, university president is under fire for comments made about gun control.

and we are back on kron4 news weekend. we are tracking the storm this morning as you can take a look outside, golden gate bridge on the left, on the right, the embarcadero, also keep an eye on the sierra with possible snow as we take a live look at kirkwood resort, possible new snow. meteorologist dave spahr is

here to tell us how much longer this storm will last. >> they are probably looking at a morning event, scattered shower event, not something that will interrupt your plans to much going forward. that's the good news, and also mild temperatures. we'll get to that part of the forecast. >> any wind to tell us about? >> we hear breezy conditions, for a few hours but nothing real, real heavy. kind of like the front page enough in our backyard here. it did produce rainfall amounts of a quarter inch and beyond up in sonoma county, order to the south under marin county, it really starts dropping off, some locations may be up to a quarter inch, in higher elevations, but elsewhere, very modest. when you get down to san francisco and elsewhere, even in the east bay which we did show you a couple of splotches on radar, this batch of rain has broken up in the last couple of frames. amounts from the each bay have been under a 10th of an inch or so far but it's possible they may clock upwards. here it is

lined up for you, there is still a little bit more up screen, but this is a disorganized front falling apart in our backyard. and mild, too. take a look at the temperatures. everybody in the 50s it looks like, a few 40s, mid to upper 40s we found on the far east bay, the nine santa rosa, 52 novato. let's get to the precipitation part of the program, watch to the west, that's where everything is coming in from. you can see from the southwest by 3:00, we call it a mostly cloudy scoria, a couple of spices and spindles are possibility, by showers. don't forget there might be a little bit fighting with the radar, by 2:00 and we clear out a little bit but not totally, that's the one thing about this front, it's not giving us clear separation of everything. sure, we will see more sun tomorrow than we do today and it will affect temperatures but a variable cloudy story at this. let's get to those temperatures to make note of. today, warm-up, 60s covering the east bay, peninsula and down to the south bay, cooler up in the north bay. by 6:00 p.m., back to the

business of upper 50s entered 40s overnight. for your monday, again, a nice warm up, looks like almost everybody getting into the 60s tomorrow, we stay mild to the middle of the week. until a new system comes our way. and in select temperatures today at about 60-ish, that is mirrored along the bay shoreline, 63 redwood city, these numbers seem balmy compared to what we had yesterday. there ago monday, a few little scattered clouds remain with all of this program until wednesday, it looks like the timing on this, wednesday afternoon, earliest, through the wednesday commute, through thursday, and lingering a little bit friday morning. marty? >> we'll keep the umbrellas handy. thanks a lot. decision 2016, democratic presidential candidates are trying to change laws surrounding medical marijuana. right now it is illegal for doctors to study effects of marijuana on illnesses like ptsd or anxiety. but now, some democrats running

for president are pushing for that to change. kron4's national correspondent has that story. >> i would like to move it from what is called schedule 1 to schedule 2. >> reporter: and with that, all 2016 democrats not support easing national marijuana laws. here's how it works. >> researchers at universities at the national institute of health start researching what's the best way to use it? how much to dose for somebody? how does it interact with other medications? >> reporter: in schedule 1, restrictive categories, youth find things like heroin, lsd and marijuana. but get this, in schedule 2, a less serious classification, drugs like cocaine, fentanyl, and meth. at georgetown's health law institute, a team of attorneys is pushing for change. >> we need scientific evidence to know whether there are actual benefits for medical marijuana. whether there are harms of

overcast is what is affecting most people, gleaming looking -- gloomy looking skies with rain showers. you can see what remains towards the east bay. you can see while there is stuff at the bridge but on the east bay, a little bit of rain going on right along the bay bridge, that has sent -- since dissipated a little bit. however, there is a little bit more upstream. scattered showers, still in the forecast for at least the morning hours. i will look at how we break things down by the noon hour. variable clouds at that point. a scattered shower here or there temperatures in the upper 50s. miles from the beginning and in fact, last hour about 46 going in from some of the in the valleys. mostly cloudy scenario, mild with temperatures still holding in the 50s. speaking of the breakdown for the day, the raiders versus the cheats going on in oakland, 60 at 1 pm, game time at 1:05 pm. there is a mention of a shower

