right now on kron 4 news weekend, we are waking up to dry weather in the bay area but expecting more rain in the forecast as we take this look from our embarcadero camera. good morning, thanks for joining us on kron 4 news weekend, i'm marty gonzalez along with our meteorologist, dave sparr. it's dry but not going to stay that way. >> know, we are going inversely. the rain started and left us, today we start dry and it will be with us. there's a picture of the bay bridge, wow.

clouds already rolling in as we speak. this is the rain shield that you can see out to see getting clipped off but it's still there, just a bit of radar error picking that up and we continue to track this as it starts to develop their time. this'll probably more of an afternoon developing phenomenon for most of the metro area of the day. there you can see it coming together to give you a general idea of where it lingers. it is fighting through some dry air initially and cold air disturbance so it's going to be a cold rain for us today, as we don't have a constellation of sunshine getting through there either. for example take a look at these temperatures, 39 in the north bay, 40 napa, 45 downtown, oakland, and off to the east bay, upper 30s territory. breaking this down for you, for example at oakland, 57, we may do this afternoon with the southwest wind at 10 to 15. clear indication that it is a prefrontal type wind. you're planning forecast with that ominous picture in the background, you can see the watercolors out here, by noon, rain, cool condition, 50 degree range. by 4:00 p.m., rain, heavy at

times through the afternoon is what we expect. will plot this in terms of timing and let you know that this is not the end, there's more up next week, i've got that in the seven-day forecast. let's get to the news, top story. police are investigating a suspicious death at uc berkeley and this morning we expect to learn the identity of the victim. the incident happened saturday morning at a chat house on channing way. alisha reid reports the threat was getting ready to celebrate the end of the semester. >> reporter: the police department is investigating the death as suspicious. friday was the last days schools were held at the university and many fraternities were having their last hurrah before the holiday. >> reporter: students nearby noticed a party at the phi kappa phi fraternity. >> the fire alarms went off. >> reporter: around 7:30

saturday morning, the police and fire departments rushed to channing way 280 young man in his 20s. they did everything to resuscitate him but he was pronounced dead at the scene. as students piled in their car looking forward to celebrating holidays with the families, they tell me this isn't the first death they have heard of at the cal berkeley fraternity. >> there was something at the beginning of last fall, that was not a cal student, that was someone else. i hope it wasn't foul play. they're saying it's suspicious. >> reporter: police on releasing any information about that young man at this time, it's unclear if he's a member of the nationwide fraternity or a student of cal berkeley. reporting in berkeley, alecia reid, kron 4 news. investigators found debris from an airplane in bakersfield in an orchard, the debris was found a few hours after a plane out of the south bay sent a

made a call and dropped off radar. the plane was reported missing about 4:00 yesterday afternoon. it was flying from read hillview airport east of san jose heading toward las vegas. search and rescue crews searched the debris roughly 3 hours later, however officials say the debris uncovered is not confirmed to be that of the missing plane. there is still a lot of investigation and no word on any survivors. and we are getting closer to christmas. today of course the last weekend of shopping before the holidays. stores across the country are increasing their hours over this last weekend to make it easier for last-minute shoppers. this morning, kron4's averi harper is among them live from baker's center in san leandro where some stores are opening early and closing late. are you going to join them? >> definitely. here at the center, so many stores are extending hours to accommodate last-minute shoppers just like me. i'm standing in front of kohl's

which will be open 24 hours a day until christmas. that's not the only location extending hours, target is opening up at 7:00 and macy's is staying open late until midnight. we also have some safety tips for you, if you plan on being out here among those last- minute shoppers, and this is from the san francisco police, don't leave anything visible in your car. move it to a different location each time you load packages in the trunk, keep them locked up while you're shopping. and when possible, shop with a companion. that's all good advice especially if you plan on being out here. so many people will be here shopping last-minute for those holidays. i will be talking to people take advantage of extended hours. i can see some shoppers already trickling into the cold, when i talk to them i will be sure to bring that back to you. >> thanks a lot. that's averi harper reporting live from san leandro. new this morning, and air france flight heading to paris made an emergency landing in

