heavier showers currently on the peninsula. that will be moving rapidly to the southeast at 35 miles per hour. this area of heavy rain is moving to foster city and toward san carlos. and this shower was producing some hail out of the oce - - oceans. steady moderate to heavy rain and looking over the bridge, it is a little bit wet out there right now. gusts of wind, a lot of places with wind over 30 miles per hour. not a lot of rain, but it is a moisture starved system with rainfall amounts around one third of an inch. there has been a lot of snow in this era and i will have an update on the high country coming up. >> heavy rain, wind, a drop in

were chanting fire chief now, they want them to fire the police chief in the wake of the recent mario woods shooting and they want the officers held accountable. a representatives from the office joined the group to tell them that the mayor will not be back until late next week. the group said that they will return. no arrests were made, nothing was damaged, and the protest was peaceful. but the message was strong, they are not happy with the police or the mayor. >> the inequality is killing me, mayor the, mayor lee, inequality is killing us and we are not going to take it anymore. we want you to deliver a message to the mayor that we are not disposable. we are here, we are not going

anywhere, we are not going to ask him, we are demanding that he speak to the black community. >> as i said before the march, the second protest in two days was yesterday. eight people were arrested after walking on highway 101. tonight you will meet several mothers who were outraged over the shooting. i was - - i will explain why again in an hour. two men were charged with four counts of attempted murder after a shooting at a popular shooting early on monday morning. the suspects were arraigned in court this afternoon and police say this appears to be a hate crime since the suspect targeted the victims based on sexuality. but the da office did not file hate crime enhancement charges against them. after getting into a volvo - -

verbal altercation, they went to aguilera's car and pulled out a handgun and shot the victims in the lakes. all of the victims have been released. both suspects are being held without bail. someone was shot and killed after an argument in north carolina today. officials say the off-duty police officers went to the scene after they heard a fight went out - - broke out. shoppers and employees stayed locked inside of the stores for hours after the shooting. police say there is no reason to worry now, this is not an active shooter situation. raider nation is getting ready for the final home game of the season in oakland as the silver and black prepare to take on the charges and many hope that this will not be the final game for the raters in oakland. scott is there at the coliseum

tonight police are looking for public health identifying women who try to steal baby formula. we got the picture of the student - - suspects bolting out of the store. after the women were stopped by the store manager, they punched and elbowed an employee in the south - - stomach and during the struggle, they had to slam her into a wall and she violently shoved a 7-year-old girl who landed on her head and was taken to the hospital. she was seen with three other women who were waiting inside.

the suspect had three outstanding warrants for burglary and robbery and is now behind bars. a resident called police yesterday after a woman knocked on her daughter - - door and asked for directions to the freeway. they recognized the suspect as one of the passengers after stopping the vehicle. the identified parker as a suspect in the december 1st burglary caught on the home surveillance camera. parker was arrested and is being held without bail. and someone saw a larger than life outdoor customs decoration from a family in the east bay. and they tell us either way, the crime will not ruin the meaning of the holiday season for them. >> when it comes to inflatable outdoor christmas decorations, this house has it all.

chains are required currently on 80 and 50. and the snow is not as heavy as it was earlier, but here is something interesting that you do not see every day, snow with a thunderstorm at the same time. a severe thunderstorm one hour ago actually produced a tornado or at least a funnel cloud to the west. this is some really heavy snow in here and as we go through tonight, the snow conditions continue. your storm warnings are still in effect in the bay. scattered showers, some of them heavy, the heaviest activity on the peninsula. this is quickly coming down the peninsula, and the - - the heaviest rain is moving toward mountain view and sunnyvale. this shower has been taken el camino from san bruno and into santa clara. it is continuing to move southeast around 35 miles per hour. i was watching this shower go down on the bridge camera. it looks like things are beginning to taper off at this time. tonight, scattered showers are still a possibility. they will decrease after 8:00, and the best chance is going to be along the coast and into the