in the sierra with a live look at kirkwood ski resort that they had 5 inches of snow this past weekend. expecting more later this week. the current storm will not give them a lot. >> probably if you are going there and you hear us or if you are streaming as driving home, a little bit of a travel issue with some of that. the wind gust will get up to about 30 miles per hour or so. >> that is good to know because so many people from the bay area will be driving home later on. >> it is delayed so when it clears up around 1 pm, it will not clear up there until late this evening into the early hours. what is going on for radar, we have showers holding together a little bit in the east bay and that is where the concentration has been in the last hour, you can see it. breaking up -- in the center and a kind of spans out to some of the help out there in the far east bay a little bit. beyond that point, what is going on upstream, we have a source of moisture coming off the pacific and that will continue through today. it is a disk -- disintegrating front.

a look at the video, coming in this morning to the newsroom of the scene. it shows the man before he was shot and killed. authorities say that he robbed a bank of america branch. gave the teller a note saying that he had a bomb. police arrived and investigators said the suspect ran into a barbershop and came out armed with a straight edge razor. after a standoff with police, the man raised his hand with a razor and that is when he was shot. one witness says that the police action was justified. >> the feeling i have behind it is that the police officers are getting a bad rap across the world but this particular situation, they tried to calm him down for a good amount of time and gave him end up opportunity to surrender. >> the fbi and miami beach police are investigating the bank robbery. a monitor on the rain showers, still holding together in parts of the bay area. they look at satellite and

the police report says that mcdonald raised his knife at officer jason vandyke but in the video, mcdonald is seen walking slightly away from the officers when he shot there is no sign mcdonald raising the knife. multiple officers backed up jason vandyke's report despite seeing the footage. jason vandyke waits to face a judge on first-degree murder charges. holidays are fast approaching and so is the season for package thieves. a family and sharing surveillance video of a man stealing seven boxes full of $800 worth of their christmas gaps. they tell kron 4 that they are hoping that someone recognizes the man before he strikes again. >> caught on camera. >> reporter: this is the alleged thief. with help from neighboring -- neighboring surveillance

cameras, snapshots of the car he used to pull the highest. >> he was driving past and saw boxes on the porch and came up and made three trips to take seven boxes to his car. >> reporter: she has filed a police report after discovering the theft on friday afternoon. she was away from her home in fremont's mission san jose neighborhood when the man swiped the boxes. neighbors found some of the ripped up packaging on the roadway. but none of the items were inside. >> they do not want to have packages with our name so they are getting rid of evidence. they can have shoes or presence in the bag no questions but if they have my address, that can lead to suspicion. >> reporter: she says that despite a car parked in the driveway and dogs barking inside the house, this man still walked up to the porch and grabbed these packages, not knowing that he was on camera. >> we want to get his face out there and help him get caught were scare him enough to not do this anymore and have it not happen to other people. >> reporter: a neighbor broke down the license plate of what is believed to be a 20 ton silver chevy equinox but they appear to be registering of a car. she thinks that the getaway car is stolen. package that seems to be

wheel back on kron 4 news weekend and in the south bay, mail thieves caught on camera. kron 4 stanley roberts takes a look in this edition of people behaving badly. >> reporter: watch closely as the malibu pulls up to a mailbox in the south side of san jose. another car, this time a woman, pulls up to the same mailbox. the woman exits her car, checks the mail and is on her way. you are looking at security camera video captured by homeowner. a problem with mail theft in some sections of san jose. the victims asked that we not mention the neighborhood. they say they have been hit multiple times. about a mile away, a whole black has been hit. this mailbox is supposed to be a secure mailbox. look at this. it has been damaged. they drilled the box open. residents tell me that the