kenya today after a fake bomb was found on board. the boeing 777 departed from the indian ocean island nation of voracious late saturday night with about 473 people on board. he requested permission to land in my boss after a passenger discovered a device in the bathroom. the plane landed safely, all passengers were evacuated. lawmakers retrieve the device and this morning to get out it was a fake bomb that did not contain any explosives. in east bay, a man is dead after his car opened up in the -- ended up in the oakland estuary. rescue divers pulled the man from the submerged car after 7:00 yesterday morning. witnesses say the car sped to an alameda super part -- supermarket parking lot before crashing into a metal barrier and into the water. the supermarket clerk made an unsuccessful attempt at a rescue. >> i ran out there and saw the scene as it was. somebody was saying there were bubbles coming out from the water. i jumped in and trying to swim down and get to the car.

they said they saw the car going, like, 80. it basically drove down there and went straight through the parking lot. >> the man pulled from the water died on his way to the hospital. there are no skid marks at the scene to show that the car or driver had even made an attempt to stop. the car was pulled from the water, alameda county police are searching the car this morning. we need common sense. >> calmed down a little bit, marty. >> yeah, let's tell the truth, marty. >> the democratic presidential candidates square off. coming up on kron 4 news weekend, we have the highlights from saturday night's debate. also a shooting at a southern california hospital. what we are learning about the man accused of attacking two police officers. coming up after the break, be careful before you hand on your holiday chocolate. why the candy that you bought may not be the candy that you think it is.

look at some stores that might affect your bottom line. thousands of dove chocolates were pulled from walmart shelves due to a fear of allergies. a recall of 6700 cases of chocolates, it may be in some other candy bars. the candy maker, mars, is concerned about those with peanut, wheat and egg allergies because small pieces of snickers, milky way and twix bars may have made their way into the snowflake candies sold at walmart. walmart says anyone with concerns should return the product to the store for a full refund. mitsubishi motors is recalling 25,000 cars due to air back issues , that recall affects 2014 and 2015 mirages. certain wires could corrode and caused delays in the cars front airbag. the government says mitsubishi will notify owners and repairs necessary will be done free of

and we're back on kron 4 news weekend. let's take you to the sierra this morning where we are looking at the kirkwood ski resort. they had 4 inches of snow and are expecting more snow on top of a 3.5 foot base. thus far, not a whole lot of problems there with snow. >> right now it's all quiet, it will not be by late this

afternoon. >> things will change considerably. >> that's right. and guess what? more early next week. if you're heading for christmas, we actually are getting a break in all this, after christmas. how about in the bay area? another batch of rain coming our way this afternoon and taking us to the evening hours. and there's more into next week. here's what shows up on storm tracker 4, this shield of rain is the latest thing that we are watching. it's going through some dry air initially because we had kind of the best situation to get those cool temperatures this morning. clear skies, dry air, everything was able to fall but temperatures fell close to the dewpoint values. not a whole lot of insulation of relatively dry air any longer because temperatures have fallen so much. there is the rain map, just making its way to the north, not necessarily a guarantee, but it gives her a nice start of what's going on. this again playing out this morning and into this evening. quick check on a temperatures,

upper 30s. near the north bay map, around 40s, vallejo, 37, fairfield 42, downtown san francisco, 40 matched by oakland, san jose, a chilly 32. by 9:00 a.m., it goes up the north bay, gets to the peninsula by noon. most urban areas will be spared of the ring at that point. then we go into the later afternoon through 4:00, you see some of these yellows, embedded heavier rain showers through the afternoon. by 5:00 we are talking sunset at that point. so, we'll have rain going into your early evening hours. then it should subside a little bit for the morning commute, a couple of showers to make known of but not the massive brain we have experienced in some of these. there will be a break until this next wave gets here, for your commute home, which will be messier for your commute to work tomorrow. this will linger, and there's more successive waves upstream. let's to check the wind, going out to 12:00, there you can see