starting or finishing holiday shopping. alicia is in alameda with how things are going over there. >> a lot of shoppers out here this evening at the last minute and everyone that i have spoken to has been in a great move - - mood. the parking lot is packed. and some people are still finding their way around and getting parking spots and making their way inside of the store. and although the lines are pretty long, i went in and people are still getting in and out quickly. the store is completely staffed and the person that - - purchases are - - the purchases are being quickly expedited. a lot of them are mass - - last- minute shopping. this store was there last stop. >> i have work and school and did not have time and i got an off day today. so i got to go shopping.

no severe storms in southern california, but in placerville, a tornado and funnel clouds have been confirmed and in the bay area, pockets of heavy rain and cold temperatures, gusts of wind over 30 miles per hour, and the most widespread rain goes down the peninsula toward palo alto. it is going into the south they by downtowns san jose. this is quickly moving southeast around 35 miles per hour. the showers are not sticking around for long. at 8:00, we are dealing with off and on showers. and there are some breaks in the clouds. the showers begin to decrease after midnight, and there's still is a chance through sunrise tomorrow morning for scattered showers and the best chance is going to be close to

the coast. that will go until 9:00 and then we are looking at increasing sunshine for christmas day and the rest of the christmas forecast. the candidates are in the race for the white house and they are kicking off for the christmas holiday. but the war of words shows no signs of slowing down. hillary clinton said she deplored trump for using inflammatory rhetoric. trump took offensive course and tweeted that he deplored the death and district - - destruction she caused. and he warned her to be careful after she said that he had a pension for sexism and - - penchant for sexism and he

bragged that he had great respect for women. >> and he invited the leaders when he attended the southeast asian nations annual meeting in malaysia last month. next year's meeting they say will include important conversations about the asian- pacific region. the president said he would be counterbalancing china's influence as a key part of his foreign-policy. american, french and british agencies have issued a warning to citizens and staff, they are concerned about threats against westerners in the popular shopping district on and around christmas. they are urging extra vigilance and beijing police have beefed- up the present at malls.

terrorism concerns grow at the airports today as holiday travel increases. the tsa is becoming reliant on bodies cameras for scanners as more than 9 million passengers take to the skies the season. >> there is a little concern about the new rules that come just in time for the holiday. they mean you cannot opt out of going through the body's camera for skinner. a lot of people did that because they are concerned about radiation. going through the scanner provides a small amount of

radiation, and they were in today with heightened awareness about terrorism and i worry that there could be more attacks on united states soil. they have decided that some people will not be able to opt out of going through the scanners or asking for somebody to pat them down. they are saying it does not apply to everybody, but some people will be picked out where they say sorry, you will have to go through the scanner and you will not the able to ask for someone to do the patdown instead. and we should talk about the numbers of people who are traveling this holiday season. aaa estimates 100 million people are going to be going more than 50 - - 50 miles from home this christmas and new year. the majority of folks will be on the road. but don't get road rage because it will be crazy out there.

a christmas storm hitting

the bay area right now. bands of showers are hovering over the region, especially in the south bay, it is the last storm of the week and we have to a series of them. we have seen everything over the last week, fierce wind, flooding, all entries and snow and the rain will soon be going away. frigid temperatures will be gripping the region. in the east bay, temperatures are dropping tonight. and we begin with ryan and the weather center. >> we have showers still taking place around the bay area, up around 3000 feet, and coming down as snow, but rain in most places.

we did have some showers over san francisco and over into oakland. there is more out over the pacific. these will rotate through leader and we have pockets of heavy rain in the west valley. there is saratoga. this is moderate to heavy rain pushing this way southeast toward morgan hill. there could be more showers as we go through tonight. here is a pocket of moderate rain in san jose. for the rest of tonight, we're not only going to have showers but gusty winds and cold temperatures. this is a moisture deprived system come down from alaska.