mailbox thieves are going as far as using crowbars to break into what is considered secure mailboxes. it comes to a point that sensors are placed in mailboxes that alert the homeowner when the mailboxes being tampered with. letter locker. it resembles a huge a lockbox, to keep the mail say. if not, the mailboxes end up looking like this with the mail explosives -- expose. this mailbox actually has not one, not two, but three separate locks. following the mailman around -- and then snags the mail. why are they stealing well? many sadist is to your identity although some people say that they can steal my mail. it is only bills. it is still stealing and it is a federal crime. one resident i spoke to said she refused to put a lock on her mailbox but then again she had never had her mail stolen. when pressed, she said if it gets stolen, she will revisit.

we are back on kron 4 news weekend, tracking the rain this morning and a live look outside. golden gate bridge on the left and on the right, it looks like the barca darrell. lower right, -- the embarcadero. we see a situation in the sierra at kirkwood resort where they expect wind and snow, up to 30 miles per hour. >> of the golden gate, one of the towers is gone -- you can see with the moisture in the atmosphere, we are getting five. plan on that if you will be around the perimeter of the bay little bit or the coast. that will be a feature, the marine layer. checking out where the rain is, storm tracker 4, appearing on the radar as this front is at the backyard, closer inspection of the east bay, san ramon down to dublin. we have showers going on right now as we speak. going further to the west, along the peninsula, pacifica,

down to the south as you will see, south of the city is what we have in terms of the rain. again, splotches will continue to remain on the radar throughout the morning. taking a look at this in motion, the front in the backyard. it seems to promise from the satellite and radar imagery, that we make it clearing occurring a little bit temporarily. we have that in the forecast, variable clouds. temperatures in the 50s, very mild. from where we were yesterday. 40s you can see off to the east bay. a look at this, the futurecast going forward. this is not so optimistic in terms of opening up the skies but noticing the rain all the way to the early afternoon. we take a break and it will be okay for the game this afternoon in terms of any threat of rain. temperatures are mild around 60. there is the overcast into the overnight hours. better clearing happening tomorrow. so take your sunglasses with you on that. not much of a threat in terms of rain for the morning commute.

this is the bay area's new station. kron 4 news weekend starts now. good morning. thank you for joining us on kron 4 news weekend. we continue to track the rain in the bay area as we take a live look at the storm tracker 4 where you can see the scattered showers are falling in some parts of the bay area, mainly the south and east bay right now. we have complete team coverage for you this morning and kron 4 avery harper is in san francisco. we will start with dave spahr who is tracking the storm this morning from the weather center.

>> good morning. we see avery -- she has an umbrella up and that is not where the most intense rain is happening as we are speaking. you can see on the radar what is going on. it is down the peninsula for the heavy rain extend across the bay park to the east bay than we've been tracking the rain this morning these bay where it is held together. it has been focused right over our heads this morning because of our frontal boundary which is falling apart in the backyard putting it into motion come you can see the flow pattern from the southwest to the northeast and what is interesting in this pattern, getting out of the way, is a clear pattern making out. a clear patches so we may get some breaks of sunshine going on to help move the temperatures a little bit like they need moving already in the lower 50s as you can see. covering the perimeter of the bay because of the cloud cover. to the north bay, pretty much mid-50s as we speak. that game time, taking on the chiefs, 1 pm, some showers are possible still. keep in the clouds around 60, 61 at 3 pm.