the wind clocking up to the teens, we've got that cold wind range situation, kind of sloppy with temperatures well into the 50s. it'll be a chilly day for everybody, damp and cold, winds getting up to 20 miles an hour, hourly estimations, gusts will be higher, of course. along the east bay temperatures, trekking in the upper 50s for the most part but that cold rain, that wind, feels awfully chilly. back to the news this morning, an elderly woman is dead after being hit by two cars in san jose. the 76-year-old was hit by one car, the driver got out of his car to wave off other drivers. but moments later a second car hit the woman and drove off. police are searching for the driver of that second car, kron4's philippe djegal reports the woman was reported missing prior to the crash. >> reporter: a kind woman with

a heart of gold, her passing, difficult for her housemates to bear. >> she's really nice lady. i was so surprised. >> reporter: this man prefer not to share his identity, but says for almost 2 years, he has rented a room in this home on lillyput lane where he says lee lived with her daughter. she was reported missing friday afternoon, this is the last place she was seen. lee was later named by police as the person killed in a deadly hit and run crash about 5 miles away from home. she was first hit by a red 1997 honda accord, the driver stopped to help. but while doing so, investigators say the person behind the wheel of a silver four-door saturn hit lee a second time and continue driving south on center. that driver still at large. she passed away on the road. >> every time when i come back from work and then when i would open the door, you know, i was there, she would open the door for me. you know, just really, really

nice. >> reporter: this is the city's 51st deadly traffic collision of the year. she is the 54th victim. in san jose, philippe djegal, kron 4 news. big news we're falling out of southern california this morning, a man was shot and killed by police after a struggle inside an emergency room in torrance. the man was shot yesterday afternoon at the harbor ucla medical center. the man attacked two officers who were sent there to take him into custody and he was reaching for their gun. the man was originally brought to the hospital earlier in the day after reports that he was throwing bottles and fighting neighbors. at the hospital, police say the man viciously attacked officers as he got off a gurney to be handcuffed. and national news this morning, the man who loaned gun used by the boston marathon bombers back in 2013 is set to be sentenced on drug and gun charges, he let dzhokhar tsarnaev borrow a handgun two months before the bombings.

he said tsarvaev ptolemy wanted to rob students and kept coming up with excuses as to why he didn't return the gun. prosecutors say the gun was used by tsarvaev and his brother to kill mit police officer, sean collier, days after the bombing. it left 250 -- he will be sentenced in u.s. district court on tuesday. there is a city that think that is the san francisco of the southern hemisphere. coming up on this morning's edition of dine and dish, we'll see if sydney, australia compared to the bay area. first, let's take this live look outside from our embarcadero camera. beautiful pass this morning to start the day. for the weekend, it's the

compared to yesterday, certainly. but, expect more rain in the forecast coming up in a few hours. meteorologist dave spahr is here to tell us when that rain will arrive. >> the sun is going to put its performance out there, we're going to see this and then go back to bed. >> your work is done here. >> that's right. here's a live look from storm tracker 4 radar, they are watching some redeveloping, a shield of it out into the pacific, getting time to develop, looks like it's developing in the north bay as we speak for now. this will again spread out and cover much more territory, got all of the urbanized areas as we approach the p.m. hours. here we can see the rain starting to build coming in from the northwest, typical, true to fashion. 39 n. bay, florida napa, clear skies overnight, then allowed temperatures to fall fairly rapidly with dry air. now we do have a dry air mass to deal with, but temperatures are falling quite a bit already. so there is not as much resistance as there might normally be. 49 in san francisco downtown. here's how it phases, we get up

[ screaming ] no! >> the force fail than one hollywood theater last night, a theater full of "star wars" fans threw a fit when the projector broke down right in the middle of the movie on friday night. you're taking a look at cell phone video posted to facebook share on the inside of the theater when the projector fails. the projector eventually restarted, but it began playing 15 or 20 minutes ahead of where it left off. some people in the audience as you could hear there, yelling, "no, no, no" over and over again. the theater gave fans a full refund. the new "star wars" from has not been out for an entire weekend and is already breaking records. on friday, disney announced the film made more than $120 million in the u.s. just on

let's look outside golden gate bridge on the left, bay bridge on the upper right, then taking you to sierra for a look at kirkwood on the lower right. one thing in common is that there are going to be little bit of water dripping from the sky. >> in the case of kirkwood it will be frozen water. >> crystallized, frozen water. >> the only thing is if you're coming in there, some people were there perhaps yesterday, it will be messy by the evening hours, and it will be messy here, to as rain showers linger until nightfall. here's a live look for you at storm tracker 4, letting you know where everything is. we noticed some rain happening, covering the bay bridge there but there certainly more upstream. we will see this start to fill out, intensify as the morning progresses in the north bay first, before strikes the other metro areas. if we put it into motion, you

can see developing to the northwest, down to the southeast. warming up temperatures really quick, kind of chile because we had clear skies and fairly dry air 09, down into the upper 30s, in the north bay, 46 san francisco, san mateo 41, 45 oakland, far east bay, livermore 47. chilly spots to be had. looking at the map, dewpoint numbers, not much of a separation. when you have that it shows the air is not as dry as it was before, with dry air temperatures have been able to fall, but clouds coming just in the nick of time. here comes the rain, it's not going to fight too much resistance with the air, therefore what you see on radar should strike the ground fairly quickly as this plays out in the model. 12:00 new tonight, still working its way through one country before spreading out to the metro areas, notice heavy rainfall happening in the bay, where the concentration will be in the coastal peninsula. now is getting into the east bay shoreline by that point and then that will take us to

midnight or shortly there before come you can see heavier rain in the central valley overnight, the morning commute, a couple of splotches to make note of but not much happens until the afternoon. here comes wave number two. by 4:00, just about everybody, not too bad on your commute to work but the commute on home, you'll be doing more in the way of rain chances. temperatures in the east bay, starting off much cooler and won't have much time in which to crime for today. here's a look at the seven-day forecast, successive waves, we start to get around christmas, it looks like we will get a break for christmas day, and onto the following weekend. marty? >> thank you. the problem with dumping debris in oakland is increasing because of the wet weather. all of that tossed out trash continues to urban flooding and lowers property values which is causing submissiveness is to fail. kron4's stanley roberts takes a closer look in this week's

edition of "people behaving badly". >> reporter: there is a cloud over east oakland and it has to do with blight, but not your average play, this is the lincoln navigator which according to the owner, via translator, claims it blew up while they were speaking. -- sleeping. at the corner of 45th avenue with an operating please don't tell it, my insurance adjuster will pick it up and 45 hours. that was hours ago. several blocks away, los angeles boulevard, got it out for tourists. security cameras in use. on the same block as this, a warning sticker claiming, the vehicle is not an acceptable condition. turns out the car was on private property, but someone moved and onto a public street. oakland, primarily east oakland, has always had a problem with illegal dumping and tigers. and the two seem to go hand in hand. >> when the graffiti comes, after the graffiti, this is

what happens. the dumping comes right behind it. because people say in the neighborhoods are lebron, if they allow them to taboo, they can spend 15 minutes tagging, why can't we dump? that's what they do right here. >> reporter: that is the purest form of the broken window theory. but it's not just graffiti and debris, it's trailers, whole trailers left abandoned on the street. this is the interior of a truck with a transfer name on the side, both the company and owner claim he saw the truck five or six years ago. my advice to him? if he's going to sell his truck, remove the logo and phone number. so what can you do? the answer is simple. all abandoned vehicles fall under police jurisdiction. and the illegal transfer graffiti, that falls under oakland public works. if you have access to a computer, bug them until it gets cleaned up. the owner says he's close to going out of business, because people will place -- spend