we are back on kron 4 news weekend and we take a look -- a live look outside and you can see water droplets on the bay bridge camera. on the upper right, we have a seat along the other -- embarcadero and some folks are braving the drops and lower right, we have the syrian -- that is kirkwood ski resort and one thing that is common is that we have some precipitation of some sort, not a whole lot. >> right. also, i said earlier kind of sloppy if you're going there are coming back. because the wind is coupled with that and you are dealing with different elevations. the snow turns to rain and all of that so keep that in mind in your travels coming back if you are watching us, going out there. that will clear up again for tonight but everybody has more chance for more precipitation

of all sorts. seven-day forecast right now. here is what is going on on storm tracker 4, the rain splotches and a lot of concentration continues in the east bay. we show you what is going on. moderate splotches here and there to make note of as you can see on this will continue in the next several hours. along the peninsula, we are getting rain as well. san mateo, up to the north and to the south of that. we are seeing rain although it seems to be hovering near the bay shoreline itself and not to leave this out in the north bay, another little cell has developed west of san rafael, drifting to the south presumably so maybe marin county will get that spread out to get better coverage. this is -- it is a morning phenomena but we keep saying that breaking up considerably into the evening hours. watching the radar and satellite trends come it looks like we are seeing a clear patch upstream. i suspect temporary because the features are in place. somewhat of a stationary front in the backyard the models --

as we go forward, certainly the flow pattern in the southwest to northeast as you will see, generally speaking cloudy through the day. that starts to open up a little bit overnight, more importantly for tomorrow and so tomorrow morning, 5 am, you will be greeted by a lot of overcast. that will clear up by the afternoon hours but not that we will not see some rays of sunshine today but a lot more for tomorrow. getting to temperatures. we have got to drive this point comput look at how mild that is. 60s popping up, covering a -- to the south and peninsula, leaving out downtown san francisco. tonight and then for tomorrow come will get much better coverage with a clear patch that will help us warm-up. as you see the green covering almost all of the inland locations. we look at -- get 60s warming up this was not a cool front although it is called that but it did not cool us off. temperatures for highs approaching at about 60 and a little cooler off to the far east.

are looking for may have been driving a silver suv. holidays are fast approaching and so is the season for package the expect a fremont family and sharing surveillance video of a man stealing seven boxes full of $800 worth of their christmas presents. they tell kron 4 philippe djegal that they hope someone recognizes the man before he strikes again. >> reporter: caught on camera, this is the alleged robber and with help from neighboring surveillance cameras, snapshots of the car that he used to pull the highest. >> he was apparently driving past and saw boxes and came up and made three trips to take seven boxes to his car. >> reporter: and she has filed a police report after discovering the theft on friday afternoon. she was away from her home in fremont mission san jose neighborhood when the man swiped the boxes. neighbors later found to some of the ripped up packaging on the roadway but none of the items were inside. >> they do not want to have packages with our name so they are getting rid of evidence. they can have shoes or present

a woman, pulls up to the same mailbox. except the woman exits the car, checked the mail and is on her way. you are looking at security camera video captured by homeowner. there has been a problem with mail theft in some sections of san jose and the victims asked that we not mention the neighborhood or the street they say they have been hit multiple times. about a mile away, a block has been hit. this mailbox is supposed to be a secure mailbox but look at this. it has been damaged by thieves that drilled the box open. residents tell me that the mailbox thieves are going as far as using crowbars to break into what is considered secure mailboxes but it has come to the point that sensors are placed in mailboxes that are allergic the homeowner when it is being tampered with letter locker. it resembles a huge lockbox -- to keep mail and parcel say. if not, they end up looking like this with mail exposed. this mailbox actually has not one, not two, but three

separate locks. how it works is usually the bandit follows a mailman around and then snags the mail. why are they still know? many say it is to steal identity although some people say that they can -- still my mail. all jokes aside, it is still stealing and a federal crime. wando resin i spoke to told me she refused to put a lock on the mailbox but she had never had her mail stolen. however, when pressed, she says if he gets stolen that she will revisit. as it relates to the suspected mail bad as common camera, the camera caught their license plates and that information has been turned over to the police and san jose police. a sad state of affairs to lock down our life but it is what it is but for now, be aware. mail theft is a growing problem.