putting this into motion to see what we're talking about, you can see the cloud cover moving before sunrise. almost perfect timing and an estimation that it is sending this through the wine country. this will come with some wind, particularly by this afternoon. if you add the combination together, at the temperatures will feel a lot cooler than they saved -- we are in the upper 30s and the north bay and that 8 o'clock numbers are coming out right now. they might be hard met a nap at 40, 37 vallejo, upper 30s to the far east bay and that will be a bigger struggle because the cloud cover is coming in with the rain so it is harder for the temperatures to climb later on for today. let's break it down. oakland, getting up to 57 or so, and matching that, sending back down to lower 50s but the southwest clip at about 10 until 15. down to the south bay for the 49ers game, looking at temperatures in the 50s and this will be rain and cool, also add breezier there, 50 at sunset and remaining floppy into the evening hours.

welcome back to kron 4 news weekend and we are sneaking a peek outside at the ski resort. starting to see activity on the slopes. they are expecting some more snow today. they had 4 inches in the last 24 hours so expecting more. a good time to be going to the sierra, but the drive is going to be tricky. >> and the resolute icicle that is there. >> [ laughter ] >> i am not going anywhere. >> i'm staying right here. >> i will be here. mentioned in some activity. more mountain snow, and the interesting thing about that is the snow level will actually climb a little bit. not the best is because we want to stores much in the mountains as we can but the other thing is that as we get the rain, it will not be as cold as some of the storms. but you have got to watch of the far right height -- right- hand side of the seven-day forecast here's a look at his -- what is going on, a massive range of the north bay and this might be something that is hitting the ground.

a lot of it is covered over the north bay right now when we put this into motion. not hitting all of the metro areas. we're pretty much stopped by cloud cover so it is moistening of the atmosphere, reducing the resistance. we have some dry air that we are banking off of and then it will get the ground. going forward with the models, you can see the more intense rain is starting to build and by the noon hour, it is up to the north before it filters into the metro area. you can see the intense rain showers. 5 pm, striking most of the areas. we will be rain heavy at times but not quite what we had probably from yesterday, very early. we go to about to 12 o'clock overnight and it takes a breather, and there is a resurgence that happens tomorrow morning for the morning commute, around the north bay. you can see that. not much happens in the early afternoon, and then for the commute home, a good -- you can see rain cover just about everybody for the traveled the beginning monday evening. it will be a sloppy commute going home with all of that.

attacked two officers who were sent there to take him into custody and that the man reached for their gone. the man was originally brought into the hospital earlier in the day after reports that he was throwing bottles and fighting with neighbors. at the hospital police say that the man viciously attacked officers as he got off a gurney to be handcuffed. national news, the man who loaned a gun used by the boston marathon bomber back in 2013 is said to be sentenced on drug and gun charges. steffens about led dzhokhar tsarnaev borrow 100 before the bombings and he said that dzhokhar tsarnaev told him that he wanted to use the gun to robert university of rhode island students. and he said that dzhokhar tsarnaev kept coming up with excuses to explain why he never returned the gone. prosecutors say that it was used by dzhokhar tsarnaev of his brother to kill m.i.t. police officer sean collier days after the bombing. the bombing left three people dead and more than 260 people injured.

for your money this morning, let's look at some stores that might affect your bottom line. thousands of dove chocolates were pulled from walmart shelves because of a fear of allergies. a recall of 6700 cases of the dove chocolate snowflakes may contain other candy bars. the candy maker is concerned about people who have peanut, weed, and egg allergies and small pieces of snickers, milky way, and twix bars might have made their way into the snowflake candace which are sold only at walmart stores. mars chocolate says that anyone with allergy concerns should return the product to the store and they will get a full refund. mitsubishi motors is recalling roughly 25,000 of its cars because of airbag issues. the recall affects 2014 and 2015 mirages.

busy week in terms of precipitation, starting things off for today, and we did that yesterday, but the coverage right now you can see in the bay area, pretty much the north bay is where everything is starting off around wine country as you'll see in the northern end of the bay park we extend further to the south, just getting into downtown san francisco, very spotty as is the case for much of the east bay shoreline. give some time for this to happen and everybody will get involved and there will be moderate rain showers for good measure. let's time this out. go into hiding, it does not put too much to the east bay yet but it appears to be -- this the case for the last several systems, tended to be running behind. i suspect maybe 12, maybe more like 11 or so, going out further you can see everybody involved, the heavier showers at the north bay and particularly those hill facing coasts, you'll get a lot more at those locations. throughout the day, getting to around 10 o'clock, 11 o'clock, something to greet you in the north bay but fairly quiet for most of the day until it is time to go home and then we see

no. no. no. the force failed at one hollywood theater, a theater full of star wars fans threw a fit when the projector broke down right in the middle of the friday film of star wars. the cell phone video was posted to facebook showed the inside of the theater with the project or failed. the projector eventually restarted but he began playing 15 or 20 minutes ahead of where it left off.

some people in the audience started yelling, no, no. as you can hear. over and over again. the theater gave fans a refund. disney announcing that the latest star wars film has made more than $238 million. domestically. just this weekend. that shatters of the previous opening weekend record of $208 million set by jurassic world earlier this year. disney says the film made more than $517 million worldwide this weekend, and that number is more impressive considering that two of the most populated countries in the world have not yet released the film. the movie will premiere in india next week and china says they will not release the film until early next month. coming up, merry christmas. the problem is including cars and trucks. i will explain in the next edition of people behaving badly. sounds good.

here is the big view of everything as you can see it is filling up the real estate. let's assume into the north bay, seems to be a breakout happening. there is still more upstream and let's go further to the south. we are getting the peninsula covered, downtown san francisco, contra costa county and some of the east bay shoreline is getting involved in some of this. after it moistens out of the lower atmosphere which it looks like it has done and now everything will be coming from the sky -- it will reach the ground. 9 am, we go forward -- this is what we're talking about. more upstream. by haydn come again, heavy rain showers, moderate at times in some locations, but it lingers all day. we go to about 5:00 pm which is effectively after sunset, so that goes into the early evening. with some heavier showers from the peninsula, looking like into the south bay. seven -- 7:00 am tomorrow, light rain showers and a basically cloudy from the bulk of the day by the evening commute home. here comes the moderate to heavy rain at times to greet you again as you go home.

into the evening hours. before it breaks up late on monday night and it will be a little bit more upstream, and an unsettled week pattern until we get to christmas day. we are talking about in the snow resorts and until 10 o'clock on tuesday, winter weather advisory, and it would be a winter storm warning probably if we had more snow, 4 until ed inches above 4000 feet, snow starting at 3500 feet and rising to 6000 feet it looks like by monday evening and that is because of this air mass will not be as cold behind it. typically, with these things we see a drop in terms of snow levels and that is something to keep in mind in the seven-day forecast. up to the north bay, temperatures middle 50s and you throw winds and rain. it feels chilly. the nightly lows are not too bad which is one thing indicative about the snow levels. we see lows in the inland valleys, 40s and maybe 50 or so until the christmas eve storm system moves through. we go down to 32 and it is chilly for some christmas day and saturday. a problem of dumping debris in oakland is increasing

take a look at this, countdown has begun for super bowl l, crews finishing installing a gold number 50 at the san francisco ferry building and also at levi's stadium. officials also installing the first of the bay area 50s which are 6 foot tall structures that depict different aspects of super bowl history. one of those structures was constructed in front of city hall last night. you can see it as you pass by city hall. nine other bay area 50s structures will be installed at different bay area locations in the coming weeks and the big game is on the way. happening today, speaking of football, the raiders taking on eryn rogers and the green bay packers. the raiders hoping to keep their playoff hopes alive. coming off of the win against the broncos last week but this is the first on the northern carolina will play at the
